Talking QB’s with Joel Corry
Joel Corry of CBS Sports joins our show to break down the Alex Smith contract, what the skins did right and wrong durring this whole quarterback swap. We also ask if he thinks the team will try to franchise tag Kirk or not?

Making her a red velvet cake from scratch this year
Super max bonus blow points that I’ll spend the rest of the year cashing in
Realistically though, mid-April
Okay….March
Okay about the 3rd time I open my mouth and say something dumb
Gotta make a memorize an If Yes Then chart
Red velvet from snatch?
Not sure about that one
That evening…..
Truth
FYI Ziggy Hood played 49% of all DEF snap last season second behind Ioannidis who played 53.5%
Fire Manusky?
get him legit talent
So what’s the problem, then?
Have to get better, more legit talent
Rank by DEF Snaps played
Ioannidis
Hood
McGee
Lanier
McClain
Francis
Allen
Jones
Banks
how many defections, and defection attempts, do you think we will have during the olympics?
actually, i guess if you were going to try to escape north korea, this would be an especially bad time to try.
two
I’m hoping a few DEMS made a break for NK
but realistically zero is my pick on how many we will have
i agree it will be zero. or at least zero who attempt to defect and live.
zero we hear about
How effective will Roquan Smith be with ZHOOD as the nt in front of him
On the depth chart right now Hood *should* be the 3rd NT. Behind Francis and McGee.
My question still stands
And my statement still stands. Hood’s our 3rd option. Francis was good, flashed at times with pressures on the QB, needs to get to a point where he can do it more, be on the field more. McGee can eat a ton of space if nothing else.
Who started all year long at the nose
I’m talking reality
You aren’t
I assume that they would use him like the Jags use Telvin Smith
and you could still use your 2nd round pick on DL, and/or maybe even 4th or 5th on “Deldrin” Senat
Yay Senat
Tremaine will shed the block that ZHood let by.
Dline first round period (unless for some reason Rosen is still on the board, of course).
not very
Because why not put out a crazy hypothetical.
Skins attempt to tag and trade Kirk to the Browns.
Kirk realizes he doesn’t want to play for Cleveland.
Kirk offers skins a long term deal for the same money they are offering Smith.
Skins welsh on trade for Smith, sing Kirk.
There’s a .00000000000001% chance right?! Just like there’s a .000000000001% chance the Skins do a successful tag and trade.
What if skins sign Smith and trade him to a needy team and keep Cousins?
What if Musk’s Telsa hits an asteroid which then impacts the Earth ending all life
what happens to Football season?
Holy shit!
That’s that egomaniac’s plan!
Nice avatar *****
I felt like, I spent an hour of my morning looking at this thing. It deserves a lil somethin
Hell yeah.
are they going to keep the cameras running on that? if so, it would be fascinating to see what happens as the car approaches/enters the asteroid belt.
I mean, eventually it would probably make its way past the asteroid belt.
again, I imagine that anything big enough to be a concern would hit that Tesla like a freight train at top speed
the engineer might spill his coffee, but it’s staying on track, and the Tesla will be well… how fast do the asteroids move relative to the velocity vector the Tesla would be traveling at? is it possible to turn metal and plastic into vapor at that speed? I mean, the asteroid(s) of note would be orders of magnitude more massive than a Tesla.
It would be melted into the nose section of the asteroid like bird shit.
Some folks are overly impressed with Tesla and Musk.
that’s more likely than the Skins re-neg on the trade unless you know, A Smith fails a physical or something
that is how UNLIKELY the Skins re-neg is, it would be professional suicide as it were
“Kirk realizes he doesn’t want to play for Cleveland”
This makes absolutely no sense.
Also……

FYI the Hog Sty crew thoughtfully provided you the key NFL offseason dates
at the top of the page under Hog Sty Projects > 2018 Off Season Date to Remember
It does require you guys to scroll up which is hard for some of you…
‘Scroll up’?!?
If to tricky just hit refresh and you will be at the “top”
Nope

No can do, Kemosabe.

I do take full credit for providing the NFL Operations Link for the key dates
I found that site last season
they have lots of good info on that site
the NFL has a few sites they really do not publicize much with good info
True. NFL even had a buried stats page that broke down OL play for a while.

Part of me wishes Bruce would try some stupid shit like that to inadvertently cast shade on himself.
why are people thinking there will be some sort of fancy tag-and-something with cousins? he’s gone. we’re not getting anything other than possibly a compensatory pick.
and, actually, does our acquisition of smith reduce the chances of a compensatory pick for cousins?
You know why. Super Bowl is over, the talking heads gotta throw pasta against the wall.
What are you, tryna bond with Greg?
What, the odds are really high right for Bruce to pull that off (really less than 1%)?
— Daily Dumb Redskins Fan and Sport Reporters who need click bait

it could happen, not sure what the % chance of it actually happening would be
but it would all have to do with another Team or four wanting to get this done before any real or fake Free Agency begins. And the spectrum of Free Agency begins Feb 13th. Goes from your own team, to FTville, to legal tampering, to then full Free Agency.
Drugs, Danny, drugs.
Curious if Jacksonville tags Robinson
Yeah, me too. Pretty bad injury he’s recovering from though.
Acl injuries are not what they used to be
Agreed. Still, he plays a ‘speed and quickness’ position so there’s always risk.
Unfortunately most players still don’t regain their full strength until the second year after the injury, so he’ll probably have a down year in ’18.
I just don’t know that he’s the vet leader WR I’d be looking for. He’s got the measureables obviously and CAN put up numbers…
doesn’t feel like he’s the driven Garcon type lead by example WR the young guys need here
Who’s the young guys that you are speaking of?
Crowder and Grant are going into their fourth years
Doc into his third
My guy is stepping on to the roster this year 🙂
Feb 13th: Beginning at 12 noon, New York time, NFL clubs may begin to sign players whose 2017 CFL contracts have expired. Players under contract to a CFL club for the 2018 season or who have an option for the 2018 season are not eligible to be signed.
Getting something done before Feb 13th would actually be a bonus for Kirk, though Minnesota (as example) does not have to sign one of their QBs immediately.
This is when the window opens for Brown and Breeland.
..
When is the window to franchise tag someone? When can it be rescinded?
Can’t rescind once its signed.
March 6th – ?

Great, thanks.
I was just thinking that maybe the FO would want to tag Cousins in the event KC backs out of Smith deal.
Tag deadline ends before FA begins.
KC won’t back out. First, would do long term damage to organization. Second, they got a great deal for AS.
I’m thinking the Chiefs are praying the skins don’t back out.
Feb. 20: First day for teams to use franchise or transition tag.
March 6: Deadline (4 p.m.) for teams to use franchise or transition tag.
There it is
So we might have a new spending bill soon that increases the debt? Stunner.
What, did Pelosi finally stroke out?
No idea. But ‘bi-partisan’ bill that made it out of the Senate.
Yeah, she was doing her best to fuck that up.
No doubt she want more more more for her parties special interests. You know, ‘negotiating’. We The f’n People…

Meanwhile at the National Prayer Breakfast:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DlNF_ukr0I
who pays for the national prayer breakfast?
The Russians!
Damn Russians. They’re everywhere.
there are some old people in the hot tub on Saturday mornings.
every other day it’s usually dominated by Asian nationals.
but these old people, aren’t speaking Yiddish or German sometimes broken English. methinks the Russians ARE everywhere. maybe the Russian mob, dunno.
there are a couple of early early 20’s women who aren’t going to win a beauty contest, but they’re pretty enough, take 1 lane up in the pool and do like almost synchronized swimming– they have Olympic style bodies. and that language is E European if not Russian. They ARE everywhere. I suspect the girls are there to make sure they keep US spies away from the old men who are meeting up in the hot tub and sauna on Saturday mornings. But they (the chicks and the old men) speak freely in front of me, prob obviously knowing that I don’t speak Russian.
I assume that any man that responds to their Russian, the women seduce, take back to their G Mason area apartment, and then have them chopped up and taken out in small suitcases.
I’ve seen it a HUNDRED times.

is Carson Wentz the keynote?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Prayer_Breakfast
lovely. who pays for it?
the cost analysis, as always, prob depends on your political view
if you view any and all costs for security of the POTUS and Congressmen as part of the cost, then the gov prob pays a lot, but not unlike if say, the POTUS wanted to go to Target to pick up some socks and peanut butter. sounds like the rest of it is paid for by a non-profit via donations. so, it’s tax free!
paid thru prayer donations
CT made some comments on KC and what his true intentions were
did he say something about money?
Chris Thompson expects Kirk Cousins to go get ‘every single dollar he wants’
Kirk Cousins 2.0: Kirk Goes Gangsta
All of you who are criticizing cousins or any NFL player for that matter, for trying to get as much money as possible, are real naive.
kwit yer troll’n
realize though, that the illusion that game (in this case, the NFL) is a replacement, a simulation, a facsimile of something ancient and deep within us all, is hurt by free agency. these are our warriors. these are our archers. the OL are the shield wall. and we don’t trust mercenaries any farther than we can **** them.
I can **** pretty far
Teams aren’t loyal to players so why should players be loyal? The good old days where players played for 1 team, maybe 2 but it was rare, have been long gone. Cousins may well have wanted to be a Redskin, but he wants to be paid. I don’t see anything wrong with that. This is the NFL of the last couple decades.
Not naive. I completely get it and understand it. But, that doesn’t mean I have to like it. I want a QB leader on this team that wants to be a Redskin. Some pride in being a Redskins. Someone who wants to take the team to the next level. That’s part of a team mentality.
Cousins is a mercenary. He wants every penny he can get. Completely get it. But I don’t like him. Says he wants to be a Redskin, but then doesn’t even make a counter offer. He’s a fraud. Again, I understand – NFL and team would screw him over in a minute.
This is what I thought was odd: “Thompson also made clear he enjoyed playing with Cousins and that the quarterback talked about how good their pairing could be in the future.”. In the future? When cousins finally lands somewhere is he going to try to poach CT from us?
Or, Kirk thought his kitty was really that special.
i think we can pretty much throw anything cousins has said out the window.

LMFAO!
my lovely wife, bless her heart, was charged with watching our friend’s 2 kids, ages 1 and 4, for 4 days last thur-sun. on saturday she took them to “the busy bee”, at the wilston shopping center at rt 50 and patrick henry drive. it is some sort of chuckie-cheese-like, indoor playground thing for kids. while there she saw sarah huckabee sanders with her 3 kids. she said sarah looked even more unhappy than she does when defending trump lies at briefings.
I think hell has frozen over because now liberals used to be Defenders of all people and freedoms are critical of a woman’s appearance and they don’t even pretend to hide it
i find her repulsive. that’s allowed, right? i can be repulsed by what people say?
as far as the busy bee thing, i’m not commenting on her “prettiness”, but on her unhappiness. it is incredibly stressful watching children at one of those places. my wife said it was like “lord of the flies” in there.
how are you measuring her happiness? I know many people, men and women alike, who are very happy people but they have resting b**** face.
I’m not saying that mrs. Sanders has that, but I think you need to consider how you measure someone’s happiness especially someone you don’t know.
well… then, charitably, she has RBF.
Conservatives are obviously sensitive about how deplorable they’ve been, right? You didn’t insult Sanders’ appearance at all — just mentioned that she looked unhappy.
“She’s obviously unattractive … why aren’t you hurling sexist abuse at her the way we do — constantly — at Pelosi, Hillary, Feinstein, and every other female Democrat?!”
oh, and, hypocrisy, much? how many insults did hillary clinton endure about her ankles and her hair and what the fuck ever physical characteristics republicans have insulted her about for years and years and years. the fact that you say, “now liberals ….are critical of a woman’s appearance” somehow implies that it’s ok and even SOP for republicans to do that?!?!
Great place to go to catch the flu. Second only to an elementary school cafeteria.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
-Epicurus
Whoa whoa there Epicurus. The lord works in mysterious ways. So I’m told.
I’m just stirring the pot, bored this morning
that reminds, me… leftover stew in fridge, with some butter toast… make a mighty fine breakfast
logically speaking, god cannot be omniscient, omnipotent and and good. pick any 2 you like, but given reality, he can’t be all 3.
if their is purpose, and free will, then perhaps “evil” must exist
the flaw in any of this thought is if there is a God, and he is the Judeo-Christio-Islamic type of God, then his lens is eternity, and THAT changes EVERYTHING. Completely different context. Any suffering here is highly discounted.
and if there is no God or gods or vague Creator, and it is just mother nature, then much of what we see as evil is merely a natural pragmatic, its necessity to keep balance and sustainability. in this case then, WE are ALL and completely evil. we have destroyed the balance, and are certainly not “naturally” sustainable in any way.
in both cases then, it is our desire for self that is the evil. evil IS everyone doing only what they want to do for their own gain and enjoyment. if there is an Evil, a Satan, or a Devil, it is not that he wants what worldly minds think of as evil, his goal is to let each of us to be his/her own god. just like he want(s) wanted for himself or if you don’t Believe, just like his Falling myth teaches.

Frank only says that because it’s his medium.
well… the funny part is how everything in the sequence is proceeding philosophically appropriately, then it goes kinda off the rails with “love is not music”, then it goes totally emotional/personal with “music is the best”.
it’s a quote by “mary” from joe’s garage.
and yes, music was his medium. he could paint any song with any sort of “eyebrows” to change the feel of it. just genius, imo.

Zappa’s going to be doing a live tour soon. His first since he died 25 years ago.
you kid, but his kid, dweezil, does do tours. i saw frank 6 times. i’ve seen 5 or so dweezil shows. dweezil totally “gets” what frank was doing. and, my favorite part is that dweezil does not try to improve or modernize the music. he is a technician, and a very skilled guitarist, who tries to faithfully reproduce what frank did.

I can’t find the exact name of that part. However, it looks to be a butt and or stopper for when the LEE comes in contact with what is being grabbed. Once in contact, wires deploy to snare and secure what they’re grabbing onto.

I remember watching these guys work through my binoculars up by Strawberry Lake, Northeast of Provo, Utah. I was on a job in Provo and we drove up the canyon into the mountains one day to Strawberry Lake. They were digging a fire line on the southern slope of the ridge directly west of the lake. The helicopters were hovering and pumping water out of the lake, then flying over to the ridge just beyond them and dumping water on the fire. I sat up there for at least 3 hours watching them dig, yellow shirts and all. These men possess what all men should strive to have at least a little of, courage and the will to do what is necessary for the greater good. The temperature was about 102° and dry as a bone. You gotta be a tough sonofabitch to hang in those elements.
Minus the clichés injected by Hollywood, this is a great movie and based on the true story of the Yarnell Hill fire that happened in the end of June, 2013, outside of Yarnell, Arizona.

D_C… you really cited VOX? I mean, really!?!?!
Ad hominem, per usual? The article provides sources for the data they cite. I don’t see any reason to question their sources, do you?
Yes… anything by Vox is highly questionable. It’s about as far left as it gets.
Is there ANY source you consider legitimate? I mean, that isn’t flamingly right wing? I mean, you don’t consider the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, etc., to be legitimate news sources, so….?
Regarding the article I cited, it relies on data from the Social Security Administration and the non-partisan Institute on Taxation and Public Policy.
It’s cute you think so.
Typical SCamp punt.
Typical D_C cherry pick stats in a vain attempt to back up something in which he has no clue.
Still cute…
Usually if you want to prove someone is cherry picking you would offer up conflicting stats from a trusted source. You don’t do that, because you’ve got your preconceived idea and you have no interest in being educated on the subject.

Switching back to football… the Kirk “hive” won’t admit it, but it IS quite telling that teammates have been silent on Kirk so far. Chris Thompson’s comments were telling today.
Noticed he specifically mentioned money
Yup
players that will be there this year aren’t going to stick their necks out to have their heads chopped off to criticize the front office. Come on Rick you’re smarter than that. How about the defensive players for the Broncos that had High Praise and desire for him to join them?
Some criticized the Fuller trade.
Amen
Swearinger is very outspoken. But then the next day he issued an apology and took back a lot of what he said. Players have to be careful about what they say. Teams are not loyal to Player’s at all and that’s why I do not begrudge players trying to get as much money as possible for their very short careers!
He didn’t actually apologize or take anything back, as far as I could tell. He just said what’s done is done and the team will forge ahead.
also, he was not upset by kirk’s leaving. it was fuller that set him off.
Let me share a brief story of why I am not a “flaming” liberal. One of the biggest “hustles” is that if your child has an IEP (special ed.) you actually get a check from the state because your child has a disability. Many parents don’t want to remove their kids from special ed. because the checks will stop.

Then ones I know are paid cash under the table and use PLENTY of federal services
…so false.
But hey, what would I know right? I’m only in 2 of the most illegal friendly industries i in arguably the most illegal friendly and illegal populated area in the whole country.
Unless you know all 10 or 11 million of them, the ones you know doesn’t mean a whole lot. It’s estimated that undocumented immigrants pay between $13 – $17 billion in taxes annually, between income, withholding sales, property, etc. About half actually file anonymous returns because they hope they’ll eventually gain legal status, at which point they can prove they’ve paid taxes. It’s estimated that they pay, on average, a higher effective tax rate than citizens with equivalent incomes.
https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/4/17/15290950/undocumented-immigrants-file-tax-returns
But my experience directly contradicts your assertion…
So there’s that.

Why not do that with all institutions like Congress and Supreme Court hell even the president. why stop with just the military?
I’d be good with that for Congress for sure
Did I miss the big federal judiciary parade?
Yes… it was last Wednesday

See Scamp… 🙂 you have me pegged all wrong. If there was a viable Republican candidate that I could align myself with I would vote for him/her. Democrats have taken my vote for granted for years.
So… did you stand up to the Democrats for taking your vote for granted?
Got damn right…I tell all my black, lifelong Democrats that all the time. I mean…I was insulted when Hillary Clinton made a video in a barbershop with hot sauce in her purse.
Texas pete!
LOL…yeah
Its my fav
Just as long as you haven’t voted for them for at least a decade…
I would say that if you think they are taking you for granted… yet still ONLY vote Democrat… then you’re a Democrat. Party line voting is lockstep thinking

First of all, courts have determined that drug testing welfare recipients violates the 4th Amendment. Second, states that implemented such programs found that, one, the produced very few positive test results (a lower rate then the estimated 10% of Americans who use drugs), and two, the programs cost more money than they saved.
“Florida passed the measure in 2011, and the case was being closely watched by several other states, including Georgia, which passed similar legislation in 2013 but found it dogged by legal challenges. State data in Florida also showed that the measure produced few results. Only 108 out of 4,086 people tested — 2.6 percent — were found to have been using narcotics. State records showed that the requirement cost more money to carry out than it saved.”
As for me, I say “speak softly, and carry a big stick.”
We don’t need all the hoopla. Some flyovers of jets, Apaches and colors guard would suffice.
Few drones… maybe a sub chugging down the road
I’d much prefer they put the ‘parade’ money into the VA and other veteran programs.
The money spent making a military parade happen, could grow a shit-ton of cannabis for disabled veterans whom are suffering a myriad of ailments.
I loved military parades!
— Cpl Adolph Hitler 1918
Scamp…and I mean this respectfully, you’d rather argue than agree. I’ve seen many of your posts over the years and depending upon who says it, you seek the argument.
Of course. He actually started out saying the parade was a stupid idea. Then libbies agreed with him so he had to change his tune.
You should probably read my post directly below. I’m not for military parades… but for completely different reason than you guys. If we didn’t have a HUGE debt problem I would be all for them.
Cost was the main reason I cited in my first post on the subject.
I musta missed that. All I saw was a bunch of people screaming Hitler and Communists!!!

Sure, nothing wrong with wasting tens of millions of dollars and disrupting the lives of thousands of people for a pointless display of aggression.
It was the pointless display of aggression point you made that stood out. I agree with you on the money issue.
You agree?
With the waste of money while we are in a huge amount of debt yes. I DON’T agree that it is a sign of aggression. I would see it more as pride in our service members and military. The disruption of 1000’s of lives is just a absurd statement that doesn’t even deserve my time.
But you automatically go “party lines”. You assume I am liberal, when I’m really all about kindness, empathy and respect. Are there no conservatives that think that way?
Right, and because you’re a liberal (supposedly) it automatically follows that you must hate the military.
I never said liberals hate the military… that was others points.
Rick, no one here will ever mistake you for anything other than a liberal. Sorry.
….even though I’m not, that’s okay, but I notice, that most anything I say NOT sports related you IMMEDIATELY put me in some political box.
You put yourself there bud… always have. You immediately attack anything not liberal. It’s pretty easy to peg you.
The ONLY thing you have ever come across even remotely conservative is your dislike of the abuse of the welfare system.
2. undocumented immigrants
3. set asides
Well, mea culpa. I didn’t know you were a card carrying conservative. I apologize for pinning you with that giant government loving liberal movement. I’m sure the Republicans will count on your vote in the near future.
I have a better idea… vote third party
Let’s play “Let’s Make A Deal”
The ONLY issue I have with a proposed Military Parade is the cost…
So IF the Pentagon can find the $800 million dollars it lost I would be all for letting them spend some of it to roll tanks down Pennsylvania.
My whole family is either military or military contractors. Will always support them 100%… but we gotta get this $20T debt under control. It’s a HUGE threat to this country
Cancel eight F-35s. Problem solved. I’m sure a parade will keep us safer than advanced fighter jets.
Refuse to give social services to able bodied people who refuse to work, people who test positive for drug use and aren’t in active treatment and illegals… BAM!
Pretty sure we already have work requirements, and illegals aren’t entitled to social services. Also, positive drug tests are far less common among SNAP applicants than they are among the general population.
It’s funny you think that
It’s sad but not surprising that you don’t know that.

Break the glass on the emergency Kirk Cousins trade box!!
RIP BAM
Military parade… hmmm
We already have a fleet week in San Fran. Parades are fun… but why waste the money?
No thanks…
DoD looks at those type of things as great recruiting events (because they are). They are willing to do things like flybys (which they plan for and have a process to manage, and for which they sometimes make the civilian entity requesting the flyby pay for), and participate in things like fleet week, for precisely that purpose. It’s a great thing, not a waste.
It’s also viewed by DoD as a way to let the American people see their military, which is good for community relations, unless it’s a bunch of hopeless liberals.
It’s horrible
I’d say that’s quite a stretch Rick. Sounds like a partisan hit job.
Partisan my ass. It’s stupid. You don’t live in D.C. Big ass tanks (if that’s what it will be) on Constitution Ave. C’mon dude….it just doesn’t make sense.
A lot of things government does doesn’t make sense… if that’s the criteria we’re in steep shit.
Also, not sure you have some sort of formal right to DC just cuz you live there…
Not at all…I just know the infrastructure of the city…it’s logistical
I know DC plenty well… and if they can have million people marches they can have military parades…
Well, I spent the first 42 years of my life around it, so I think it’s far, far, far from horrible. I very much miss having aircraft fly over my house every day.
I’m not talking about that. I like flyovers at games….missles and heavy artillery on a city street in peace time is just dumb and unnecessary…Now, if you wanna do a military appreciation parade, I’m down with that.
Peace time? What country do you live in?
that is how out-of-touch the average citizen is with our current military. Less than 1% of the population serve. Perhaps that’s part of the problem
Having had to plan alot of airshows and participated in things like community parades, etc., I seriously doubt that anyone is going to move the 3rd Infantry Division into downtown DC. That’d be too difficult, logistically and expensive. There’s a way to do a parade in DC without tying up significant amounts of airlift and resources.
But I personally would love to see some armor on display in a parade.
I, too, have spent the first 43 years of my life around tit
It’s one of the great loves of my life
I know a development in the flight path of Love Field that will cure you of that in a matter of days.
No way.
https://media.giphy.com/media/Pq31kHa0MDWuc/giphy.gif
Rick,
what would you propose to protect our country?
Slap fights
Is a parade protecting our country?
If it is directly responsible for recruiting increases then yes.
That might true if we were having trouble recruiting, but I don’t think that’s the case. Also, I’m not sure “because I saw a cool parade” is the motivation we should be selecting for.
Hey… kids love the military… a parade might help that along.
Interesting point made on the radio…a parade with tanks and missles looks like a dictatorship.
So… France looks like a dictatorship?
France looks like France.
Deep
I know Trump said France, because what else was he going to say, but when you think of military parades I’m sure 99% of the population thinks of Russia, NK, and China … not France.
I typically think of Veterans Day parades… nothing that any other country does.
How many Veterans Day parades include tanks and missiles on display?
Hopefully all of them in the near future
Not enough.
Some of those type of parades have local units participate, and they sometimes bring equipment along as a display.
It no different whatsoever than having a B-52 in display at an airshow.
Don’t be afraid of the U.S. military. It’s there to defend the country.
I’m not afraid of the military. I just think it’s wasteful and sends a bad message.
so are we supposed to dumb down everything to the least common denominator or lowest-common-denominator rather? F*** that
How do you think we got to this point, Chief?
Only to those unpatriotic Americans that are looking to denigrate our national institutions.
National institutions like the FBI????
Hoover’s heroes?
Amazing, ain’t it? Law and order conservatives lining up to bash our country’s preeminent law enforcement agency (not to mention CIA and NSA) because they have the audacity to investigate something that clearly needs investigating. Only to turn around and accuse others of being unpatriotic for attacking our institutions? WOW

Trump pushing hard for a Soviet-style military parade in Washington, because of course.
French
Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Nothing wrong with a parade. It’s a great idea. All DoD needs to do is bring in a few units from all services, have a few flybys, let the army bring in a some motorized vehicles that are easily transportable and won’t tear up the streets. March down Constitution Ave. for a couple hours. It’d be a great recruiting tool. As an added bonus, liberals would hate it, because it’s the military being depicted in a positive light.
Sure, nothing wrong with wasting tens of millions of dollars and disrupting the lives of thousands of people for a pointless display of aggression.
#1 – a parade like that would in no way cost tens of millions of dollars
#2 – letting a couple thousand proud military service personnel march down the street, some of them with their professional equipment, is called patriotism, not a “pointless display of aggression”
#3 – all sorts of things disrupt traffic in DC. The military would be the most worthwhile. If you don’t like disruption, tell the bikers not to show up on Memorial Day Weekend. Or tell the restaurants to stop doing that “Taste of DC” thing.
Another wild, whippy day on Wall Street. All major indices ran up nicely, but closed in the red.

Yeah, I don’t think any teams other than the Pats will work with McDaniels for quite some time. That is just a move you don’t make in a small industry like that.

Y’all know he’s only staying in NE because he was promised the HC job when BB retires, right? No other way to explain it.
So he doesn’t give a crap what other teams think about him.
Until his ass is fired for back to back losing seasons!
at that point his HC record would have two poor performances on it and prob doesn’t get another HC job anyway
…then he will become the Skins HC. kidding

Ant thoughts on Jamaal Charles reuniting with Smith in DC? Charles does want out of Denver and he averaged over 4 yards per carry in a limited role.
Older and best days are way in the past
Denver paid him 900,000 last year, with incentives and bonuses up to almost 1.5 million
he’s 31, but at that price, could at least bring him in to camp on the 90 man, but that would assume they didn’t think a RB fit their draft board
Crowell in Cleveland is a guy that’s worth taking a look at . FA .
I’d rather the team spend a high draft pick on a top-rated RB than bring in a guy like Jamaal Charles, who’s older.
BC, if OBrown is there in the fourth that’s a steal

Well then let’s start those rumors

Of course, remember that this agent also represents the Colts’ GM, I believe, so by saying this publicly, he’s trying to protect that relationship.
Any thoughts on Orlando Brown Junior ?
How about as a guard ?
Also anyone have a stationary bike stand they recommend
He’s supposed to have really good feet, some sort of injury but they say he’s really athletic.
I’m reading not really cut out for LT
I’m thinking he could make a great guard
Yeah, I thought the same thing when I read up on him. “Really athletic” is always an upside for a later pick.
https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Draft-Scouting-Reports/Scouting-Report-Orlando-Brown.asp
My only recommendation on a stationary bike, don’t go cheap. I did, big waste of $150.
Well I have a great mountain bike and wanted to be able to just get a stationary stand to attach to it
the stand will likely be pretty loud with a mountain bike on it (because of the tire noise from rolling … well… on the roller)
mine isn’t terrible (Cycleops Fluid 2) but I have a road bike on it at the moment; but it made much more noise when I had a hybrid bike with like trail tires on it
got mine on sale years ago

Lavar Arrington?
LaVar was an OLB/DE not an ILB/MLB. Was best rushing from the edge, hand in the dirt.
OK. Mis-remembering.
Disagree. Although he blitzed a lot, Lavar was a SLB in our 4-3 defense — not a DE.
I want to continue that tradition

Thank you for that. Long time coming.

If I had my druthers
LB is exponentially more effective with a great DL
We’re still in progress of producing the great DL
def front 7 is sort of like the OL in my opinion, it’s a grouping
I don’t see much evidence to support that. For example, Dallas hasn’t been very good at DT, but Sean Lee has been a YUGE difference maker for them.
But yeah, if there’s a DT who’s equal to or better than either of those guys you take him. If not, you go for the LB and address DT later on, or in FA.
I think it was 2 years ago I went through all the Redskins drafts going back to 1932, we’ve never once drafted a MLB/ILB in the first round.

No. 31. He’ll be in the top 10 soon, though.

Colts are expected to request permission for HC interviews with Eagles OC Frank Reich and Saints asst HC Dan Campbell, per sources.

Be nice if they snag the Iggles OL coach.
Why?
Because he’s a damned good OL coach.
Are you a damn good Colts fan? Maybe that’s what’s up…

The effectiveness of the Flu vaccine is generally estimated to be somewhere around 30%. Effectiveness is measured as preventing you from getting the Flue at all. However, the Flue vacine can seriously reduce the severity of the flu, so even though that doesn’t fall into the “effectiveness” of the vaccine, it is still critically important.
This could help explain why 80% of the deaths have been suffered by those who did not receive the vaccine.
You know what else is effective against the flu? Washing your damn hands and staying home when you have the flu.
Right?!
-Boy in the plastic bubble
My immune system is super strong…
Suicide works as well
Only the 1st year you use it.
Keeps you from spreading it year after year
our household went round with it one weekend, I got a bad follow-on sinus infection. my wife went the pharmacy to get my script. she immediately brought home what we assume was a norovirus, lasted about 18 hours. we tried and tried to stay out of the public, and yet… boom.
No doubt… you have to go out in public for things like meds. That sucks man.
I always have my children wash their hands when we get home from being out anywhere in public. And I myself also do this. It’s the only thing we can really do to give ourselves a chance to avoid catching these things.
I have a defiant 4 year old.
When he gets sick, and mad, he’ll cough in your face. On Purpose. And he knows what he’s doing.
Spray him with tea tree oil.
without knowing what % total are vaccinated, we don’t know what 80% means
if 80% of people did not receive the vaccine, then it is meaningless, but I assume the number of people who get it is higher than that; my wife is the only one in our household who did not get it. Anecdotally, she had the weakest case of illness, but that too could be meaningless.

i have no philosophical problem with ignorant parents not wanting to vaccinate their children. fine: opt out. also, opt them out of public schools, grocery stores, amusement parks and movie theaters, concerts, etc…
Left field
53 kids have died of flu this season, so far. 80% were not vaccinated. you opt not to vaccinate, you are counting on everyone else vaccinating (herd immunity) to protect yourself/your child.
to be fair, the flu vaccine this year was like, 10% effective
I mean, I got the flu vaccine and in a 10 day period had 3 instances of something (only 1 confirmed flu)
oh, please mike. is this like “compression waves”? way more than 10% effective. 80% of deaths were not vaccinated….
“A number of factors aligned this flu season, including the fact that the vaccine against the main strain of the flu is particularly ineffective. A paper from Canadian scientists published last week suggests that the vaccine is only 17% effective against H3N2, the strain that’s causing 80% of flu infections. Worse, in those aged 20 to 64, it’s only 10% effective.”
https://qz.com/1198395/this-years-flu-vaccine-is-more-than-20-less-effective-than-last-years/
infinitely-dense-matrix compression waves!
If the flu vaccine wasn’t a lottery I am sure there would be more parents doing it.
Word on the street is, the flu shot this year is garbage. Peeps having trouble admitting that.
3 of 3 call bullshit…………
I agree anti-vaxers are generally dumb when it comes to things like polio, but the flu is always a crap shoot when it comes to vaccinating helping.
Polio, should be required.
A handful should be for sure, polio, smallpox, uglyface. Ect.
Not sure uglyface is a thing, but yeah, I agree.
I’m getting a GIF, aren’t I?
It is… but right now only the top 1% can afford the vaccine.
Obviously not working for POTUS….his wife, though…..
We’re at 4
I cant take the flu vaccine . It actually gives me flu like symptoms .
buck, there is a certain percent of people who have medical reasons why they should not vaccinate. i’m guessing you fall in that category. so…. it is even more important for folks like yu to have everyone else vaccinate.
and, of course, no vaccine is 100% effective, especially with something like the flu which mutates so fast. still, the more people vaccinated the safer society as a whole is.

Lets be nice it’s 4.5 to 1.5.

I think Manning at his peak was a better QB than Brady at his peak.
______________________________________________________________________________
He also had much better talent around him then Brady ever had and still couldn’t beat him.
Except for that last time
https://media.giphy.com/media/EQVXMBawe3WCs/giphy.gif
You do understand that’s whip cream ?
Please tell me you can see that .
Yeah Greg, I can see that.
He had better WR’s, but Brady always had a better OL IMO.
Tom Brady is by far a better QB then Payton Manning it’s not even close.
Brady a better head, Payton the better arm.
Had a young man (23 yrs) at our SB party. Kept reminding us folks who had money on the Pats how much the Pats cheated in the past and so on and so forth. Finally I told him he’s gotta come up with some new material, cuz he was being stupid…another faulty Eagle’s fan.
if you’re going to lay money on a team, it should be Nebraska MBB. if you’re that type you know how to do ATS research. They’re 18-6 ATS, with I believe a 15-1 streak.
For entertainment purposes only.
LOL
President Trump can’t be a racist because he’s taken photos with black celebrities, including rappers and Al Sharpton, his son Donald Trump Jr. said in a interview this week.
That’s funny. I had a photo with a friend’s cat once.
The colts should offer Manning the head coach position.
Aww, shucks…- Paisley
Haha, well there is that cash cow he would have to walk away from.
He’s far from old. We’ll see Manning with headphones and a clipboard.
Why would he want it?
He making money distributing Budweiser and selling pizza
Cause he loves football.
Can’t fathom it……..
Colts GM — “The rivalry (with Pats) is back on.”
Brady and BB — [yawn]
A “rival” not in your division
Sad stuff
It’s only a rivalry in the same manner that a bug has a rivalry with the windshield of a moving car.
everyone else
*yawn*
Missing one key ingredient.
I’m from Indiana and some of my Indiana friends say the rivalry goes back to about a decade ago when their was discussion of who was the better quarterback between Brady and Manning.
I think Manning at his peak was a better QB than Brady at his peak.
Yes, but Brady got all of praise, so colts fans would always look forward to playing the Pats and proving their QB was better.
well… and brady* had belichick* as his head coach.
Tony Dungee is worth 20m/year!!
— Tony D. (and no one else)
Also, Manning was kinda the offensive coordinator.
Yes, watching him at the line of scrimmage dissect the defense pre-snap was a thing of beauty. And he put the ball downfield a lot more than Brady cared to try.
And coached receivers.
Now I understand. Didn’t know for a minute what the hell he was talking bout.
funny/sad… it’s kind of like asserting the redskins rivalry is back on with [insert team].
The other side has to actually win for it to be a rivalry.
Okay I’m gonna go grab lunch. But between now and then here is some food for thought.
The Colts are basically as badly run as the Browns, but they lucked into Payton Manning.
And Andrew Luck
Maybe not so Lucky there.
LOL yeah true
i think they were absolutely “lucky” (or gamed the system) to end up with luck. they have just possibly ruined him. luck got absolutely no support from a crappy front office and has been basically fed him to the wolves.
Yeah agreed.
Not like Manning had a star studded cast either. A few good players but no depth and usually a weak OL
And imagine if they’d picked Ryan Leaf…
Or RG3 over luck. How would we be now if we had Luck?
Our O-line at the time was questionable… so probably not much better off. But who knows really
Who???

blocks better and is healthier, which is what I tried to point out. If Reed could block better and stay healthy, virtual tie imo

Healthy, Reed, block, Reed, same sentence???
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH!!!!
tbf, I did say “IF”
I don’t think the team really cares too much that Reed can’t block. Doc Walker basically told us that.
As receivers, Kelce and Reed have been essentially neck and neck.
So RG3 can you tell us how marrying someone, fathering a child with her and them dropping them to impregnate another women who is not you wife is all “part of God’s plan” for you?
Guessing that would be one of the “imperfect” parts.
as long as jesus forgives…. ‘sall good.

darn it! you had me right up to that “believe” part. that’s a tough one to swallow.
I give him half a point for labeling himself imperfect… but he needs to take it a step farther and discuss exactly “what” makes him imperfect.

slightly worse

hilarious and I literally laughed out loud. folks in the office were like what’s so funny?
Is that a joke? We have nothing compared to what he had in KC.
much, much better. it’s not even debateable
guess i need to distunguish between last season and the 2 seasons before that. our receivers this year were nothing like the previous 2 years….
he has had a really good rushing attack and defense while with the Chiefs too. Kelce is a lot better than Reed too, he blocks and is healthier
redskins had kick-ass receivers 2 and 3 years ago – when kirk put up those 4000 yd seasons.
he had a 4000 yard season last year, imagine if he had a rushing attack and stout defense, oh nvrmnd…hee hee hee
Kelce isn’t alot better than Reed. He’s just healthier. Reed and Kelce have had very similar production.
blocks better and is healthier, which is what I tried to point out. If Reed could block better and stay healthy, virtual tie imo
Joel Corry didn’t like giving up Fuller either. Some who’ve shrugged it off(giving away Fuller) as no big deal say Joel is the shit so I’m not sure why the discrepancy.
Don’t think anyone likes paying the iron price.
Sure, doesn’t mean you can devalue iron to make yourself feel better. It is what it is.
Oh we all will be laughing about this when Alex Smith and the Redskins hoist the Lombardi Trophy in 2020
Amen
No, he didn’t, but he didn’t freak out about it, either. He just said that he’d rather have given up another draft pick. My sense of this is that KC insisted on Fuller as the price to getting this done early, and I think it was a tough call, but fair and good for both sides.
Because otherwise, this team really would have been in a world of hurt at QB this season unless they got lucky.
He’s also not psychologically vested in this team.

Tagging him is 1 percent reward
1 million percent risk
You understand that right?
Listen to what Joel had to say about it. He acknowledged that it’s fraught with peril, but he also said that Bruce is crazy enough to try it.
That’s not unreasonable unless you have BA’s nuts in your mouth .
so I’ve track 26 mocks so far – pick count
Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma 2
Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama 4
Da’Ron Payne, DT, Alabama 6
Derwin James, S, Florida State 4
James Washington, WR, Oklahoma State 1
Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming 1
Roquan Smith, ILB, Georgia 4
Tremaine Edmunds, OLB, Virginia Tech 2
Vita Vea, DT, Washington 2
defense is way popular now after the Smith deal
Payne, James, Smith tops on D
Ridley on O
and a couple still to update post trade, which will probably make those Mayfield/Allen pick disappear
I wouldn’t be concerned with the Ridley pick if he were really the best WR in the draft, what I would be concerned with is how rel young the WR corps would be, need leadership

Elf on the Shelf busting on McDaniels:

Totally agree. Total douche move by McDaniels.
Actually cool that the Colts are going to honor all of the Coordinator and assistant coach contracts they signed. Actually, very cool.
Yea… it’s pretty shitty
Ryan Harris, a former right tackle with the Broncos under McDaniels (and Kubiak), is on the radio out here. He thinks the Colts dodged a bullet. Can’t stand McDaniels and says a lot of players feel the same way.

Stubborn; arrogant.
So he is on stage 2… anger.
You guys grossly underestimate Moe.
Not really. But sometimes one’s stubborness/arrogance can really prevent that someone from moving forward.
That could also be considered relevant to someone assuming that everyone is moving on the same path.
So the real solution… is we all need to create a faux account at WaPo and go troll Moe for a week until he gives up and leaves. Then when he shows up here, we can act like we have no idea.
Or….let Moe do Moe.
That seems easiest. Why franchise tag Moe in an attempt to trade him when we already traded a third and a CB for Hog Sty? Seems petty and vindictive…

Jets have a real shot at KC imo.
I do believe they have a shot. They’re better than some give them credit for.
With better QB play, they’d probably be 7-9 like the Skins.
I think better than that, plus the media market is yugggeee
Yes, but living in NYC, the Jets will ALWAYS be the second team in NY. They will always be second fiddle to the Gnats, just like the Mets will always be second fiddle to the Yankees.
sure, but 2nd there is still enormous, and if the Jets start winning and Giants don’t….
The Jets will only be second fiddle until they win a Super Bowl.
No, that is entirely incorrect. If you lived here, you’d understand. Just the way the city will always feel about these teams. History.
Now, if the Gnats were a consistent loser for like 20-30 years, and the Jets were contenders and winners during a long portion of that, maybe it could change. But, I still strongly doubt it.
Okay, fair enough, you live there.
Jets are the generic alternative in NYC
Grief over Cousins & the stages:
1. Denial – The first reaction is denial. In this stage, individuals believe the diagnosis is somehow mistaken, and cling to a false, preferable reality.
2. Anger – When the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue, they become frustrated, especially at proximate individuals. Certain psychological responses of a person undergoing this phase would be: “Why me? It’s not fair!”; “How can this happen to me?”; “Who is to blame?”; “Why would this happen?”.
3. Bargaining – The third stage involves the hope that the individual can avoid a cause of grief. Usually, the negotiation for an extended life is made in exchange for a reformed lifestyle. People facing less serious trauma can bargain or seek compromise. For instance: “I’d give anything to have him back.” Or: “If only he’d come back to life, I’d promise to be a better person!”
4. Depression – “I’m so sad, why bother with anything?”; “I’m going to die soon, so what’s the point?”; “I miss my loved one, why go on?”
During the fourth stage, the individual despairs at the recognition of their mortality. In this state, the individual may become silent, refuse visitors and spend much of the time mournful and sullen.
5. Acceptance – “It’s going to be okay.”; “I can’t fight it; I may as well prepare for it.”
In this last stage, individuals embrace mortality or inevitable future, or that of a loved one, or other tragic event. People dying may precede the survivors in this state, which typically comes with a calm, retrospective view for the individual, and a stable condition of emotions.
Which stage are YOU in? lol
If you’re relating this to Cousins leaving, I went from 1 straight to 5.
I’m trying to be funny but yeah
A lot of peeps were stuck on 2, not about Kirk but the loss of Fuller
I didn’t enter any stage of grief over Fuller. He’s a CB; we’ll find another one. The end.
I was/am about losing a talented young playmaker. It’s not as easy to find those as some make it seem imho.
^see what I mean lol jk Mr. Steve
KS, FTG
lol
if Kirk really want to be loved and paid, Browns make a lot of sense
he would be the face of the franchise and they have a lot of picks to build a team around him
Also, if the Browns don’t need a QB they could use their two 1st round picks on, e.g., SBarkley and [another great prospect]. They have a ton of draft picks, including (I think) 7 in the first two rounds. Now that that they have a professional FO, they really could take off.
I really don’t understand why the Browns would automatically draft Barkley. If there’s one thing that team does well – and it’s basically only one thing – it’s running the ball. They already have talented RBs who are productive. I think adding Barkley would be, for them, a minimal upgrade, and I’d go for another area of need.
I don’t disagree, but everyone seems to have them taking him with their 1st or 4th overall pick.
Because they’re the Browns?
On the other hand, I utterly don’t care where Cousins goes now that he’s not going to be a Redskin.
Funny, and true.
Me either
I think he’d take a slight haircut to be with a contender. Not substantial, but a slight one.
Personally, I hope he goes to the pit of misery: Cleveland.
KSFTSOBAL
I don’t. We’ll see.
So… McDaniels has now officially backed out of the deal. He is staying in NE.
NFL.com reporting…
“By around 7 p.m. ET, McDaniels was calling Colts general manager Chris Ballard and backing out of a deal announced just hours earlier to become Indianapolis’ new head coach, opting to stay with the Patriots as offensive coordinator instead of taking his long-awaited second shot to run his own show.”
I don’t see KC choosing to go to the Browns if they offer him the most money. Jets, perhaps a little more desirable. Denver, Minny, Jags, even Cards all decent options.
who runs an offense most similar to Jay’s, Sean’s, or Kyle’s?
Sean, although he added more RPO stuff for Goff.
No, I mean what OTHER QB-hungry team runs an offense most similar to (at least one of) those three?
Jets, Minny, Browns = Jay/Sean
For arguments sake, then what happens if the Jets trade for Foles?
and the Vikes resign Teddy or Case
leaves Browns as closest match offense wise
and therefore… Kirk might want to try to get something done before Foles gets traded or the Vikings re-sign one of their QBs.
Not saying it is going to happen. I’m just saying tag n trade isn’t lunacy.
Kirk will take the best offer he is given.
I don’t think the team matters a single bit. I think the single, one, and only consideration is the contract.
Kirk wants to be the highest paid QB and wants to be the center of attention he will take the best offer.
pre dinner convo
So your friend, she is the one married to that guy who likes to talk about weather and science. (long groan, check charge level on phone)
LOL
Could always have a delightful debate over whether ballet is a sport.
This whole Redskins are considering tagging Kirk is just more rumor mill BS that has been given way more attention than it’s worthy of. Shows me the sports media has not enough real stories to fill their days. I’m sure they probably thought of doing it you would be stupid not to but the chances of it actually happening are slim to none. Just like ESPN reporting that Tom and Bill could both retire after the SB.
Agree! Plus the damage it would do to our reputation across the league. Who would want to sign with a team that treats its players that way???
The only way it would or could happen is if a team really wanted Cousins and that is the only way they could get him but Cousins would have to agree to that.
Players come here for Harvest Fest
— BA
there’d be no damage. no conspiracy. no malice. no hostage. none of that. that’s not how it would work at all. it would be mechanically different, but done for the same reasons the Smith trade was done so early.
It’d be bad for the team’s reputation around the league. And this team already had a questionable reputation.

One of the most interesting things that Joel said was that Cousins might have a legit grievance should the Redskins apply the franchise tag to him. Imagine that mess.
par for the course…..
Par for the fake news made up course.
Lmao!
what kind of “grievance” could he have? are you speaking legally or just “real world”?
Most these guys are speaking out of their ass.
Legal. Under the CBA, you’re only supposed to apply the FTag if you have intentions to try to sign the player long terms. Clearly, if the Skins tag Cousins, the intent would not be to sign him long-term, but to control that little biotch.
Alex Smith is clearly our backup QB.

But again, I don’t think that’s how any of this would work. If they wanted Smith before FA, they’d want Kirk gone before FA. They’re not going to tag him unless Kirk and his Agent have something they and the Other team want to get done. I mean, short of blind rage incompetence.
josh,
“Clearly, if the Skins tag Cousins, the intent would not be to sign him long-term, but to control that little biotch.”
————–
i don’t know how you could legally prove that. maybe we signed smith as an emergency back-up in the unlikely event that kirk spurns us. very difficult, it seems to me, to divine intent.
Joel was talking about the NFLPA filing a grievance pursuant to the applicable provisions of the CBA.
This, of course, does increase the likelihood that the Skins would try the tag and trade….
all this talk from both side is just posturing unless some team reaches out to the Skins which has not happened yet
if anything happens it will occur during the combine when people can sit down and talk face to face
Redskins want compensation, Kirk wants to maximize his options
they handled it all wrong if they wanted compensation. That’s the FO’s fault, clearly.

basically: put your damn phone away and interact with the people around you. hard to believe this is a genius idea, but it is. people, kids especially, don’t know how to interact in person.
Phones have no place in middle and elementary schools. Need to be checked at the school and not returned until the end of the day.
except when there’s another school shooting, then we all want our children to be able to call for help
I think the benefits of being phone-free outlweigh the highly unlikely situation there is a school shooting at your child’s school.
Agree to disagree. Boy scouts are always prepared, however unlikely the situation. Plus, the phones are on airplane mode until break times or lunch time.
yep always prepared, it’s why I always had knives, rope, zip ties, duct tape, super glue with me growing up
httr,
how about a rule where you can keep your damn phone, but ONLY use it the event of a school shooting…?
Oh yeah, that’ll work…….
Exactly, BC.
Mind bottling
such hostility? Damn phone? geez. lighten up.
httr,
i am so sick of seeing a table of 4 people out to dinner and they’re all in ignoring each other with their noses buried in their cell phones.
Why do strangers habits annoy YOU? why is it YOUR issue? Hmm
how about: i am so sick of going out to dinner with friends and everyone at the table texting or tweeting googling whatever, and ignoring everyone else at the table at which i am sitting. i think it’s rude.
That, I agree with and I’d find new friends.
Common sense rules, keep phones off and don’t use then during classroom time. It works here. If your situation is different, I don’t know why.
My daughter isn’t allowed to bring a phone to school, school rule, and my rule.

What tag and trade comes down to, IMO, is whether it would be worth it to a team to meet KC’s asking price AND throw in compensation worth more than a late 2019 3rd round draft pick. In order to make it work Washington would have to give KC permission to talk to prospective teams. Under those circumstances, why wouldn’t prospective teams tell Kirk, “we’ll meet your demands, but we don’t want to give up a draft pick. Our offer is good after the tag deadline expires?”
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Simple because a team like Denver for instance doesn’t have the cap space to get into a bidding war with the Jets and Cleveland, so if they could lock Kirk up before FA’s that helps them even if they have to give up a pick.
You think Kirk is going to give them a discount? LOL
No Kirk has proven he is all about the money, I’m just saying that is the theory behind the thought process.
He hasn’t proven that at all.
Sure he has.
How? The team applied the tag. We will see soon enough. I’d think, given his age and conservative nature, he has plenty of money already and would like to win. We all will see soon enough. Don’t mistake what I’m saying as he will work for peanuts, but I think going where he feels is a good fit might trump extra dollars
Kirk is going to go to a winner where he sees a fit and who also gives him the type of contract he is looking for.
I think Cleveland is looking more for a guy like Sam Bradford to keep the spot warm form whomever they pick #1 overall
Cousins will go to the team that pays him the most money.
Bingo
he is not going to a team where he doesn’t think he can succeed. because the money and influence you have isn’t JUST based on your contract money from an NFL team. Cleveland, as example (I don’t think they’ll be in on the bidding for the reasons above) has not proven to have any vet leadership, and questionable new management. I doubt he goes there unless it’s almost his only choice for whatever reason… to start.
Money, period.
steve,
do you think so? i think now he is kinda set for money. i think he will go to a team with a chance to win lots of games, playoffs games, etc….
There’s no doubt. Joel talked about this is the interview. Whatever Cousins has said about this in public is garbage. It’s about the money. It’s always about the money. Unless you’re married to an internationally famous supermodel who out-earns you, it’s about the money.
steve,
i just have trouble imagining the difference btwn having 100 millioon in the bank and 110 million.
players talk, and talk, about how important winning is…. and, personally, if i were set for life, and my children and grand children were set for life, i would go to a team with a chance to win.
so, if cleveland (thank god we’re not cleveland) offered him the most money, do you think he would go there?
If Cleveland comes out with the best contact, absolutely. I think it’s always about the money. He’ll rationalize it to himself somehow:
– talented team
– new front office
– “this is a team on the rise and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
I agree Walter
Kirk can give Denver the same deal on a sign and tag or in FA. Why would he do it in a signa and tag (because he loves the Skins organization so much)?
I’d bet the house that this doesn’t happen.
I agree

McDaniels better get that HC job in NE ehwn BB retires, because if I’m another team and saw you reneg on a a deal you made, I would have very strong reservations about you (particularly your character).
Either that or the Colts are such a clusterfudge that every other team in the NFL completely understands why you re-neged.
Bill to Josh “Just remember, that as long as I’m still coaching here in New England, you’ve got no chance at getting to the Superbowl while coaching in the AFC”
hopefully they also don’t remember his time as Denver’s HC
There’s that, too.
It’s not a deal until you sign the contract which he never did.
Only because he technically couldn’t. They had agreed on terms, and this is the understanding in the NFL – that its a handshake deal until we can actually sign. You know that Flounder.
Paul Richardson
Allen Robinson
Dumb question, but does re-signing your own free agents count against you in terms of the compensatory draft pick equation?
I was thinking about that, and I don’t think it does, because what it does is cancel out you losing them. Does that make sense, so if you LOST a bunch of important free agents, you’d get compensatory picks, but if you re-sign them you cancel that out, meaning they don’t have the net effect. It’s the net that matters, right?
Logical.
and even if they sign a FA WR1-2 and some minor medium FA work, they prob would get some compensation in 2019 for Kirk. But even the Skins prob don’t know what they’re going to do in FA right now nor what players would agree to a deal with them. Trading Cousins may not be worth the juice, but the hope is, again, that they know what they’re getting into before the tag. But Cousin’s preferred team(s) would have to be interested in doing this now rather than the tampering period.
Yes.
No. I don’t think it does.
It doesn’t.
To even suggest that the team is going to tag KC is beyond the pale
All I am saying is that they could and it doesn’t have to be a disaster if they do. I mean, it COULD be, but I think that’s unlikely.
To suggest that a professional NFL agent suggesting that Bruce may do something stupid like that, with historical proof of him doing so is “beyond pale”, is in fact, in itself, beyond pale…. unless of course, you are someone with relative equal experience in the field, which as we all know, is not the case.

Off topic: Don’t know if I’ve ever shared this. But from time to time I like to go find old black and white photos of the Skins, and do some colorizing, mostly to just work on my photoshop skills. Here’s one I worked on way back of the Redskins vs the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1940’s.

Most likely HC for the colts now as I see it:
A. Payton Manning
B. Jim Zorn (he’s been in this situation before)
C. Jim Irsay’s dealer
D. Jeffery Michael Fisher
E. Go with out a coach for a year, let fans vote on play calls all year via a web app.

Under those circumstances, why wouldn’t prospective teams tell Kirk, “we’ll meet your demands, but we don’t want to give up a draft pick. Our offer is good after the tag deadline expires?”
Exactly, the only teams that would do it are the guys who realize they are coming in 3rd place in the kirk cousins sweepstakes and want to end around the bidding war.
Yes, and in that case Kirk isn’t going to agree to the deal anyway.
Every single team wants to have their QB situation figured out before the rest of FA starts.
And let’s say the Redskins sign two significant FAs, and they get almost nothing in compensatory value in 2019? Then pretty much anything they can get for Cousins is the sure thing now. It would be different if they were virtually g’d a 3rd round pick.
But all of that is unknown. I think it is worth a shot if you’re the Skins. Give Kirk permission to shop, if it works out, then fine, if not, well it doesn’t. There’s little risk for the Redskins, because again, at least in my mind, you don’t actually tag him until the deal is done. They’re not going to tag him blindly and hold on to him INTO the Free Agency period. That’d be bad business, and it would be antithetical to their Smith trade.
This whole thing sounds like a scheme conjured up by Plankton at the Chum Bucket.
It’s a idea that hits the perfect sweet spot that says “crazy and stupid, the Redskins way”
Nice podcast, guys.
Eh. I made a big screw up in this one. Possibly my biggest in the last year of shows.
Last thing I remember hearing is that we are thinking about tagging Kirk again, risking missing FA because that would tie up all our cap space. This isn’t gonna happen is it?
No
Stop listening to rumors
I mean, that was 8 months ago dude…. we are already mid 2018 season and sitting at 7-1.
That flu clearly had you out of a while, and still delirious.
that’s not how it would work, they would not go into FA with him under the tag for more than a few minutes
they would give permission to shop himself
Kirk finds a deal
The other teams offers a big pizza party as trade compensation
Redskins tag Kirk first day they can.
Kirk got his FA early, the Other team got their QB locked up before FA, there’s a big pizza and beer party in Ashburn. everyone wins
Skins have about 55 M in cap room.
-20 for Smith (rough guess, may be 15)
-35 for Kirk.
You are basically giving up on resigning anyone we’ve got till Free Agency.
Smith doesn’t count yet. You send in the paperwork for Kirk deal just before the Smith paperwork? Maybe?
The kind of thing they get back is probably minimal, like I said, would it be Denver, maybe a 2nd round pick swap and a conditional 2019 pick. Maybe they would find it to be not worth it. But they SHOULD know all that before they tag him.
Again, that would require Kirk to play nice, and a team that’s ready to go along with the skins and be ready to have a new deal for him.
There’s no play nice or conspiracy here. It benefits the other team (or they wouldn’t do it), and for Kirk, it benefits him by being out in front of the other QB deals. It’s a win all around. The Redskins are not going to get big return on it, so it’s not going to “hurt” Kirk’s new team significantly.
“for Kirk, it benefits him by being out in front of the other QB deals.”
How? All I see is you’re forcing him to negotiate with the skins watching over any talks. While at the same time limiting the teams he can negotiate with to those who have the cap space up front to take him on the tag.
Pragmatically, teams will have to free up space during the allowed tampering period to sign him anyway. So that consideration may not be as big of a deal as you’d think. He’d only be under the FT for a few minutes on that other team.
It really is not any different than why the Skins made the trade for Smith. Why didn’t they just bide their time and wait for Smith to be cut? Because other teams want QBs and they want them before Free Agency for a number of obvious reasons.
The difference is that Smith didn’t have the power to veto the trade. At minimum he would have had to play for the Skins for a year on a cheap contract.
This would only happen if another Team wants it to. Blindly tagging him prob doesn’t last until FA. Kirk isn’t going to sign it and then the Skins would have to revoke it. He’s not going to sign it because he surely knows he is going to get more than $34 mil cash next year, and it would give the Skins the ability to trade him to any team. Only works for everyone if it sort is all MOU’d out beforehand by all three sides.
Kirk is the #1 FA QB on the market who is actually going to change teams.
Why would he need to be out in front of the other QB deals? His deal will likely set those other numbers.
Not necessarily. The Eagles could trade Foles before Free Agency. The Vikings could do the same thing with 1 of their QBs.
Correct alex. Once a tag is offered, it counts against the cap whether it’s signed or not. And of course, you can’t trade someone until its signed.
What exactly would be Kirk’s incentive to go along with this plan?
None.
I doubt it the media needs stuff to talk about so they take something like this and blow it way out of proportion.

Morning folks. So Mr Curry thinks Minny at top for a Kirk landing spot ? I dont see Kirk in Minny. Their QB basket is full. No way Kirk does what Keenum did either…Maybe Jets or AZ be my guesses where he lands.

I got some w/o the candy corns already !…thanks but no thanks. Hit yesterdays thread and saw your comment about Ralph. He was my main man growing up as well as Theismann. One tall stick ole Ralph!
Yeah
Minnesota is interesting because they have no QBs under contract, and Kirk going there is a net zero to the NFL QB FA pool, as 3 FAs would be out there. And if Cleveland goes with Mayfield, that means the Giants either take Rosen or ransom the pick. And if they take Rosen then the game is on for Darnold. It might mean that Bridgewater and Bradford get signed as backups. Maybe Jets-Cleveland make a move for Darnold.
Kirk will land before the draft. I dont think draft affects where be goes. Browns are out of any discussion w McC there unless some type of 3 team trade (KC agreed tag and trade ..albeit very slim chances but I could see a deal. Denver enters pic if this type scenario )
I dont see Minny getting rid of both Keenum and Bridgewater…
the problem with Bridgewater is, as an NFL GM, would you sign him as a starter this off-season? Maybe Arizona might if they lose out on the other FAs and don’t think they can trade up for one of the top 4 QBs.
Possibly. I see AZ going after KC. Bridgewater if let go brings down …again…KCs asking price
Furthermore…this convo shows how premature Skins trade is…panic moded. SMH. If Teddy let go woulda been a good bridge or more in DC…prob cheaper foo.
The Redskins have their QB. Only one other QB-needy team is in that boat, and it’s Cleveland.

I tell you what, this real estate market down here is crazy. Things are selling in a couple days after being listed.
That long?
The inventory in Dallas has been short for years. Blind offers the minute a listing hits is the norm.
That’s a great problem for real estate agents to have!
even with interest rates going up?
a 1% rise in interest rates makes a house 20% (interest wise, which is the majority of the cost early on) more expensive than it was at the low
yes even with rates creeping up in fact the masses tend to hurry up and buy and make it quicker decision Because they realize the homes they’re looking at may not be available. My wife is in real estate not me, but she tells me this everyday clients see five to 10 homes they want to look at and by the time they get here to go look at them it might be three or four left, and they better make a decision fast because someone else will swoop in and buy it. It’s a great problem for her on the one hand because she’s making lots of sales. but clients coming from all over the place moving here some of their markets aren’t a strong back where they’re from and they don’t understand why the house won’t be available for them. So she has to deal with some of that. in summary, if you see a home you like here you better buy it now because chances are it won’t last a couple weeks while you wait and try to decide
