So What’s the Deal With Paul Richardson, Really?

March 27, 2018

by Steve Thomas

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Redskins have a new wide receiver, Paul Richardson, Jr., formerly of the Seattle Seahawks.  Since the Redskins had a slow free agency week, I thought it would be a good time to take a detailed look at what the Redskins bought with their $40M and the kind of effect he may have on the Washington passing game under the guidance of new quarterback Alex Smith.  I’ve written several previous iterations of this “So What’s the Deal With . . .” series, including (of those who remain Redskins) Samaje Perine (read here), Jordan Reed (read here), and Rob Kelley (click here).  The intent of this series is to give you a detailed look at what the subject, in this case Richardson, has produced in his past and where he ranks amongst his peers, in order to give insight as to what we can expect from him in the future.  Let’s proceed on and see what we can learn about Mr. Richardson.

Background and college

Richardson is a Los Angeles, California, native, where he was a 4-star football recruit and a track star coming out of high school who ran a career-best 10.62 seconds in the 100 meter dash.  He originally committed to attend UCLA but was dismissed from the team due to an arrest for felony theft of a purse during summer school prior to the start of his freshman fall semester. He then transferred to the University of Colorado and attended the school for 4 years, posting a total of 156 receptions, 2,412 yards, 15.5 yards per reception, and 21 touchdowns[1].  Richardson missed the entire 2012 season due to a torn ACL in his left knee suffered during spring ball.  This is his season by season statistical breakdown:

2010: 12 gms, 34 receptions, 514 yards, 15.1 yards per reception, 6 TDs

2011: 9 gms, 39 receptions, 555 yards, 14.2 yards per reception, 5 TDs

2012: did not play

2013: 12 gms, 83 receptions, 1,343 yards, 16.2 yards per reception, 10 TDs

What jumps out of the page about his collegiate career is that Richardson’s production more than doubled in 2013.  He clearly became a much more integral part of the offense during that season, and was able to parlay that success into selection by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2nd round of the 2014 NFL draft.  At the 2014 NFL combine, Richardson ran the 40 yard dash in 4.40 seconds and posted a 38 inch vertical leap.  Colorado reportedly timed him at 4.28 seconds in the 40[2].  He is 6’0” and is listed at 183 pounds.

NFL production

Over the course of his 4 year career with the Seahawks, Richardson has played 47 games, starting 19, with 95 receptions on 161 targets, 1,302 yards, 13.7 yards per reception, and 8 touchdowns[3].  He re-tore his left ACL in Seattle’s divisional playoff game against the Carolina Panthers in his rookie year, which caused him to miss the first half of the 2015 season; however, he suffered a hamstring injury in his first game back and missed the rest of the season.  His year-by-year statistics:

2014: 15 gms, 6 starts, 44 tgts, 29 rec, 271 yds, 9.3 yds/rec, 1 TD, long 32 yds

2015: 1 gm, 0 starts, 1 tgt, 1 rec, 40 yds, 40.0 yds/rec, 0 TDs, long 40 yds

2016: 15 gms, 0 starts, 36 tgts, 21 rec, 288 yds, 13.7 yds/rec, 1 TD, long 39 yds

2017: 16 gms, 13 starts, 80 tgts, 44 rec, 703 yds, 16.0 yds/rec, 6 TDs, long 61 yds

There’s no getting around the fact that Richardson’s numbers are pedestrian at best.  I don’t need to include a big chart in this column to demonstrate that his raw statistics – both career and 2017 – don’t rate at the top of the league, despite being with a fairly high scoring offense like Seattle.  To put his 2017 into context, his 44 receptions ranked 55th in the NFL amongst wide receivers and 72nd when also including tight ends.  His 703 yards in 2017 was tied for 38th amongst wide receivers and tied for 43rd when tight ends are included.  Richardson’s 2017 catch percentage was 55%[4], which was 54th amongst wide receivers with 25 or more receptions on the season, and 82nd when tight ends are included.

When compared to his peers from the 2014 draft class, Richardson’s production has been pedestrian.  There were 36 players drafted in 2014 who’ve played receiver, and of those, Miami Dolphin Jarvis Landry has been by far the most prolific over the past 4 seasons, with 400 receptions, followed by Odell Beckham, Jr., who has had 313 receptions over that time span.  Richardson’s 95 receptions is 14th of those 36 receivers.  Richardson’s 1,302 yards is also ranked 14th, with Mike Evans from Tampa Bay leading the way with 4,579 yards, and Beckham and Landry, respectively, in 2nd and 3rd place.  His 55% catch percentage is 15th of those 36 players, although 3 of those ahead of him had less then 10 career receptions and another had only 14.

To drill down a bit further, 7 receivers were selected in round 2 in 2014: Marquise Lee (pick 39), Jordan Matthews (pick 42), Richardson (pick 45), Davante Adams (pick 53), Cody Latimer (pick 56), Allen Robinson (pick 61), and Landry (pick 63).  Of those 7, Richardson’s 95 receptions and his 1,302 career receiving yards are both ranked 6th.  His career 59% catch percentage is 4th among that group.

At first glance, this does not appear to be the type of production that is worth of a $40M contract.  I didn’t include him in my 2018 wide receiver free agency preview (click here to read) for that very reason.  On the surface, this isn’t a signing that is safely based on past established performance.  The Redskins scouting staff know all of this, yet signed him anyway.  Why is that?  This is a signing born of potential, and the answers are only found on film.

What does the film show?

Richardson was a consistent starter this past year for the first time in his career and was on the field for the bulk of the Seahawks’ offensive snaps.  What everyone first needs to understand is that he is not a Jamison Crowder clone just because he’s fast, either in body type or play style (we’ve had a few comments to that effect).  The Seahawks played him principally as an outside receiver, mostly in the X (outside receiver on the line of scrimmage) position, sometimes as the Z (off the line of scrimmage but outside of the slot receiver), not in the slot, although he did rarely play in the slot. The Seahawks also used bunch formations.  To put it into Redskin terms, Richardson is more of a Pierre Garcon-type in terms of his abilities, although he isn’t as bulky or physical as Garcon, and he has speed that is at least in the range of Desean Jackson, if not quite that fast.  This is not a player who is going to take reps from Crowder.  The plan for the Redskins is for Josh Doctson to play the “X” role, with Richardson starting as the “Z” receiver, and Crowder remaining in the slot.  However, Jay Gruden has repeatedly stated that he likes versatile players, and his offensive scheme is creative enough that all of these players will have to move around – after all, Jordan Reed (when healthy) has been known to line up in a variety of positions, for instance, as has running back Chris Thompson.  Richardson has proven to be versatile enough to fit the mold of what Gruden likes.  So, while Richardson will be the principal “Z”, he will almost certainly be used in a variety of roles.  The Redskins frequently use bunch formations, which, as stated, were also a part of the Seahawks scheme.

Richardson can effectively run the entire route tree.  He is not a player who is limited to just deep outside routes – fly, out and ups, flag routes, post-corner – that Jackson excelled in.  Seattle frequently had Richardson run shallow to mid-depth drag and crossing routes straight across the middle.  He was able to use his speed effectively to create separation between the trailing corners in these situations; in fact, at least two of his 2017 touchdowns came from these type of plays.  He also demonstrated effectiveness on square out-type timing patterns to the sideline (which we also saw from Jackson).  At the same time, Richardson clearly has speed by NFL receiver standards, and as a result is a good option to help “take the top off the defense”, as the cliché goes.  He isn’t overly physical like Garcon when fighting for a contested ball, but he is effective at using his superior athleticism and leaping ability to beat the defender for the catch.  He can be a complete receiver, and most definitely will not be limited to just a deep threat role.  Richardson is better than that.

However, some words of caution: Richardson’s film does not show that he has Desean Jackson’s incredible burst and acceleration. That’s not really a knock on Richardson given that Jackson is one of the quickest receivers in the league and one of the best deep threats in NFL history.  Whereas Jackson had an uncanny ability to seemingly loaf on deep vertical routes, and then accelerate, Formula One racecar-style, at the exact right moment, the film doesn’t show that Richardson’s speed and burst is on that level.  Also, his route running and ability to set up receivers can use improvement.  He doesn’t have the best timing or technique with his moves and can’t always get defenders to bite.  He also has a tendency to get a bit lazy during plays for which he isn’t the primary option, and he isn’t a plus blocker even by receiver standards unless the play specifically calls for him to block, such as on a designed Russell Wilson scramble to his side of the field.  The Redskins have a quality receivers coach in Ike Hillard, though, and I expect him to be a benefit to Richardson.

His other downside is that he is susceptible to drops.  He has about one ugly drop or so per game where the ball will hit him dead in the hands but he can’t come down with the reception.  Richardson’s low completion percentage is in part on Richardson.

Given all of the positives that Richardson demonstrates, why didn’t he post better numbers with Seattle?  First and foremost, the 2014 – 2017 Seahawks had many quality offensive weapons such as Tyler Lockett, Doug Baldwin, and Jimmy Graham, and Richardson therefore didn’t get the sheer number of targets that he would on other teams despite being a starter.  His career high-water mark of number of targets in a single game came in 2017 against the Falcons, during which he was targeted 8 times.  That isn’t very many for a top-flight NFL receiver.  In fact, he only averaged 5 targets per game in 2017 and 3.4 targets per game over the course of his career.

Furthermore, as good a quarterback and leader as Russell Wilson is, I do not believe his play style was such that it maximized Richardson’s effectiveness.  Wilson, who was under a ton of pressure this past season thanks to substandard offensive line play, frequently used his ability to run and scramble to extend plays; however, he rarely moved up in the pocket (the old “climbing the ladder” cliché), instead spinning and rolling out.  While that does extend plays and allowed him to scramble for significant yardage, specifically 586 rushing yards in 2017, the downside to that is that Wilson frequently misses reads, holds the ball so long that throwing windows have already closed, and cuts off half of the field as a result of his movement outside the pocket.  The film shows that consistently seeing and hitting tight windows just isn’t a strength of Wilson’s game, although he can do it when he stays in the pocket.  A true pocket passer, skilled in timing and rhythm, would be better able to utilize a receiver like Richardson, who relies on speed and quickness to create separation that can come and go quickly.  It appears, based on his $40M contract, that the Redskins feel similarly and believe that Alex Smith, who played in Andy Reid’s west coast-based timing system for the past 4 seasons, will allow Richardson to be more effective than he was with the Seahawks.

Richardson himself alluded to this in his introductory presser when he stated, “what stands out about Alex is he doesn’t have to leave the pocket. He can deliver balls on time in the pocket and then when he does scramble, he’s dangerous. He can go get the yards himself or he’s going to find whoever’s available that’s working with him to make the plays. So, they are very different quarterbacks, but I really appreciate Alex’s skillset. So, I think that it will help me grow as a receiver (emphasis added).”  Take particular note of the “deliver balls on time in the pocket” phrase – Richardson knows the negative effect of Wilson’s athleticism on his game. He further stated in that press conference, “[t]here wasn’t a lot of balls, there just wasn’t. There’s guys that have more targets in one season than I have had my whole career . . . .”  With the benefit of a week of hindsight, Richardson’s comments were remarkably honest and show that he’s looking forward to being more productive in Jay’s scheme and with a west coast expert like Smith at the helm who can best utilize his skillset.

Conclusion

What I see in Paul Richardson is a player whose ability outshines his production thusfar, and a player who should be able to accomplish more in Washington than he ever did in Seattle.   Don’t expect him to be a Desean Jackson clone, even though he will be expected to fill that role, because he is simultaneously both less and more than that.  As long as he can continue to work on his technique and try to limit his drops, he should become a valued and key member of the Redskins receiving corps.

Bruce is average at best. He doesn’t appear to have a savvy ability to trade or sign FAs that you feel the skins ended up improving the overall team. That being said, once we FT Kirk in 2016 how would the skins ever been able to trade him under the tag? Unlike Alex smith in KC, we didn’t have 1 yr remaining on his contract and full rights to easily make a deal/trade. Once that first FT was signed if felt like it had to be a LT deal or eventual release.

  • If the NFL actually enforces the no dropping your head rule it’s going to be flag football, meaning they’ll be about 15 PF penalties a game. That would be unwatchable. It will probably be another scenario where the rule is loosely enforced and nobody really knows what a penalty is

    • Montae Nicholson might get kicked out of the league with this rule. Dude needs to keep his head up

A lot of people like what the Rams are doing. Not sitting back congratulating each other on 11-5 season…they are going out…taking advantage of the rookie wages their QB is making and signing guys who are good…making their run now as opposed to later. I mean…a Superbowl win is a Superbowl win. Kinda like Seattle did. They got a lot of playoff appearances…2 Superbowls posts and one SB win.

    • I bet they make a run at obj

    • Josh RosenSquinns

That is one of the best strategies now for winning a SB. Get a rookie QB on the cheap, allowing you to spend more on the rest of the team. Once the QB gets his first big contract, hard to be able to put nearly as many playmakers in the positions.

Eagles tried to do it last year and got lucky because although they lost that QB on his rookie deal, Foles, the backup, played lights out down the stretch.

High paid QB’s can make it very difficult to build a supporting cast (unless you’re NE with Brady and Bellicheck).

      • Bad Reputation

yeah ever since Seattle paid RW…..they have been good but not great.

      • And Brady takes major team discounts

      • Back to the good ol daysBruce

Which makes Bruce not seriously considering drafting a young legit qb the last few years instead of Suzie Q. At least in the event Kirk left…You don’t want to be in the staterr QB market.

        josh,
        same with flacco in bmore.

      • if that truly is the recipe to a Super Bowl, then how come our Stellar front-office hasn’t figured that out yet but all of us that we are have?

      • Really who besides Denver has ever bought a SB?

    • Yeah trying to buy a super bowl, wont work though.

Tandler said on 106.7 the other day that IF we can trade Cravens it would be a 3 or 4th round conditional pick in the 2019 draft NOT this draft coming up in April.

Fwiw, if you listen to the JP Finlay interview with Bruce, it’s hard to disagree, or find fault, with anything he says, regardless of the past.

This is in no way an endorsement of flounder being right in his steadfast, if not blind, support of the Redskins front office, but let’s keep it honest.

    • The only thing I disagree with him on was the decision not to trade Kirk when they knew he wouldn’t sign last offseason

      • Bad Reputation

Yeah if we could have moved him for some picks that would have been the jam.

      • His response to that was “We were trying to win, we felt like Kirk gave us the best chance to win, at that time.”

        • Bad Reputation

          You mean Kurt

        • Yea, I saw that. Thing is though, unless you thought you were a SB contender, and I’m not sure how they could have with that roster, then you get as much value as you can. You wouldn’t have gotten what you wanted but probably more than a maybe 3rd round compensatory pick.

          • Sure, and I’m not gonna be the “Monday morning Quarterback”, he even said, “regardless, we went 7-9, and that’s what it is”, so he’s being realistic about the outcome, just not breaking down the failure, which is a conversation we as fans aren’t likely privy to anyway. Fwiw

      • when was that, though. After the draft? Before the draft? Two weeks before the July deadline? What trade value did he have? Couldn’t trade him during the season like Garrapolo because Cousins was on the tag. Cousins would have had to agree to a deal with another team for a kind of sign and trade, and that would have had the most value before Free Agency and certainly before the draft. On the tag, maybe San Fran gives you what they gave for Jimmy.

  • More Tandler…Skins never considered a draft prospect QB to replace Kirk…lol. Go figure. And they prob draft another RB in the 4th rd too…

    • part of that was probably the realization that it would make it more difficult to sign him

  • 4″ of rain overnight. That’s a good soaking. Back yard is a lake.

  • I really dont know of any team who would want OBJ and his on field off the field antics and tantrums…I really dont.

    • You’re out of your daggone mind.

      -Jerry Jones

(Wouldn’t you “trade” …roster spot and salary… OBJ for Dez Bryant?)

  • I definately soured on Cravens last year like everyone else…and I see lotta folk think Cravens isnt worth a 2nd pick in trade value etc. ..I disagree. I think if you cant get a 2nd or high 3rd in trade I think there is a good chance he plays like a 2nd rounder in ’18. Especially w the new convoluted helmet rule passed yesterday. If cant move him now…keep him and let him compete before jumping the gun…

    • What do you do with him? You put him where a Telvin Smith or presumably, Roquan Smith would play?

Send him to Nebraska for 2 months, have him put on 10 lbs of muscle and explosion and have him at ILB @ 226 lbs. And then, send him to Parris Island for Marine boot camp, and then he’d be ready for training camp.
“How you feeling today, Sue?” -Will Compton (suspend disbelief for a moment)
“Kill kill kill kill kill” – S Cravens
      “Now you’re ready”

But I do like that. Harold Landry at OLB, maybe Trumaine, and Cravens alongside Brown. And then maybe Swearinger calls the D? Got some more speed out there. First thought though, is that I’m running to that side if I am the other team, but that’s why maybe Ioannidis plays the DE on that side and then you have Allen and Kerrigan coming from offenses right side.

Of course the real problem with this, is when Cravens gets to rush the QB and goes full metal jacket on the QB’s corpse. That’s prob going to be a fine and 15 yards in this new NFL.

  • Mcphee has 14 sacks over the last 3 years as a backup or situational starter and is better against the run then Galette

    • Your boy Bruce is the man !

      • Rich Tandler w an interesting take on roster churn yesterday ( I call it turnstiles )…. like 16? diff starters/players from ’16 to ’17…and ’17 to ’18 could be 13 or so diff starters.. so I guess that makes like what ..15 to 25 diff starters and rotators in 2 years? Hard to build stability and a consistent or even a 1 year winner like that. Unless you go all out like a Philly I suppose…

    • He’ll prob rotate with Smith and get 35-40% of the snaps. Just like Galette

I like maybe now Harold Landry in the first. I might like that more than a DB.

    • I’m fine with replacing Galette with McPhee but let’s not pretend like either one of them is an answer to anything. They’re both OK rotational players, that’s it.

  • Happy Wednesday

I’m def in the minority but I sort of liked the previous catch rule. Controlling the ball to the ground seemed logical. Now a guy can catch it, stumble (make a football move) and get blasted by a safety to the ground. Ball pops out and it’s a catch vs incompletion. IDK.

    • It will be a fumble.

    • I found the rule to be ridiculous when it came to goal-line calls. If a guy has control of a ball and crosses the goal-line it should be a TD immediately. If a RB reaches the ball across the goal-line it’s an immediate TD, doesn’t matter what happens at that point (like the ball getting slapped out of his hand before he is “down”). But if a guy making a catch around the goal-line extends the ball and otherwise appears to have control once the ball touches the goal-line, it is NOT a TD if he goes down to the ground and the ball then shuffles around and comes out. It made no sense that “going to the ground” somehow warranted a higher threshold for qualifying as a catch.

Kelly Ripa looks like a 12 yr old boy in that pic.

    • To me your first round pick needs to be an impact player. A guy who stands out. This is especially true in the top half of the draft. Take the very best player available.

    • My take one this interview vs. last year’s, Bruce sounds more confident, more relaxed. That’s a good thing. I knew JP Finlay was gonna be the guy, congratulations rookie, thanks for fixing the telegraph wire that WaPo cut down.

  • Sports journalists are questioning whether Jon Gruden can adapt to the new NFL after being away from coaching since 2008. According to them, this is the Twitter world now, where judgment is harsh and anything can
be taken out of context. That’s already happened with Gruden this year,
even before he could officially meet with his players. In February, he
answered a question about analytics by saying he was trying to “take the
game back to 1998.” That was harped on as a sign he doesn’t get the era
of the read-pass option (RPO). I’d say 10 years in the booth, watching games and analyzing plays has shown him he could still put a team out there that could win.

    • We’ll have to wait and see. A lot of people say Jon Gruden is overrated. I don;t tend to agree with them. I’m not saying he’s a hall of famer… but he’s good.

      • He’s overrated in the aspect that he’s not the demigod people make him out to be, not that he’s a bad football coach. Even bad NFL football coaches are better than 99% of football coaches. He’s not even a bad NFL coach, but he hasn’t proven he’s great, either.

  • One NFL rule change I’d make is on the stiff arm to the face mask. Anywhere else on the field if you touch a guys face mask you are penalized. But a RB can stick his hand in your grill and make your head go sideways without a penalty.

    • I think the rule is they can be flagged for it. But refs don’t.

      • I think they can be flagged if they grab it and turn your head. But anybody else would be called for illegal hands to the face if they were blocking, or rushing the passer, or trying to press a WR at the line of scrimmage or whatever and even brushed your face mask inadvertently.

Trump privately presses for military to pay for border wall
    ————————-

    idiot.

    • Trump isn’t doing this and you shouldn’t publish BS. There was a commentator who said Trump could declare the border security as a National crisis and take money from the Defense budget to fund the wall. NOW you’re up here saying he’s doing it. Idiot.

      • If Trump was a Democratic President, would you be feeling the same way about him?

        • Yes… he is one of the best Presidents I’ve ever served. Decisive leader who puts the rest of the world on notice. Always deals from a position of power. Doesn’t give a shit about what the media thinks or says.

          • No you wouldn’t . If he was a democrat he would be doing little that you agree with . Certainly not securing the border

          • I have to qualify my comment I guess Buck. If he was a Democrat President doing the things he’s doing, and taking the stands he’s taking, then I would support him. Of course it isn’t likely a Democrat politician would be that way.

          • I know . Just throwing that in there .

” Trump, who told advisers he was spurned in a large spending bill last week when lawmakers appropriated only $1.6 billion for the border wall, has begun suggesting that the Pentagon could fund the sprawling construction, citing a “national security” risk.

After floating the notion to several advisers last week, he told House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) that the military should pay for the wall, according to three people familiar with the meeting Wednesday in the White House residence. Ryan offered little reaction to the notion, these people said, but senior Capitol Hill officials later said it was an unlikely prospect.

Trump, who told advisers he was spurned in a large spending bill last week when lawmakers appropriated only $1.6 billion for the border wall, has begun suggesting that the Pentagon could fund the sprawling construction, citing a “national security” risk.

        • What Trump says, and what people say he says are often very different things. Trump was NOT happy with the budget he had to sign to keep the country going. The concessions in it to the Democrats was WAY more than he wanted. He is completely dissatisfied with the Republicans and their inability to get his agenda moving. He may (or may not) have made a statement that he could take the money out of the Defense budget (which he actually could) but this is a far cry from the comment he’s privately pressing for the military to build the wall. Complete and utter BS from the media.

          • Walter was right about Trump’s suggesting the military could pay for it. Hope’s a bigger shill for Donald than he was for Kurt.

      • I put wif on ignore a while ago

        All he does is whine

        hope,
i was calling trump an idiot, one for wanting to build a wall and two, for imagining the military would pay.

note that you just called ME an idiot. see how that goes?

        • Because you pushed that wrong information out as if it was fact. You acted idiotically.

          • walter_in_fallschurch

sorry, not sorry, the factual info i posted reveals that trump is an idiot.

          • Except it’s not factual so your conclusion that the President is an idiot is idiotic.

          • walter_in_fallschurch

            cling tightly, hope. cling tightly.

          • Try being truthful and not posting media spin and BS. The truth is Trump is pushing National security initiatives that Americans recognize as prudent.

          • walter_in_fallschurch

the TRUTH is trump wants to build a wall – which is idiotic. he’s recently floated the idea that the military could build it, which is also idiotic.

          • Still need to patrol 2,000 miles of border, at a time where we have net negative migration across the border.

          • Microwave alarms, ban amplified HAM radios.

          • The wall is a sensible and prudent. Would you leave your door unlocked when you’re not home?

          • walter_in_fallschurch

“The wall is a sensible and prudent. ”

            hahahhahahahahhahahhahahahhahahaaaaa…. hahahahahahahahahaha.

            yes, you’re right.. smdh.

    • President Trump apparently did suggest this via tweet and otherwise, at least according to the Washington Post. CNN also posted an article to this effect, but they aren’t a credible news source anymore.

First of all, I suspect that this is just one of the president’s off the cuff thoughts, but if it’s not, I strongly disagree with taking this money out of the military budget when DoD has been budget-starved for many years in things like acquisition and other areas. Plus, off the top of my head, I’m not sure if it’s even legal for the active duty military to build a border wall.

But again, I suspect this is just a presidential musing more than anything else.

      • Stirring the shit pot. Imagine………..the Army Corps of Engineers would build a grand wall, a fabulous monument to our holy might, and ppppoooowwwwwweeeeerrrrrrrrrrr!

        • Each segment of the Wall should have prominent signage, reading:

“This section brought to you by budget cuts to the Forest Service, Education, NEA, etc, etc.”

          • Like the highway maintenance signs we have in VA. It should be financed with spoils of war, IMO

      • Trump will never sacrifice the Defense budget for the wall. He WILL hang this on every politician who failed to support the wall regardless of party though.

  • Beef stew in the crock pot .

    • That sounds good… love homemade beef stew.

    • Nice. Anything crazy with it or keeping it simple?

      • Simple . Potatoes , carrots , onion .

        • little celery

          • can’t go wrong with the classics.

          • Nope . I do all the cooking and basically I just fix the things I grew up on . Every once in awhile i’ll venture outside my comfort zone and actually use a recipe . I kind of enjoy it.

          • One thing I recommend to people who like cooking but are in that kind of comfort zone space and wanting to change it up once in a while.

Try getting one of those blue apron type deals, to get some easy recipes that are outside what you are usualy cooking. I started doing it time to time because like you, I’ve probably got 20 things I can make, and do from memory all the time. But that stuff can get you to mix in some Asian cooking or what have you.

          • I do get tired of the same things . When I try a new recipe which isn’t often , have to go the grocery store for specific items that I don’t normally keep. So it takes a little planning . I tried a couple things from the Pioneer Woman . My wife laughed at me for watching a cooking show but she didn’t mind eating it .

          • That’s why I liked doing the box thing, they send you everything you need except things like salt and oil.

          • That’s a good idea .

  • I should stay home on a Tuesday more often…

  • walter_in_fallschurch

OF COURSE, geographically, the term “mid west” should mean kansas, colorado, nebraska and wyoming. one could make a case for the dakotas, and maybe texas, oklahoma and new mexico.

but, in real life, when people say “the midwest” they, oddly, mean minnesota, wisconsin, michigan, iowa, indiana and illinois. maaaaybe ohio and missouri.

(is it really “disappointing” if you expect it?)

      • The DC government doesn’t want it and doesn’t like the Redskins name, the Feds would have to do a new lease for the property, and the local residents don’t want it.

        • walter_in_fallschurch

that was the old dc govt. we don’t know what the climate will be like 5-8 years from now. as for the feds and the lease business – work that ish out.

          • DC has been asking to buy the land from the Feds for a while now.
Trump administration is blocking it for some reason

          • What motivation does the federal gov’t have to sell the property, no doubt at a discount, when they can continue to hold a revenue stream?

          • They also have to do the upkeep on all the land as it is. It wasn’t just RFK that they were trying to get, they were asking for a few parks that the city was going to take over and take care of.

League trying to come up with a “targeting system” to avoid helmet to helmet hits….if they force tacklers to go lower…it’s just gonna cause more lower body injuries….ACLs, Achilles, damned if you do damned if you don’t. It’s a rough game, players are gonna get hurt.

    • What is it that they were doing in Seattle? Rugby tackling?

      • Yeah, but the douchebags acted like they invented it.

        • Still, on principle that’s a safer way to tackle

          • We used to hurt football players regularly at tryouts, the ones that showed up with attitudes. A few of the guys adjusted very well, though. A Cornerback, RB, and a Linebacker.

    • I think they just need to let them play football, but if they’re going to worry about it, a penalty needs to go both ways – RBs lower their helmet all the time. I also don’t think a defender should be penalized if he’s already trying to aim low and movement by the ball carrier makes helmet to helmet contact unavoidable.

      • I do because the skins are gonna try and keep up with the Joneses at some point.

        • Also you do our sports business show. YOU should care about what stadiums are costing, that’s part of the job.

          • YOU should know that Stan Kronke is paying for the overwhelming bulk of it himself, and if he wants to go nuts, feel free.

Also, understand that this dollar figure no doubt includes the surrounding commercial development. This place is supposed to be a destination, like LA Live where Staples Center is.

          • I do know that. Still doesn’t change the fact that it’s gonna set a bench mark for other stadiums as they are built around the nation, and in most cities that can’t pull a private backer like this, that’s gonna mean a lot of public funds.

          • I’m 100% in favor of commercial development like this. I think it’s great. That in no way means that any state or local government will fund something like this. They won’t. A stadium? Yes. An entire upscale commercial development with retail and restaurants? No.

          • If its private, fine. But we know some teams are gonna push for public funds.

          • Not like this, they won’t. And I’m okay with public funding for stadiums to a certain extent. Stan Kronke and Paul Allen might be the only owners (at least off the top of my head) who could finance a stadium project by themselves.

  • I actually am very happy to hear that the Redskins are finally making a needed upgrade to their medical facility. Fans have known forever that the rap is that nothing at Redskins park is the “NFL’s best”. So anything they are willing to finally put more money into improving is a great, great sign.

    • I don’t discount that as a good sign. All I am saying is that when you hear Scott Frost talk about Chip Kelly and how his teams are some of the least-prone to injury, he doesn’t talk about medical facilities.

      • Sure, and I agree with you, more conditioning would help. How do we improve that? A better weight room? More Yoga classes? Better diets?
It’s the same philosophy that I’m talking about really, you invest in those things to improve the on field performance.

The Constitution requires an “actual enumeration” of the number of people in each state. Asking about citizenship will dissuade response and therefore work against the constitutional mandate.
    ______________________________________

Oh, I’d be happy to take that argument up in court. You think the Consititution has in view that the state needs to act in a way to protect the anonymous status of illegals and keep them in the count for purposes of representative proportion? Puh-lease. You’d have to be drowning in progressive libby Kool Aid to push that.

    • He is…..ask anybody

    • California is indeed taking that tact. For every 700,000 or so illegals that don’t respond, they lose 1 Representative in Congress. Est are that what 12-16 million of them live in the US, fwiw, not sure how inaccurate those numbers are, but it is conceivable that California could lose out on Representatives and I would guess certain types of formula money.

      • Well, then they lose out. The point is that I’d be happy to argue that the Constitutional requirement for enumerating persons for purposes of representation did NOT have in view people who are in the country illegally. And I would further argue that refusing to ask people their citizenship or the purposes of keeping illegals anonymous does NOT further the Constitutional mandate.

      • Mike, you’re 1/2 right, Illgial immigrants are something like 6% of California, but they are also between 3-6% of every states population
So it may change -1 rep for CA, -1 for Texas, -1 for Florida, -1 for NY but it won’t be much. And places like the Dakotas and Wyoming are still only gonna have 1 rep because they don’t have anyone living there still.

        • It would be up to 3 for California (approx 2.1 million); but that’s all very hypothetical

for many states, 6% of their population wouldn’t trigger a difference, for the larger ones with higher %, it would.

    • Read it again. The Constitution requires a census to determine the actual enumeration of PEOPLE — not citizens — in each state. If you devise the census in such a way as to predictably make the enumeration less accurate, then you are not fulfilling your constitutional mandate, period. All the political garbage has no relevance to this.

      • I’ve read it D_C. And if you know anything about Consitutional Law, it’s not as simple as taking a single word and interpreting it as you would normally do so today in your own modern average context. The enumeration is being done for the purposes of apportioning representation in the government; if you think the mandate and the Framers who wrote it had in mind that they were including people illegally entering the country who do not have a right to be there in that calculation, then please…lay out the argument.

        • Because there is PLENTY of material showing the concern of the framers that their elections could be manipulated by foreign powers infiltrating the state (for example – the creation of the electoral college.)

        • As a rule the framers knew how to distinguish between all people and U.S. citizens, and they chose not to say citizens in this case. The fact is that non-citizens have *many* constitutional rights in the U.S. It’s also a fact that the census is taken not just for the determination of representation, but also for purposes of taxation. Again, by it’s own terms.

          • But you aren’t trying to protect “non-citizens”, you are trying to protect “illegals”. People who are legally in the US working and paying taxes as non-citizens are fine. You don’t want to ask about citizenship because you are concerned it will dissuade illegals from being counted in the census and you would then like those illegals to be counted for purposes of apportioning representation. That’s ridiculous and preposterous, and that is on its face contrary to the purpose of upholding the laws of the country. If anything it is subversive to it.

          • WTF? lol

          • You can always retreat.

          • From what? Still waiting for a single argument that passes the laugh test.

          • Right…… I’m renaming p1funk, Blitzkriegfunkengroovin

          • So you finally see that none of your arguments are anything other than laughable.

            That’s some progress at least.

          • Was gonna say the same thing SCamp… the king of faulty logic and false narratives looking for arguments that pass the laugh test? Oh the irony.

          • D_C doesn’t get it…

            SHOCKING!

          • Hey D_C…why do you think that Consitution at the time explicity EXCLUDED Indians not taxed from the count?

          • On a plane getting ready to take off. Trump will lose this fight.

          • Again with the false narrative. Trump has nothing to do with this. The Census Bureau created the survey record. Not Trump. More political BS the left is pushing to discredit the President. All a total false narrative as I said.

    • The Commerce Dept. is also making sure that Census enumerators are all ICE agents.

  • The Arena Football League has removed their commissioner Scott Butera, In his 4 years on the job he took the league from 14 teams down to 4. Good going Scott.

  • MFitzpatrick, everything points to future FS HOF.

No? You guys are fucking tilted.

  • Walterfootball:

    13. Washington Redskins: Minkah Fitzpatrick, S/CB, Alabama
    image: http://walterfootball.com/college/Alabama_logo.gif

I’ve had the Redskins taking Da’Ron Payne for a while, and I still believe he’s a very likely selection. However, that would change if Minkah Fitzpatrick falls to them. Fitzpatrick is a stud defensive back, and it would be difficult for Washington to pass on him.

And yes, it’s possible for Fitzpatrick to fall to No. 13. Teams will trade up for quarterbacks, and we’ve seen the safety market move very slowly in free agency. Plus, as Charlie Campbell reported in the NFL Hot Press, some teams have Derwin James rated above Fitzpatrick.

  • So would that Doctson non catch against KC been a catch this season? He had the ball with one knee down in the endzone.

  • Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.

    • does not explicitly say citizens, just free persons

      • Of course because you don’t have to be a citizen in order to be a taxable individual living/working in the country. But to oppose the notion that a government can tabulate citizenship info on a census – that’s utterly preposterous.

      • that’s why some Southern and Western states are careful with the immigration issue
it’s because the more um… almost legal… people living there, the more Congressional representation they get. I mean, in the case where someone were to start en masse deportations, California would lose several Representatives. Probably Texas too.

        • Several Red states actually lose out, Florida, Texas, New Mexico.
Thing is there’s a good chunk of iliigal immigrants in every state.

  • New catch rule, per PFT: “The new rule says that a ball is caught when the player has control, two feet or another body part down, and makes a football move such as a third step or reaching the ball toward the line to gain, or has the ball long enough to make such a move.”

  • We can’t sign JHanks, spent all the money on the new rehab center.

  • Progressives, states and civil rights advocates are preparing a flurry of legal challenges to the Trump administration’s decision to add a question about citizenship to the next census, saying the move will penalize immigrants and threaten civil rights.
    =====================================
California doesn’t want to lose votes in Congress when Trump says that representatives should be based on number of citizens in your state

    • When Trump says that? I thought that was the way it is?

    • There is nothing wrong with a government tabulating the number of citizens dispersed throughout the country via census. I mean, isn’t that “Government 101”? Finding out how many citizens you have and where they live?

    • I’m in favor of Southern California becoming it’s own country. Just get rid of those bozos all together. They already hate the United States and actively try to harm the country.

    • If this new census is able to penalize illegal immigrants, that’s a good thing. People who aren’t here illegally don’t have anything to worry about.

      • Would be a clear constitutional violation.

        • Would clearly be a good thing for the country. The fewer illegal immigrants, the better. Rooting out and getting rid of illegal immigrants is a duty of the federal government, not a constitutional violation.

        • What would be a clear constitutional violation? Getting citizenship info on a census?

    • Should have done it how old Ben Franklin had suggested and doled out representation proportional to the GDP of each state.

  • Re: Rams
Yeah, I hope they get Odell. The way that they are buying big name stars anywhere they can find them reminds me of another team that used to try to buy its way to a championship that way…

  • Folks wanna draft a rb in the first round with a coach who doesn’t really value the running game

    Okay 👌

    • We ran on something like 80% of first downs last year.

      • Actually we were 28th in the league in running on first down with a 23.7% rate. I think we ranked near dead last in the league in rushing yards on first down.

    • I think this is misdirection from the Skins. They seem to be trying too hard to let everyone know they really want a RB…IDK.

    • The coach has said the team is going to draft a RB

if you want an above average one, round 1 or 2 is where you are going to find one

    • The coach does value the running game. He said it, and he proved it via his playcalling last year.

  • In the second game of the season against the Rams, we came out in the first and second quarters and ran the hell out of the ball scoring TD’s with big runs and racking up something like 170 yards. Then two things happened. First Kelley went down to injury and second, the Rams began stacking the box and began mixing in some run blitzes. This strategy worked as Perine came in and didn’t do anything of note. it was fun watching the run game that first half though.

  • Texas Pro Day tomorrow. Hope the Redskins have some scouts there. Hell just take Redskins One there.

      • J. Gruden

        • Ah Jeremiah Gruden

          • Jebadiah

          • No Punt Intended

            Judas.

            – D_C

          • Jebadiah and Jeremiah Gruden, back in 1873 the first Gruden brothers moved out to the mid-west, they had migrated from Slovakia after the first King of Hungry had invaded their small town of Grustoniville and ordered that every man who could eat more than his weight of pirogi be beheaded.
They came to the US hoping to get to Ellis Island but wound up landing in Florida after a storm blew them off course. Jebadiah and Jeremiah decided to make their way to the mid-west after hearing rumor of a man in Indiana who legally married a chicken. They eventually settled in Kentucky starting a schnaps factory.

  • Rams are compileing a talented team. My hunch is that do alright by winning its devision, but will flop down the stretch.

  • We lost Murphy who had 1 good year and apparently that was thanks to steroids or some other PED so the test say. He also got an outrageous contract from Buffalo for his level of production.

We lost Galette who played one year out of 3 and had 3 sacks.

We lost Grant who was really not that good although people are trying to make him look like a HOF’mer now that he left.

We lost Breeland who now looks like he might not even play football this year.

We did trade Fuller which is a big loss but we needed a top level NFL QB which we have now.

None of these guys are hard to replace.

  • Josh RosenSquinns

In FA, you should look to stay even at most positions and make a decent upgrade at 1-2 positions.

    I don’t believe we’ve done that.

  • Do you want to have a chance to resign our up & coming guys? Like Schreff

y’all complained because all the 2014 guys are gone

the y’all want to leave no cap unturned signing FA’s

and then were does the money come from to resign our good young players?

  • Hankins has to want to sign here for a reasonable deal, you just don’t give guys a blank check.

    • No Punt Intended

Not a player in the history of sports wants to sign what a fan would consider a “reasonable” deal.

      • nor should they. Teams aren’t loyal to players, players should go for as much as they can

      • Well so far nobody seems to think he is worth what he wants I guess will see what he signs for,

        • No Punt Intended

You have not been paying attention then. I and many others who have read up on Hankins have all mentioned that he always (ALWAYS) waits to sign a contract so this waiting shit that many are griping about is actually par for the course. It says nothing at all about whatever offer the Skins may have presented Hankins with, rather, it’s his history.

          Keep your shirt on.

  • if you do not have a winning record and make the playoffs

in the NFL that always puts you on the hot seat

Shanny had 1 winning season and 3 awful seasons
Gruden has had 2 winning, 1 losing and 1 awful season

Gruden’s losing season was mainly due to injuries and with a few play here or there could have been a .500 season even with all the injuries

so in my eyes the team is making progress, slow progress

that being said this is a pivotal year, we must see bigger strides on the winning side of things, maybe even a playoff appearance

or maybe changes are needed in FO or coaching staff

    • No Punt Intended

Wow. She really scooped everyone with that insight into the Redskins’ personnel strategy!

      Give her an Emmy!

      • I was going to say it was a total “duh” but she did limit it to the end of the draft, which excludes the UDFAs, of which, certainly one will also be a RB. You heard it hear first!!!

        • No Punt Intended

It’s still a “duh” because of course we will have another RB here by then….or even another one after then…..or even another one after then too……

          Duh.

  • Well I’m stoked our organization is being fiscally prudent and acquiring mid tier players. I’m certain they will be sufficient to propel us THIS YEAR to the playoffs and beyond.

    • Right because paying huge for big time stars works so well.

    • I have to say that we somehow beat some very good teams last year and should have a beat a couple more with one of the most rag-tag rosters ever assembled. Lanier in particular stood out on the D line late in the year, batting down 3 passes in one game, including on the goal line to prevent a score by the Cardinals that would have given them the lead in the 4th quarter and the receiver uncovered in the end zone. Maybe the front office believes teams with more grit and lesser talent are the way to go.

      • fix the defense and we will be better assuming AS does as well as you know who…

        • Alex Smith is a very good QB. He’ll produce. The rest of the team must do its part though or Championships ain’t happening.

  • With both Morgan Moses and TWill not available for OTAs, I’m thinking it might not be a bad idea to draft Connor Williams or Mike McGlinchey, both OTs, and kick them to LG. Nsekhe is also injured. Need depth if any of those guys goes down.

  • No Punt Intended

Since Belicheat never answers any questions and just murmurs and mumbles while looking down…..just ask him if he’s banging any of his coaches or friends’ wives anymore.

  • So I wonder if when Jay and Jon are at these league meetings, do they do any weird Brothers Gruden bits? I could just see the two of them sitting across from each other at a conference table playing with a paper football.

  • i just refuse to give our FO the benefit of the doubt any longer they haven’t fielded a winning team in decades, certainly not a perennial one. Why assume they are doing the smart thing now regarding Hankins?

    • No Punt Intended

I hear you but there is also something to be said about a dude who – – when presented with a contract offer – – acts on it with even a minimal amount of enthusiasm to be coming on board.

I did all of the hiring for my company when we were starting out and when I presented someone with a written offer and they asked me to take a few weeks to think about it, I usually found a reason to rescind because I want people that want to be a part of our organization.

      • yes and players know perennial winners too. they aren’t as dumb as some like to think. How do we measure success as an organization? Should be wins and championships right? Well current leadership has to have earned at best a D.

        • No Punt Intended

For me, the clock doesn’t even start on measuring success until we have a QB we know who will be here.

          So for me, 2018 counts.

          • my friend, how long has Bruce been in the FO? I’m speaking to that record of failure.

          • No Punt Intended

Oh BA sucks royal elephant penis. No Doubt. Too busy hanging onto power to create an environment where those involved in the business dealings, scouting, personnel, etc., can work together harmoniously and push this team to being a consistently successful outfit.

          • ….and players recognize this too. Free agents and our own players.

          • No Punt Intended

If the money is right, that player’s agent will describe the team as the best destination they could hope for.

            That’s what’s real man.

          • Fo needs to get it done.

          • Well that’s the paradox here isn’t it NPI? The FO has established valuations (price points) on players they won’t budge from but as you correctly state, we’re really in a position where a good player would only consider coming here if the money is right.

          • What do you mean?

            -Brucie

          • No Punt Intended

But for a position of need, that price point can slide and I am sure the Skins made an offer they felt was a little high because of that specific need and the effectiveness of the FA in question, Hankins.

If they are sticking to their guns, should we not be applauding them?

          • I think we should applaud them when they put a team on the field capable of winning Championships.

          • Yes, definitely, in this case.

          • sure, save money and keep losing… sounds like a plan

            jk

          • Bruce is a pretty decent team president. What he sucks at is the GM role. They need to hire a real, full-time GM and let him do his thing. That could’ve been Doug Williams.

          • how do you measure him as pretty decent? What is the calculus?

          • In traditionally structured NFL front offices, the team president doesn’t get too involved in football personnel decisions – really only things like approving an Alex Smith-type trade, contract negotiations with a 1st round pick, stuff like that. A team president oversees the business side, deals with sponsorships, interacts with the local political puh-bahs, deals with the owner, stadium issues, etc. By all accounts, the Redskins are in and have been in good shape on those fronts. It’s the on the field product that hasn’t been good, and I’m just telling you that the GM does that stuff on most teams.

          • Yes and who would decide to have or not have a GM?

          • Dan Snyder

          • Bruce, the President has no voice?

          • Dan Snyder is the owner and the guy who decides the structure of management. Of course Allen has a voice, but ultimately, that sort of thing is on the owner, first.

    • Why do people think the Redskins franchise is going to find the edge of the flat planet earth and drive straight off said edge if a DT who’s been available two years in a row, was released by the awful Colts, has never been an All-Pro or a Pro Bowler, and wants a large contact, doesn’t become a Redskin?

This DL is better than people think. Jonathan Allen was making a huge difference before he was injured. Yes, they need someone, but no, they shouldn’t sell the farm to get one.

      • No Punt Intended

        Never fear…Lanier…is here!

      • Josh RosenSquinns

And then Jonathan Allen went out and the Dline stank. Have to count on injuries. The rest of the Dline are Jags (even the Greek). Can’t rely on one player to make or break the entire Dline. And, right now, we do.

Monstrous to have both Hankins/Allen in. If one goes out, though. you’d still be left with an above average Dline.

        • Ion got injured, too. It wasn’t just Allen

          • Josh RosenSquinns

Fair point. Though, I think the Greek was in there uninjured for a spell and they weren’t that good. And, I know everyone loves him, but the Greek is likely just a JAG (which is still a good value for a fifth rounder).

        • I’m not saying they shouldn’t find someone; I’m saying that all of this handwringing over Hankins – and it isn’t just you guys; we get bombarded with it on Twitter, too – is a bit over the top considering the circumstances. Truthfully, a wise draft selection will accomplish the same thing.

          • Josh RosenSquinns

            Yes. Vita Vea.

But, where have we really improved on defense in the offseason? At best, we’ve kept even on defense (and more likely gotten slightly worse so far).

          • Josh RosenSquinns

And, if we spend a draft pick on Dline, that’s a draft pick we can’t use to upgrade another position like RB, Guard, etc.

          • draft picks are uncertain

      • Pay attention to our division to see why we need him. and don’t assume things like selling the farm. He’s a proven commodity at a position of need on our team. I like many draft DT prospects but they’ve never played a down in the NFL. Some will exceed and others will fail to meet expecatations. Hankins, is proven. Period.

        • No Punt Intended

I think the team is also weighing (pun intended) Hankins as a Skin against drafting a D-line stud at pick #13. With the mad dash for QB’s in the first round and Barkley a lock to be taken that means at #13 the Redskins are looking at a D-line player who might well have deserved to be a top-5 pick.

          I kind of dig that.

          • I’d prefer they did both, get Hankins and draft a dt

          • No Punt Intended

            I wouldn’t hate that either.

          • Me neither, but they have crisis needs at both LG and RB which are both more important, to me. One way or the other they need to fill those holes.

          • I’m with you on lg, rb by committee in Grudens offense, with a better lg, line play, will suffice until next year

          • No it won’t. This team has one of the very worst running back situations in the league. It’s a disaster.

          • Gruden doesn’t run the ball to set up the pass, it’s the opposite. With better, less injured offensive line play, we will be fine. The offense wasn’t the problem for us the last few years. Defense needs to be addressed in a big way

          • Gruden 100% wants to do that. The team wasn’t capable. The only significant resource they’ve spent on RBs in many years is the 3rd rounder on Matt Jones, and he was a total bust. It’s high time they brought in an elite talent at RB. It’s critical.

          • It isn’t if you measure by offensive output. Your statement doesn’t hold water. How many rushing yards did we allow last few years? How many game winning drives did we allow? Our defense has been the problem.

          • Dude, Gruden tried hard to feed Perine, and wanted to do it with Kelley, but those two were either hurt or not good. Gruden’s flat-out said as much, and both Williams and Gruden and stressed the need for a RB several times recently.

          • I’m not saying we couldn’t use better rb’s I am saying in spite of their jag status, and horrific instability of line play, our offense did enough to win more games had the defense stopped a few teams.

          • Going into our 9th game last year we had had 26 different offensive starters. 26. There’s only 11 guys on that side of the ball.

          • exactly

          • No Punt Intended

I want a drafted RB before a LG. Might even be able to pick of a FA G or a FA RT who can move up and down the line.

      • Because they are idiots

  • No Punt Intended

Sean McVay thinks he’s Jon Gruden.

    • They are going to have an interesting team this year… it could either go very well or very bad.

      • could depend somewhat on the emergence of the 9ers

      • No Punt Intended

I think they take their division. Janine Garrafalo in SF is bound to have some bad games and the talent level on the Niners is still pretty shitty. The Seahags have been raided during FA and the Cards have no QB.

The Rams should be expected to run away with the NFC West this season.

        • The Cards have a QB who will last either 1 quarter or one game depending on which opponent they play first

    • Jon Gruden is overrated.

  • A former Richmond man was ordered to serve five years in prison for torturing a woman he was romantically involved with by sending her disturbing images and threatening email messages, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas announced Monday.

You know how the Redskins always seem to lose players to other teams who then go on to contribute if not lead their new team to a Super Bowl? Well, for once we signed someone else’s up-and-comer and Paul Richardson is just that; a player who was poised to break out in Seattle.

At least, that’s what I am hoping is happening here……

    • I honestly didn’t think that when I started preparing for this piece, but after watching his film, I think the Redskins got it right as long as he can limit the drops.

      • The drops are my big concern. I’ve seen him make some fantastic catches, but they were on soft passes that were floating. I’m hopeful that he can snatch passes, but I haven’t seen him do that.

  • I think this is one of my better columns.

  • Also re Hankins and other free agents

the front office has done valuations on various players and will not go over that price point

if the player can get more money elsewhere, we’re not going to sign them

so my advise is don’t go bat-shit crazy if we do not sign Hankins
