Hold On – Divisional Round Bonus Edition
January 22, 2025

Two weeks, two playoff wins. That has not happened since 1991. I was 33 years old at the time and many of the fans today were either very young or not even born. It is amazing what the team has accomplished in just one short year. Next year may not be as good as this year, so hold on and enjoy the ride [pun intended].

Key Plays
In the second quarter, Kerby Joseph was called for defensive pass interference in the end zone against Terry McLaurin. This turned a potential fourth down situation into a first and goal from the one yard line. Brian Robinson scored two plays later which put Washington ahead 10-7.
Also in the second quarter, Quan Martin returned a Jared Goff interception for a touchdown. On that play, Frankie Luvu blasted Goff blocking one the return. The former official analyst on the show felt that the hit should have been called for a penalty and the touchdown disallowed.
Had to watch four hours of Mahomes getting a flag any time anyone came within 5 feet of him but this is just fine apparently pic.twitter.com/OY97HwSm8h

Later on, in the second quarter Dyami Brown made a great catch with the defender literally draped over him. Zach Ertz scored a touchdown three plays later. The Brown play looked like a no-call defensive pass interference call but fortunately had no impact on the game.

In the third quarter, Dante Fowler was called for a facemask penalty on a 3 yard loss on a third and two at the Lions 28 yard line. The problem was Fowler tackled David Montgomery by his shoulder pads, not his facemask. This gave the Lions a first down on a drive where the Lions ended up scoring a touchdown.
Absolutely HORRIBLE, DISGUSTING call by the refs on 3rd and 2 calling a facemask on Fowler when he got the pad.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Commanders were facing a fourth and two from the Lions 5 yard line. The Lions’ defense was called for too many on the field, which gave Washington a free first down at the Detroit 2 yard line. Brian Robinson scored two plays later.

Not such good news: remember the crew that messed up the clock at the end of the Saints game? Well, they’re back….

Before this season, the last time they worked a Washington game was 2020 in Cleveland.
