Free Agent Preview: Offensive Line

Offensive Line Free Agency
This is certainly a critical position group for Washington headed into the offseason considering the injury to right guard Samuel Cosmi and the overall struggles the offensive line had this season. The front office hinted about how pleased they were with this group, especially with the play of rookie left tackle Brandon Coleman. This free agent class is primed to bolster this unit not just for this season but for the next several years. The options for the tackle group boil down to left tackle Ronnie Stanley and then everyone else, and if Washington feels Coleman would be better served as a right tackle or possibly as an interior lineman, Stanley is a perfect fit.
When it comes to the guard position, Mekhi Becton is one of the more enticing options and my favorite choice for Washington. He had a resurgence in his career last season when he moved from tackle to guard for the Philadelphia Eagles. At 26 years old, Becton could help anchor a very strong and potentially dominant interior line alongside Cosmi and center Tyler Biadasz for many years. Another option to watch for is Patrick Mekari as he not only could fill a role as a starter at guard for the injured Cosmi but has position flexibility as a swing tackle as well.
Let’s dive into the offensive line free agent list and keep in mind the projected average annual salary listed below by Spotrac is a baseline value that will be significantly higher for some players. The market availability and team needs will cause some players to be overvalued, which will in turn allow them to sign a much larger contract.
Offensive tackle
Ronnie Stanley, Baltimore Ravens (30 years old)
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $20.7 Million
- Note: Stanley was a former first team all pro in 2019 but has not remained healthy until last season. Played in 98% of the available 1089 snaps last season, drawing 9 penalties all season.
Cam Robinson (29yrs old), Minnesota Vikings
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $14 Million
- Note: Aside from a minor 2023 knee injury that cost him 7 games, Robinson has been a solid and reliable starting tackle. Last season was a better year for this typically better run blocker than a pass protector as Robinson allowed 3 hits and 8 hurries on 239 pass block snaps.
Dan Moore Jr. (26 years old), Pittsburgh Steelers
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $12.6 Million
- Note: One of the youngest of this group. Has 66 career starts playing in approximately 98% of 4306 available offensive snaps. Moore offers the most upside of this group. He is a disciplined player who was flagged for only 7 penalties total the past 2 seasons.
Tyron Smith (34 years old), New York Jets
- Projected Average Annual Salary:$7.5 Million
- Note: Smith missed significant time 3 of the last 5 seasons with last year being a neck injury cutting his season short. This perennial Pro Bowler and future Hall of Famer could add veteran leadership and depth.
Jedrick Wills Jr. (26 years old), Cleveland Browns
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $2.2 Million
- Note: Former top 10 pick in the 2020 draft never found a home at left tackle and eventually was benched last season. A change of scenery and potential move to guard like Mekhi Becton could jolt his career going forward. At the age of 26 there is still plenty of football left in Wills.
Morgan Moses (34 years old), New York Jets
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $2 Million
- Note: Former Washington Redskins right tackle we all know very well. A solid tackle who can add veteran leadership and depth on the offensive line. He could be an option as a swing tackle at this point of his career.
Offensive guard
Will Fries (26 years old), Indianapolis Colts
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $14.1 Million
- Note: This former 7th round pick is a promising young guard who began to come into his own last season before breaking his tibia in week 5. He’s regarded as the second best interior lineman available in free agency behind Trey Smith who was given a franchise tag designation by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mekhi Becton (26 years old), Philadelphia Eagles
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $10.2 Million
- Note: Becton had a career resurgense in Philadelphia last season moving inside to right guard. A typically strong run blocker, Becton improved in his pass protection last season and at the age of 26 he could become a staple for Washington’s offensive line for a long time. He is one free agent I can see Adam Peters making a strong push for early.
Teven Jenkins (27 years old), Chicago Bears
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $10.3 Million
- Note: Missing time with injuries every year since the 2022 season, which could impact his market, the market for Jenkins will be interesting. It wasn’t until a move from tackle to guard when his production began to increase. Jenkins could be a guy Washington looks at if he makes it through the early portion of the free agent signing period if they do not land someone like Mekhi Becton.
James Daniels (27 years old), Pittsburgh, Steelers
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $7.8 Million
- Note: Coming off an Achilles injury that cut his 2024 season short, Daniels could very well be off Washington’s radar this offseason. Considering Cosmi’s injury to they will be looking for starting quality interior linemen for week 1 and reliable depth behind them too. The unfortunate part is he was graded as the second best guard with a 92.9 offensive grade by PFF and could be a steal this offseason if he returns to form prior to his injury. Durability was never an issue for Daniels heading into the 2024 season, playing in 100% of all available offensive snaps the three years prior.
Patrick Mekari (28 years old), Baltimore Ravens (G/T)
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $10.3 Million
- Note: A versitile lineman who played both guard and tackle for the Ravens last season but was more affective on the interior of the line. While Washington could see Mekari as an option after the first wave of free agent signings as guard, he may intrigue them or any other team as a swing tackle option. Mekari offers excellent position flexibility.
Brandon Scherff (33 years old), Jacksonville Jaguars
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $6.7 Million
- Note: A former all pro for the Washington Redskins, Scherff wasn’t as productive during his time in Jacksonville but has stayed healthy for three years running as a serviceable starter. He played in approximately 97% of the available 3,181 snaps over the last 3 seasons. At 33 years old, he may not offer a long-term answer at the guard position but could fill a role created by Cosmi’s ACL injury.
Aaron Banks (27 years old), San Francisco 49ers
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $9.7 Million
- Note: Banks, a former second round pick, allowed just one sack on 471 pass-blocking snaps last season, according to Pro Football Focus. There is caution to be taken as the San Francisco 49ers are allowing him to potentially walk in free agency. After his 2023 breakout season, he had apparently regressed considerably in the 2024 season as he struggled to maintain his blocks or simply was out of position far too often. On top of that, Banks is returning from a week 16 MCL injury so he certainly coming with a “buyer beware” warning heading into this free agency.
Center
Drew Dalman (26 years old), Atlanta Falcons
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $6.8 Million
- Note: Coming off an ankle injury this past season, Dalman is one of the top offensive linemen in free agency. Washington already has Tyler Biadasz, so there is not much sense here to signing Dalman to a long term deal. Plus, with the need of good centers for many of these young quarterbacks, he is most likely going to receive an annual average salary far more than what is projected.
Ryan Kelly (31 years old), Indianapolis Colts
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $10.1 Million
- Note: This former first round pick and four-time pro bowler who has had an assortment of injuries in recent years, like a knee injury in the 2024 season. A veteran center who can offer a few more years as a potential starter but at his projected $10.1 million salary, it is unlikely Washington even considers signing Kelly.
Josh Myers (27 years old), Green Bay Packers
- Projected Average Annual Salary: $7.7 Million
- Note: Myers played in 99% out of the available 3,188 snaps for the Packers over the last 3 years. The consensus is split on whether he can anchor the offensive line or not but, in a shallow offensive center market, he is sure to garner more than his projected salary. Like with Drew Dalman, the interest for Myers in a competitive market for his services will most likely be minimal with Biadasz signed through the 2026 season.
