The Redskins announced today that the team has exercised its fifth-year option on 2-time Pro-Bowl Brandon Scherff for the 2019 season.  Scherff, drafted in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft, has played 46 games for Washington, and is the team’s first interior lineman to earn consecutive Pro Bowl selections since Hall of Famer Russ Grimm between 1983 – 1986.  Scherff is also the first Redskins offensive lineman to earn multiple Pro Bowl selections in the first three seasons of a career since tackle Chris Samuels.  Playing under the option in 2019, Scherff will earn a fully guaranteed $12.525M, and gives the parties another year to attempt to negotiate a long-term deal before he is eligible for free agency.

The Redskins also announced that they have re-signed tackle Tony Bergstrom.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.  Bergstrom (6’5″, 315), who is 31 years old and was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 3rd round of the 2012 draft, came to the Redskins in October, 2017, and played in 9 games, including 3 starts.
