Free Agency 2025 – GM Noone Style

Washington has around $66 million in available salary cap for the 2025 season but team can increase that by around $24 million by releasing a few players. The team probably won’t spend more than $70 million on free agents, leaving money from draft picks and in-season roster moves.
Washington has many needs, including defensive line, cornerback, safety, offensive line and wide receiver. Here is how GM Noone would spend the money:
Player | Position | Cap Hit |
Josh Sweat | Edge | $20 million |
B.J. Hill | Defensive Tackle | $9.0 million |
Bobby Wagner | Linebacker | $8.0 million |
Jeremy Chinn | Safety | $6.0 million |
Zach Ertz | Tight End | $5.5 million |
Kristian Fulton | Cornerback | $3.4 million |
Dalton Risner | Guard | $3.4 million |
Jourdan Lewis | Cornerback | $2.4 million |
Noah Brown | Wide Receiver | $2.0 million |
Olamide Zaccheaus | Wide Receiver | $2.0 million |
Marcus Maye | Safety | $1.5 million |
Trent Brown | Right Tackle | $1.2 million |
Reasoning
There are four Washington free agents who performed well and should be brought back: Jeremy Chinn, Zach Ertz, Noah Brown, and Olamide Zaccheaus. Ertz is older but worth a one- or two-year incentive laden deal. Chinn has his issues with angles and tackling sometimes, but is a good scheme fit for a reasonable price. Brown and Zaccheaus are solid role players who can contribute, are complimentary to Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel, and have a good price point for the cap.
Washington needs to improve its pass rush, so let’s get a premier talent in free agency and preserve draft capital (sorry Myles Garrett and Trey Hendrickson), so Josh Sweat is the big free agent signing that makes waves for the franchise and fanbase. Some folks may be looking at DeMarcus Lawrence to follow Dan Quinn to Washington, but I think Sweat has more upside. To replace the probably departing Jonathan Allen, we sign B.J. Hill to add another stout defender in the middle of the defense.
The news broke late last night that Bobby Wagner is returning. The numbers aren’t fully available yet, but media is reporting $8.0 million guaranteed. He is a team leader, a good mentor to Jayden Daniels, and a fierce competitor on defense.
The secondary needs some help, especially at cornerback. A lot of fans will be hoping for the team to sign Darius Slay, but he may want a $10 million+ per year contract. Instead, I went with adding two cornerbacks for around $6 million in the form of Kristian Fulton and Jourdan Lewis. Adding those two to Marshon Lattimore and Mike Sainristil would improve the position group over 2024 season. Washington adds proven a veteran safety on a one-year deal with Marcus Maye to replace Darrick Forrest.
Washington also needs to address the offensive line. Sam Cosmi is going to miss some part of the 2025 season because of the knee injury he suffered in the playoffs. Dalton Risner is a solid veteran player who can fill in while Cosmi is out. He and Nick Allegretti can compete for the other spot once Cosmi returns with the loser being the primary backup. Right tackle Andrew Wylie is probably going to be cut. Signing Trent Brown gives the team a low-cost option while looking for a long-term solution in the draft.
So, all told, I have just spent around $65 million on twelve players. That leaves around $5 million for special teams type role players. Let me know what you think about this in the comments section.
