The Redskins announced tonight that punter Tress Way and guard Brandon Scherff have been selected to participate in the 2020 Pro Bowl, to be played on January 26, 2020, in Orlando, Florida.
Way was selected as the NFC’s starting punter. It is his first selection of his career. He is the first Redskins Pro Bowl punter since Matt Turk in 1998. Way, Turk (selected in 1996, 1997, and 1998) and Reggie Roby (selected in 1994) are the only punters in Redskins history to be selected.
Way, 29, who was a 2013 undrafted free agent out of the University of Oklahoma, has appeared in 94 games for the Redskins from 2014-19 and has registered 428 total punts for 19,923 yards (46.5 avg.) and has pinned 158 punts inside the 20-yard line. Way also holds a career net average of 40.5. He is the franchise leader in average, net average, and punts inside the 20-yard line (since 1976) and is second in franchise history in total punts and total punt yardage.
This season, Way has recorded 70 punts for 3,456 yards (49.4 avg. and 43.6 net avg.) and has pinned 26 punts inside the 20-yard line. He recorded a 79 yard punt in week 13 against the Carolina Panthers, which was the second-longest punt in franchise history. Way is second in the NFL and first in the NFC in total net yardage and leads the league in total average so far this season. His 26 punts inside the 20-yard line currently ranks eighth in the league and his 79-yard punt is the longest of the season thus far.
The is the third selection for Scherff, who was the Redskins’ first round pick out of the University of Iowa in 2015. He joins Trent Williams, Chris Samuels, Len Hauss, Joe Jacoby, Russ Grimm, Paul Lipscomb, Dick Stanfel and Jim Schrader as the only Redskins offensive linemen to be selected to the Pro Bowl three-plus times.
Safety Landon Collins was selected as a first alternate, and defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis was selected as a fourth alternate.
