Thoughts

Noah Brown drew another defensive pass interference penalty which set up Washington’s first score. In the NFL, a long pass interference penalty is as good as a long completion since it is a spot foul.

The most impactful penalty in the game was an offensive pass interference call on Darius Slayton for picking Noah Igbinoghene on a rub route which negated a touchdown pass to Wan’Dale Robinson. The Giants had to settle for a field goal instead, a four-point swing in the game, keeping it a two-score game instead of a one-score game.

The addition of Marshon Lattimore should have an impact on penalties also. In 2023, he was flagged for four coverage penalties, three defensive pass interference and one defensive holding (declined). The Commanders’ core cornerback group (Noah Igbinoghene, Benjamin St-Juste, Mike Sainristil and Emmanuel Forbes) have committed eight pass interference and one defensive holding penalties in 9 games in 2024.
