The Hog Sty’s Listener Mock Draft: Round 3
by Adam Taraschke and Steve Thomas
We’ve arrived at the third and final week of our First Annual Listener Mock Draft. We’d like to say thanks to everyone who has hung with us for the entire event! This week is round 3. If you recall, we asked you to make the Redskins’ draft picks for rounds 1 and 2 via our regular Thursday-Friday Twitter poll. You did a marvelous job in making and defending your choices, and we hope that this exercise has been as much fun for you as it’s been for us oversee it. As a reminder, you drafted Haason Reddick, the linebacker from Temple, in round 1 and Joe Mixon, the controversial running back from Oklahoma, in round 2. So, cross those positions off of the Redskins’ needs list as we go into round 3.
This week, here are your choices for round 3 of the mock draft poll:
Poll time! It’s rd 3 of our listener mock draft! Knowing you drafted LB Reddick in rd 1 & RB Mixon in rd 2, who would u draft in rd 3? #HTTR

This is the final week, so pick a good one! Here’s our analysis of each of your choices:
Dorian Johnson
College: Pittsburgh
Position: Guard
Height: 6’5
Weight: 300
Draft Projection: late 2nd-late 3rd.
Johnson is technically sound guard with the arm length of a left tackle. He plays with great effort and drive every play. Plays with a solid base and rarely gets knocked off balance. He is good in space, but does struggle when he gets over aggressive at the 2nd level. Solid in the pull game as he has good lateral quickness for the position. Has the frame to add another 10+ pounds. Overall just a solid, tough player who can come in and compete for the starting left guard position day 1.
Jaleel Johnson
College: Iowa
Position: Defensive Line
Height: 6’3
Weight: 315
Draft Projection: late 2nd-mid 3rd
Jaleel Johnson is one of my favorite players in the entire draft. He constantly plays with a mean, physical attitude and sets the tone at the point of attack. Great hand usage as he frequently stonewalls offensive lineman. Great anchor in the run game taking on one or two blockers. He possesses decent later agility and enough burst to be a threat in the pass game. Johnson is the pure nose tackle Redskin fans have been missing. He is not an elite athlete, but his strength makes up for his lack of explosiveness out of his stance. Johnson would be Greg Manusky’s starting nose tackle day 1 in Richmond.
Marcus Maye
College: Florida
Position: Safety
Height: 6’0
Weight: 210
Draft Projection: late 2nd-early 3rd
Maye is a flat out playmaker. He is as instinctual as they come with athleticism to match. He is a good tackler and he diagnoses plays quickly. Adept in reading route combinations and recognizing route patterns. A force in the run game as a box safety. Has the speed and instincts to play over the top as a free safety. Tends to give up big plays more frequent than most. Maye was coached by now Redskins DB coach Torrian Gray at Florida. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Manusky and crew fall in love with him.
Nathan Peterman
College: Pittsburgh
Position: Quarterback
Height: 6’2
Weight: 225
Draft Projection: mid 2nd- mid 3rd
Peterman is a tough, smart quarterback. He has a compact release that results in the ball coming out quickly. He is comfortable functioning inside the pocket and out. He is not afraid to hang in the pocket and take a shot. Throws with anticipation and timing. His arm is only above average. He will need to continue to study the game and improve his eyes in the pass game. Throwing with touch is not his best asset and is something he must continue to work at. He is a pro ready quarterback with starter traits that excite me personally. I think he has the potential to be a top 20 starter in the league if he finds the right team.
