The Return of Rick Doc Walker
We welcome back Doc Walker to our show, Doc talks to us about how he thinks the team needs to go about being built, from the bottom on up. We go into everything QB’s, offensive weapons, special teams, defense. We also quickly cover the championship games this week.
So I threw together some nonsense so you guy can argue about something else.

Dayum, that’s cold! We got down to 44 yesterday, which is as cold as I can remember it getting in Miami.

Don’t need to to know exactly what he’s posting.
WaPo, I think he’s after beep today, reports they’ve been seen feeding out at the drop-off.

Sometimes Kurt looks like he has a hand designed by Freddie Kruger.

not a huge fan, the hardest thing to do is to take someone who is widely inconsistent and make them consistent
Agree. Can’t deny he has a high ceiling, but he also has a very low floor. Someone will probably take him in the first round and I hope to hell it’s not the Redskins.
Yea… accuracy, you either have it… or you don’t. Easiest to fix VERY early on.
“The thing about him that’s unique, and you don’t see it too often, he’s a pretty good athlete with his legs,” McCloughan said. “He can make plays moving around the pocket and running for first downs. He’s got a strong enough arm, there’s no doubt about it. He’s been through adversity. He got drafted the same year that Robert Griffin got drafted. And Robert was the guy and of course he deserved it. He was Offensive Rookie of the Year and Kirk just had to sit back and just wait and wait and wait.
“He wants to play. He’s highly, highly competitive. He comes across as a real nice guy, like Alex Smith did in interviews — and they are. But they’re both highly competitive and they want to win. But they want that stability too. They want to know they’re in some spot where it’s not just a one-year deal, one-year deal, one-year deal. He wants a long-term deal.”
“He’s talented,” McCloughan said. “Talent is good at quarterback in the NFL. He’s won games. I know his record overall isn’t over .500. I know he hasn’t won a playoff game. But he’s competitive. He works his tail off. He’s so methodical. Every day he has planned out. He’s always in the building, he’s always watching tape, he’s always talking to coaches, he [was] talking to me. From the standpoint of the tangibles, they’re excellent. You just need to have some talent around him because you don’t want him to be throwing the ball 35-40 times to win the game. You want to have a running game, and have a good defense, good teams. And then let him do what he does.”
To be fair, you don’t want any QB throwing 35-40 times on the regular.
And this is where we part ways – Allen, Gruden & Gruden coalition
From Scot McCloughan…
“I might not have been around him [Cousins] long enough in terms of years, from the standpoint I was around Brett Favre, Russell Wilson, Matt Hasselbeck, Alex Smith,” McCloughan said. “He’s a good player. Is he special? I don’t see special. But also, we were still building a roster around him to make him special.”
I heard that and Scot is still considered to be a great evaluator of talent. No one bats 1.000 but Scot definitely knows how to make sound evaluations.
He’s spot on when it comes to Kurt.
Meantime here is some super amazing transformational origami. Totally enjoyed this.

Not that it has to be this way but Cooley said Bellichick and Brady are REALLY tight and hand together off the field.
They hand together? Oh my…
Maybe he means “spoon”?
That would create a disturbing mental image
It’s said, they’re also fans of corn.
…on a drill
Oof!
They wife swap.
That’s probably good for BB
Except that by all accounts BB wanted to trade Brady and keep JimmyG….
All accounts except for the joint statement immediately refuting that issued by I believe BB, Brady and Kraft.
Yeah. 🙂
Jay doesn’t need a best friend. He needs a QB who knows his system inside out.
So, if they draft a QB, I sure hope Jay gets a three-year rebuild pass, because it’s going to be “Well, he’s still learning the system… Biggest leap comes in year 2… After a full year in our system, etc.” And that’s if there’s no injury or setbacks.
And, of course, it also means the Skins have to pick the best QB of the leftovers.
But maybe they’ll trade up…. :/

Congress still gets paid, no matter what.
——————————–
EVERY member of congress is a 1%er. every single one. EVERY member of congress gets health care for the rest of their lives. it’s silly of us to think any of them give a shit about any of us.
Yep
I’m 1000% on board for docking Congress’ pay if they can’t keep the government open. Fuck, FINE them.
It is their JOB!
You love docking, don’t you.
Goddamn, well I declare……………………….
Have you seen the light?
jinx!
DAMMIT!
YES….YES……JESUS H TAP DANCING CHRIST……
I HAVE SEEEEEEEEN……THE LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
– Jake
have you seen the light?
I’m thinking you have.
That is something that I think everyone from every side of the political spectrum knows, if they are politically aware at all.
Back when House of Cards first started up, I remember Bill Clinton said it was closer than any other show to how politics is like, but real politics is even more cutthroat.
This morning on 980…
Sheehan: Kirk and Jay’s personalities don’t match. Kirk is more methodical and thoughtful and tactical, and Gruden seems like he wants a guy to just ball out. Gruden needs to find his guy. Enough of this. Let’s move on from this and let him find his guy. But I will say this…Kirk has thrown for over 13,000 yards in three seasons.
Cooley: Why do you continue to do that?
This is why the more I think about it the more I see Baker Mayfield as our next QB
No!
I’m perfectly fine with that. Colt will start next year (Mayfield and he have similar playing styles) and Baker will take over before the end of the season.
Or, do they work together because they are different personalities? Fact is the best teamwork can be when people work against each other in a way. Would the Beatles have worked if Paul’s more generic pop rock wasn’t being bounced through Johns drug fueled crazy mind?
It may not be a match made in heaven, but the reality is that if KC leaves Jay will very likely have a less competent QB to work with. And that’s okay as long as you use the savings to good effect.
IF…..and that’s a huge “IF”……..the Redskins add a legit starter to the O and D lines, pick up a legitimately “elite” RB either via the draft or FA…..AND we add 3 quality pieces to our defense which puts our defense in a top-9 ranking…….
I might be okay with Colt starting week 1.
But I don’t see all of that happening. Therefore, I am totally against any plans that involve Colt starting week 1.
That’s all hard to do.
With Jay
Jacksonville says hi after going 3-13 last year.
Jacksonville also hit a bunch in the draft before.
Which we are doing right now. Even a UDFA who will start next season in Lanier.
Great discussion on 980 this morning….
Sheehan played a clip of a Scot McCloughan interview about his thoughts on Kirk Cousins..
McCloughan: “I think Kirk has done his homework…probably a little too much, but he’s prepared and has stats and facts about every team…their coaches, salary cap, WR’s, offensive linemen, etc.
Sheehan: “Wait a minute…Cooley did you hear that “probably too much”. That’s interesting. Cooley what do you think he’s saying there”?
Cooley: “I think Scot is saying Kirk is overthinking his value”
You can tell Scot would be for NOT signing Kurt to a LTD if he was here. And that’s not spite. He was rendering a professional opinion.
Professional DRUNK opinion! – the TI historical society
I agree NPI
Overthinking, probably. But that’s not the same as overestimating.
My only problem with a government shut-down is that all of the government employees are retroactively paid for the time the government is shut down. So the people end-up paying for absolutely nothing….
Send em all home for a week or 2. It shows the citizenry just how little we lose out on when the crying idiots are out of the office.
Yep… shut it down and don’t pay for no work. IF they worked during the shut down I can understand paying them (military, etc)
if that’s the case, squinns, that’s f’ed up.
it’s good to be a govt worker.
I don’t have a problem with it. Not the workers’ fault that Trump and Congress can’t get their shit together.
You’re a moron.
(and a pussy)
This user is blocked.
if the govt is shutdown, they’re not DOING anything. what are they getting paid for? i know it’s not their fault, but damn…. we’re paying them for nothing?
as mentioned with my mom/pop: it’s a good gig.
Again, not their fault, and they have bills to pay.
Get a better job
The government rules don’t completely eliminate finding another job during a furlough, but they pretty much make it impossible for a gov employee to find comparable work. and there are a few policy hitches in there too. for example, not sure what the repercussions would be, but you have to file with an office that ostensibly would be on furlough as well when you BEGIN negotiations with another firm/company, etc.
So an example would be, let’s say the Gov’t had a Redskins blog.
During the furlough, the people who wrote that blog could not do so for the Hogsty. Not even voluntarily. It would be like an EPA employee volunteering to work at Exxon Mobil during a furlough (because they loved whatever science or engineering it was that they do so much!)
I don’t have a problem with it, either. Not sure why some squabble between the Ds and the Rs should result in ordinary people not being able to pay rent.
For sure don’t pay actual members of congress, but seriously, why is the lady working the gift shop at a museum supposed to suffer?
Congress still gets paid, no matter what.
Beep never fucked with me. I threatened to destroy his lawn with trucker bombs the next time I was in Charleston.
Allow me to assist, my good sir

Hahahaa. Good find!
🙂
Pelosi: If the government shuts down, people will die!
Reporter: Senator, how are you going to vote then?
Pelosi: I haven’t decided.
BWAAAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Pelosi: Well, they’re just going to have to die!
Some people deserve to die…
So do we get to choose which ones die when the government shut down?
there’s a lot of money that dies
sounds a bit melodramatic
the shutdown would have to go really long for many of the “life-endangerment” and “national security” programs to run into appropriations issues
Personally, I’m ALWAYS for a government shut down.
Yeah. Cops still on the beat. The Hospitals are still open. Trash even still gets picked up. All essential services stay running.
Fine by me. Take 2 weeks off!
it costs billions of dollars to shut the government down and then reopen it. think about it.
if 800,000 people get furloughed and they have half a day to come in to do NOTHING else but perform a shut-down of their job, that’s 3.2 MILLION man hours JUST for that alone. Forgetting any training, meetings, or projects that have sunk and non-refundable costs that have to be paid for once and then, because it was important enough to pay for the output, pay for it again. And the planning time the 48 hours up to it, and then on the flip, coming back to work.
I.
Don’t.
Care.
Shut the fucker down.
Spoken like a man whose paycheck isn’t at risk.
By my own doing.
And it’s just a temporary stunt anyway. That’s why it should not be taken so seriously. It’s a political stunt.
If you live in DC, I believe the budget for trash & some other services do get shut down if there’s a government shutdown.
I never liked Beep-Beep. Most of the sites I spend time at on the internet are friendly. Beep was one of the first posters I saw (in the 8 or whatever years I spent at WaPo) who really made it his mission to be an asshole to everyone he could. He must have some serious problems. Usually, people who are constantly toxic like that feel like it’s the only way they can be respected.
it’s humor that’s just a bit too honest?
I always equated beep with those two old fart muppets in the peanut gallery tossing insults. I never took him seriously, he worked too hard on his persona.
Haha! Yes. This.
But the old fart muppets are a lot funnier.
Fozzy: Now it is a tradition for me to make a little speech.
Old Farts: And now it is a tradition for us to take a little nap!
(Classic!)
I always liked Beep Beep. His utter dedication to quality snark was unmatched
Yes, I could see the humor in his posts. I took him with a grain of salt.
Yeah, he was basically a jerk. Wasn’t there to talk about the Redskins at all, but just to critique people who were.
To be fair he wasn’t always that way. In the early days when he went by a couple different monikers he was a football guy. I think age and cynicism caught up with him
I can see that. And can’t deny that he could be witty on occasion.
Once a douche…..always a douche.
Dude was king of all douchedom.
Early one he was an okay guy, but he got bad as time went on. There was a threshold he crossed when he changed his screen name about 5 different times after getting blocked repeatedly. Fact is if you get blocked and change names and get blocked again the problem is you.
I’d love to see a Jags n Viking SB.
if the AFC wins either way, it would be a huge D’oh for the NFC team, once again denied. oh-fer
As long as the Eagles stay 0-fer, I’ll be happy.
I could handle the Vikes winning it. And while I usually don’t want to see the high Ring-count franchises win (Stillers, Pukes, 9ers, etc) I’m almost numb to Brady/Belichek winning them at this poing.
I get what you mean about being numb.

No, the NBC execs did. so prob Lauer?
D_C still pops over so he can self-like a post without detection.

But, yeah, that’s just ugly, as are most, if not all, televangelists.
to be fair, a Hondajet is $4.5 mil, and seats like a whole 4-6 people. at $3 mil, it’s prob the equivalent of a moderately priced used Hyundai. but yeah, you’d have to make a lot of airline trips to make that balance out vs commercial flights regarding both time and money.
Will have a new post up later today. Seems we had a mix up on what was supposed to be up today, so I banged out some slop about running backs this morning. Steve’s gonna edit it shortly.

So, a bunch of simpletons — Noone, NPI, HTTR65 — show up with multiple posts to say “I’m too good to post here.” If you’re too good to post here, why are you posting here?
You know who else is too good to post here? My late husband, Beep-Beep, RIP. Well, technically, he’s too dead to post here, but if he were alive he wouldn’t post here because he would be too good to post here. Not like Noone, HTTR65, and NPI, who actually are only good enough to post here. And their comments are always so well-informed, thoughtful, and enlightening. Don’t believe me? Read them and judge for yourselves.

Yes. No money left for Zach Brown.

i will neither confirm nor deny that assertion.
Light pillars are an atmospheric optical phenomenon describing vertical bands of light that appear to stream off light objects or surfaces on the Earth. They occur when light is reflected off tiny ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. The light source can be anything from the sun (“solar” or “sun” pillars), to the moon (“lunar” or “moon” pillars), to streetlights. Light pillars can be seen at any time of the day.

Cleveland picks a QB and DL in first round and proceeds to win AFC north and wins their 1st playoff game. Would that piss skins fans off at all?
No because I would be too distracted by the universe imploding.
How did Myles Garrett do this year? I didn’t even pay attention cause Cleveland sucks so bad.
I learned he can dunk. I think he will be good but I didn’t see him do anything Jon Allen can’t do better.
He missed a fair amount of time with a high ankle sprain, but he was excellent when he was healthy.
I like the new avatar just fine, DC. But you gotta bring back the old one. That was classic. Just saying.
Heh, I will. I don’t like the new one.

who are you?
I am the wind beneath your wings.
you look like the arm and hammer redskin…
ZOOOOOOOOOOM IN.
I THOUGHT THAT TOO, lol.
Frankly?
Who are you, Marty Shottenheimer?
not too bad for a rookie 31 comb tackles, 7 sacks
In 11 games.
extrapolation would be 45 and 10
not quite Ryan Kerrigan numbers*, but good for a rookie
*Ryan Kerrigan was 64 and 7.5 his rookie year, with 4FF
True, but RK only had 7.5 sacks his rookie year. Also have to consider that teams playing the Browns were rarely in “must pass” mode.
So Preston Smith is better then because of the 8 sacks in his rookie year?
Dumb, as per usual D_C.
Ryan Kerrigan’s 2017 numbers for tackles would be similar, but with 13 sacks
Cleveland shold have a drawing to pick a fan to make their first pick.
Can’t be any worse than they’ve done historically.
That would be awesome actually. It would make so much news…especially if the pick was actually a superstar lol.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! – QGC
game theory says if they just have the fans vote on a pick and get a 100K+ distinct voters the resulting pick is likely to be as accurate as an NFL executives’ pick
that only works is the people who vote have a real stake… some skin in the game; is being a “fan” enough stake? I mean, it would almost certainly be biased toward some Ohio State or Penn State player one would think
technically they do not have to be Browns fans, just football fans in general
they other key is distinct voters so people cannot bias to a favorite player
have a Google Alert going for mock drafts
have a Google Sheet going to track what people pick for the Redskins
posted a first pass late last night
interesting that Derwin James and Calvin Ridley were the leading picks right now
Unsure why BB has pressers. Shit is painful and utterly useless.
Reporter – gonna bring in a 3rd QB given Brady’s injury?
BB – we’re gonna do whatever we can to beat the Jags
Silence…
smart
My all-time fav was when James Harrison was visiting the team facility, likely working out a deal. When the reporter asked about that, BB said something like, “It’s always nice to meet new people.”
LMFAO
That’s a good one.
I guess there’s a 10 min mandatory minimum? So he ensures on explaining the Jags defense. Explains they play an over-under and what the means in Lehman’s terms just to waste time.
Dude couldn’t care less
I actually listened to him yesterday. He was on auto-pilot. “Real go-getter, great get-off, disruptive, hard to block, great at the point of attack, gonna give us real problems…..”
My favorite has nothing to do with what he “says”, rather, it’s the subtle facial reaction to a question he clearly thinks is totally stupid and has nothing to do with the actual game.
Is Brady gonna be a game time decision?
BB – “it’s friday” Bwahahahaha
Coach? Why is Tom Brady on the post-game injury report with a sore shoulder??
BB – “He threw the football 50 times and his shoulder is sore.”
lol
so his explanations were totally bankrupt?
He’s only there so he doesn’t get fined.

DL makes LB better
This ain’t 1991. There are plenty of great ILBs who come in under 230 lbs. Telvin Smith would be one example, at 218. Deion Jones would be another at 220.
No Poona? Fail
Good draft grade. I don’t think we should be taking LBs or WRs in the first two rounds, though.

In a game of one hand touch……he owned Moss.
Someone VERY GOOD will fall to us at #13. Draft is pretty deep at DL, QB, RB and OL (in the early rounds).
These are all PON.
ILB/MLB
Is the draft deep at ILB? Outside of the Georgia player, who else is a monster?
Jewell
speaking of Iowa kids, that CB Jackson, I would not complain at #13
that dude pretty much beat Ohio State, ball-hawk
No one else seems to be that high on Jewell.
not first round, probably 3rd, maybe someone in the late 2nd
4th
Deep? Not in first round talent. That’s just the MLB I was thinking of anyway. But it’s definitely a PON.
Malik Jefferson is good, if you’re looking for pure speed at ILB. Good insticts. Gets to the ball. Sure tackler, but not a thumper. I wouldn’t bitch if he was taken in the 2nd/3rd round.
and that “Georgia player” is the size of a good sized SS, man w/o a position
From what I’ve seen it’s RSmith and everyone else at ILB.
#49

Yes, so long as we don’t do something crazy, like pick Josh Allen.
We’re gonna get a day 1 starter at 13….no matter what position. So that’s good.
http://ksassets.timeincuk.net/wp/uploads/sites/55/2012/04/1992AxlRose02PA180412-2.jpg
Where do we go now……
So apparently we tried to get Paul Geunther as our DC last year as him and Jay are BFF’s….but he had a year left on his contract with Cinci….so he had to stay, no he’s in Oakland with Jon. I’d post the link to the article but I don’t wanna get marked as spam again.
I’m not generally opposed to taking a great RB in round 1, but this year’s class is so stacked I think it would be nuts to make that call. Should be able to get a *really* good RB in the 3rd round and a VG one in the 4th.
if the fake fake completely fake unrealistic mockery happened where you trade back TWICE to like 20 or 21 and the Guice is there? EVEN I had to pull that fake mockery trigger.
Nope, not even then. If it was Barkley I’d pull the trigger. At a certain point you’ve just gotta go bpa.
first, he’d prob be far and away “BPA” at that point
2nd,
less to worry about because you’ve prob added 2 more top 3 round selections to your quiver. take the RB, get the LBs and OG too
I just don’t think Guice is that special. Very good, but not special, and there are a lot of very good RBs in this class.
Best football player, dummy. Best football player available. Might be a RB, might be a QB, might be a guard.

Did something leak about us being interested in Mayfield? Lots of Baker talk today.
Nope, just jibber jabber. Only news I heard was that he supposedly wants to go to Miami.

Httr bringing the foolish
RG busting was on the coach?
Manziel busting was on the coach?
Maybe get a snickers
I would have no problem drafting Baker Mayfield if the Redskins can’t ink Cousins to an LTD.
Kid has great accuracy, can make all of the throws, and has an intense desire to win, and it shows. The only red flag for me is his off-the-field antics, and a few unsportsmanlike on-the-field antics.
I think Gruden would love to work with him.
I’m sure every team with the slightest bit of interest is doing a deep dive into his personality. OTOH … Su’a.
Su’a was a Barry guy and Barry’s gone
Berry didn’t draft him, though. That was on Scot … who is also gone.
Barry recruited him out of HS @USC, and certainly had a hand in it
Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
at the #13 pick, not the worst idea ever
he’s much more mobile than Tanner Lee
University of Texas basketball star Andrew Jones felt under the weather. Diagnosed with leukemia.
Feel really bad for the kid.
That’s tough.
Majority of ‘bust ‘ QBs js on the coach anyway. Kaep went to the SB. Foles or Keenum will too as well as Bortles perhaps
We don’t have that kinda defense……..
Gotta throw touch TDs regardless. SF defense was top 10 I think. Not top 2
Gotta be clutch in other words..floaters OOB etc wont work

Defense for Skins be a lot better if O dont go 3 and out 75% of the time. Any D wears out.
Trading up to get BM doesn’t help your odds of solidifying the defense. Solidifying the defense makes a mid-round QB work.
I thought the trade up was for Jackson, errr… one of the other QBs, but the Mayfield thing was a #13 pick
That was YOUR thing. QGC is all in for week one with Mayfield.

“Foster, who has run the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds at Alabama, got behind a Rams defensive back on a go route but couldn’t catch up to a Jalen Hurts pass that was barely overthrown.”
I despise an inaccurate QB. Hurts = Josh Jackson, fuck that noise.
10 catches for 174 yds on the season….that Foster?
Yeah, for a dollar.
He’s worth that.
Dig deeper, oh cynical one…..
14 receptions this year. 5 last year. 10 the season before that. Can’t even find him on WalterFootball
Which is your Bible, no doubt. If he’s not drafted after 7 rounds, you bring him in and take a look. Understand?
Ehh
I’ll take that as a no.
Jay though.
You bring in someone, like a Robert Davis…and they just sit there. Never used.
Maybe this year. Davis was raw, huge upside. It’s a pearls from the pig shit kinda thing.

Are there any blazing fast receivers in the draft?
Not a blazer per say…but a Ishmael /Syracuse can do work
Parris Campbell?
? Dont know her
Always, but very few can track and catch at the next level.
you going all “Moe” and thinking that Crowder’s time is up?
Handful in the mid 4.4s
No one that has any cheetah in them
A guy who runs in the mid 4.4s who can track the ball and has good body control is about all you need. We just need a guy who can run professional routes and move the sticks, can block, and is “just” fast and good enough for the S to keep at least half an eye on his side of the field.
Steve Largent….go find that guy in the draft.
Jordan Westerkamp is a free agent and he’s THAT guy (Largent).
I’m talking more along the lines of someone with a bit more speed and size, but not to the point where you’re picking him at #13.
If he plays anything like his dad, then Austin Proehl is your guy in the late rounds or UDFA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YWHhWc1QTE
Ricky Proehl was a clutch receiver (like Largent), and a really nice guy in person. Played softball with him in Greensboro during the offseason. Was a WR coach for the Panthers for a while, and now runs an athletic performance center in Greensboro.

Nice choice on the 460, bc. ~15 years ago, I went with a 310 since I’m rarely working on saw timber >20″ dbh and even then it’s almost always on the ground. It’s been a great all-round saw…but a 460 + a 210 would be ideal.
I used a 044 for a long time. They had just come out with the 460 Magnum (and moved the zero to the back of the number) when I was ready to upgrade. It’s the same weight as a 044,or now, 440. Basically a big bore 440. I run a 24″ bar usually.
Yeah, the extra 4″ w/ the added pwer makes a yuge difference.
I know k0n, I know: that’s what she said.
The extra power makes all the difference. I like a Sthil also because the power band is broader. I have two Husqvarnas that really only make power at WFO. If you can tip toe through sometimes, it helps you not get fucked up.
It’s all I can do to pull a weed. The slaughter of a tree, I can’t do it. Even pruning feels like an act of cruelty.
Watching my children freeze would be pretty cruel, I would think. You saw that Beech being cut down? I specifically picked that video for you. Are you familiar with how a Beech tree will smothered out all of the trees around it? There’s a lot more going on than you anticipate. Down or standing dead is the standard policy. We like to keep our Oaks dropping acorns for the deer and squirrel. SENDING A SHOUT-OUT TO THE SIERRA CLUB! HEYYYYYY JABRONEES!
Dominant trees rule the canopy. That’s just how it is and thinking they need to be managed is just a justification for felling a grand ole, living thing.
^ Wrong. But also correct. It really depends on what you are managing for. While its true that on average, a grand ol’ tree produces the most mast for wildlife, there is nothing more sterile than a climax forest. The added light and resulting understory growth is a panacea. The ideal is a mix that includes ~5% of standing dead.
This continent, and Europe, and Asia….we dominated by woodlands for hundreds of thousands of years before the ice age and after. The shit was sprawling.
This thing where people have decided what’s best for the forest…I mean…….
Times change. Back in the day, forest fires kept the cycle going. Now, it’s smart and balanced habitat management that includes selective removal, plantings where appropriate, controlled burns. It’s all been exasperated by non-native invasive organisms. Chestnut blight wiping out the American Chestnut, Dutch Elm disease, gypsy moth, emerald ash borer.
Now see, invasive species I can agree with removing.
Kudzu. That shit needs to be dealt with.
Deer love eating Kudzu………
But people won’t let the population grow enough for deer to manage the stuff.
Where you live, deer eat corn from a feeder.
agreed.
-Monsanto
Also, I’m not judging anybody. Just saying…that’s something I can’t do.
You can’t cut down a dead tree? You can’t cut down 4 trees so that 12 might live?
Dead tree, sure. And to save 12…I’d relocate them.
It’s a little different, here on the ground.
You should try it up here in the clouds!
You aren’t starving for light and water, waxy leaves throwing shade at you, sprawling root systems choking you out.
I know. Lousy deal. Your nut fell and took root somewhere where other stuff was already growing.
No, some asshole came along and killed all of my grandparents, sent them to the sawmill, and let the waxy bastards get a leg up. We’re just taking back Winterfell.
lol
Dead trees are critical for wildlife, most forests don’t have enough. Transplanting can work OK but its very time consuming and expensive, and many species don’t transplant well. Selective removal of live trees can significantly improve the health and mast production of its immediate neighbors. Natural plant succession does this on its own often times, but once can accelerate the process through timber management.
This again takes me back to…if they need management for health, how the hell did they ever become the most abundant form of life across the planet?
Pre-bronze age…the forests were massive. Epic even.
Those days are long gone. You have to make due with what’s here, now. Examples of pre-industrial American forests don’t benefit the issues of today.
True.
I’m just saying….left alone, the forests would be fine. Think in terms of centuries, not in terms of our short life span.
No, because the harmony has been tilted.
We could use south Florida as an example. Left alone, snakes rule.
^ Forest fires were the key and they’ve been suppressed for a couple of centuries.
Plenty of dead, doty wood layin’ around, where it will stay.
they crowd out the delicious grass and must go
-Elephants
That’s the African pachyderm. The Asian variety lives smack in the middle of the jungle. When they’re left alone anyway.
still kinda cool to think that an Elephant is smart enough to go, “I don’t like eating trees, if I push all these trees over, delicious grass will grow…”
and so they do.
Elephants are more intelligent and compassionate than most humans.
Aye. The way they respond to one of their own in distress….
They eat their own poo.
There are times when an elephant, sharing interest in the endeavor, would have been most excellent.
Government shutdown? Hooray
How’s that happen when one party runs the whole shebang?
McConnell is and has been a weak leader, good at stalling not being active in legislative ability.
If there is a shutdown, the GOP clearly is planning on losing power in the next election, I suspect a number of vet legislators to publicly plan to leave office not run next cycle.
Wet wad of TP clogging up the toilet
I don’t want to be getting old here, but…the shit the kids make popular on youtube makes me take pause and have concern about the future. I mean sure, their brains are no where near cooked yet. But still, the shit they’re into now is going to influence them for the rest of their lives.
And man, the shit they are into is just straight dumb.

Same thing our parents said…and grandparents…and great grandparents. Basically, the world has been going to hell in a hand basket for 500 years; one of these days, they might be right.
In the 30s, they ate fish. In the 50s, they ate candy. In the 70s they ate each other out. In the 90s they ate ecstasy. Now, they’re eating tide pods.

k0n, I came home today to discover that my wife had bought herself a 20v battery powered chainsaw. I won’t allow her to use any of my gas saws (she couldn’t anyway) because quite frankly, she’ll fuck herself up with them. I tried it out today, it looks like a Fisher Price toy, but will prune our fruit trees and cut little scrub trees around the edge of the yard. Folks…
Jay Gruden is not a ground and pound coach. He’s not going to have a RB carry the ball 30 times a game. BUT, I see him having a RB that carries the ball 15-20 times….but catching it 7-10 times.
Jay protects the lead and runs out the clock by calling short passes that fall incomplete, no where near a first down. And does that for three consecutive plays.
k0n, how did Jon Gruden win that Superbowl again?

Been looking at Tennessee’s John Kelly today and I think he’d be great in Jay’s offense. A little bigger than CT. Like CT he can really catch the ball and make guys miss in the open field, but he’s a better inside runner. Really tough guy to bring down for his size.
————————————–
I’ve mentioned him before. I like him as a sleeper pick late day 2 on.
I don’t want the thought of Stormy Daniels spanking Trump in my head. And now that I’ve passed it on to anyone that just read that, I’m free of it.
If what Doc said about DWill is true, and Bruce stays out of the draft. Seems like we’re in the market for a QB, maybe a top shelf RB too. As far as FA goes, that fucker is tight with the wallet and I don’t think we’ll do well, as far as playmakers go. He destroyed a Superbowl champion Tampa Bay team in one year.
If he’s tight with the wallet in FA the hope is that he opens it for home grown talent. Draft well ol Brucey… draft well.
I’d rather he sits in the corner with a plate of buttery corn during the draft.
No one wants to see that
No
Can’t be flying around the place for nothing.
Not sure how he did that when John Gruden had final say in Tampa.
Do you have a garden?
John Gruden was a SB winning coach who had full roster control, Allen was brought in after they fired Rich McKay who Grudne didn’t like because Gruden had worked with Bruce before and knew he would have no issues.

We would not use a beast RB properly anyway, Grudens run game has been bad every where he has been and when he leaves it improves.

Your best hustle here is to draft a back that can cut, has good vision and burst, but also pass protects and has a receiving game. The kind of back that Jay could get excited about. The two I believe are best at this decided to go back to school. If, by some crazy event, we draft a premier back, Jay still has to use him.
I’m guessing this year is spent on QB and defensive line and ILB again… then next year stud RB
I can’t even start to predict what the Skins will do. So many needs on this team right now.
Predicting what Bruce will do is like smashing all 5 fingers with a hammer and trying to figure out which one hurts the worst.
Last practice for soccer for my daughter tonight. She has a tournament in Savannah this weekend big fun! Wish her well! She is 11 years old
I talked to your wife earlier and she mentioned this. Good luck. By the way… your wife was a joy to talk to.
She did question your excessive use of Redskins blogs though… we laughed. I told her I hear the same thing at home.
Ty my friend
I saw that Amazon released its list of finalists for its second HQs today. My short list would probably be Dallas and Atlanta. Both major cities that could absorb and support another large business coming in, each with big hub airports and secondary cargo airports, both have good centralized locations & fairly good weather. No need for a HQ on either coast, in my opinion. Will be interesting to see what they do.
DT comps:
Vita Vea – think Linval Joseph, Snacks Harrison, and Haloti Ngata in his prime. Stick him in the middle and he WILL command double teams and make it difficult for teams to run up the gut. You just don’t see guys tossing around 300 pounders the way Vea does. He is rare.
Da’Ron Payne – hard not to comp him to recent Bama DTs, Jarran Reed, A’Shawn Robinson, and Dalvin Tomlinson. Just a well-schooled, solid player who’s going to be strong against the run and can push the pocket a little bit. Tomlinson’s probably the best of the recent ones and I think Payne may be a little better than him.
Maurice Hurst – being a smaller, quicker guy, the two comps that come to mind may be the two best DTs in the league: Aaron Donald and Geno Atkins. Not saying Hurst is THAT good, but he has that sort of game where he wins with burst off the line and suddenness you don’t normally see in DTs. He’s not an immovable object like Vea, but his speed and football IQ makes him a very good run defender in addition to being the best pass rusher of the three.
Vita’s lateral quickness is insane for a guy his size
Absolutely. He played RB in high school.
He’s the poster boy for “stack and shed,” although that’s usually used with linebackers. He’ll just stand his blocker up waiting until the RB commits to a side, and then THROW the blocker aside and eat up the RB.
Harrison Phillips does this well, also.
Bruce sucks!
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/28414d021e37b203dce33f6198c49a9a4f62ec6caa3eeddaeaf45e8335101219.jpg
There ya go….. The long way is the wrong way.
I think he’s more of a double fister though
Sure, Bruce goes all out.
David and Louise Turpin need to be beaten to death with split bamboo.
Yea man. Those are some fucked up people.
Makes for arguing that people who want kids, need to get a permit.
Good Job Hog Sty on the Doc Walker interview.
Doc talked for 50 minutes
“I’d like to pick up at least 2 or 3 starters on defense”- Doc
A.J. Francis played pretty well down the stretch.
I don’t think he’s a downgrade from McClain.
Keim did a great piece where he got Jay to talk about the Vikings and Eagles defenses and how to attack them. Cool to hear him talking Xs and Os.
http://www.espn.com/blog/washington-redskins/post/_/id/35393/jay-gruden-on-how-to-attack-the-vikings-and-eagles-defenses
So a better run blocking line and a good running back is how you make them submit, work play action off of that.
“We need to quit experimenting at RB…we need a BEAST. A lot of teams have two…we don’t have one.”- Doc Walker
“exceptional”
Been looking at Tennessee’s John Kelly today and I think he’d be great in Jay’s offense. A little bigger than CT. Like CT he can really catch the ball and make guys miss in the open field, but he’s a better inside runner. Really tough guy to bring down for his size.
Yeah beast RB’s are not easy to come by.
We would not use a beast RB properly anyway, Grudens run game has been bad every where he has been and when he leaves it improves.
Doc was so right on that one.
Doc says he’s not comfortable with the Redskins paying over 25-28 million for Kirk.
I’m not either
Agree with scamp and Doc.
Doc also said he didn’t give a shit if they signed him or not.
At this point I don’t either. Lotta QB’s in the draft… just do SOMETHING and shut the fuck up about it already.
Yup
Brown had a great 2016 season and went to the pro bowl and yet the best FA offer he got was a 1 year deal for 2.3mil. He was having very good year this year but got hurt and missed 3 games and now we are just supposed to give him a blank check and make him a top paid ILB. Football contracts are negotiated that is how every team does it, no team ask the players agent how much do you want and then says OK here you go. Cousins was not low balled he was offered a contract as a starting point and never responded because he didn’t want to sign a long term contract. Cousins likes playing on short deals he even said so himself.
No one is saying the FO should drop their pants. But hellz man, these aren’t mega-dollars being discussed.
The long way is the wrong way.
That’s not what your mom said… OOOOHHHHHHH
My mother is a saint. Besides, your corn would only be fit for pickling.

Bruce’s nickname in college.
Once again, I think you over react and miss the gray area. Not one person said “pay him anything he wants.” We DO want to keep him though… if you don’t you have yet ANOTHER hole to fill. You wanna do that with Compton?

This is weird.

I’m trying to figure out the corn cob usage.
Harvest Feast maybe?
Bruce sucks, kinda self explanatory.
Hey. You’re the artist with the interpretation. What you see is what you see.
Lol, I did it in a hurry the other day. The point is, Bruce eats his corn the long way, and the long way is the wrong way.
There’s a new Liz Clarke article at the TI.
I was just there and didn’t see a thing… still same tired 6 day old post
It’s there .
Glad it’s not Here
It’s really long… so a LOT of wasted characters

His mom’s been outta work for a couple weeks.
There it is!!!
Who gives a shit?
Somebody’s gettin’ squirrelly…. that’s two, today.
Keim- LB Zach Brown: The Redskins want him back and already have had discussions. But they’re not yet willing to meet Brown’s price tag – and there seems to be a decent gap. Keep in mind Brown had a strong season in 2016 and had to settle for a one-year deal for $2.3 million last offseason. Of the top 10 paid inside linebackers last season, seven average at least $7 million per year. If that’s what Brown wants, it’s real hard to see him getting that in Washington. He’s a good player with flaws whom the Redskins would like to keep – at the right price.
I hope these fuckers don’t Kirk Cousins this situation
..
You don’t say…
It wouldn’t post as a reply.
*sigh*, confidence is low.
Uhhh…..Bruce, don’t screw this up. $7.5m for your league leading tackling machine, is good value.

My Man!
People need to learn how to drive, again. All this self-driving nonsense. Get rid of all the screens and bring back the manual column shifter!
I had a 3-on-the-tree ’66 Malibu for several months. Candy apple blue, 283. Fair condition but pretty cool.
I was this >< close to posting 'I bet Lb misses those manual column shifting days'
LOL. I’ve always had a stick for ‘my’ ride, family cruisers notwithstanding. Current sandmobile is a Tacoma, 5 speed manual. Getting hard to find, *sigh*.
Better than a slush box any day.
Automatics are for chicks…not named Danica.
You can drive my 1969 F350 around if you wanna feel nostalgic….4-speed granny, manual steering and brakes.
That is an awesome ride.
It’s got the PTO plate 🙂 dually, 12′ bed. 360 FE
Perfection.
I waited and waited, watching Craigslist for the old farmer that wanted an upgrade.
Horizontal speedometers are cool as hell.
The emergency flasher switch is in the glovebox. Side vents open to blow cold air on your balls on a hot summer day.
it is no longer enough for people to “just” drive. the lure of the cell phone is ridiculous. driving and texting should be treated like drunk driving.

After I dumped the Plymouth, I got a used 1967 Volvo 122S sedan. Got me through my senior year, and all the way through college. Made many a road trip in that puppy. Great car.

Love to drop a ripped small block, LT-1 350 Z motor, into that thing and make B-Gasser out of it.
LT4, supercharged, prob have to put some tractor weights in the trunk
The F&F crowd down here in Hoodbridge would be like ‘What the fuck was that?’ ‘I dunno, but his taillights are getting closer together every second.’
with a 375 ci engine and 650 HP, the tires would be a dead giveaway that THAT Volvo may not be stock
because it would sublimate the stock size tires

‘Rainwater blowing all under my hood,
Knew it was doin’ my motor good.’
– Chuck Berry
My first car was a 1979 Chevy Nova. Huge and indestructible. My favorite car was a 1970 MGB, tiny and fragile as hell.
related to mine. in 1980, the Chevy Nova was cut up, lost 800 lbs, kept the same interior space, and called the Chevy Citation
I hit a beaver with the Fairmont once, ripped off the entire exhaust from the collector flange back. No converter, muffler, nothing. Ever heard a 2.3 liter Lima with no pipes? Had to drive it like that for about a month until I could afford to replace the exhaust. Ugly, slow, and loud. Chicks didn’t dig it. My girlfriend refused to ride in it until I fixed the exhaust. I was like 18. There’s a special place in my memory for the day I sold that thing to the scrapyard.
I dated a girl in HS who drove a muffler-less Nova. She was worth it.
There’s a muff joke in there somewhere.
That muff was no joke.
And my worst car was an old 1985 Mercury Topaz that I co-owed with a friend in college. Awful car.
I never understood why Steve Miller was ‘gonna buy me a Mercury.’
He wanted to cruise it up and down the road
That was Alan Jackson

Ah yes, the $175 sequential flasher turn signal. But a fine looking ride.
1967 Plymouth Belvedere II. Stalled out almost every time I took a right turn. Death trap.
Awesome ride, you’re crazy.
I learned to drive in part on an AAA driving school Ford Tempo (the same thing as a Topaz) manual transmission. Of course, they found the steepest reasonably close hill with a stop sign halfway up to school us. if you didn’t chirp or stall twice in a row, on to the next lesson.
So burnouts are good, then?
not sure a Tempo would “burn out”, given it was front drive and not much torque
If it had bologna skins on it?
There was a press release from the Redskins this afternoon, but it was only about the Redskins hosting some sort of Madden game championship, and I’m not going to waste my time doing a post for something that silly.
Colossal waste of time.
Dilly Dilly! Fuck that Silly!
What is the worst car you ever owned? Mine was a 1979 Ford Fairmont 4 door 4 cylinder sky blue.
I don’t remember what year but had a beater Mercury Capri… POS
O man. My condolences. Mine was a Buick Century wagon, had a bad hesitation. Carb related (yes, it had an f’n carburetor so yeah).
my first couple of cars were hand me downs, and my dad is a bit anal about taking care of his cars, so they were always tip top, even if none of them were particularly cool. my first was a V6 1980 Chevy Citation with the sport suspension, 5 door. if you needed it to be, it could be a little pickup. had crazy tiny sideways radio so you couldn’t replace it slot for slot with any after market stereo. I put a high powered Clarion in the glove box, and some pioneer composite speakers in the back. shook that back window pretty good.
First 3 cars were a Chevy Spectrum, Chevy Celebrity (2 door) and a Chevy Beretta.
They all pretty much sucked. At least the Celebrity had a V6 (albeit a small one).
Old slant 6 puke green NOVA , piece of shit . When it rained it leaked like hell . When you were driving it and you hit the brakes , all the water came rushing under your feet from the back and underneath the seat . Smelled like ass.
Well, considering you are an expert on the smell of ass, I will take your word for it.
It stunk like mildewed ass.
I don’t know what kinda kinky shit you’re into, but keep it to yourself.
A good friend of mine had one of those, in light green. Nicknamed it ‘Green Slime’.
Piece of shit but the motor was indestructible, Rev it up as high as you want and dump the clutch . I tried to fuck it up and couldn’t .
Yup, awesome inline 6. Run forever but the car around it fell apart, lol.
That’s the one .
They also had a tendency to run down the road a little cockeyed, but the tires wore fine and it wasn’t a ‘rabbit chaser’. Just weird following him down the road.
Chevy frames.
Fisher frames, until 1984 *body
Ah.
Had an ’83 3×3 1ton crew that was offset 2″ front to rear, tracked fine.
The rear suspension on mine went to hell, like the hips of an old German Shepherd.
The day after I got the suspension fixed, some kid in a tiny 87 mustang rear-ended me and half his front end was stuck under my trunk. If he’d hit me the day before, it’d have been a different story – I could roll over my own tailpipe in reverse if I didn’t rig it up to the back bumper with a coat hanger.
I’ve honestly never owned a crap car … sad to say it’s probably because I’ve never owned an American car.
Fair enough

What’s got a 1,500 horsepower Hellcat motor, twin high speed tank tracks, a racing harness and 16 inches of suspension travel? The utterly bonkers Ripsaw EV3-F1, a luxury sports tank that wheelies, drifts and flies through the air like a 7,700 pound two-stroke dirt bike. You’d have to see it to believe it.

Looks like an ’86 Conquest TSI.
Prolly runs like one too.
A friend had one in high school and despite the lag that most turbocharged motors had to them back then, that thing was peppy as hell and really got going at highway speeds.
“peppy” and “top end” are two different things.
I wasn’t talking top end and you can’t hit top end on any highway unless you are ready to be locked up.
Ok
I think you’re stuck in neutral.
Just’a waitin’ fer you to catch up!
Go long……keep goin’
I’s born on a green light, daddy’o
You could hit top end with a three speed, guaranteed.
Or a tractor
Or a lawnmower
Or a minibike
Or any god-damned thing if’ n you’re an outlaw, like me….. I’m an outlaw top end hitter. Done it a hundred times.
Highway 4, Nebraska… flat as a board, and you could take a slow car, peg it, run it till the vacuum tubes start to split, and slow back down again, and there is a solid chance you wouldn’t even see an oncoming car in the 5 or so miles it took you to ruin the motor.
ruined my first car that way, sadly

I love it when house minority leaders make a dog turd sundae.
Arizona will give up a 2nd and 3rd to move up to 13 for Mayfield.
Cross your fingers and book it!
Swap firsts and a fourth.
A 4th? Come on AZ. You’re not going to get competive in your division without a QB. A swap in the 1st plus this and next year’s 3rd.
You’re high
Jesus H tap-dancing Christ I hate how every ESPN mock has the Redskins taking Baker Mayfield.
it’s good smokescreen for what we want to do. I’d only hate it if we actually did it
I’d love the pick if Cousins is leaving.
I think JGruden can do a lot more with one of the QB’s down the draft chart.
If I won a million $.
I’d pay off the house, the car. Spend the rest at B&H photo on gear for the show so Steve and Jamual can finally have nice micraphones.
I’d also set up another spinoff podcast called Hail Hamsters.
Put that million away and take the roughly $50K a year in interest (any moron can get 5%) and pay those down without having to even dip into the original mil.
Good point.
Sorry Steve, you are stuck with that crummy mic a bit longer.
Paying off the interesting bearing debt potentially saves quite a bit more than the interest gained on a post-tax win. You also have to wait on all that interest to kick in.
FU keyboard. I did not type interesting.
^Nothinh you type is interesting!

^He’s being generous with that estimate.
-Mrs. Squinns
Woowee
^ Kirk?
All depends on the numbers of course but I feel like if you can devote 50k a year just to your debts and can’t knock out just about anything you have in 5 years (which is a lot less than 30) then yeah, get a planner. Just generalizing and should not assume most people are as responsible as I am. 🙂
Think of all that hippy lettuce
A different rally bowl for every quarter of the game. OT too!
Yes an extra 50 K a year could pay off everything really quick for most people, I’d imagine.
though, right now, if you can get 5% on interest that’s prob between 15 and 40% higher than a mortgage APR and should be 25 to 50% higher than an auto loan.
But yes, post tax, and if you didn’t take the annuity it would prob be significantly less than 500K. Just for psych reasons, I’d take that annuity if that option was given. $50K pre tax for the next 20 years would for about 14 years be a real nice bump, max out both or our IRAs and maybe help some pigmy children go to school.
I’d get Mrs kon that swimming pool she’s always bothering about.
In a marijuana friendly state, of course.
Yeah, like NPI said, invest. Unless you’re a pirate!

Somebody in Puerto Rico won 1 million on the Powerball, last night. I’d buy a 50kw generator for me and my neighbors, blow the rest on a sailboat, women and booze….
It’ll be spent on pigs and rum. Mostly rum.
Rum costs shit in PR, or the Caribbean, for that matter…. you’d die before you even made a dent in it. $12 half gallon approx.
You’re whiffing on how things go for lotto winners.
You too…Alex
There is no wiff.
Don’t spend money on a sailboat there now.
My friend is down there helping rebuild, he goes to the beaches and gets sailboats that washed ashore for free, fixes them up and uses them to go back and fourth from PR to the VI and Hati. Then he gives them to a local fisherman, finds a new one and does it again.
So I’ll pay him a fair fee to “find” me one.
Thanks for the hookup, just added 3 dozen women to my budget!
Finding is easy, just go to a beach and they will be there abandon. The hard part is helping fix it up. The guy I know used to build boats as a hobby so he knows what he’s doing.
I’ll be helping by paying and inspecting 🙂
From what I’ve read from his writing the hard part is finding beams to re-build masts.
We’ll make a trip down to Central America, it’ll be a party!
Just get in that boat and get the F to Miami.
So I just ran a Mock Draft in first-pick.
Here’s how they have picks 1-12 going:
1: CB MINKAH FITZPATRICK CLEVELAND BROWNS
2: RB SAQUON BARKLEY NEW YORK GIANTS
3: OT CONNOR WILLIAMS INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
4: QB BAKER MAYFIELD CLEVELAND BROWNS
5: QB JOSH ROSEN DENVER BRONCOS
6: QB SAM DARNOLD NEW YORK JETS
7: EDGE BRADLEY CHUBB TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
8: EDGE ARDEN KEY CHICAGO BEARS
9: OT ORLANDO BROWN SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
10: DL MAURICE HURST OAKLAND RAIDERS
11: LB ROQUON SMITH MIAMI DOLPHINS
12: G QUENTON NELSON CINCINNATI BENGALS
And here’s their top ranked guys they’ed have available for the skins at 13
@ QB, just gonna give the remaining guys they have listed in the top 32.
9 S DERWIN JAMES – FLORIDA STATE
12 EDGE HAROLD LANDRY – BOSTON COLLEGE
13 EDGE SAM HUBBARD – OHIO STATE
14 RB DERRIUS GUICE – LSU
15 WR COURTLAND SUTTON – SMU
16 OT MIKE MCGLINCHEY – NOTRE DAME
17 WR CALVIN RIDLEY – ALABAMA
18 QB LAMAR JACKSON – LOUISVILLE
19 DL VITA VEA – WASHINGTON
21 OT KOLTON MILLER – UCLA
22 CB JOSH JACKSON – IOWA
24 LB TREMAINE EDMUNDS – VIRGINIA TECH
25 CB JAIRE ALEXANDER – LOUISVILLE
26 S RONNIE HARRISON – ALABAMA
27 EDGE OGBONNIA OKORONKWO – OKLAHOMA
28 G BILLY PRICE – OHIO STATE
29 S MARCUS ALLEN – PENN STATE
30 CB ISAIAH OLIVER – COLORADO
31 EDGE DORANCE ARMSTRONG JR. – KANSAS
32 EDGE MARCUS DAVENPORT – UTSA
You take Derwin James and don’t look back. He’s a thicker version of Minkah Fitzpatrick, IMO. Little different styles, same big plays.
I think so to, everyone says you can get a first round DT in the 2nd round this year, so I’d do exactly that.
Right.
If we were picking somewheres around 19/20, boss hoss #49 hokie Tremaine Edmunds or D Armstrong would be my pick.
Da’Ron Payne
BPA@PON…Derwin James. Payne may be available in 2 rd
It’s impossible to make a selection without knowing the resolution of the Cousins issue.
If Cousins hasn’t shown his hand by March 6th, I’d have made my decision.
Frankly I’m not sold at all on getting a running QB, Lamar Jackson type. And the top 3 Qb’s are already gone.
My whole thing with Jackson is this; he does everything everyone says he can’t. Each obstacle peeps say he’ll never overcome, he overcomes. Comparison with Robert Griffin should be a jail-able offense.
Take a QB anyway.
Sure never stopped the Pats.
Here’s how my draft ended up. I would be doing back flips if the skins ended up with the top 4 guys on this list:
1: R1P13 S DERWIN JAMES FLORIDA STATE
2: R2P12 DL DERRICK NNADI FLORIDA STATE
3: R3P14 RB SONY MICHEL GEORGIA
4: R4P13 QB LUKE FALK WASHINGTON STATE
5: R5P12 LB SKAI MOORE SOUTH CAROLINA
6: R6P14 G KJ MALONE LSU
7: R7P13 WR TAVARES MARTIN WASHINGTON STATE
8: R7P23CB SEAN CHANDLER TEMPLE
13: R1P13S DERWIN JAMES FLORIDA STATE
51: R2P19RB MARK WALTON MIAMI
78: R3P14C FRANK RAGNOW ARKANSAS
82: R3P18QB MIKE WHITE WESTERN KENTUCKY
121: R4P19LB JOSEY JEWELL IOWA
151: R5P12DL B.J. HILL NORTH CAROLINA STATE
157: R5P18CB HOLTON HILL TEXAS
192: R6P14CB DARIOUS WILLIAMS UAB
232: R7P13WR CEDRICK WILSON BOISE STATE
242: R7P23LB NICK DELUCA NORTH DAKOTA STATE
Round 2 Pick 1 (CLE): Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State (A-)
Round 2 Pick 3 (CLE): Will Hernandez, OG, Texas-El Paso (B)
Round 2 Pick 12: Mark Andrews, TE, Oklahoma (B+)
Round 2 Pick 30 (CLE): Derrick Nnadi, DT, Florida State (A-)

So… a team of drug testers showed up at the Siberian Indoor Games last weekend, and some 36 athletes abruptly claimed they were sick and couldn’t compete.

Alex: nice rib recipe, thanks.
It’s nothing special. The one thing some people disagree about is the flash boil. But trust me, it works, tried with out it, and things just dry out too much.

I have found pork ribs are better when you order them from The Lucky Dragon instead of Hunan Garden.
Hunan Garden is faster, though.
Used to be a place on Mt. Pleasant St. called Kenny’s Barbecue that made great ribs. Wonder if they’re still there. Half a rack plus greens and coleslaw for like $11.
Hunan was great for underage drinking. All they needed for ID is cash.
And the House fried rice. Delish.
Mike White was at USF until Flowers won the job
Flowers is a dual threat, guy great for spread
White was more of a pure passer and transferred to WKU
Just watched some of White’s game against Memphis and he looks good! True pro style system, too. Rare to see a pocket passer like that in college these days.

They only get a new post on TI once a week or so.
Haven’t seen HokiesFan over here. Has anyone else?
Last I saw him he was banging your wife
Cool. He’s good dude. Can’t blame her.
There hasn’t been a new TI article since the 12th
Of October!
if you want to get old regulars from there over here, you’d have to post some sort of daily link to this site. a lot of people may have missed the migration.
Probably make more sense to wait until closer to the draft when TI will probably be more active.

I’m not fucking signing in, you do it.

Picking Josh Allen No. 1 would be classic Browns. I don’t think they will now that they have football pros running the team.
Tanner Lee
Blows
nobody is going to outshine him the rest of the way through this process, but I doubt he makes a Wentz type rise
Jk
it’s difficult to eval him because in camps he blew evaluators away, but both at Tulane and Nebraska he didn’t have the best teams around him, but for example, it was night and day when Stanley Morgan wasn’t hurt, so you put him on a Patriots, which, heh, lots of people have him pegged to because of fit (errr: he’s about as athletic as Tom Brady) and he might be really pretty above average.
As I’ve said, the smart moves for the Browns in my opinion would be grabbing Barkley or maybe a top defender at 1, and getting the QB at 4, because there are at least 2 great QBs in the draft and odds are only 1 gets picked before 4th.
If they don’t act crazy they can hardly avoid getting a good QB and VG defender, whichever order they take them.
That said. If someone offers them a ransom for the #1 pick, you have to think about it.
yep grab Chubb or Barkely and get QB with 4th pick
That’s what I’d do, you lock up a young backfield with talent potential.
Flounder, et al – do you ever cook/eat beef ribs? Are pork ribs better tasting? I imagine they are given texture and natural flavors with pork. If cooking beef ribs any recommendations for tenderness?
I do pork ribs I prefer the Memphis cut to baby backs they have more meat. Cook them low and slow for tenderness.
You can’t rush Ribs
You ever peel of that thin layer of fat or skin of the back before you cook them
Yeah you don’t have to do that but I do it.
Yeah , I started doing that this summer and it seemed to make them more tender .
Yeah sure does.
thanks fellas
I’ve done beef ribs a little, though am mostly a pork guy. I think beef ribs are better off braised in the oven. Frankly Beef Ribs are a disappointment most the time.
Agreed. Beef ribs in oven or crock; pork on grill/smoker (pre-bake in oven wrapped in foil if you wish).
The way I do my pork ribs.
1. clean them, remove the clear film off the back (my wife calls it silver, I dunno)
2. Boil for about 30 seconds, this will keep the juices inside through out the cooking process, but still allows smoke and seasoning to add a lot of flavor.
3. Apply liberal amounts of dry rub of your choice, let sit overnight in fridge.
4. bright and early start smoking, I don’t have a smoker but use a Weber Kettle set up for indirect heat. Add tons of wood/wood chips early in the process you want a heavy smoke and they say the first 30 minutes is the most important. I usually cook mine for 5 hours, trying to keep temps at around 200 to 225.
beef ribs are better in the oven than the grill
season well with dry rub type seasoning
bake on 350 for about 30 minutes
cover with BBQ sauce and tightly seal with foil
put oven on 250 cook for 2 to 2.5 hours until they are falling off bone
Not sure what it is about beef ribs that works better in the oven, but it does.
Rib…eye
That is all.

Statement by Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett on Decision by Amazon to Include Montgomery County, Maryland Among the Finalists for Their New Second Headquarters
For Immediate Release: Thursday, January 18, 2018
“I am extremely pleased and proud that Amazon selected Montgomery County, Md. to enter into future discussions regarding locating their second headquarters. I want to thank Governor Hogan and his entire team for their strong support in helping to create a compelling case for the County.
“As the only County in the country on the short list, having the ability to move forward for further consideration is a real honor. I believe our initial proposal made an extremely strong case for Montgomery County as a great place do business, and I look forward to working with Amazon to bring jobs and investment to the County.”

You have ANKLEPANTS right now, don’t you?
they chose Montgomery county? Shit I may have to move back home…

I’m like an idea factory
The Wizards allowed the Suck ass Charlotte Bobcats to score 77 points in the first half last night and proceeded to lose by 24 points. These were all records for one of the worst teams in the league. The Wizards front court who make more than most small countries combined for 8 points. What a fucking joke.
Root for the Heat. Got a collection of nobodies beating much more talented rosters.
I’m shocked that years of not drafting and spending big money on aging centers and forwards isn’t working.

I thought Eagles mode was extra loud and kinda racist ring tones.

clever, but “eagles mode” appears to be beat the redskins twice in the regular season and be one of the last 4 teams standing.
sorry…. i’m a little bitter… (about the last 25 years.)
No?!
did not know this – about the 3 way rotation
Washington and Green Bay finished with identical records and strengths of schedule, and are in different divisions in the same conference, so their order was determined by their records against their common conference opponents (Dallas, Minnesota, New Orleans, and Seattle). Because Washington went 1–4 against those teams while Green Bay went 2–3, Washington will pick first in round one. Cincinnati, Washington, and Green Bay will then rotate picking 12th, 13th, and 14th in each round.
Yeah, first-pick is showing that.
NFL keeps rejecting my idea to resolve said ties with owners going into 3 way boxing matches
Yeah, we sucked more than those other teams!
Yeah we have had this in the past with the rotation.
We get 12th in round one? It’s only fair……right?
no we got 13th in 1st
Yeah, robbery!
FWIW I do think Doc may be right, that Gruden is a coach who’s good enough to start churning out decent QB’s and we just get a new starter every 3-4 seasons. If we became a team that does that, I’m fine with it.
Doc is the man.
He is the official nickname-giver.
Agreed. I met him in Denver at a Redskins Rally bout 4 years ago.
Damn. Time is flying. I should get back to my 4 hour online class: ‘Buying Within Your Budget’

Bummed about Hurst and Miller not being there.
Kiper has us taking Baker Mayfield at 13. If Kirk walks obviously if not he said ILB is our biggest need.

terry bradshaw?
Yes walter.
Terry Bradshaw.
did teddy bridgewater change to #12?
Kiper just released his first draft but you have to be an ESPN insider to see it.
Hard to believe people still, let alone ever did pay for that.
He has the Skins taking Baker Mayfield.
Last year, he nailed ~3 of the first 32.
Yeah I could do that fro free LOL

Good podcast. Like Doc Walker’s commentary.
We are always excited to get someone like Doc on the show. We took a break from getting interviews in the season, it’s too busy then.
Proposed Project for the Hog Sty Project tab
Maybe a mock draft tracker on who some of the major sites have us drafting at #13
maybe Walter Football, Draft Wire, CBSSports, B/R, Kiper, etc
Isn’t there a website that does all that already? All you have to do is check the Skins lines?
Walter Football tracks if you send it to him
he has 171 mocks with links listed
only shows top 5 picks
i do not!
14, right? aren’t we drafting #14?
one site did say #14 but I think they are confused

” it’s kind of a sad state if you are counting on taxes from pot and prostitution to get your books in order.”
A relatively middle sized population in Colorado had generated over $500 million state revenue from taxing marijuana as of July 2017.
That ain’t hay.
Marijuana and prostitution taxes raised by residents coupled with the state’s insane tourism numbers (quarter billion visits annually)….that’s going to be a shit-ton of money.
I don’t disagree that it’s a litshoad… but that wasn’t really my point.
Revenue is revenue.
There is no moral application. We only call these things sin taxes because there’s still way too many god damn prudes around.
I’m not going to get into an argument about morality here on this blog.
See there, it’s happening again. “Who will flip our burgers and digs our ditches” the ruling class needs serfs. The government needs bloated programs. Look into this silver thingy, everything is groovy.
Leave those jobs for the immig…. oh wait
I repeat, Star Trek is fake.
When I was a college professor, I taught a class in Personal Finance, about budgets, investments, insurance, mortgages, etc. I argued with administration that every student should have the course, to assist themselves in the lifetime financial decisions they would face. That concept was never considered.
Amen, in highschool. But then who flips our burgers and digs our ditches?
[insert incredibly racist remark here]
This is not the United Federation of Planets…….
Then why does it say it is on my credit card???
(I bank with NASA and they have star trek them credit cards)
Meet me at the border at midnight, we’ll divvy up then.
agreed. but it should be in high school. and required.
Only thing they did in HS for me was Jr and Sr year we had to fill out our taxes, 1040-EZ’s, in class
And I do recall a middle school project where they gave everyone kid a “family” and “salary”, picking each randomly out of a hat. You then had to figure out where you can live and a monthly budget. Mine was hard, single parent with 1 kid, and $25,000 a year. Most people got to pick something in the married 2 incomes line of stuff.
I would have no problem with teaching it in high school. My concern would be if all the schools would be able to get a qualified teacher, someone who does a personal budget and is qualified to teach the basics of investments.
There are plenty of qualified teachers, but I have seen too many situations where a school forces an unqualified teacher to teach a class they are not qualified to teach.
I think most HS have business classes, heck I remember taking one as a frosh. And as a Sr. they just were not required.
to me, I’d do away with foreign language requirements for HS and college and require some basic business and maybe allow someone to sub in programming or whatever. so maybe you take 2 coding classes and a basic business and finance class instead of three years of French.
Wee Wee, Mike
Nein. Deutsche. und est bin sehr schleckt.
waste of time except for the handful of blonde chicks that were dimes.
I have always thought this. Folks go into college thinking debt is just a way of life. It doesn’t have to be.
And meanwhile, debt is great if it’s worth the opportunity cost. But that’s not how most people use it.
Very true, JS. Debt is very abused. People think having a mortgage deduction is wonderful. But too many people get stuck with way too much debt and are forced to file for bankruptcy protection.
Should really be HS course on life skills
also include managing career, stupid things not to say to the police when the pull you over, etc.
LOL
Interviewing, resumes, how to tie a tie, how to properly shake hands, how to look people in the eye…
Saw an episode of cops. The man that got pulled over said to cop was: What did I do “your honorfficer.” Dude was DWI.
This type of thing is making its way into high schools, actually.
Sadly, a lot of urban kids won’t listen to absolutely anything you say about the Police. They just hate them and think they are evil and you should say nothing kind or respectful to them ever, or you’re a snake/snitch/whatever.
They don’t want the general population having a firm grasp of compounded interest.
Anyone seeking, or teaching that information…is rounded up and, never heard from again.
At least there’s k0n
I taught it for 25 years. My students learned the value of investing early in an IRA, and using the time value of money to allow the fund to grow.
You are but one.
Yes, Suzy Orman and me. 🙂
Most taxpayer don’t have enough intelligence, desire or aptitude to decide what programs are important, need funding adjusted or be run by the government or outsourced
FL is a great example of that
one example:
Scott cut taxes, budgets and eliminated programs
now we’re back to the 1970’s when the state has big issues with water
and the same people who voted for Scott and were happy when he cut stuff
are now complaining about water rates going up
why their golf course can’t water every day so the grass is brown
why the rivers and springs don;t have fishing like they did before
Plus the reason Florida is even a thing, Phosphate. Sink holes, ect.
That water is ours. We bribed, err, paid for it fair and square.
-Florida Sugar cartell
We like to fish – Choby
Hell, most politicians don’t enough intelligence to make those judgments.
Classic example would be Rick Perry. Dude campaigned on the idea that we should shutter the entire department of energy. Then he gets named to run the department of energy and he discovers that … hey … they actually do some useful stuff.
Everyone now knows how to fill out an online profile or questionnaire (maybe not Flounder). I like the idea of listing 100 government funding measures and asking taxpaying citizens to select 15 or so and then tally that all up at the end.
Things like police, hospitals, schools, waste management etc. will all get the funding they deserve and pork bullshit programs that charge a few hundred grand to build a turtle crossing get dropped and never get any consideration.
I’m all for the ideas of using tech to allow for more direct democracy initiatives like that.
At the same time you can also make an argument that we’ve got computer algorithms that are advanced to a point now where we can do projections on how every policy will impact the economy and society. I’ve seen a number of them used over the years.
You could make the argument that by turning every decision over to the computer algorithms could make more sound policy decisions than the general public or an elected official.
No way dude because you cannot compute the organic ripple effects that we know would/should occur but cannot be accounted for by some mathematical formula.
We are people, not software.
Besides, the algorithms are written by people and you can’t possibly believe those math equations can’t be tweaked to favor one side or the other.
Never. Gonna. Happen.
the one thing about pure democracy that should scare you about that model: Twitter
and our current systems lives so in fear of re-election that it kind of mimics the pure democracy in that it lacks leadership and control, so each side gets to move it’s initiatives a little bit, but the other side won’t let them pay for it, and thus, as example, it would be worse. I think what you see rather than some magic social markets that regulated themselves well, you’d see the end of empire. the markets work somewhat with stocks because it is their own money. it’s really easy to argue that the government should provide this or that because this or that has now become a “right.”
direct democracy is a horrible idea.
the masses are stupid.
I make way more as a federal contractor than I ever could as a Government employee, but I don’t get the pension or Government benefits.
that was they way the system evolved
It was the benefits, leave, and retirement package that kept me around for 33 years.
The other thing is, you can point to the man/woman who lived nicely off their pension for 25 yrs., but there are others who bite the dust 2 yrs. after they retir. The government gets a bargain on those workers.
Probably not a high percentage
We the taxpayers get a bargain when someone dies early? Weird way to view it dude
WHAT A BARGAIN!
-Eddie Murphy
Natural law.
There is no doubt ‘smarter’ things one can do with their money than a pension, but it’s safe and consistent.
Many people value safe and consistency. It’s a recruiting tool and as much as I like to pan the government in certain areas, I g’ that they’ve done the math on it. You can probably give someone 150K package with safe benefits, where the competition that does not provide those has a package that actually pays more but is safer for the business. they’d rather be done with you when you are gone. the government is always going to be around (theoretically). But the private sector competition are oil companies, big A&E firms, law firms, etc. Not McDonald’s or Jim Bob’s Janitorial service. It just isn’t what many people imagine. And the gov competes with itself on contracts. You think NASA or Interior are getting the best scientists or engineers on with different contracts when those same contractors have contracts with some DoD entity? Whomever can afford the higher hourly rate gets the best people’s time even though it’s the same company. So what the private sector competition is for Fed salaries is a bit murky because it isn’t even an independent variable.
I will say that I would much prefer the plan that my wife, who worked for a private university got than the 1/3rd (approx) pension the gov now offers (and has since the 1980s, it’s not a full pension anymore and hasn’t been for decades). and the reason for that is while maybe the math was similar the greater match 401K type arrangement is actually “portable” to other jobs (assuming the competition pays similar benefits) while the pension is not. locked in. once you’re mid career it’s a ***** to decide to leave if your job has become a dead end
Saw something this morning pointed out on a replay of Bortles scrambling to his left, taking off and running and pointing to a defender for TJ Yeldon to pick up. Yeldon threw a block flooring the defender and in the super slow-mo, you could see Bortles start laughing in the middle of his run after Yeldon decked a defender.
lol

Bortles isn’t a great passer, but he’s tougher than one might think, for sure.
With a name like Blake Bortles you gotta be tough to make it through middle and high school. Not unlike a man names Sue

Nice job, Alex, getting Doc on the show. Very cool stuff.
What did Doc say about QB? (Can’t listen at work.)
Well Steve gets the credit for getting doc to agree to come on. I just called his cell phone.
He said a few things.
1. he wouldn’t overpay for kirk because you need to build the rest of the roster.
2. he belives that this team could become a QB factory under Gruden, constatnly drafting and finding kids to coach up.
3. Said Doug’s been scouting QB’s hard.
Thanks, Alex.
That’s the sense I got from Gruden’s comments–that he feels he can plug someone in and coach them up. I hope he’s right.
Not to get into a gov vs. private sector debate or liberal vs. conservative…
…but…
California just claimed it has a budget surplus…
…but didn’t factor in unfunded pension liability… which is more than YUGE
…and…
included an estimate of the receipt for the new gas tax they just passed… which is more than likely to get on the next ballot and be overturned.
Whoops
I’m all on board the New California train. I might actually be willing to move to New California.
I’m getting the fuck out of here before the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.

You guys are all too DC-centric. There’s dramatically more money and benefits in the private sector if you have the education and skillset to find it.
Private company gets its contracts through government. AKA….tax payer funded.
greg,
i guess it just sailed right over your head, but i mentioned my mom’s pension benefits as kind of an example of government largess. yes, it was all in all the contracts dad signed and all that, so they deserved it. but, dayum, that’s a lot of money to give a dead employee’s wife.
It’s what your dad bargained for. My in-laws are both former gov. workers — he with the federal gov. and she with the VA school system. They both have very nice pensions are living very comfortably. BUT … if they had worked in the private sector their whole careers they would have made a lot more money than they did working for the government.
So private schools pay more than public
When and where?
That I couldn’t tell you. But my mother-in-law has a masters in education and a PhD in mathematics. There are a lot of things she could have done in the private sector.
How are you btw?
Doing good today, 65. Thanks for askin’.
Glad to hear it.
My wife has the same
Public sector is infinitely better paying
That’s my point
Either make pensions self sustaining or get rid of them
They can’t exist as a pox on society only to benefit very few
RE: Noone’s federal employee post.
The conversation is always generalized to avoid focus on bullshit programs, which, is the real problem.
yes
but even outsourcing has issues
niece is a social worker
used to work for state of FL
FL outsourced social work
got rif’ed and rehired by outsourcers
case load got doubled because the winning bid allows for only hiring half the previous staff
state saved lots of money
then kids start dying or go missing because the workloads are so high the workers cannot keep up
but hey we got rid of those pesky government workers
A similar situation is state prison competing with private prison for federal money based on head count.
yes is FL the private prison guys have basically be found to be torturing prisoners
like spraying people with scalding hot water and even killing a couple
State does this as well, just with more “eyes on them”. In your state, FDLE investigates incidents within your department of corrections. The Private prisons have an added buffer of protection against civil rights violations.
taxpayers have to decide how much to pay, and for which programs
To a point. Some people need assistance, fact.
Yes cause a 4 year child can advocate for themselves
esp. when the parents are non-functioning drug addicts
and taxpayers only concern is to pay less in taxes
It’s political, which is why focus is always over here and there.
you could fire all the civilian gov workforce and remove all of the civilian depts agencies etc, and it would only reduce the budget by about 16-18%.
only??? how many billions is that. You sound like Pelosi telling the masses $1,000 is “crumbs.”
nothing would be saved because 100% of the remaining 80% would be wasted because nobody was left to mind the store
lol
You could get rid of everything in the government but military and entitlements and you’d save 18% is what I’m saying. the actual amount is important in some sense, but proportionally it would be crumbs. and, because of what is gone, you might actually have a net negative return on that because much of what the military spends is not spent here, and entitlements are liabilities. But many of the civilian agencies have a net return. because they create jobs and innovation. NASA, NIH, NSF, … gone. Universities shuttered. Graduate programs gone. Medical, farm, small business programs all gone. College towns and rural areas devastated economically. And regulation provides jobs by slicing off what industries “take from the public” and requiring them to pay for those externalizes. So long as that public cost is real and justified and within reason, that means many white collar jobs are created out of thin air, that would have otherwise likely gone to business profits that did not account for their full cost of production. Now that doesn’t mean the gov should not re-engineer, optimize, and properly sunset projects and programs when they aren’t needed. I’m just saying, the haterade often isn’t justified. Most federal employees are highly educated, especially in the DMV, nowadays almost certainly with graduate degrees or otherwise professional training and accreditation.
Generally most people have no idea what’s working effectively and what isn’t. I’ve found most people only want to cut the things they don’t understand, because most people are in fact stupid.
In the 3 government agencies sure I’ve worked for I could tell you a handful of things that could be cut from each of them, just from the people I’ve interacted with information I’ve gathered listening. But does anyone care or listen if I say “this department of 8 people could be cut to 1 job”? No.
Well……..if you’ve ever been in the system, and don’t eat laundry detergent…….first hand.
I’m just saying, if you really wanted to clean up the wast, it would take a highly competent and knowledgeable administration hiring secretaries from within every department that have spent long careers in that department, (not outsiders) and know what the problems are. And a solid direction to do things like turn 8 jobs into 1. Then if you had it all set up, you would need to get the unions on board with a plan.
Minimum of 12 years probably to do it right.
demise of pensions has created a whole new class of poor people who will be an even bigger drain on society long term than the short term savings are worth
the people who saved money was private companies and their bottom lines
The demise of pensions helped the country not go bankrupt
I can use the same argument you did
Companies did not manage their obligations and properly manage cash flows to account for their growing obligations
Difference is unlike GM and Delta etc. who reduce or eliminate their pensions when they can no longer support them, the Government just keeps siphoning more and more from the taxpayers.
Bingo
I’m very comfortable in saying that I earned my meager pension to which I’m entitled after more than 20 years of uniformed military service, including in some bad places.
That’s where I’m at.
Yes you are.
‘demise of pensions has created a whole new class of poor people who will be an even bigger drain on society long term than the short term savings are worth’

I actually did have a followup to this point in mind, but the conversation immediately went in another direction.
HA!
Yes steering conversations back to a topic can be hard sometimes….
What is a “topic”?
Doc is a real piece of work! That was more of a rambling speech than an interview. No way you could get him going in another direction. But it was fascinating.
I’d rather fund a pension than to see the elderly discarded due to the costs of assisted living.
$500+ a day. That’s per day.
Just take me out back, Old Yeller style.
Put me in a recliner. Give me a bag of chips and bong rips till I drop.
I’d rather people were responsible for themselves and not reliant on the government
But people are too stupid to live their lives without the government providing for them and exerting control over many aspects of their lives.
– Dems
Wouldn’t we all? But in reality the economy doesn’t support enough good paying jobs to allow everyone to save for retirement, and a free market economy never will.
I’m able to save
Everyone should be able to save
Enough excuses
Use your brain, Greg. The economy requires low paying jobs. People in those jobs are never going to be able to pay their bills AND put away enough money to carry them through old age. What do we do about that?
I’ve worked and paid taxes since I was 14
People should follow suit
I had a paper route when I was 14. Man 5 dolla a day was killer for me.
You think poor people don’t work? Some people work 2 jobs for 40 years and still don’t make close to enough to retire. They can barely pay their bills. Ideally pensions wouldn’t be needed, but wages are so low in many industries that it wouldn’t matter how long or hard someone works they are never going to be able to retire.
That’s great, but it doesn’t answer the question. Our society can’t exist without the low end of the pay scale. If people didn’t exist to fill those jobs we’d have to import them. And of course we don’t want that!
That is a fallacy. They can pay their bills and save. They just have to be prudent about what they spend their money on.
The federal employees are costing us too much money is one of the oldest and most debunked fallacies of modern times
looking at my Dad as an example his office of about 12 people cost the taxpayers about $2M a year
but they managed about $350M+ worth of contracts each year
everyone except my Dad had advanced degrees (master’s or PHD’s)
so yes they made more than an average American but they were better educated and scope of responsibility was way larger than the average American also
most of the time when a job is outsourced it ends up costing the American taxpayer more in the short term
the issue usually is in the long term debt obligation for retirement, that is where the cost savings is
it’s like seeing the tip of the iceberg and using that for a comparison
The biggest saving are shutting down programs that do not meet their objectives or can be delivered at lower costs through other means
but you would need to have politicians that are not self serving who can see the bigger picture, not just doing turf protection
A micro example is the social services administration of any given state.
like how some programs such as welfare are now viewed as entitlements and a way of life as to how to avoid really doing any valuable work for society
Social workers with large caseloads have job security, nevermind if benefits are going to qualifying individuals. Fail on the management level.
a lot of social work is also outsourced now
But the overhead remains. Think of your cost reduction by weeding out the pimps and fat lazy baby machines. Bill Clinton even tried to address that.
Helping people is one thing, helping yourself by exploiting government programs is something entirely different. This includes law enforcement, BATF, ect.
Not sure if you guys picked up on this story, but apparently at the end of the Vikings-Saints game, it was hard to find enough Saints to take the field for the Vikings final extra point, given the way the game ended.
One of the players who manned up and got down in a 3-point stance on the line, holding his ribs in place with his free arm – he tore the cartilage in his rib cage in the first quarter – was the Saints injured PUNTER, Thomas Morstead.
Vikings fans were so blown away by this display of grit and toughness that they decided to challenge each other to start raising money for Morstead’s charity foundation, which he uses to help various causes. Morstead announced on Tuesday that all of the money that gets donated from Vikings fans will go to the Children’s Minnesota Child Life program, and that if the amount exceeded $100k, he’d fly up there and deliver the check personally.
Thus far, donations have exceeded $150k.
Pretty cool. The NFL making them even do the extra point was stupid and only for gambling purposes.
The Saints could score a safety on an extra point attempt.
Yeah and they still would have lost.
Plus they did a kneel down.
The point is there are more reasons to complete a scoring play which includes the PAT than just gambling.
That’s a great story! Don’t tell a punter he’s not a real football player.
Here’s an area we should be able to “trim the fat”
In 2014, the average federal employee salary was $84,153, approximately 50% more than the average private sector worker earned. This discrepancy increases to 78% when benefits are included. The average federal worker costs the government (aka taxpayers) $119,934.Dec 21, 2015
There are 2.8 million employees btw. The salaries have gone up of course since 2014.
Private contractors cost way more per year. And the fact is every time they have got rid of federal employees they end up replacing them with contractors.
At a former job of mine, they were charging $44,000 a month for 2 employees. My salary at the time was $40,000 a year.
So if his data is correct, you were below average?
His salary was
It was a JOKE!
The Government was paying 2x the average for me to be payed below average.
To the company, if they pay their employees less…. it’s still cost.
Federal employees earn way more than their private sector counter part. It’s a fact.
He’s speaking of the contractor companies, not employees.
Depends on the job. The lowest paid GS salary is around $19 K the max is around $135 K.
What’s happened that I’ve seen from inside the government is a lot of people have stayed in because of the recession & the hiring freezes, so there are a lot more top heavy salaries for guys who should be retiring but aren’t.
The Government saves money on contractors because they don;t have to pay for any of there benefits or insurance.
Vice News disagrees
Well there stupid
Ikr!
Facepalm
^ LOL
🙂
They still pay for the insurance, that’s all still charged to the government in the contract, as are their 401K’s. The difference is you are giving money for 401 K’s in contractor companies or for pensions in fed employees.
Either way the government still pays for it. It’s lose/lose for the taxpayer. The 80’s & 90’s were all about “smaller government” yet that’s when the government’s deficit went out of control
Hello! Remember when I balanced the budget and had a surplus?
_Bill Clinton
the number of Federal employees has steadily declined, even when Obama was POTUS
wrong
The number of federal employees has risen under President Obama. There were 2,790,000 federal workers in January 2009 when the president took office, and now there are 2,804,000 workers.Sep 10, 2012
The government under Obama started to put the pinch on what contractors bill for their services. There is still a ton of meat on the bone for companies like mine where we operate as a sub. We have literally hired govies who leave work on a Friday, come back Monday to the same office with the same job only they work for us and make about 25-45% more than they made working for the government. Even then, we are still able to bill them out at almost double that rate.
If you can get a hold of a government contract, you are printing money my friend; printing money.
If I can do it, anyone can. Trust me on that.
…and we all pay for that ridiculously inflated rate. wasteful
damn, that should be illegal. Violation of federal regulations. oh, wait, it is.
I don’t know the answer, but this is a bit simplistic. According to FactCheck.org
Federal civilian workers are more educated.
The federal government has a higher proportion of white-collar jobs.
“Lower-skilled (and lower-paid) positions have been contracted out to private industries” in recent years, raising the average pay of federal civilian employees.
Federal civilian workers receive better pension and health insurance benefits on average than private-sector employees,
some of whom receive no benefits.
You’d have to go sector by sector to figure out comparable pay.
I knew this would be a sore subject for some of y’all, given you may work for the Government, ie; me and all of us, but it is what it is.
It’s not a sore subject, but you can’t just look at an average number when the two workforces are constituted differently. It would be like saying that engineers are paid more highly than landscape workers, so the engineers are obviously overpayed.
All Federal employees are factored in, so the landscapers etc that are federally employed are represented too.
Sure, but that doesn’t answer the proportionality question. On average federal gov. jobs are higher level than average private sector jobs.
Fair point. I still think the salaries /benefits are too high and I wonder what most Americans across the heartland(Who are all paying for this) feel.
if you took a single-income family from the DMV who was a Federal employee who made 100-125K who did not live in the BFE exurbs, and compared their house to the “heartland” person who was a single-income family white collar worker with similar education and background, they would drive nicer cars and have a nicer house.
some of the Federal pay issue is the fact that most of the jobs are in major cities.
Boston, New York, Philly, DC, Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas City, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago,
Why does that DMV cost problem become my problem? The excessive costs there are, in part, due to the ridiculous high salaries of government workers. Also, they are recession proof. It all is tied together. Move those jobs elsewhere. No reason with todays technology, that many if not most federal white collar jobs couldn’t be performed outside the dmv.
Fun Fact. Most government workers are not in DC. I think it’s something like 20% of fed employees. 80% are spread across the country.
that’s a good start, lets’s make that 100% elsewhere. Also, of that 20% in DC, I’d venture a guess that they represent a large % of the very high salaries. Just a wag.
When I googled it, it’s 14% of the jobs in DC. I’m sure it is a chunk, and then you have contractor jobs that need to be factored in.
those people are not federal employees. they’d be contracts
there are probably almost no jobs where a Federal Employee would transfer to (say they were fired or RIF’ed) the private sector and get no benefits. you almost can’t even get a Federal job nowadays without a graduate degree, not that it is required, but your resume won’t even make it through the resume warehouse. (It won’t score high enough for the hiring managers to see it)
anyone you see at a Federal job working a blue collar job is a contractor. doesn’t matter if it’s moving yellow iron or janitorial work. some exceptions might include the Postal Service and non-civilian military (low paying military) but even then.
ok
Blogging for the government has paid SENoVaMike well!
Yes even the military farms out their low end stuff now to contractors. Go look up how much they paid a contractor just for people to do laundry in Iraq.
In military parlance, they’re known as “TCNs” or “third country nationals,” but they might as well be called third-world nationals. Most of the cheap U.S. labor in Iraq comes from places like India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Philippines and India. The average wage for these workers is about $20 a day; most work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week.
I used to work for the gov and the pay sucked. Educated I am not, so that must be the reason.
Depends on what you consider “educated”.
Jack of all trades; master of none. But at least I’m retired with a some money coming in to do the things I like to do–blow a shit ton of money at Snyder’s FedEx field twice a year. Lol
Get rid of the pension
Probably the only sector that still has it, not counting the railroad.
And when the other sectors got rid of it, they all went from middle class to broke as ass.
Should we all as a nation pay that pension? I think it’s a valid question.
And I think my answer is no less valid. The transition from a pension system to a stock market based retirement plan like 401K’s, along with generally underpaying workers, as a common practice in private industry has resulted in the weakening of the middle class and the dramatic rise of income inequality in the last 20 years.
but SHOULD we pay for that? I wonder what most Americans would say?
I should be responsible for my ability to retire
Apply that same principle to everyone
Your chosen job should not necessitate you get retirement assistance
The average American is able to save 172,000 for retirement, the way the economy works right now, most people can’t afford to save money anymore. It’s a sad fact of how weak our country has become financially.
the middle class moved up while the much of the middle class did not move with it
but the fact is, globally, not all the 7 billion people are going with us, so to speak
that is an illusion. natural selection is as real as ever. for a time here and there, there will be winners that tag along, but generations later they will be sloughed off
productivity and technology and nature demand it. and this time, no peasant uprising can slow it down (never stopped it, no matter the perception) because the peasants are increasingly no longer needed by the socially, intellectually, productivity, entrepreneurial, royal, etc., elites. and democracy/socialism in this context for an uprising is unsustainable. a thousand years from now nobody will remember the lessers that had their ancestral lines die out en masse in the Star Trekian future
Hey ho! ESOP!
Naw, urban myth
my mom, gosh rest her imaginary soul, got $60k per year for 22 years after my father died. he rose pretty high up in the state department and so forth, but, dayum! that’s sweet deal.
i’m pushing my daughter to a government job. the benefits are awesome.
Pensions are a Ponzi scheme and you’re only for it because it benefited you
Shame on you
Pensions used to be commonplace, even in the private sector, and their demise is a massive problem for this country.
Again pensions are Ponzi schemes
The demise is helping the government avoid crippling debt
“shame on me”?!?! fo. that was my dad and mom doing what was logical given the circumstances.
You can spell it out here in the free world.
Your mom got sixty grand per year for 22 years
Who do you think paid for that
greg,
you. me. my dad. my mom. americans. i guess we/they were paying for the years of risking his life, being tortured in baghdad, being considered “expendable”, whatever.
He chose to do that
I should not have to pay for his retirement
the pension is based on how long you worked, but it’s not what you think it is, ostensibly it is about a 1/3rd pension, and the tradeoff is less match on the “401K” than what the private sector offers
Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall thinks Elway will look to free agency again this offseason to address a position that hasn’t adequately replaced Manning since his retirement following Super Bowl 5o.
“In my opinion, we already drafted a quarterback, first round a couple years ago (Paxton Lynch), so we’ve tried that,” Marshall said on the NFL Network, via Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post. “I think he’s going to get a free agent quarterback. I think he’s going to go spend some money and fix the position, because it’s kind of a toss-up with these rookie quarterbacks. You never know. But the only thing about getting a free agent quarterback is some guys will have to go. I hope everybody gets to stay, but that’s just the business.”
Marshall even had a specific free agent quarterback in mind.
“I mean, there’s a couple guys out there,” Marshall said. “You know. We played against a guy in Week 16 that was pretty good. There’s a couple guys out there.”
That quarterback was Kirk Cousins of the Washington Redskins, who is set to be a free agent in March. Cousins passes for 299 yards and three touchdowns in that December game against the Broncos.
If I were Kurt, Denver would be the team I’d want to go play for.
there is no reason but dollars for him to sign here. and, he already has dollars. denver would be great for him. and denver would be lucky/skillful to have him.
Yeah Denver has cap issues that will only get worse a terrible o-line and an aging expensive defense. They also just fired there HC’s entire staff.
they could replace Talib with a 1st round draft pick and be fine (cap wise)
But I’m sure Kirk will have them in the SB
betcha $35 mil blog dollars he would sign for less to play in denver than he would need to play here.
I bet he will take the highest offer he gets and I could care less if he signs here. He is a good QB who will never be great not worth that much money.
how much less could you care?
I have a new stalker today.
When you lose as many games as Denver did you have more issues than just QB.
If Amazon moves to the DC Metro area, people need to be prepared to see the worst traffic situation in the country get even worse, unless Amazon is gonna pony up for an infrastructure overhaul… which would take time.
Only if EZPass runs through me…. – Bezos
It can’t get worse it’s already terrible, not for me though get in early and out early.
Mark my words 😛
I get to work at 5:30 there is no traffic I leave work at 1:30PM there is no traffic.
I hop on a metro bus 1 block from my house 35-45 minutes later I can get out 1 block from my office downtown. It’s great.
Yeah it’s great until it runs off the track or you get shot or stabbed.
Bus’s don’t run on tracks. And you’re as likely to get shot in a road rage accident around here.
exactly, flounder. traffic is so bad, you have to arrive at work at 5:30.
No I have to arrive at 5:30 because that’s when we start.
We go to Flounder’s office: https://images.techhive.com/images/idge/imported/imageapi/2014/05/slide_image_072913_beanie12-100295064-gallery.idge.gif
Probably not why he gets there at 5:30….
“can’t get worse”?
because it’s bad it can’t get worse?!?! hahhahahahahaha logic is not your thing, obviously.
Yeah it’s bumper to bumper everyday that can’t really get worse.
If you currently sit in bumper to bumper traffic for 20 minutes, sitting in the same traffic for 60 minutes is worse.
The traffic is still tolerable as long as you avoid Virginia.
99% of DC traffic problems are on the south side of the Potomac. In the city the problems are metro related. Marylanders just don’t know how to drive.
Ha! – Chevy Chase
The comedian?
No, the rollercoaster
I remember him.

Just move to DC. That way, no matter which way you leave DC you are going against traffic.
And take Ubers everywhere that way you can be drunk.
Bingo.

I like being represented in congress
If that actually has any bearing on why you would or would not live in DC that would make you quite dumb.
Amazon even in VA would be located right on or near one of the Silver Line stops, and the greater Tyson’s Corner vision is to completely revamp that area into a city center that would dwarf DC’s major centers and serve the Amazon campus (likely). Yes, there would be problems, but the assumption is that the hipster Amazon employee isn’t going to live in DC or BFE MD or VA, they’d live in whatever hipster towncenter(s) that popped up and ramped up in the Loudoun/West-North Fairfax area.
Keep in mind, that Amazon, their full 50,000 jobs wouldn’t even accomplish the vision for TC. I believe that vision is 200,000 jobs (the Amazon proposal isn’t in TC, but as example)
Super educated DAMN analysis…….

Hmm, I would at least make him an offer. If he’ll take money appropriate for a backup C/G, or even mid-tier G, I’d definitely keep him around.
i guess it’s all about $, but i saw him as a good pick we’d retain for a while. what the heck do i know?
edited to add: BKB!
if he doesn’t find much in FA, maybe they bring him back, just sounds like not an initial priority
So much for valuing our own draft picks.
So unless we resign every draft pick we ever had we don;t value draft picks? He is being beat out by another draft pick.
No, but when you’ve got young guys who are playing well, you keep them around and he certainly is better than Sean Louveau
He played 7 games last year and has an injury history we can find a better LG.
flounder does not “get” nuance or shades of gray or anything with multiple layers.
No I don’t get worrying about a guy who played 7 games and got beat out by a rookie.
Not sure why you wouldn’t keep a guy like that for a swing backup guy…
He can’t be that expensive
not anticipating his return could mean they expect him to sign elsewhere in FA, not necessarily that they wouldn’t like him back at the right price
Not that this is any real evidence but when I use an off season simulator he always costs 6 mil a year or so.
Let him hit FA’s and then sign him as there wont be much interest.

Nashville, TN
Newark, NJ
New York City, NY
Northern Virginia, VA
Philadelphia, PA
Pittsburgh, PA
Raleigh, NC
Toronto, ON
Washington D.C.
DC is 15% of the list.
Interesting that they’re all cities except for Montgomery County and Northern Virginia.
Montgomery county has massive wealth one of the richest counties in the USA.
that and the DMV has a huge amount of highly educated people
Yes one of the things they were looking for was having a lot of highly educated folks. Public transit was also a big one.
Not a shock Bezos lives in D.C. now, and owns the local paper.
DMV with 3 shots out of 20

Excuse me….. you’ve got the decimal point in the wrong place. – DTrump.
Also almost every city has an NFL team too

Austin, Columbus, Raleigh and Toronto don’t

you think it says 2 but it is really a 3
Please be Montgomery County, MD

there’s an “s” in nietzsche.
Going to be the hip choice, Toronto
What I wanted to see was a Linoma type thing. Amazon could have built their own city on cheap land, complete with Fed and State support for a brand new international airport and high speed rail to both city centers. But nope.
I’m hoping it goes to Newark. That place really needs some jobs.
I just drove through last month, its fine. It’s a slab of factories in a swamp where we used to dump the bodies.
Third world shithole
Newark
Trenton
Camden
Camden…now that’s a shithole
Halfway decent titty bars though. In a pinch
Shithole brother, Philadelphia
Jersey City, don’t forget Jersey City.
I count that as Newark metro…..
da’quon
Okay so if I’m crossing names off this list I think next to go are Austin, Atlanta, Columbus, Indianapolis, Nashville, Pittsburgh. Then all the west coast cities.
Raleigh wins imo.
Miami would make some sense as they’re making a push in Latin America.
Why build a big HQ that will be underwater in 20 years.
Then there’s that…
Now THAT’S funny
Or taken out by a Cat. 5.
Dallas wins.

Regarding Zach Browns contract. I pulled the salaries for ILBs from
Spotrac, and averaged the top10 and top 5, I think a deal for Brown is
probably somewhere in the 8.5 M a year range.

Top 10 Average:

Yeah it’s not like we have to break the bank for him especially since he is not thought of as a top ILB.
Maybe top 5, probably more like 7th. But at that point you have to pay up IMO. Not make him #1, but a respectable, reasonable offer
I negotiate that is what teams do.
This is the line of thinking that got the team where it is with Cousins.

zach brown is freakin awesome. likely our best FA signing in years. will we pay him enough to retain him?
I think they’ll get er done. But I heard rumblings he may want to shop around. Will see…
If he is smart he will.
You’re saying if he’s smart he’ll shop around?
Zack Brown was getting nothing in FA’s last year after being a pro bowler we stepped in a signed him. If he wants to stay then they should get it done but if he’s smart he will test FA’s.
the Skins need to get this Cousins thing done or not before full FA so they can sign guys like Brown and maybe a fairly $ WR
I bought one of those buckets of Tide pellets because they were on sale at Wegmans. And my boy who’s a P&G sales guy told me those things are selling like crazy.

“We thank President Donald Trump and his administration for their continued support and appreciate the ongoing efforts of Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts, the Nebraska legislative and congressional delegation, Omaha Federation of Labor, Nebraska State AFL-CIO, our customers and various stakeholders to advance this project,” said Russ Girling, TransCanada’s president and chief executive officer.”

If there is one thing you want as a fanbase, you want players to know they are appreciated.
I prefer knowing the player appreciates the fans and sticks around for them.
Free58 tho lol
that’s nice. are they, zach brown especially, going to stick around for less than max money?
Zack Brown was getting no offers in FA last year, I doubt he gets anything close to max money from anyone.
i don’t know what happened last year. seems like we got lucky and he slipped through the cracks. we’re going to have to “pony up” to keep him.
I forget why he wanted to get out class, but right before lunch…this kid downed some syrup of ipecac, walked into the cafeteria, drank water and essentially immediately, began puking his guts out.
Being a dumb ass, he took too much of the stuff and got a lot more puking going on than he bargained for.
that’s NOT how the ketogenic diet works!
Damn I want FA’s to start.
Wouldn’t that be a kind of interesting strategic twist to the NFL?
Free Agency begins Championship week
Yes
This is a boring time for football news.
It’s boring for us because our team is never involved this late in the season. 🙁
it’s a GREAT time – if you’re a good team. for the redskins and redskin fans, i call this the “jealousy season”. i’m annually so jealous of well-run teams w/competent front offices and well-chosen players, etc… i hear crap like, “oh, this team had massive injuries, but now they’re starting 4 rookies on the o-line – and look at them go!” or various versions of that. sigh….
Funny I guess there aren’t many well run teams than because not many teams get to this spot each year.
12 teams made the playoffs. i’m jealous of all of them. 8 excellent teams played last weekend. when was the last time we played in the second week of the playoffs? 4 lucky/skillful teams are playing this weekend. when was our last conference championship game? yeah… i’m jealous.
amen
there aren’t many well run teams than because not many teams get to this spot each year.

yes, flounder, there are only 4 teams left in the final 4…. good observation. and, yes, i wish we were among them.

I always preferred a beer bong it was less messy.
And nothing like a nice game of flip cup or beer pong among friends.
Nice, I got a Skull and Spine one. Someone brought it to a halloween party I hosted. Thing is badass.
Shit… I was dating a girl back in my beer bong days (long ago!) and will never forget watching her cheeks fill up when I raised up the funnel, and then watching her spew beer EVERYWHERE. It was hilarious.
To be fair, she was trying to take two beers at one on her first go. The guys and I were in the process of seeing who could do three when she said she wanted to try two. Huge mistake on her part, but amazing to watch. I wish I could see it again in slo-mo.
You could spin the shit outta that……..

Non-Redskins, but last night we were having a discussion about so-called fake news and how irresponsible the media supposedly is. Turns out a lot of news sites were looking into the Trump/Stormy Daniels affair in the final weeks of the election, but they chose not to run it because at the time it wasn’t sourced to their satisfaction. Because … real news.
xxx
I would guess some of them thought it would make him more (Bill) Clintonian to some of the voting audience, given that the other story (“grab em”) didn’t do what they had hoped, hooking up with a hot pron star might have just added to his odd allure the same way that some dudes like Bill Clinton for catting around in the White House. Maybe not. But I’m sticking to that conspiracy theory I just made up.
The timing though. So soon after his wife gave birth.
Got to think that that would have given evangelicals a big time pause.

If their that stupid than to bad for them.
I agree.
OTOH, at our age it is kind of hard to remember how it was to be a teenager, brain not fully developed, certainly ignorant, certainly invincible in our world, where you don’t think you’re going to die from a common household thing. I knew plenty of people even in their 20’s who didn’t think, so long as they were careful, that driving hammer timed home was dangerous.
I was smart enough not to eat laundry detergent, however is wasn’t smart enough not to drink and smoke.
I knew a guy in college who would snort virtually any household product to see if it game him a high. Saw him snort Bactine powder once.
their, than, to…lol
That’s the Flounder we all love!
I’m supposed to feel something for idiots eating laundry detergent?
no my friend, grammar bs. just funny
Natural selection
Let the stupid weed themselves out of the gene pool
From the age group that brought you pouring vodka in your eyes & sticking alcohol soaked tampons up your but comes eating detergent!
I am not that much older then the post-menials but I don’t remember my generation doing things this stupid.
Nope we drank the alcohol.
Yeah what ever happened to the day of just to going into the woods with a case of cheap beer and chugging it with a couple of guys. Then running to a cliff to try and dispose of the empties and a friend maybe falling off the cliff.
beer = carbs
Whip-its in the grocery store till they ran you stumbling out of there. Some poor mom bought “de-charged” whipped cream.
the tampon thing is probably safer than the alcohol enema thing I was talking about the other day (where you get so drunk so fast that you don’t have time to remove the bottle from your person and you could die of alcohol poisoning)
people do it because the lower tract doesn’t do a lot of digestion, but it does soak up water and alcohol very well. well enough that you would prob get stinking drunk far faster than by ingestion the normal route. you can also get high by snorting alcohol. how do I know this? I used to work in an agricultural lab. before we could do analysis on the silage or haylage (fermented animal feeds), you had to dry them down. we used a microwave. you had to balance drying down the sample with “setting the sample on fire” (especially if you didn’t get it set out in a nice single layer). One time I opened up the microwave prematurely to check on the sample and a rush of steam came out of the microwave, and I was drunk for about 3 minutes nearly instantly. had to walk that off. What I am NOT saying (if there are teenagers reading this) is that you should microwave alcohol. What I am saying, is that if you do, be very careful.
TMI___________________
you lost me at the tampon thing….

“Disco turned a twenty minute bit with Doc into 50 minutes on the phone.”
–
Not to get too behind the scenes but when you are talking with a guy like Doc, it isn’t hard to do. You basically can just ask him 2 questions and let him run like the energizer bunny. During the show we have a little chat window so the guys can all figure out our next questions. After 25 minutes, we were like, okay, lets close this up… but Doc was still talking. Then I started asking followup questions to what he was saying, Steve and Sean got real upset with me because once I start talking special teams I don’t wanna stop. Eventually I had to mute my mic so I’d not bug him anymore. Sean kept trying to end the conversation but Doc can take 1 little aside from someone and turn it into a 3 minute answer about the glory years.
LOL

I think the move is to keep going with the content, you can edit in post, and always, you can decide to maybe “air” pieces of it as a series or maybe you know, as a “best of” or “secret vault” bit where you may take like (as your example) all the ST stuff and a couple of months later push out a “Doc Walker talks ST” interview, or whatever. Collect the content, decide what to do with it later. Of course, then, what that might make easier to set up would be fake breaks, or scheduled breaks, fake commercials (like a 3-second Hogsty reset advertising something else like the blog or an upcoming pod).

Interesting experience. Would have been easy except you can’t move, and while I’m in that tube my right hand — holding the “alert” button — went completely numb. No big deal. Probably take a few days until I find out the results.
