Game Impactors
The only game-impacting penalties occurred when the game was long out of reach for Washington. The Eagles committed two penalties on Washington’s only touchdown driver. A defensive holding penalty gave the Commanders a first down on a third down and 13 yards to go situation. Then, on the subsequent play, a face mask penalty was called on an 8-yard completion to Antonio Gibson moving the ball down the Eagles 37-yard line. Washington was able to score 7 plays later.
Miscellaneous Thoughts
Rachad Wildgoose picked up two defensive pass interference calls in the first half. He did end up playing 69% of the defensive snaps in the game, so maybe it was just nerves and poor technique.
Charles Leno picked up two false starts against the relentless Eagles pass rush. This is uncharacteristic of Leno as he had only two penalties in all of 2021 (one false start and one for holding).
