The Redskins have announced the signing of cornerback Orlando Scandrick.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, who first reported the deal, also stated that the contract is a two-year deal that could total up to $10M.

Scandrick was drafted in the 5th round in 2008 out of Boise St by the Dallas Cowboys. He spent has spent whole career with Dallas as the nickel corner and later their starting #2 cornerback. He was suspended in 2014 for four games under the performance enhancing drug policy after testing positive for MDMA use, which the NFL re-designated as a violation of the drugs of abuse policy. He has been injury plagued in the last few years of his career, and has only played in 23 games in the last 3 years. He missed all of 2015 with a torn ACL and MCL.

The Redskins had been looking to add some veteran depth to the secondary after they lost starting corner Bashaud Breeland to free agency and Kendall Fuller to Kansas City in the Alex Smith trade. Scandrick will be a veteran presence in what is a mostly young group of cornerbacks.

We’ll have more details about this signing here as they arise.
