Which Alex Smith should we expect for the Redskins? 2005-2016 or 2017?
February 12, 2018
by Jamual Forrest
In what will be his age 34 season in the NFL, Alex Smith’s tenure as a Redskin will be an interesting one for a multitude of reasons. Smith is a quarterback who has had three different labels attached to him as he gained experience in the league. There is no doubt that Smith has improved as he has aged. However, because there are 12 years of film on the quarterback, there should be some trepidation when examining his last season in Kansas City.
He was considered a bust by many in his first six seasons, disregarding the fact that circumstances around him in San Francisco may have stressed out and affected any young quarterback on the field. Nonetheless, Smith got an opportunity with Harbaugh in 2011, and that sixth season is when the narrative changed on Smith for the first time. He became a competent game manager who almost led the 49ers to a Super Bowl berth. They did not make it in 2011 but did the following season, which led to him being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013. The Andy Reid and Alex Smith made an immediate impact together, finishing 11-4 that year with Smith as the starter. The duo has been successful from day one, missing the playoffs only one out of five seasons during that stint. Smith compiled 50 wins and suffered only 26 defeats in his time as a Chief, and his final season before being traded to Washington was his best season as a professional quarterback. He seemingly leaped game-manager to a big play quarterback (not elite, there is a difference).
A big-time quarterback is the latest label to be placed on Smith. The highlights revolved around shot plays to speed demon Tyreke Hill, tight end Travis Kelce, and rookie running back Kareem Hunt. Smith had a great season; his accuracy was among the elites in the NFL, especially his deep passes, which he led the league in completions. Smith led the league in interception percentage per pass attempt, adjusted yards per pass attempt, and quarterback rating. He also threw for a career high in touchdown passes with 26 and only five interceptions. It was a great season, but does that mean this is the quarterback the Redskins will be getting when he steps on the field for them in August?
Alex Smith was a heavy topic in both The Hog Sty’s latest episode with Mark Bullock and with Joel Corry two episodes ago. The question was asked, even after his last season, which was excellent, why should anyone disregard his previous eleven seasons when his play has shown him to be a particular type of quarterback? Is the third label being thrown around likely to stick with Smith? Alternatively, should fans expect Smith to be the game-manager that prefers the short-passing game than taking deep shots, favoring check downs early in the development of plays, and escaping the pocket a little too soon than desired? Those are not necessarily insulting evaluations for a quarterback, but it becomes merely a frustrating thing to watch.
In all, there is nothing wrong with that way if the Redskins are winning games consistently, which Alex Smith does know how to do as long as good talent surrounds him. Obviously, this is a team game, and the help he gets via team acquisitions and coaching will play a significant factor in Smith’s success on the field, but the version of Smith that Redskins fans will see is just as important when evaluating the potential of this team.

This wouldn’t have happened if Hilary would have won. (Gun and ammo sales have dropped since Trump took office)
Ironic, but probably true.
(from the Wapo article)
Reuters reported the company’s sales crashed in 2017, leaving it with a $28 million operating loss. …
“The company’s fortunes took a hit after the election of Donald Trump,” Bloomberg wrote, “because Hillary Clinton’s defeat erased fears among gun enthusiasts about losing access to weapons. Sales plummeted, and retailers stopped reordering as they found themselves stuffed with unsold inventory.”
The numbers have indeed dropped, as indicated by FBI firearm background checks. In 2017, the FBI conducted about 25.2 million firearm background checks, down from 27.5 million in 2016. The dip is significant, but the figure remains significantly higher than in previous years. In 2009, for example, the year Obama was sworn in, there were 14 million FBI firearm background checks.

Yea. A dude that sports a suit like that, would be who drops a President into a patch of overgrowth.
That’s Wiley
The Lady on the far left, Amy Sherald, painted Mrs. Obama. She has awesome use of space, +/-
If you hadn’t told me that was Michelle Obama, I wouldn’t have recognized it as her.
Yea. It’s not easy to see Michelle in there.
And at least in that lighting, she sure is looking ashy.
me either
It’s a heck of a departure from the traditional style that these are done in, I like that.
But my reaction to the Obama painting is that it’s almost too much green.
Bill Clinton’s is nothing to write home about, shadows going in all directions.

I can’t wait to see what he thinks up… cannot wait.
Replace chair with throne. Replace green with gold.
Meh….very basic, there.
I’m hoping, whoever it is that’s commissioned, pulls a fast one. No one sees it until the unveiling…pull the cover and, there’s Trump, on his golden toilet watching Fox news on a phone.
Lmao

if gruden can coach up a 4th round pick like cousins, i’m sure he can get the most out of smith.
Smith wont be the problem, Gruden needs to start using the run game and actually develop a running game scheme.

Can’t mold a 50 something QB though. Got to adapt the play calling and scheme to suit his abilities.

Not as robust as Ps, but it gets it done. Different set of tools too. You’re familiar with Ps, so, not all that much of a learning curve though.

Has something happened off field with Payne?
First-Pick has downgraded him to a B with the 13th pick. What gives?
i thought I’d score better but it’s still kinda fun
is DT a need for the Redskins (does firstpick list DT as a need with your pick?)
i think so
Ahh.
If that’s the case. They’re wrong.
If I’m Jay, I’m like, “Look Suzy–and you’ll be Suzy until you prove otherwise–as far as I’m concerned you come in here as if you are an UDFA. If the vets feel like they want to haze you, you smile about it. Do nothing but work hard, keep your mouth closed, make plays, be a good teammate. Otherwise, you’re career is essentially over.”
This guy is a 2nd round pick who’s not worth a ham sandwich. Why release him? Make him earn his way back. Dude looked like a pretty good baller against the Giants in ’16 and in the preseason.
Could be a Special Teams Demon and valuable backup/spot duty player.
Players are more forgiving than the public. He didn’t hurt anybod’ys paycheck. So long as they believe him, the guys in the secondary will bring him back into the fold.

to all these people doing mock drafts:
how do you watch enough college football to even attempt that?
———-
I think you miss the important part of all this is just to have a little fun.
Cravens went through the bother of getting reinstated. Maybe he needs the money. Maybe he just wants to play. Either way…get him in practice, see what he’s got. Then either be okay with giving him a second chance or once you’ve got film on him, get him traded.
Agreed
I think you have to give him a few work outs and camps, then if you don’t want him, trade him for some conditional picks.
First one…not stellar but it is my first attempt.
Your score is: 19175 (GRADE: B)
Your Picks:
Round 2 Pick 1 (CLE): Derrick Nnadi, DT, Florida State (B-)
Round 2 Pick 3 (CLE): Derrius Guice, RB, LSU (B+)
Round 2 Pick 22 (K.C.): Will Hernandez, OG, Texas-El Paso (A-)
Round 3 Pick 1 (CLE): Darius Leonard, OLB/ILB, South Carolina State (B)
Round 3 Pick 14 (K.C.): Harrison Phillips, DT, Stanford (A)
Round 4 Pick 13: Quin Blanding, FS, Virginia (A+)
Round 5 Pick 12: Troy Fumagalli, TE, Wisconsin (A)
Round 6 Pick 14: Micah Kiser, ILB, Virginia (A+)
Round 7 Pick 13: Heath Harding, CB, Miami (OH) (A+)
Round 7 Pick 23: Adam Breneman, TE, Massachusetts (A+)
not sure why I took 2 TE’s???
No Poona? Fail
lol
Picked him up as a UDFA.
Nice dude. Not bad. Nnadi a lower rounder in other mocks… but I like him. Guice…wow !

Trades are the way increase your score. However, there is a line where it becomes a diminished return. Twenty picks in the 7th ain’t gonna get ya much. But when you own the 2nd-4th rounds…lotta points to be had. Unrealistic as all that trading is though, eventually you just stick with the no trades and see what you get with who lands at your pick.
Least, most do. I think.
gotcha
Once you’ve got it down, and might be getting bored…it’s interesting to see what can be done with other teams drafts.
Just, under no circumstance, don’t do a draft for any of our division rivals.
Here’s mine without making any trades…
Your score is: 19116 (GRADE: B)
Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 13: DaRon Payne, DT, Alabama (B)
Round 2 Pick 12: Isaiah Wynn, OG, Georgia (A)
Round 4 Pick 13: Jaylen Samuels, RB/WR, North Carolina State (A)
Round 5 Pick 12: Trey Quinn, WR, Southern Methodist (A+)
Round 6 Pick 14: Adam Breneman, TE, Massachusetts (A)
Round 7 Pick 13: Heath Harding, CB, Miami (OH) (A+)
Round 7 Pick 23: Michael Hill, DT, Ohio State (A+)
Why the heck are they grading Payne down in the 1st?
no idea but I’d be happy with this draft
Mc C traded down to little if any benefit ..granted later round in 4th
Yeah try to avoid the trade button…you get offers every pick. Probably not gonna happen.
For 2018, Cravens has a modest cap of $1.2M and only $711K dead, so releasing him would be no biggie. BUT, he’s under contract on his rookie deal at that so I’d prefer to let him come in and compete. He either makes the 53 or he doesn’t, and we could always use the help on Teams. He’s untradable so might as well.
Reclaimation project
He’s either playing for us or not at all

I’d be all for seeing if we can get the 3rd round pick we lost in exchange for Suzy.

This guy would know.
I disagree
I think he’s back
to all these people doing mock drafts:
how do you watch enough college football to even attempt that?
football it’s a lifestyle choice
(not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
I don’t watch a lot college ball….it’s just about knowing who the best players are based on all the crap I read and highlights I watch. Saturdays im out doing stuff, not watching College ball.
does anyone’s “highlight reel” ever show them messing up…?
Highlight reels are pretty worthless for evaluation purposes.
the first half dozen mock drafts you do, take FOREVER as you at least read up on the guys, and by your 7th one or so, you’re mostly picking from the same pool of about three dozen players. of course, as we go through the December (declarations) and then the all star games, combine, pro day, the things change, so you end up reading up on a few more guys.
so the answer is, you don’t REALLY have to watch that much college football,
and obviously if you look at some of them, you don’t even really have to know all that much about the pro team and their drafting proclivities
because it’s all really real, really fake real.
are compression waves somehow involved?
as the limit for the density of the medium approaches infinity… yes!
space is nowhere near infinitely dense. we’d see the sun explode first.
we’d be exposed to a tremendous amount of light as the density of the sun changed, (light from inside the sun can take thousands of years to reach us) all that light inside would be “released”
when you say we’d see it, we probably wouldn’t, our robots might, if they were their sensors were not blinded or destroyed by the amount and variety of radiation, but the good news is that none of us would be around to argue whether or not it makes any sense at all that compression waves moving through an infinity dense material… tap tap tap, is this thing on? HELLO, infinitely dense material would not be…. compressible.
but we can give ourselves several minutes of warning if we took a big stick and touched the sun with it and some orbiting satellite. as soon as it exploded, the stick would punch the satellite like a pool que on a que ball. Then we’d all have a few minutes to have as much sex as we could with the temple prostitutes.
lot of hand-waving there. we’d see it before we felt it.
Fortunately the good people at Draft Breakdown have cut up game tapes for most of the top prospects, so you can view all the plays a player was involved in in a particular game in 5 – 25 minutes, depending on the player and position.
http://draftbreakdown.com/
You click a name. Read the scouting reports. Early round guys, you watch some game film. Mostly highlight reel stuff.
Or, if you’re a grade chaser like BC, you just remember who’s grading well in whichever round you draft them in.
It’s fun and since even the best mock drafts only get a couple picks each year right it obviously doesn’t matter how knowledgeable you are.
Your score is: 20586 (GRADE: B+)
Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 13: Vita Vea, DT, Washington (B)
Round 2 Pick 12: Tremaine Edmunds, OLB, Virginia Tech (A)
Round 4 Pick 13: D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland (A+)
Round 5 Pick 12: Josh Adams, RB, Notre Dame (A+)
Round 6 Pick 14: Deatrick Nichols, CB, South Florida (A+)
Round 7 Pick 13: Austin Corbett, OG, Nevada (A+)
Round 7 Pick 23: David Moa, DE, Boise State (A+)
_____
Def settled on Vea at 13. We need a dominating inside presence to both stop the run and create pressure. Allen and him would keep us set there for years and allow a further building of the back end of the D.
Your second round pick is spectacular.
Never know man anybody can slip to anywhere in the draft. Always 1st round talent available in the 2nd.

i would love to have another hokie on the team – if only to replace fuller. sad about that loss. happy to get smith and happy the cousins saga is over.
You give Cravens another chance
If he quits again you air all his dirty laundry so that he’s kryptonite to every team and never works again
No one is trading for him not even close
Not even close he says…
The Guice kid will probably be picked earlier than people think too. 6 Qbs, 2 RBs, probably in the top 13. That leaves us 5 of the defenders.
I do want a RB. I like Penny and the guy from USC. And Michel.
Jones from USC looks good…
I would think, given the last couple of drafts, that we might see more 1st round RBs this year. Kamara prob means Sony “Runman” Michel goes earlier than otherwise (some team eschewing the fumble stats)
I think RBs are rising again in drafts. Not a dime a dozen…
Like CBs…you dont just ‘fill in’.
Fuller? He’s no big deal, will replace him easily.
-FO
Plug and play….
lol
re cravens:
is there some way to restructure his contract to protect the skins against him quitting? we didn’t pay him last year because he “retired”, right? i mean, if we get to the start of the season and he feels like quitting, he’ll just say he has another concussion, and we’d pay him for the year, right?
Did some more studying of UGA backs Chubb and Michel.
Michel quicker and faster with great vision and instincts. Not gonna break a lot of tackles tho. For example.. unless a hole had a hard time vs ND front 4/7. If there is any hole tho he is thru it and gone…
Chubb more of the power runner. Solid runner. A bit slower than Michel hitting the hole. Can break tackles and move the pile.
Frankly similar tape to S. Perine. Perine is actually about 10 lbs heavier than Chubb yet Chubb seems to escape tackles better.
Not saying I dislike either..just not sold to use a 2nd or 4th to draft one these guys.
As a comparison Rodney Anderson /OU has the combination of traits of both of the above. This is the type back I think Skins need and should go after down the road.
So my effort this year would be get a guard or C (Ragnow/Nelson ) to play guard then worry about a high end back. Inept blocking past 1st level is an achilles heel for Skins imo
I usually pick Josh Adams in the 4th or so…
…
Downsides: 1) upright running style, 2) played behind two likely 1st round OL at ND
Yes. Lot of good RBs …just not convinced on some of these guys next level. My next RB needs to be a real hit. Barkley Guice the closest to real hits imo. Gonna look at Penny some more. He just doesnt seem to be a tackle breaker either from what I’ve seen…?
I’m good with Penny or J. Samuels, Penny being the better runner, Samuels a virtual Swiss Army knife of possibilities.
Gotta check Samuels out. Penny too straight legged runner from what I recall. Can he break NFL tackles? Skins NEED a tackle breaker RB. Not just a hole runner…a bruiser.

Good for the Lions.
A suspected big cat poacher has been eaten by lions near the Kruger National Park in South Africa, police say.
The animals left little behind, but some body parts were found over the weekend at a game park near Hoedspruit.
“It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions,” Limpopo police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe told AFP.
“They ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains.”
Fantastic
Re: Hunting
Saw that pic below of that fat lard sitting over a lion. I don’t get the sport of hunting at all. Now people who are out hunting for food b/c they have to eat, or because you are controlling a population that’s out of ratio – that’s another thing altogether. But what in the world is “sporting” about lining up animals with a gun scope and shooting them? How is that fun? If you want to jump in there with a knife or a spear and make it a quasi-even match, then there could be something “sporting” about that. But hiding out in the bushes 50 yards away and ambushing an animal that’s minding its own business because you are too slow, too loud, or too sissy to get up in its face…that’s not “sport”. That’s just combining gratuitous killing with being a little beyotch.
we as humans, used to be very athletic, we used to hunt big game by first running them. you’d run after them, tire them out, and then, bring them down. probably not, obviously, with your bare hands, but indeed we were built to run.
OR
If you INVENTED and BUILT your weapon, then it’s also acceptable. I mean, if you took basic tools and your bare hands and built a compound bow out of sticks and reeds and ancient form of duct tape and whatnot? Or you spent a year with a forge and blacksmith tools to craft a weapon? Then = OK.
TheHogSty@TheHogSty
Is anyone actually buying Cravens’ story about concussion symptoms? If that was the case, it’d be a football-related injury and he could’ve gone to IR for the year and earned his salary.
_________________
Of course no one is buying it. Cravens quit in a fit; and then when his agent had an opportunity to sit down with him and go through his life-options at that point, what was presented to him was this:
1) Flip burgers
2) Uber Driver
3) Figure out how to get back in the NFL
At which point, the strategy was to play on the sympathies of the “concussion card”. Cravens is all question marks. His subsequent tweets basically blaming others for not trusting him and ranting about police racism are flag-raising.

Should have asked him about Cravens’ desire to strap it up again.
Maybe remind him the NFL is no day at the beach.
Probably a poor question on my part. If he re-signs, he might be my #1 target fort he show. He’s open, honest, and blunt. I love that.
I hear Trent Williams is blunt.

I wouldn’t trade Cravens if I could’t get value for him…why reward his “bitchassness”? …then he’ll go somewhere and ball out. I actually heard the Patriots were going to draft him. We picked right before them
He needs to be behind Fish Smithson on the depth chart.
and that bitch can go pick-up the tee after kickoffs
Yep. Give the retard a break.
He needs to be somewhere else.
Absolutely, if we have 8 safeties in camp then he’s number 8 on the depth chart. He can try to work his way up from there. If he’s willing to do that and balls out then you give him a few games to build up his stock and then trade his ass.
Actually this is yet another test for the Redskins. Cravens has talent, but do the Redskins have the “leadership skills” to mend this fence and get the most out of him. He WOULD be like adding a 2nd round pick to our defense.
He needs to volunteer for Special Teams.
Not be invited…..volunteer.
Agree with this, he has to earn his spot from the dirt
No way, I’d let Cravens force his way outta here. I’d make him play out his contract or rot if we couldn’t get anything in a trade.
Fuck that chump.
Cancer though
Nah…you can only be a cancer if you’re allowed to spread. Who’s gonna listen to that dude?
….just keep in mind, Su’a Cravens was a Scot McCloughan SECOND ROUND pick. Plus, there were signs at USC.
So Su’a Cravens wants back in the club. That’d be a big “no” from me. He just isn’t trustworthy.

Exactly. Kon, stop being so dramatic!

If you’re going to analogize Cravens’ actions to a car accident, yeah.
Why did he wait until after the final cut?
Bingo. He cost somebody a job.
And put the team in a bind.
I don’t like it, but he’s too valuable to cut. Be great it would be get our 3rd rounder back for him.
I’d cut or trade him in a New York minute.

Don’t make me have to copy/paste this story
In December, the agent for safety Su’a Cravens said that his client has recovered from post-concussion syndrome and wanted to return to the NFL in 2018.
Cravens has reportedly taken the next step toward making that happen. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Cravens has officially applied for reinstatement from the reserve/left squad list that the Redskins put him on in September of last year.
Meh…….. should have been upfront about it before roster cut.

from Tony Pauline:
After completing the Alabama film I came away with two opinions: Minkah Fitzpatrick is overrated by many, while Da’Ron Payne is ridiculously underrated.
——————–
I think most have Payne going in the second half to middle of round 1, which is about right. Should he be top 10 when he doesn’t bring much pass rush? Nah. To me he’s a slightly better version of recent Bama DTs: Reed, Robinson, and Tomlinson, all of whom went in the second round.
Pauline also says Fitzpatrick is overrated because he has a flaw that was shared by Jalen Ramsey? In his second year Ramsey is probably the best CB in the NFL, so I could live with that.

CBSSports.com’s Chris Trapasso thinks the team could add another player to the position in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
In his most recent mock draft, Trapasso has Washington selecting Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward with the No. 13-overall pick.
===============================
looks like I’ll have some mock updates to do tonight
King Kong ain’t got shit on him!
I would not be surprised if we took the QB from Richmond or UVA in rounds 6/7
you need 4 arms to work everyone in OTAs, mini-camp and training camp
Both aren’t bad options, and if a QB went to UVA he can’t be that dumb.
and we have the great Stephen Morris of U of Miami on the roster already
Ohio?
FL
We have all of that stuff under our roster and salary cap tabs at the top of the page. Considering how long it takes to keep the up the salary cap numbers, in particular, I’d really appreciate it if you guys would actually use it.
it’s where I got my info on Morris
Thank you. That’s 1.
“the Spider”, and no to the Cav.
I love the NFL athletes (Johnny Goofball and Michael Bennet, et al) who, when called out on being a knucklehead, cry out, “But I am just a human being….. a human being…how come you cannot understand that?”
yawn
RGIII’s house in Creighton Farms (maybe the nicest gated community in Leesburg) is still on the market and it’s a couple houses away from Jay Gruden and Alex Smith is moving to town with his family.
Wouldn’t it be so fucking hilarious…….
“Yo, Robbie….we might have a deal…..just leave that Heismann on the mantle, mmmmkayyyyy…..great!”
https://photos.zillowstatic.com/p_f/ISug473aa2sbpu0000000000.jpg
Makes you wonder why that house is still on the market. Don’t they move pretty quickly in that area?
It’s typical Robert!
The house is over priced and he’s actually asking for more than he bought it for…probably because it was him.
I’d book that.
But yes, that house should have sold in less than 90 days.
The most expensive properties in the DC area typically don’t last long.
I actually like the home.
My brother has a sister-in-law who is very well-off and considering moving to Austin.
Every time she comes to town to look at a couple of new listings, they are off the market by the time she arrives. Many homes are bought sight unseen.
I had that happen when we went to look at an apartment in DC. 2 Blocks up from chinatown, 3 bedroom, wife and I were in the process of looking at it when the person renting it told us they just got an email someone wanted the place and was offering 500/month over asking price.
Is the toilet seat autographed? The garbage disposal?
Well the house is probably in the name of him and his ex wife, so I wonder if one of them is messing with the sale to screw over the other?
Or it’s tied up in court.
Don’t count on that one bit. RG isn’t working. I don’t care who you are, when you are not working, you want that 2 million dollar house sold if for no other reason that to pay off your wife so she can quit dragging your ass into court for every other dollar.
The court would never block or impede the sale of a home on the market. If there was an issue, it would be off the market.
He’s working part time for ESPN now I thought. And waiting tables at the dennys
Trust me, those stand-in gigs don’t pay shit compared to what he’d been making.
Especially since he’s a former ROY with a shitty record and zero playoff wins as he stands next to dudes with RINGS.
I know he still has money in the bank, but he’s paying the bills on that home still. He wants that gone ASAP.
Oh no doubt, he’s never making 15 mil in a year like he did sitting on the bench.
In Jersey
No way. She wants that house sold, and he wants to get rid of her. It’s been on the market for awhile because it’s a high-end property.
I live only 5 minutes from there in a smaller middle class community. Those homes in Creighton Farms are dope
I am probably going to move to Loudoun in 2018 after being in DC (or just outside it in MD) for the majority of my life. Real estate in my part of the ‘hood is really taking off again.
I hate the color, and that ugly ass painting. The trim and fireplace are awesome.
I mean, having a giant 10 ft mural of yourself painted on the wall is a bit egotistical isn’t it?
Lol
That home screams “professional interior decorator”. Bob and his ex probably just moved in with their suitcases and personal effects.
Yeah, I’m not saying it’s a dive, just that the color scheme is wack.
$500 month HOA fee
https://media.giphy.com/media/5ZhMvhDlMt4C4/giphy.gif
On a 2+ mil home? That’s literally nothing. I had a condo in 1997 in Georgetown that was 950 square feet and the condo fee was 450 a month.
If you think that’s something…stay away from downtown and uptown condos. In any city.
Why?
It’s a part of that type of ownership.
You understand that right?
And last I checked, Georgetown is downtown.
Why are you telling me that and not the guy whose eyes blew up at $500 in monthly dues?
Crooked leg on that coffee table. Lamp shade too on that chandelier.
Sheesh, who set this listing up? 65’s old lady?
Crooked leg…. RG3 of course!
You love that mirror…..I can see it all over your post.
That table is a super table!
– Dr. Knitcap
I would like Payne at #13 but I would not mind James, Smith, Vea either
some major talent for the defense
I think the Redskins could go this entire draft without selecting a QB in any round this year. In fact, I might like to see that.
I think they probably need to grab a back of the draft project – 6th or 7th round – with an eye towards eventually turning him into the #2 guy once Colt McCoy leaves.
Always want 1 kid in the pipeline on a rookie deal. Just in case.
So you can then cause him to get cut by interviewing him at training camp this year…..
It’s a blessing, and a curse.
Been thinking the same thing, especially if Smith has a couple of really good years.
From what I’ve seen of the draft, no matter what, someone good should fall to the skins at 13.
It’s going to bard not to fill in an impact player in a major position of need. I would add Quentin Nelson to that list if he drops that far.
Yep. Hope for a run on QBs to push more defenders down to 13.
I see a Redskins team who in 2018 will win games they probably should not (Rams, Seahawks, etc.), pull out wins they lost in 2017 (Chiefs, Saints) and actually win the games they should too (Giants, Vikings).
Watch the new stability at the QB position enable this team to strengthen.
I put this team down for next season, with its full compliment of talent back for 2018, as division contender.
scamp, you around?
He’s already moved to Myrtle Beach and is banging your wife.
lmwao! you’re funny, and all this while I’m in NYC banging yours…
Hey wait! I guess that leaves me with Scamp’s wife!
SCOW, it’s spelled SCOW
See, now that’s the kind of fun intellectual banter this comment section was made for.
I’m glad he has a sense of humor. many don’t
Speaking of everyone banging someone else’s wife. Valentine’s day is coming up. I thought I was all set, the wife wanted a home made pizza, I was gonna shape it like a heart, easy peasy. Now she changed her mind doesn’t want pizza. And there’s only so many foods you can shape like a heart, I guess I could do heart shaped tacos.
a flat-bottomed boat? i don’t get it
With a pilothouse….
Wait are you saying that SCOW’s wife is a 1990 Shoalwater?
Seriously, if you take yourself too seriously, you shouldn’t be up here.
that’s about when D_C goes off the rails…

Gruden just wants a QB who can execute the plays
we don’t need someone who has to win the game by himself
fix the defense and we win 9-11 games
—-
So you’re saying we fix the D, somehow win the conference with a 5-11 record, than end up going 4-0 in the playoffs and win the super bowl?
Sweet.
Grudens offense is built for a QB to throw for 4,000 yards. Smith will have a big year.
It’s built for speed and pleasure.
Jamual asks a good question. I personally think that we’ll see 2017 Smith as long as the team finds him some additional weapons.
And on that note, my free agency preview on wide receivers is coming tomorrow.
J-A-M-U-A-L asked a few good questions.

The Boston Police Department is facing heavy criticism online for a now-deleted Twitter post for Black History Month that celebrated a white man.
The original post on the department’s official Twitter account Sunday was in honor of former Boston Celtics coach Red Auerbach. The department tweeted that it was paying tribute to Auerbach for being the first NBA coach to draft a black player, start five African-American players, and hire the NBA’s first African-American head coach.

good stuff on it.
from Tony Pauline:
After completing the Alabama film I came away with two opinions: Minkah Fitzpatrick is overrated by many, while Da’Ron Payne is ridiculously underrated.
Fitzpatrick is talented, no doubt, yet my concerns about his game are similar to many of the concerns I’ve had in the past about former Alabama defensive backs — he can’t make plays with his back to the ball. It doesn’t mean he can’t learn the skill; Jalen Ramsey had similar issues leaving Florida State and has since developed into a terrific corner.
I was just awed by Payne when I broke him down; he’s athletic and powerful and plays smart, disciplined football. He collapses the pocket with power, occupies the gaps and even makes plays outside the box. Payne’s willingness to play within the system rather than just chase up the field was very impressive.
putting Payne and Allen together would be yuge for us
he’s the guy i want at 13….those two would be studs, he and allen
This is what I want. It makes me go ankle pants.
Even with the less than stellar WR play we had this past year
guys were consistently getting open
Cousins missed around 6-8 TD throws he should have made
Cousins also did not throw very well to the RBs seemed to never hit those guys in stride
Dude sucks. Gets manhandled in the NFL.
Smith isn’t going to win us games if Jay wants to be pass happy. If we don’t improve our run game, this experiment will end quickly.
Gruden just wants a QB who can execute the plays
we don’t need someone who has to win the game by himself
fix the defense and we win 9-11 games
get some of the injured players healthy for 16 games…
you can’t predict injuries but you can have better DL depth than we have now
^This. Allen went down and D turned to shit.
Allen was the start
but then Foster, Nicholson, et al
fix the defense and we win 9-11 games… over a 2-3 year period.
to the Pit of Misery
you’re no friend of the crown
Something you don’t see in all those SNHU commercials
A college professor – we repeat: a college professor; that’s someone responsible for educating others – has become the butt of complete piss-taking online after refusing to believe that Australia is an independent state.
The PhD-educated lecturer actually failed a student who had written in an assignment that the country Down Under was, well, a country.
Ashley Arnold, who studies sociology at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), had to complete a project in which she compared social norm in the US and another nation.
or her norm, Arnold chose social media use, and for her country she went with Australia.
But when her work was graded, she found she’d been failed – because, according to the teacher, “Australia is a continent, not a country”. Ashley was given zero marks across several sections for the “error”. Strewth!
“At first, I thought it was a joke,” the 27-year-old told Buzzfeed News. “This can’t be real. Then as I continued to read I realised she (the professor) was for real. With her education levels, her expertise, who wouldn’t know Australia is a country? If she’s hesitating or questioning that, why wouldn’t she just google that herself?”
And when she complained (“I believe Australia is both a country and a continent”), her prof remained unconvinced.
Astonishingly, instead of just, you know, hoping online to check, the teacher wrote back: “I will gladly re-examine your project report. But before I do I want you to understand that any error in a project can invalidate the entire research project. Research is like dominoes, if you accidentally knock over one piece the entire set will also fall. Australia is a continent; it is not a country.”
To which Ashley wrote back again insisting the lecturer to check her facts. She linked in the Australian government’s website and pointed out the country’s UN membership. Then she filed a complaint with the uni itself.
