Welcome to the 2025 edition of Road to the Draft.
What a difference a year makes, right? Normally we start speculating about how the team is going to be better next year and what roster holes we can fill with our draft picks starting after the last game in week 18.
This year the team is coming off a 12-5 regular season, two playoff victories, an appearance in the NFC Championship game and has continuity at four key spots: Managing Owner, Josh Harris; General Manager, Adam Peters; Head Coach, Dan Quinn; and Quarterback Jayden Daniels.
There has been a change in fortunes so vast in magnitude that fans have not seen the likes of it for 33 years.
The Hog Sty is your one-stop place get information about upcoming roster changes through free agency and the draft with reviews and analysis from now until training camp.

Keep or Shown the Door
Which of the Washington’s free agents should be kept or shown the door. The Commanders have a number of players who could be brought back based on their level of play, however some of them may get priced out of what Adam Peters wants to pay.
Shown the door – Michael Davis, Benjamin St-Juste, Noah Igbinoghene, Darrick Forrest, Clelin Ferrell, Jeff Driskel
The defense needs a serious infusion of better talent and replacing these five players goes a long way towards that goal. Driskel might be brought back if Mariota signs elsewhere.
Keep but they may get a better offer – Bobby Wagner, Dante Fowler Jr., Jeremy Chinn, Marcus Mariota, Zack Ertz, Noah Brown, John Bates, Tress Way
These players all contributed significantly on the field in the 2024 season however some may get better offers from other teams or possibly desire to play closer to family.
Keep but GM’s choice – one or more players are needed to fill out competition for the position group.
WR – K.J. Osborn, Olamide Zaccheaus, Jamison Crowder, Dyami Brown
OL – Cornelius Lucas, Michael Deiter, Trenton Scott
DL – Sheldon Day, Jalyn Holmes
RB – Jeremy McNichols, Chris Rodriguez Jr.
ST – Nick Bellore, Mykal Walker, Zane Gonzalez, Austin Seibert
Draft
The purpose of this weekly column focuses on the draft and the players mocked to Washington in various mock drafts published on the Internet. It will be published weekly in the run up to the draft on April 24 in Green Bay.

Needs
The overall talent level of the team needs to be increased to be able to compete with the more elite teams that a franchise faces when they have success. The most key positions that need immediate help are:
- Defensive line – stopping the run and pass rushing
- Offensive line – right tackle and a backup center
- Wide receiver – still need a consistent, true #2 receiver to pair with Terry McLaurin
- Cornerback – Probably another outside corner so Mike Sainristil can move back to slot corner.
Overall, they do need depth and/or role players at running back, safety and linebacker.
