The Redskins announced the signing of corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie today. Rodgers-Cromartie, 32, is an 11 year vet who spent 2018 with the Oakland Raiders, but announced his retirement on October 30, 2018 before stating his desire his return last week. Contractual details are unknown at this time.
Rodgers-Cromartie was a 2008 first round draft pick by the Cardinals out of Tennessee St. He has played in 160 games in his career, starting 121, for the Cardinals, Eagles, Broncos, Giants, and the aforementioned Raiders. He has 451 tackles, including 394 solo, with 30 interceptions. He played 7 games for the Raiders last year before his abbreviated retirement. Rodgers-Cromartie, a 2-time Pro Bowl selection, is best known for his blazing speed, having run the 40 yard dash in just 4.29 seconds at the 2008 NFL Combine.
Rodgers-Cromartie joins his former Giants teammate Landon Collins in the Redskins’ revamped defensive backfield. Whether he joins a crowded cornerback group that includes starters Josh Norman and Quinton Dunbar, or is moved to fill an unstable free safety position is anyone’s guess right now.
