The selection of Alexander means that the Redskins will lose their 6th round pick in the 2019 draft; however, the team is expected to be awarded as many as four compensatory picks next year.
Alexander, who is 6’3″, 197 pounds, played three years at Virginia Tech, amassing 125 tackles (including 91 solo tackles), 17 passes defended, and 7 interceptions in a total of 32 games from 2015 – 2017. He was reportedly timed at 4.64 in the 40 yard dash.
Alexander was eligible for the Supplemental Draft as a result of being academically ineligible to play for Virginia Tech for the 2018 season. He was also arrested for possession of marijuana in 2016; however, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, his drug test leading up to the Supplemental Draft was clean.
In joining the Redskins, Alexander will be reunited with his former Virginia Tech position coach, Torrian Gray, which should go a long way towards resolving any character concerns the Redskins may have had.
We’ll have more details here at they arise.
