When a quarterback throws a lot of passes in a game, it usually means his team is losing. Tom Brady is different.
In Brady’s NFL career, he has thrown 50 or more passes a total of 28 times, including both regular season and postseason games, through Saturday’s 53-pass game against the Titans. That’s by far the most for any quarterback in NFL history, but that’s not what really sets Brady apart.
What really sets Brady apart is that the Patriots’ record when he throws 50 or more passes is 19-9. No other quarterback in NFL history has come close to that kind of success when passing a lot.
Drew Brees is second in NFL history, throwing 50 or more passes in 19 games. His teams’ record in those games is 4-15.
Peyton Manning is third in NFL history, with 50 or more passes in 17 games. His teams’ record in those games is 4-13.
Dan Marino is fourth in NFL history with 16 games of 50 passes or more. His teams’ record in those games was 5-11.
Brady has won six postseason games when throwing 50 or more passes. No other quarterback in NFL history has won more than once when throwing 50 or more passes in the postseason.
Edited to add: Brady has enjoyed a presentable Defense in every single season of his career.
Yeah that don’t make a difference for this article.
And our FO’s is a problem?
Titans: “Zero concern” about third coach for Marcus Mariota in four years
Posted by Josh Alper on January 16, 2018, 12:24 PM EST
The Titans are looking for a new head coach and their eventual hire will be their third since they took quarterback Marcus Mariota with the second overall pick of the 2015 draft.
That lack of stability might be a concern for some teams, but Titans General Manager Jon Robinson made it clear that the Titans don’t feel that way.
“Marcus is a pretty resilient guy. He’s a very mentally tough guy,” Robinson said, via the team’s website. “He takes a lot from the standpoint of ownership in things. I have zero concern in Marcus being able to adapt and learn, and do what’s best to get the offense going.”
The lack of concern is likely tied to the team’s desire to see Mariota make more progress than he showed while playing for Mike Mularkey for the last two-plus seasons. They can’t very well want to see more growth and keep the status quo, which means they’ll be hoping the third time is a charm in Nashville.
considering they made the playoffs and we didn’t…….
Yeah in a weak AFC and now there looking for a new coach.
you can’t still be defending our FO after decades of losing dude. c’mon man!
Well considering the current guys haven’t been here for decades not sure how that is relevant.
Allen has been for over 8 years so true not a decade, but nearly and I’d suggest we’re not appreciably better after 8 years under his leadership.
also, Dan Snyder….meh.
By Leonard Shapiro and Mark Maske
Washington Post Staff Writers
Wednesday, May 26, 1999; Page A1
ATLANTA, May 25—National Football League owners voted unanimously today to approve the sale of the Washington Redskins and Jack Kent Cooke Stadium to a group headed by Daniel M. Snyder for $800 million — a record price for a U.S. sports franchise.
By a margin of 31-0, the league ended an arduous and often bitter nine-month sale process conducted by trustees for the estate of late team owner Jack Kent Cooke. It also allowed Snyder, 34, a lifelong Washingtonian, to complete what he described as “an unbelievable journey” that fulfilled “a lifelong dream.”
Buying the Redskins is “the most wonderful thing that’s ever happened to me,” said Snyder, a Bethesda marketing executive. “I’m a fan, a huge fan. It’s that simple.”
“I’m not focused on the money, I’m focused on the opportunity and the dream. . . . Hundreds of fans have written to me with their support and suggestions. . . . Your most pressing issue is no different than mine. You want to win, we want to win, and we’re going to deliver that.”
Hell Buffalo made the playoffs and they stink.
Anyone buying this crap?
In Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars, the Steelers twice got stopped on fourth-and-1. On both plays, there appeared to be room in the middle of the line for Ben Roethlisberger to run a quarterback sneak for a yard. So why didn’t he?
Roethlisberger says he isn’t allowed to check out of the play that offensive coordinator Todd Haley calls and go to a quarterback sneak instead, even if he can see by the way the defense lines up that he’ll get the first down.
On his radio show this morning, Roethlisberger said it’s head coach Mike Tomlin’s call not to give him the freedom to audible at the line of scrimmage to a quarterback sneak.
“I have asked for it. I am fine with it. If they want to call it, I’m all for it,” Roethlisberger said, via Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network.
After the loss to the Jaguars, Tomlin defended the decision not to run the quarterback sneak, saying the Jaguars are good at stopping it and that Tomlin was comfortable with the plays called. But to have a veteran franchise quarterback like Roethlisberger and not even give him the authority to call a quarterback sneak is odd. The Steelers might have won that game if they’d picked up those two fourth down conversions. Roethlisberger should have had the authority to make the best call.
What are they going to do bench him or cut him?
maybe he retires?
-Kirk
Nope already said he was playing a few more years.
Bullshit. Big Ben Bullshit
He can’t call a sneak but he can call out his HC and OC in public.
LOL burn
cracks in the “steel curtain”.
speaking of cracks….
Josh Norman says cracks in Redskins defense’s chemistry were evident off the field
Why would Ben lie about that? What’s the purpose?
Hard to believe a guy with Ben’s pedigree has been told not to audible to a sneak ever.
But again, why would he lie about that? What’s the purpose?
Puts the blame somewhere else.
I believe it. And Tomlin is an idiot for not calling the sneaks. Roethlisberger makes the 1st down 94% of the time.
Ben is a vet with 2SB wins you run it anyway.
I don’t think so. You can’t just disregard the HC’s wishes no matter who you are.
Whats he going to do cut him? You do what’s best for the team to win the game.
You think Brady or Montana would have said oh darn I can’t audible to a sneak.
I don’t think BB or Walsh would forbid them from calling the audible.

Yeah that will go over well.
I haven’t been a Tomlin fan. But not a good move right now
I’ve always liked Mike Tomlin. His sister Lily is pretty talented, too.
What are you guys’ thoughts on Mason Foster. I think he’s good, but I don’t think he’s an impact player. I’d like to keep him, but I’d like to upgrade there too.
SPEED, two years now.
I like him, and want to resign him. But don’t break the bank. And I’d like to draft for depth, 3rd down play.

Seems like most of us agree that our biggest team needs are QB if KC leaves, DT, OG, and RB. But if you look at national outlets, most of them seem to say our team needs are QB, ILB, safety, WR, and RB.
I trust you all to have a better pulse on the team than the national outlets.
I hope so because those fools don’t know shit.
Well, tbf, needs and BPA@PONs are two different things.
I had a BPA@PON t shirt no one wanted it
If that’s not a joke, I’ll order one.
Hogsty’s BPA@PON
is bigger than
Bruce’s BPA@NFL.com
I did have it on cafe press. Can add it here i guess.
Unfortunately I think the truth is that we have needs almost everywhere.
whatever happens, i hope bruce does not even for a second entertain thoughts about what “national outlets” think about the redskins.
Yeah it’s his first day.
I’d say right now our biggest needs are QB, ILB, Safety, OG and WR, but if we resign Kirk, Zach, Mason and Spencer that would fill most of those needs.
Boyz N the Hood was a great movie, one of my favorites.

2015:
Cousins goes for 4,000+ yards
Jordan Reed, Pierre Garcon & DeSean Jackson make up an elite receiving core
Alfred Morris starts at RB, having gone over 1000 yards each of his first three seasons.
The Redskins go 9-7, two games better than this year.
Why?
4th worst rushing defense in the league.
5th worst pass defense in the league.
4th worst rushing offense in the league (Washington had the #1 rushing offense in 2012, #4 in 2013 and #9 in 2014 with the same starting RB).
The problem wasn’t a lack of elite talent – the problem was that if you don’t control the line of scrimmage, your elite players aren’t going to have opportunities to make plays.
Drafting an RB high to run behind a patchwork O-Line that cannot stay healthy and does not have depth is a waste of a pick, because:
1. The O-Line is not going to open holes. If you think that a college RB who is good enough to create his own holes and win games by himself at the NFL level is going to drop to #13 in the draft, you are either mistaken or you should be teaching classes to NFL scouts and GMs.
2. If the defense cannot stop the other team from scoring, you’re going to quickly find yourself in a position where you’re throwing the ball anyway to catch up, while your elite college RB shows off his blitz pickup skills.
The Redskins need to improve both their quality and their depth at O-Line and D-Line before believing that an elite skill player is the solution to anything.
Or maybe the advanced filers on this site determined that it wasn’t worth a top posting position.
Nah – the posts are sorted by time… but they’re sorted by the time you start writing, not the time you finish.
I think it comes up on top for other posters, and if you refresh the page it’ll show up on top for you, too.
I agree with your assessment.
So from angle your on the bottom, but from another angle you’re on top. Pretty cool stuff.
Ummm?
Skins rushing offense ranked 19th in 2014, not 9th. Jay hasn’t had a run game better than 18th since he’s been an OC or HC
You’re right, that’s my mistake – I didn’t realize the NFL site was only giving me NFC stats.
Still, Alfred Morris put up over 1000 yards that year with a 4.1 avg. The problem wasn’t a lack of a RB.
Agreed, it was inadequate run blocking and a lack of the type of mindset you need to be a good running team. I don’t think we instill that mindset in the team in TC. We run soft practices and get pass happy in games
I actually thought Jay did a better job this year of sticking with the run game. The problem was that he was way too predictable with his calls. I really don’t think he knows how to scheme a run game effectively
I think he was forced into predictable calls, because most of his O-Linemen had only just picked up the playbook. You can’t get very creative when you don’t know the names of the people you’re starting.
i imagine that w/o cousins this year, we’d have been something like 4-12 or so. the guy has lifted us to mediocrity.
I don’t think that’s the case Cousins never did anything great to win any of the games.
Hell we only scored more than 25 points like 3 times.
you are forgetting years and years of incompetent qb play. cousins has been great, given what he has had to work with – and a perennially horrible defense.
Cousins has been good not great and still has major flaws.
cousins is the reason we’re mediocre, not horrible. give him a defense and running game, and we’d be really, really good.

if the other team is scoring points but not stopping your running game, then that should be a push
As I said above, unless this RB is so amazing that he doesn’t need holes to run through, then the other team will be stopping him.

Baker Mayfield all day! Washington needs a closer. P E R I O D. Build out from there. How long is Foles gonna last w that mighty line ? Bortles got a coach and Ramsey and Campbell. Same w Keenum. Bortles and Keenum showed they could close in college. Mayfield the same… Watson /Wentz too . That is what Skins #1 need is. Gots to keep up w the NFC dynamic QBs or be passed by another season. No if ands or buts imo. Just being frank.
20 % chance…but there is a chance.
Wow so all the Clemson DL guys are staying in school
that really is going to shake up the first round this year
None of them wanted to be drafted by the Redskins.
Boo
Even more dependant on a QB run, now.
Most drafts I have seen don;t have a lot of DT going before we pick if any.
Top DEs go quickly.
Yeah I want top DT who is Payne.
For whatever reason, a 100 yard performance still remains the bench mark for a good day on the gridiron at every skill position. I don’t know if it’s because we fans just naturally think the whole field is 100 yards, so there. But any time a RB or WR goes 100 yards, broadcasters and fans alike always make special note of it. So I went back and looked, here’s every 100 yard day for the skins last year:
Chris Thompson- 106 yards vs LA Rams (105 receiving)
Chris Thompson- 188 yards vs Oakland (150 receiving)
Chris Thompson- 138 yards vs San Fransisco (77 rushing)
Jamison Crowder- 135 yards vs Dallas (123 receiving)
Samaje Perine- 126 yards vs Saints (117 rushing)
Samaje Perine- 130 yards vs Giants(100 rushing)
Jamison Crowder- 141 yards vs Giants (all receiving)
Only 2 games where a back ran for over 100 yards, and 4 where a receiver got over 100 yards! That isn’t nearly enough to have a winning season. Frankly you want to have at least 1 guy break the 100 mark each game IMO.
Yet we could have had a winning season pretty easily without all the injuries and a few late game meltdowns.
I like the 2-back combos, like Atl. Each back gets a break, so the body holds up better over 16 games. Perine can be one of them, maybe. We need another pounder. CT should be kept for 3rd downs and passing situations.
How ’bout a faster big guy.
TI almost up to 90 comments after 4 days
bwahahahaha
Meh….news feed.
How long before first-pick adjusts to all these badasses staying in school?
I will ask the guy’s at fanspeak at least about when they will do it. Don’t know anyone at first-pick.
Thanks
We need takeaways
better pressure from the dline would create more opportunities for those takeaways
Sure, you can get both.
Redskins Defense needs to be Offensive. Derwin James/Mikah Fitzpatrick.
I think fans are a bit hard on Perine. Dude is not a lead back, but if got a lead back, he’s a great second “punch” that will wear your down.
Yeah, but, need a RB
Bibbs showed me something late in the season.
Need a RB
Guys…
You can’t win consistently with average to mediocre talent at skill positions.
true and I’m advocating skilled defensive lineman. lol
…. and having talent at skill positions doesn’t matter if you can’t stop the run or open holes.
Yeah, sure….build the lines. That’s important, but don’t we all watch the games every week and marvel at 1st round RB’s, QB’s and WR’s?
There’s a reason Bortles and Foles are playing in the championship games and it’s not because they’re stellar qb’s.
…but there’s also a reason why the Eagles won 14 games this season. There’s a reason why Jared Goff has played well.
we need upgrading at rb, wr, TE, inside backer, safeties etc. we don’t need a qb but we probably will and that affords one less pick for obvious areas of need that we can all plainly see
Well in Foles case it’s because the Eagles didn’t play him for most the season… If they had then the Eagles would have a top 5 draft pick.
I think the Jags just hit Rothlisberger again.
I think he just threw another TD pass against them.
Yes we need to keep building the lines.
But we saw this year what happens when you have a decent line and no great talent at RB/WR/TE.
There ya’ go^^^
Our offensive line needs upgrading as well. i think as fans we overstate ‘our’ guys ability. Watching the line play of the Saints, Steelers, Eagles, Vikings, if you can’t see we need to improve greatly idk what to tell you. and of course I’ve been wanting a stud rb for some time. Imagine how good KC and the offense could be with a strong ground attack and a healthy Reed(or his replacement)
We need a better RB and better blocking TE’s
yes, and better LG, RT, and I’d not wait too much longer for a top LT is one’s available in the next draft or two
btg • 6 minutes ago
I want no part of a qb at 13
Keep building the lines
__________________________________________________
I dunno about that philosophy….that’s why the Browns are in the predicament they are now. They “overthunk” it. If you’re a team that needs a QB and you see a guy you absolutely believe in, then draft him.
Do you believe in mayfield or Jackson
I don’t
I really don’t know. But I’m growing tired of the “I’m not gonna draft (X) position in the first round” philosophy. We really kind of need everything, right?
I saw almo and the Giants run all over us
yes they did because we have a weak d-line. even with Allen and Ion, we need more quality depth, not JAGS
Football 101! The teams with the best lines win! They make everyone behind them better, rb’s, TE’s, qb’s, Linebackers, and secondary.
OTOH, stud safety or qb with poor line play, well it doesn’t work. Cleveland is an organization that rivals ours for mediocrity or less. Unfortunate but true.
“We really kind of need everything, right?”
I’m starting to think that’s not true at all. Given all the tradeoffs in the NFL, with rules and processes currently in place, you have to focus the team on areas of excellence. This was probably always the case. So, if you are going to be excellent at some-thing(s) that is half the battle. Being good at everything is a constant 7-9 win cycle. You have to be better enough than someone at something strategic area(s) to be able to have impact. For a lot of teams, that’s the lines. You might be able to build a crazy offense that stresses the other team in other ways. But whatever it is, need strategy and vision. If you just take (as example) BPA and pieces that are viewed deficiencies you put together a pretty good team, but not a championship one.
well said
Preston Smith had more interceptions than Josh Norman this season.
Norman was mailing it in
i cracked up / cried at that comment by norman where he said he thought he was going to a winning team to win championships. he must totally be kicking himself in the ass for signing here.
He signed for the money just like he would have with any other team that offered him more.
so…. another team would have given him 14 mil per year instead of 15. who would even notice that? he thought he was coming to an up-and-coming, winning team. poor, rich, guy.
If he thought that he was stupid.
flounder,
well…. that’s what he said he thought.
That’s a serious indictment. I’ve also been critical of Norman but he was also injured. Mailing it in is a stretch.
Go back and watch
He was avoiding tackles
yes, he never healed fully imo. crack some ribs peeps and see how hard it is to even breathe. Playing football in the NFL? unreal
Norman wasn’t a INT guy ever. He’s a stick to the hip and break up the pass, type of CB.

Drafts are a real crapshoot.
https://datascopeanalytics.com/blog/the-chance-of-a-bust-in-the-nfl-draft/
…and ours has been more crap than shoot until a couple of years ago.
From an NFL Personnel Exec:
1st round pick…immediate starter and provides some impact play for your team in the first year
2nd round pick…strong contributor/fringe starter
3rd round pick….rotational player/fringe starter
4th round pick…contributor/ST’s player
5th round pick…ST’s player
6th round pick….ST’s player/Developmental
7th round pick…Development/Project
That’s what you want when you draft them sure.
But after a few years, don’t look at what they should be look at what they are.
Preston Smith for example. What he is: NFL starting caliber DE/OLB type who can get you pressure for a few games a year, but is streaky. Does it make him a bust? No. He can be in the NFL for 10 years with that level of talent.
I agree.
One thing that skews this is are the organizations sticking with their first round and second round picks a lot longer than perhaps they should at times. Griffin comes to mind but he is far from alone!
I think there’s truth to that. Griffin is a hard case, because it’s a QB, star power, all that stuff.
yes, skews the data even more if the first or second round pick is a qb. no GM/organization wants to admit they drafted the wrong guy.
there are stretches of games where you think he could take over a game; and then doesn’t
He will have 1 game every season where he will look like an all star. He will have something like 3-5 games where he at least makes an impact, gets a sack and a half makes 1 play to end 1 drive. The rest of the games, he won’t embrace himself. That’s probably his floor for the next few years of his career. I think this team needs a guy like that, probably 2, to hold down 1 edge spot.
I want no part of a qb at 13
Keep building the lines
no doubt! First 2 rounds offensive and/or defensive linemen please.
Da’Ron Payne and Quentin Nelson are available. Who ya got?

I hope he’s available
No to Mayfield
Nope
I don’t want him either…
Lamar Jackson it is, then!
RG4!!
Same thing was said about Watson.
I was just playing, guys.
That said, I don’t really want a duel threat QB with Jay as the coach. I think his system suits quick hit pocket guys with a little ability to move. Case Keenum would be a good fit, I think.
The guy who I’d really like is this Kurt Cousins character. We should bring him in for a look/see!!
He’s not the same, neither is/was Watson. Bobby Griffin had straight line speed, not lateral quickness. He also was reticent to slide and coupled with a rather frail physique, prone to injury. He obviously was stubborn to a fault. Not all qb’s that run are the next Griffin. Thank God!
RG3s problem wasn’t his lack of quickness or misplaced athleticism, not at least… it isn’t that thing that keeps him off NFL rosters
his speed WAS his strength. He lost that. Once that was gone, he needed to learn to play more under center and either refused to learn the position or couldn’t.
Right, but without THAT, what argument do they have? ZERO.
Jackson doesn’t seem like a Jay kind of QB

Yeah, lot’s of hamsters would, hhmm, check out fanspeak after….
we’ll actually have done enough defacto Monte Carlo analysis via fanspeak that we’ll know everything that they know via their tracking metrics and algorithms.
So are you keeping Norman at his 17mil cap hit or saving 8mil of that and cutting him?
I think you keep him one more year and than make the move to cut him when you would saver more money.
If you are letting Breeland walk, then I think you have to keep Norman. Not sure if I’d extend him or re-structure, he’s already looking at this deal being up at 33.
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washington-redskins/josh-norman-9964/
Even if they do keep him he isn’t going to last past next year.

What’s up, ya’ll? Just wanted to pop in on a busy day and say hi.
Meanwhile, I wondered if everyone here thought the same as me Sunday evening during Saints-Vikes:
First, I was thinking, omg, Brees is going pull the comeback on Minnesota like he did the Skins….
Then, I almost felt sorry for the Saints getting the dagger like that in the last seconds. Almost! But not quite.
(PS Is it wrong that I hold Sean Payton’s tenure with the Pukes against him?)
Brees did pull the comeback.
And then Keenum pulled the comeback and left no time for anymore comebacks.
that wasn’t keenum as much as it was that idiot on defense…omg…went for a highlight hit versus just grab him…incredibly stupid.
Yeah agreed.
I think he was actually trying to AVOID him so as not to draw a PI call, which would have put them FG range.
NOILRMOT DC!
Not wrong at all coach. Payton always looks like the kind of guy who’s gonna walk into someone’s office and try to fist fight them because they accused him of steeling lunches.
steeling or stealing?
Tealing
loved the “teal curtain” thing. that is funny and clever on a few levels.
brees was freakin’ awesome. i’m a little concerned that the team best-suited to beat the patriots* might not have won. in the moment, i was surely rooting for the vikings, but my main concern is “anybody but the damn patriots*.”
Jag’s Vikings SB will have less viewers than an rerun of Friends.
that would be my ideal match-up this year.
I’d like to see Vikings versus Patriots. Imagine if TB had Julio Jones to throw to.
Nice to see you made it over here!
Glad to be here!

He
Hey it’s Josh Norman in a kilt.
is Josh Scottish?
The Normans were French!
D’uh.
so…. bastard?
sorry… been watching lots of GOT lately.
Nice suit.
Okay, this is more like it. Daniel Jeremiah on Mayfield, one year later:
“Coming into the game, I felt like Mayfield was well-positioned as a likely first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, I talked to a scout before the game who went a step further. He told me he’d be shocked if Mayfield isn’t a top-15 pick.
Mayfield finished the night 23-of-35 for 287 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT (he also caught a TD pass). While it wasn’t his best game, I’m sure of this much: Mayfield is going to be a starting-caliber QB in the NFL, and in a league with a bunch of teams looking for one, he’s going to come off the board early.”
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000901658/article/scouting-baker-mayfield-in-rose-bowl-qb-worthy-of-top15-pick
divergent opinions, imagine that! smh
Same guy with divergent opinions.
CYA?
I’d put it down to having more information.
lol
Why lol? He had a whole additional year of tape to review. Sorta like after 2015 most of us, and the Redskins, didn’t think KC was worth $18M a year based on his limited tape.
yes, since even first round picks are slightly better than a coin toss to make it. Covering his bases if you will
Same guy with divergent opinions.
———————
this is like moe, imaginary god love him. offer enough predictions and some will prove correct.
I look. Yes he’s got the arm and skills. But the 137 million dollar question is, can he stop the off field antics enough so that he’s able to focus on studying the game, and the cerebral side of winning?
That semi-final was the only game I saw Mayfield play. I was not very impressed with his passing ability. But I thought he showed a lot of leadership
Roquan
Toquan
Da’Ron
Saquon

come on…. i don’t watch much college ball, but you guys are teasing me with these names, right? is this a key and peele skit?

george carlin cracks me the f up.
have you heard his thing about “shell-shocked” evolving/devolving into “post-traumatic stress disorder”?
Is Preston Smith a “hit” or “miss”?
I think usually, the “bust’ description goes to players who, after 3 years are not a starter, correct?
I think he is a hit but I would like to see more.
3 seasons in is a long time for the “jury is still out” response.
OTOH, we haven’t had any Dline play; he’s done well when there’s been pressure from the interior (Hatch, Allen).
if the choices are just “hit” and “miss”, he’s a hit. applying percentages, i’d say we should be about 75% satisfied with his play.
You would say that! – Greg
Motivation will tell.
He’s a hit for a second round pick, IMO. I also think he’s going to continue to improve.
build a stronger dline and he, along with RK will be even better
I think it’s too early to tell yet.
No ty to Mayfield!
Most of my picks especially on defense would come from SEC schools.
lots of “SEC” talent actually plays in the B1G and ACC
Old timer mentality:
Always go SEC for defense, B1G for OL/RB, Find a QB in the PAC, and a Kicker from the Ivy League
I’d add Ohio State guys and Clemson too
I’d bring Su’a Cravens to camp and let him compete. If his head is in the game, I’d keep him. If not, I’d unload him.
…another McCloughan “special”
Wasted second round pick.
Yup…you’ll read in my upcoming piece….that’s the reason why the Redskins are in the predicament they’re in now….NON-IMPACTFUL first and second round picks (except Scherff)
But I thought Scot was the drafting messiah?
he had much better success in rds 3-5
You can’t miss on 1st and 2nd round picks to often.
Flounder likes to kiss 1st rounders
Flounder has weird auto fill……cocks…..kisses……idk
Yeah, but when you look at the JAGS…Allen Robinson, Marquise Lee, Leonard Fournette….ALL 1st and 2nd round HITS
All HIGH first/second round hits………
e.g. TW71?
Shereff was high
Maybe, but Trent was stoned.
And high, 4th overall?
player without a position
man without the desire
No thanks. I would move on ASAP
Lots of Mock drafts have Browns going QB at #1 overall, but I think that Cleveland will actually shock people, draft Barkley at 1, and pick up a QB at #4. Barkley looks like a sure thing at RB, and even the most toppy of top prospect QB’s isn’t a lock.
That could be stupid because whoever they want could be gone at 4.
The QB’s picked up at picks 2 and 3 will have Hall of Fame careers; Cleveland’s QB pick at #4 will be a one year bust. Book that shit.
I they make a play for Cousins. They’ve got plenty of “chedda”. They haven’t been able to develop a QB since Kosar.
lots of fake mockery has them trading up to 2 and taking QB-RB pair (Rosen then either Barkley or Guice)
Wow, Daniel Jeremiah….
“After a few Houdini-like plays from Mayfield, I wrote down “Johnny Manziel 2.0″ in my notebook. After studying a full 3 games, I felt like that wasn’t a great comparison. Manziel was a little more dynamic than Mayfield as both a passer and runner. I know Manziel’s NFL career didn’t pan out (mostly because of off-field issues) but Manziel did possess a unique skill set. I think a better comparison for Mayfield is Colt McCoy coming out of college. I know OU fans won’t appreciate this comparison, but I think they are similar athletes and possess similar arm talent. Both guys were big-time winners in college and I think Mayfield, like McCoy, will have a long NFL career as a solid No. 2 QB.”
or a #1 on an otherwise supremely talented team?
He’s not the first to make the Colt McCoy comparison.
there are so many OU and TT QBs to choose from, Texas must have seen less obvious?
Remember when we had that draft expert on last year, one of his basic philosophies was stay away from Big 12 prospects, and said it’s a joke of a conference.
To be fair, this was written before the 2017 season.
thanks. that’s a significant fact
So is Cravens back with the team and if so will he be a viable Safety for us next year?
For now, and No
I’d say 37% chance he is on the roster next year.
No and no.
I think the big first round surprise team may be the Giants
either trying to trade back or taking a surprise guy like Saquon Barkley, Quenton Nelson or Minkah Fitzpatrick
M Fitz is going to be #1 overall on a lot of boards as BPA overall in the draft
you mean, as opposed to ransoming the pick (“surprise”)?
They will draft there future QB.
Sam Darnold it is!
If they don’t, they should take the best LT in the draft.
#2 pick is a rare thing. They will use it to pick QB, unless they have signed on in FA
Steve Thomas Team Captain Zig-Zag_BC • 38 minutes ago
He’s [Lamar Jackson] much more advanced in terms of pocket passing and scanning the field than I thought he was before I watched his film. Much better at it than Mayfield and Allen.
_________________
In the interest of full disclosure, Steve was also one of the last I Love RGIII holdouts (DC and RGIII are the only remaining two holdouts).
Sounds like (unlike someone ELSE we know), he lived and learned.
I’ve already talked on air and written about that ad nauseum. Jackson is a more developed prospect than Griffin, by far.
You very well could be right. I haven’t done any personal research. Just the comparisons that I read draw a lot of comparisons and I want nothing to do with that.
That’s like comparing Watson to RG3.
Thank you, and I didn’t like Watson. RG3 was so far behind either one.
If his name can be used in the same sentence with RGIII, then I want nothing to do with him.
Racist!
I almost think this QB thing might not be an advantage for us, with the thought that “all these QBs going early will help talent drop to us” with the idea that, well, if all the QB talent that is emotionally coveted and marketable goes before, that considerably lowers the value of the trade back
be it us or someone else – someone signs Cousins and someone signs a Vikings QB
and they don’t draft a QB #1
If you have a pick in the top 5 and need a QB your drafting not signing an older FA.
Putting the QB question aside, I’m rooting for a RB in either round 1 or 2. Maybe Jones from USC in rd 2.
https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GM3L8oaK9A4/UFX1Fzt7o5I/AAAAAAAAC_4/e_mgMzCMtBY/s320/cowboy-shaking-head.gif
I don’t think I’d go there in round 1 unless Saquon somehow slips to us.
Lamar Jackson closer to RGIII than Marcus Mariota, but noted racist Bucky Brooks:

If Da’Ron Payne is there at #13, I’m running to the podium to take him.
Yes agreed
There should be some good defensive talent when we pick, blue chip quality players.
O heck yeah.
He’ll be there … probably at 18.
i agree, unless Roquan Smith is there
Or Derwin James, or Fitzpatrick.
I take Payne over a safety.
Even a Super Safety?
Yes
Roquan has a pot problem?
so what. So does TWill

The visual to end all visuals…
‘Alana Evans — a friend of Stormy Daniels — described a phone call she received from the porn star the day after her alleged hookup with the president.
“The visual I get has stuck with me for this entire time,” Evans said.
She added, “But having her tell me the next day when I asked how did it go and she says, ‘Well, picture this. Donald Trump chasing me around the bedroom in his tighty whities’ isn’t something that you ever forget.”
What kind of grown man still wears briefs.
Grown?
Didn’t mean that as a play on word…
It doesn’t work either way.
well, “grown” in the physical sense of becoming large and fat has happened.
Yeah, Trump is a large Mammal.

Look, as someone with a few too many lb’s. I would just say boxer briefs are the way to go if you’re a fatty.

they be saying that about us where we’re rolling in whatever we’re wearing now and that new tech thing is all the rage. there’s a brand on Amazon that has like a double, um… pouch, and you read the reviews and there ARE people complaining (knowing that these were different) that they don’t feel like their old underwear (not explicitly). Regarding the Olympics.
I think that if the Olympic committee were supersmart, they would have added a spring and fall games.
Take all the crummy judged sports out of summer and winter (ice dancing, ribbon, diving, ect) and make those the Fall games, you put them on during NFL season so the wives have something to watch while we’re all doing our thing.
Spring, I bring back some of the team sports that have been pushed out of the Olympics, especially baseball.
That sounds like too much of a good thing, to me.
I wouldn’t complain about LJackson at #13. Dude is — dare I say it? ELECTRIFYING!! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!
I don’t get it…….Griffy couldn’t tote LJackson’s jockstrap.
Official nickname: RG IV
Bullshit
IV is greater than III
Or later.
You’re comparison is based on race alone…
Don’t be silly. They’re both super athletic for the QB position. Both are faster than most WRs. Both have cannon arms. Both can be very accurate, but need work on their mechanics. RG was the better pure passer, but Lamar works in something closer to a pro-style offense. RG was faster but Lamar is shiftier. Lot of perfectly valid comparisons that have nothing to do with skin color.
Horseshit, exemplified
Okay, good talk.
Me too! That’s what I like about you, D_C, you’re always open to new ideas. Seriously though, Griff just plain sucks, imo.
funny little story about the buccaneers and the packers.
when tampa bay was an expansion team, they were placed in the same division as the packers. (remember the orange creamsicle unis?) anyway, their first meeting was in green bay. the scoreboard listed the teams as “tampa vs green bay”. for their game in tampa bay, it showed “tampa bay vs green”.
Remember what a clusterfuck those old divisions were in the day?
St. Louis Cardinals in the NFC East along with the Dallas Cowboys.
MAKES SENSE TO ME!
– No one
cowboys in the east still makes no sense – but i don;t want to change that….
I only do because I’d think they would be far less successful as a franchise if they had to play smaller market teams in the south.
Falcons, Saints, 49ers, and LA Rams were the NFC West!!!
1st season in 1976 the Bucs played in the AFC West
2nd season they played in NFC Central with the famous Bay story

Yep. That locks it.

is this a country guitar standoff or a football game?
Cuttin’ heads. I’ve got Steve Vai.
i surely do not expect brady* or the patriots* to lose this game. it would be nuts to expect that. heck, we haven’t even figured out how they’re cheating this season.

i’m usually asleep, or out having too much fun when snl is on these days. however, i do expect it’s some sort of electronic subterfuge.

13. Washington Redskins
Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming. I can’t buy the Redskins transition-tagging Cousins at nearly $29 million or franchise-tagging him at $34 million in 2018. Just can’t see either happening. Therefore, quarterback is the clear-cut question mark for next season. Allen will need to take better care of the football in the NFL than he did in 2017 and lean on the run game and defense as a rookie.
I’ve got a good feeling about this guy.
He really tried to do too much this season. Lost a bunch of the talent that was around him the season before. Jay would coach up this kid nicely IMO.
I’m thinking that Josh Allen might be a big no in rd 1 from me. He has the physical tools but I have too many questions about him. Plus, he did not have a successful season this year, against poor Mountain West competition.
No thanks.
but remember that short highlight reel? you know, where he looks like A Rodgers in those three plays? that’s sumthin right thare!
Ditto this. Not before the 3rd round.
13. Redskins: Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville
Here comes a surprise! With Kirk Cousins off to the Buffalo Bills in a free agency shocker, Jackson lands in Washington as the new main man. Now it’s on Jay Gruden to coach him up.
No! Noooooo! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL
I will turn off the fucking draft if this happens.
I will literally grab my pitchfork, drive to Ashburn and ambush Bruce Allen!
Don’t forget your “Jason” hockey goalie mask.
He’ll know its me (particularly when the police arrest and identify me).
Hey, if Jackson grades out by the scouts, aces the interviews, can talk football like a mechanic talks cars, then… fine. But if the marketing department is pulling the trigger?
I don’t want Jackson at #13 but I do like him. Jay can coach up a QB and frankly, that shouldn’t even be a question after getting Dalton to the playoffs in his first 3 years in the league and then a 4th rounder to win a division title in his first year as a starter.
So, I like what Jay will be able to do with a rookie QB or even a young pro like AJ McCarron.
Especially if we add to our defense and run-game.
Yes, but KC is special, very, very special. He’s the third best QB in the league (and number one in my heart)!
-Hopeless
‘Best QB the Skins have ever had.’
SMDH….
If you don’t count the Super Bowl winners and like 3 other guys.
that line was classic (-ly ignorant). can you even imagine if jurgensen played when the rules are like they are now?
Can’t see it. He wouldn’t grade that high after the interviews are all done. (but that’s based on a second-hand opinion from a source that would not name HIS source, a journalist would only go as far as saying it was an NFL rep who SHOULD know QBs well.)
This kid is going to be a star. He’s much better than some people think.
I think so. Similar story to Quincy Patterson coming to VTech next year.
He’s much more advanced in terms of pocket passing and scanning the field than I thought he was before I watched his film. Much better at it than Mayfield and Allen.
Yeah.
A story about a guy who held in a sneeze and ruptured his throat just hit my feed.
Probably not as bad as what I’m picturing. But still…ouch.
Nasty that’s why I let mine fly.
“rupture” is not what you’re looking for in a body organ
Never ever hold in sneezes or farts.
RB Bryce Love returning to Stanford for senior season. Shart. One of my favorite RB prospects.
“Word was he really liked the school part of school.”
————
That is NOT what this is about!
I don’t like it because he’s still available in the fake mockery in the 3rd round. If that were real, and the Skins needed QB, DEF, and then Love, that’d have been pretty sweet. But for him, maybe school, maybe he got a later grade than he was shooting for, and now, he has chance top 10 if he has a great year… and not injured…
Blake Bortles had ONE pass over 10 yards against the Steelers.
He had some huge runs that kept drives going.

It’s safe to say that there will be 2-3 1st round QB’s available when the Skins pick.
Maybe drafted in the 1st. Not so sure they’re 1st round talent though.
But screw that. We’re seeing UDFA in conference games.
Using a pick on a QB in the 1st anymore is cray!
And half of ’em will be busts. WHICH half keeps GM’s up at night.
We are also in an era where guys can be NFL QB’s even if the talent is only so-so. The rules are so QB friendly that as long as you have an average arm and your head on straight you can be successful.
Frankly if I were a GM, I’d spend 90% of my time evaluating QB’s by looking at their work habits, interviews, practice routines and off the field activities.
And the other 10%? Beer and nachos!
Say what you will, but history has shown you can’t trust non-drinkers to be good leaders.
Fact
they’re looking for some modicum of mobility as well; which some prob emphasize more than others
Yes but I feel like you can watch a few games of a guy and get a sense of if they have the arm, legs and mechanics quick, and you can figure out what needs to be improved.
But it’s the other stuff that makes a guy a real success. It’s things like Kirk asking for office space so he can watch tape.
idk about that…got to have a really good qb, or a really good rushing attack(helps the qb btw) and a strong, oportunitic defense. Miracles help too (Minnesota)
Well that’s the larger part of team building yes. I was talking just about when you are off finding QB’s, that’s what I would look at.
I am hoping the Redskins get to reap the rewards of other teams’ panic to pick a QB and allow another blue-chip stud to fall in the first round.
Yeah their will be probably 4 QB’s taken before the Redskins pick at 13.

Big selloff in Cryptocurrency world
*POP! goes the bubble*
My Brother and Uncle were obsessing over that stuff over Christmas. My brother had inside info from a friend at MIT and got ethereum at $6, my uncle build a mine for bitcoin. I told them to sell it all off that day because the bubbles gonna burst at some point and probably sooner rather than later. As soon as a few governments start thinking about it, they will shut it all down.
They can’t
the current selloff is because S. Korea is threatening to shut it down

Sure they can, and they will via justification that it’s a widely used currency in things like terrorism, drug trafficking, internet fraud, ect.

They do. In the form of people determining the reward outweighs the risk.
Still good money to be had mining. I don’t know why I’m not buying up a server rack, stuffing it with processors and putting it to work for my retirement. Missing an easy opportunity really.
because you have to pay for a server rack, processors, and electricity?

I mined for about a month (within a consortia: so when one computer finds one, it is shared by a weighted formula with everyone based on how much power and time your computer has used), and I did the math at that time that it would break about even, but the price was $400. but now you have to burn a ton of time and have a screaming fast bleeding edge setup.
it is, aside from a pyramid scheme, a really good simulation about what mining is really like and the lesson here should be: be kind, rewind. I mean… recycle. recycle those rare earth elements, it’s just good for ‘Merica.
after it was explained to me, I had a Dilbert comic strip about “pyramid schemes” go through my head
So, you’re saying, a bunch of people, got together, and they developed an algorithm. Initially very few people knew anything about it, so whether dolled out or mined, they were able to hoard it, and they purposely designed it so that the algorithm had diminishing and more difficult returns as time went on to allow less and less (relatively speaking) of the currency on the market, more or less assuring an artificial scarcity that the original bunch of people would become basically rich beyond their wildest dreams.
While blockchain and the idea of crytocurrency is valuable to the technology innovation aspect, the implementaion of crytocurrency tends to be a pyramid scheme. And since many economic markets are driven by psychology and emotion, once that bubble bursts, it will approach the tangible value of the cryptocurrency. And that value is whatever additional value it has in concealing illegal black market activities, minus the power required for mining; which BTW, Bitcoin alone was trending toward all the power in the world being used to mine it, in like 2021. So it has SOME value, but the value of all this for society will be that eventually our US currency will be digital blockchain. The unvalue will be that a bunch of get rich quick folks who are ignorant of the scheme will get fleeced. Hopefully that doesn’t end up being like the housing market collapse.

I hate PSmith’s “no no no” finger wag.
Nothing is as revolting as the ewoc’s “I’m eating soup!” gesture.
Zeewok, yes, I agree. And college kids are copying him. He should be banned from Earth.
Yea kids and pros copying him. Was he the first to do that?
I’m thinking he has the most influential platform so…….ban him, take a hard-line against douchebags.
That shit makes me feel like I need to vomit

Yep
The cheapest sport that any kid can get into….paper football
I was All-Pro
Penny Basketball is pretty cheap.
Gambling in penny b-ball, winner gets the quarter.
Rock Paper Scissors
Baseball is cheap.
Frisbee golf!
There used to be a park in NoVa for that.
There are at least four now: Giles Run, Pohick, Bluemont, Burke Lake.
I used to play the one in Blumont, my yard backed into the park as a kid.
There still is. Burke Lake Park has a Frisbee golf course.
Basketball is cheaper
Yeah
NASCAR ratings are way down this year from previous years. Lost nearly 50% of their audience since 2006.
All TV ratings are down people aren’t watching TV the way they used to they are DVR’ing or streaming things a lot more.
yes, and some it could be how the ratings are gathered. official Nielsen style ratings matter the most for only the live view of any show, though they do have some stuff that within X amount of time (it’s like a 48 hour window, or was). ironically, I think with internet TV, more people also now have a digital antenna for network broadcasts, and that isn’t going to give you customer feedback information like digital cable or tv over IP could.
One way to make NASCAR interesting would be to make the course a figure 8 LOL!

I’m not a motor head, but the Formula 1 track in Austin is just plain bad ass. Watching those cars negotiate S Turns, banked U Turns and then hauling ass on the straightaways is pretty cool. Especially when the vieing perspective comes from a helmet-level Go Pro camera.
wonder if part of it is that they closed some of the smaller tracks in their core area for the bigger ones in bigger media markets
Most poor kids can’t afford hockey gear, fact.
Nailed it.
or football gear
Definitely a rich kid sport.
Golf
Yeah
I played hockey as a kid. That equipment was expensive. When I hit a growth spurt, I taped National Geographics to the bottom of my shin guards.
We played street hockey on roller skates.
Bullshit! I’m a NASCAR freak in Boston, Massachusetts! – Greg
I see some of the staunchest #Kirkhivers fracturing over the past couple days…excluding Paulsen of course.
Baseball is just boring to watch. Fun to play. Boring as hell to watch.
Local farm team games are cool, and cheap.
Got no probs watching baseball.Unless it’s a West Coast night game, I catch almost every Rangers game.
Retirees have all kinds of time and hotdogs in the fridge 😁
I’m not far from Arlington. Haven’t seen one pitch my entire time here.
Nice ball park. The new one will be even better.
Isn’t the current one already new?
Been around for a while. The new one will have a dome, and will be climate controlled.
@NFLdraftscout FINALLY shows some credibility 😁 !..his mock gives Skins Mayfield and a DT from FL.State. Hope jinx factor doesnt get involved. He jsnt aware of Skins D line cap hits but thats ok

Absolutely

I still see that Saints DB both completely wiff and take out the only other guy that has any chance of stopping the TD and wonder if someone was paid to tank the game (do it intentionally) could have done it better. I mean, if you’re trying to tank, you pull a PI to make sure.

This is bullshit. Every naked ski fail on youtube, has a nut sack. And the one shot of a thin under a ski uni that I found…leaves a lot to be desired.

Yum coffee. Went to bed last night and it was in the balmy 60s. Woke up to freezing rain in the 20’s. This sucks.
Aye. That arctic front went through here early evening. Not getting out of the 20s today. Sunny and dry though.

Lol, damn Nazi paratroopers.
Definitely not Nazi’s.
C’mon man, it’s a joke. You know…Wagner… flight of the Valkyries… nevermind 🙁
I get that BC, I just hadn’t had any coffee yet LOL
Truthfully, many cultural things from Germany and Belgium get a bad name because of the damned Nazis, past, present, and mythological.
I lived in Copenhagen in the early 1970’s. Back then, nudity was common in advertising. Cracked me up.

You might enjoy this. Crazy what the more liberal europeans will do.
In Denmark, across the border from Germany, there are a couple of “Fleggaard” supermarkets (belonging to the Costco family) where you really find everything your heart craves, especially high tech and household appliances; a lot cheaper than in Germany. For this commercial, more than 100 skydiver women jumped from a transport plane, you see them in free fall forming the ad text: “SIEMENS washing machine for only 269 Euros”.
Called “quite simply the best commercial ever made” by a respected advertising expert.

I love the Winter Olympics. Favorite events: alpine skiing, ski jumping (especially the ‘big hill’), the sliding events (bobsled, luge, skeleton). The short length speed skating is fun (not to be confused with ‘short track’). And Olympic Hockey is what the NHL could be.
Hot girls going fast on skis.
In a two-piece. Olympics improved 1000%
Haha, they’d get shredded if they crashed. I just like to imagine some sexy thongs under their suit.
I will say, you guys should listen to this show. At times it’s got more fun topics than the regular show.
What up bitches?
I’m back at work and hating life.
Then you are the bitch, no?
Yeah I guess.
Don’t go out like that, lol. I’m just kidding man! Pick yourself up, people like you!

I think it was RK’s dominant sack on Slick Rick that put him over the top with the ProFootball writers.
