Updates

Adam Peters started Washington’s roster overhaul in a big fashion during the start of free agency. The biggest telling move about what will happen in the draft was trading Sam Howell to the Seahawks. The move ends up with Washington having six picks in the first 100 draft picks. You’re not going to want to miss Thursday or Friday night of the draft as the Commanders will be very busy both days.

Draft Data

The mock draft count is 268 this week, up 22 from last week. The Commanders will have the 2nd overall pick in the first round.

The freshness distribution of the mock draft data is that 54% of the mocks tracked has updated in the last three weeks.

The position picked by descending frequency is:

The top gaining position this week was quarterback up almost 0.9%.

The players mock picked to the Commanders at the 2nd pick are in descending frequency:

Olumuyiwa Fashanu OT Penn State 2 0.75%
J.J. McCarthy QB Michigan 1 0.38%
Dallas Turner Edge Alabama 1 0.38%
Grand Total 266 100.00%

Caleb Williams and Drake Maye continue to slide in selection as Jayden Daniels rose over 5% this week.

Thoughts

Peters has done a great job of addressing many the glaring holes off the Washington roster, specifically offensive line, edge, and special teams. The biggest remaining positions that need to be addressed are left tackle and quarterback. There is a chance that a left tackle becomes available nearer the draft when teams release veterans around the June 1 date for spreading out the cap hit.

By trading Sam Howell, I think the Commanders are focusing on drafting a quarterback at the second pick. It would take a tremendous offer to move them out of that slot. I think the connection between Kliff Kingsbury and Jayden Daniels will lead to him being Washington’s selection.
