[EDITOR’S NOTE: The Redskins officially announced this trade on Tuesday afternoon. They did not announce a corresponding roster move, which will be needed in order to make room on the active roster.]

In an unexpected move, the Washington Redskins traded for Ha’Sean Treshon “Ha Ha” Clinton-Dix from the Green Bay Packers. @hah_cd6 on twitter. The trade appears to be for a 4th round pick.  The trade was first reported by Ian Rapaport and Adam Schefter.

Clinton-Dix, 25, was a 1st round pick out of Alabama in 2014 and a Pro-Bowler in 2016. This season he’s recorded 3 interceptions and a sack as a starter for the Packers. Dix is on a 6 million dollar contract for 2018 and is slated to become a free agent next season.

With the addition of Dix to the Redskins’ defensive backfield strengthen the team’s ties to the powerhouse Alabama Crimson Tide football program. This will be their 5th player from the school on the defensive side of the ball, plus Cam Sims on offense.  This move strengthens an already stout Redskins secondary that already features team leader DJ Swearinger at strong safety, perhaps giving the Skins one of the league’s best safety tandems.
