Washington drafted University of Mississippi corner Trey Amos with the 29th pick in round 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft, 61st overall.

Amos played a total of five seasons of college football, including three seasons at the University of Louisiana from 2020 to 2022, one season at the University of Alabama in 2023, and one season at the University of Mississippi in 2024.  In that time, he played in a total of 61 games and made 121 tackles, including 91 solo and 8 for loss, and 4 interceptions.  In 2024 at Mississippi, he played in 14 games and made 50 tackles, including 39 solo and 4 for loss, and 3 interceptions, and earned First-team All-SEC honors.

At the NFL Combine, he measured at 6’1”, 195 pounds, and an arm length of 31 ¼”.  He ran the 40 yard dash in 4.43 seconds, jumped 32.5” in the vertical leap and 10’6” in the standing broad jump, and did 13 bench press reps.

Amos is known as a player with outstanding speed and size for his position, which suggests that his natural position in the NFL could be at outside corner.  Scouts view him as having good foot quickness and footwork.  He is seen as a physical corner, which will be a benefit in the NFL. Amos is seen as being best in a zone system.  On the negative side, some believe that he can be a bit too much of an arm tackler and that he is occasionally indecisive in coverage.  As a second round pick, Washington will most likely give Amos a chance to earn a starting job from day one on the outside opposite Marshon Lattimore.  If that move happens, it will allow last year’s second round pick, Mike Sainristil, to move to his more natural position in the slot.  Also, and perhaps more importantly, Amos can be a plan B of sorts for Lattimore, who was hampered by injury and not successful in the #1 corner role last season.  If Amos ends up being a plus-level starter, it’s not impossible to think that the team could eventually move on from Lattimore and save his large cap space.
