In the 2025 NFL Draft, the Commanders will have the 29th overall pick in the first round. The position picked for Washington by descending frequency is:

N/A = No pick because it was in a trade package for Myles Garrett, which won’t happen now with his contract extension.
The shift away from the wide receiver continues with a 3.4% decrease. With the free agency moves Washington has made, the draft prognosticators now view the defensive line as the most likely choice for the Commanders. The edge position is up 5.6% and interior defensive line is up almost 0.5%. The other large movers were cornerback, which was down nearly 2% while safety was up just over 1%.

While Matthew Golden, Josh Simmons, and Josh Conerly still sit atop the list, edge players like James Pearce and Mike Green are rapidly moving up. This trend will likely increase as we move closer to the draft. As mocks get updated the Garrett trade picks should also decrease.
Position Focus
While the Commanders signed safety Will Harris in free agency, they lost Jeremy Chinn and Darrick Forrest. The team also has Percy Butler, Dominique Hampton, Jeremy Reaves and Tyler Owens on the roster. Investing in another safety is something the team might do if a player they like is available in the draft.
