Game Summary
First Quarter
It looked like the same old Washington Football team. The Eagles were put in third and 22, so what do they do? Throw a 55 yard completion to Jalen Reagor. The WFT offense started off with 2 three and outs, plus a four and out. Haskins did not look as good as he did at the end of last season. The Eagles started out with two scores, including a touchdown and a field goal. Washington also committed key penalties that converted 3 and long to 3 and short. A late hit out of bounds added 15 yards to the Eagles drive.
The WFT started the game with a three and out of their first drive. The Eagles responded with a an excellently scripted drive that resulted in a 5-yard touchdown pass to Zach Ertz. The WFT then went 4 and out with a 16-yard pass to Terry McLaurin. With the Eagles in third and 22 they threw the 55-yard completion to Reagor. This drive resulted in a field goal, even after three sacks by Ryan Kerrigan, Matt Ioannadis and Chase Young.
Score: Eagles 10, WFT 0
Second Quarter
The WFT offense came to life with a long scramble by Haskins for 19 yards, a run by Gibson for 7 yards and a pass to Sims for 14 yards. The drive then stalled and Dustin Hopkins missed a 48-yard field goal attempt. Eagles responded with a six-play touchdown drive. The key play was a 34-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Goedert, where Troy Apke blew the over the top coverage. The WFT offense went four and out, but the defense responded and held the Eagles to a three and out. The offense then went three and out again, but Fabian Moreau intercepted Carson Wentz on the next possession. The WFT offense took advantage, driving 45 yards and scoring on a Haskins to Logan Thomas 6-yard touchdown throw. The WFT defense held the Eagles to a 3 and out to end the half.
Score: Eagles 17, WFT 7
Third Quarter
Both teams opened the second half with three and outs. Jimmy Moreland then intercepted Wentz and returned it 32 yards to the Eagles 19-yard line. WFT scored on a 1 yard touchdown run by Peyton Barber after a 17-yard completion to Steven Sims Jr. The Eagles responded with a 9 play, 40-yard drive that resulted in a missed 53-yard file goal attempt. The long field game attempt was a result of a 13-yard sack on third down by Jonathan Allen. A sack on a third down!! The WFT offense then had an abysmal 3 and out series with negative 10 yards. The Eagles responded by driving 34 yards on 8 plays but on a fourth and four from the WFT 45, Jon Bostic delivered a sack on a blitz for a 9-yard loss.
