Su’a Cravens Reinstated

February 14, 2018

The NFL has reinstated Redskins safety Su’a Cravens from the Reserve/Left Squad list, according to Craig Hoffman, beat writer from 106.7 The Fan, and others:

The result of the NFL’s reinstatement is that Cravens will be placed back on the Redskins active roster.  It was reported earlier this week that he had submitted an application for reinstatement.  It is unclear whether this reinstatement will take place immediately or upon the start of the new league year on March 14.

Cravens unexpectedly left the Redskins this past August after training camp, the day after final cuts took place, originally reportedly telling the team that he intended to retire from football, citing personal reasons.  Redskins management reportedly talked Cravens out of immediate retirement and placed him on their exempt list to give him time to consider his options.  Two weeks later, the team then moved him to the Reserve/Left Squad list, which kept Cravens off the Redskins’ active roster for the entire year.

He was reportedly also suffering from post-concussion symptoms at the time.  His agent, Fadde Mikhail, released a statement in December stating the Cravens had been medically cleared for a return to football by his doctor on December 12, 2017.

Cravens has maintained an active presence on social media during his absence. He was infamously seen attending a USC football game in Los Angeles one day before the Redskins’ game against the Rams in the same stadium, but did not attend the Redskins game.

It remains unclear how the Redskins intend to handle Cravens’ return.  The team could allow him to participate in offseason activities and compete for a 2018 roster spot, or they could attempt to trade him, or as last resort, release him from his contract.

We will continue to update this story as it develops.
