Roster Moves: Redskins Re-sign Lauvao

The Washington Redskins announced this afternoon that they have re-signed guard Shawn Lauvao. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Lauvao, 6’3″, 308, was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He signed with the Redskins in 2014, playing in 41 of 64 games, but missed significant time in both 2015 and 2017 due to injuries, being placed on injured reserve in both years.
Word of the signing leaked late last week when Lauvao’s agents tweeted that he had re-signed with the team, but the deal was not made official by the team until today.
The Redskins were originally expected to pursue a guard in either free agency or the recent NFL Draft, but after help did not materialize, Lauvao, who is a quality run blocker when healthy and is experienced in the Redskins scheme, appeared to become the best option at the position for 2018.
There has been no information yet as to contract length or financial terms.

I remember deer hunting years ago, I was sitting back up in a clump of three little pines with a red oak at my back, in the center of a T junction of two trails. I could see probably 100 yards straight ahead, 40 or 50 to either side. Off to my front right was a super thick 1/4 acre of small white pines. Been sitting there for prolly 45 minutes, this juvenile bobcat comes slinking out of the thick shit, headed right towards me. I’m camo’d up with a mask and all, only my eyes exposed. When it stops and starts looking at what I must be, I cut my head abruptly towards it (like the way an owl moves it’s head) and make my eyes big. I get to watch this little fucker just about jump out of it’s hide, spin out, and crash back the way it came. Ah well…had to be there.

The gist of the comp picks thing, as I understand it, is this:
– 32 total picks awarded
– max of 4 to any one team
– comp picks are only rounds 3 through 7, not rounds 1 and 2
– the pick awards come by comparing qualified free agents lost to qualified free agents gained
– a player is qualified if he’s an unrestricted free agent who wasn’t cut by his former team, but I believe there are also more detailed conditions about that
– OTC says that, in essence, they believe that the NFL rank orders all players on active rosters at the end of the season and then compares to qualified free agents to that list. The primary factor in is believed to be average annual value of the contract, but the adjustments are by playing time and certain honors. Then, a round is assigned to each qualified free agent based on a percentile ranking of where they come out on a list
– If you lose a player who qualifies as a 3rd round pick, but sign a player who qualifies as a 3rd round pick, then they cancel each other out and no comp pick is awarded
– For example, if a team loses players who qualify as a 3rd round, 5th round, 6th round, and 7th round comp picks, but then sign players who qualifies as a 4th round and 6th round pick, then the team gets a 3rd round pick, but the signing of the 4th rounder cancels out the 5th rounder, and the 6th rounder cancels out the 6th rounder, and the net result is that the team is awarded a 3rd round comp pick and a 7th round comp pick.
Those are the basics as I understand them, based on reading a bunch of articles about it
