so glad to be not participating in the qb musical chairs game. we got ours. you guys go ahead and overpay for whoever you want.

    • We did participate, we just were the first one to jump and sit down. Maybe did it before the music stopped.

    • It’s more of a cake walk

    • *smash cut*
and with that TD, Kirk Cousins breaks the single-season TD record for QBs… in only the first half of game 14…. only to be beaten by Case Keenum by the end of the day.

…and back to Redskins news… now down to Joe Bob Biggins, with Bob Joe Wiggins going down, their 4th QB on IR…
You’d have thought they figured out the LG position by mid-season, but they have not, this last week, they started Chris Thompson there and to no avail…

  • Throwing a balled up piece of tinfoil at someone while yelling ‘LIGHTNING BOLT!” is one of life’s simple pleasures.

    • You should try doing it and shouting “hadouken!”

How about them Wildcats throwing that basketball in the net last night. One of life’s simple pleasures.

      • VillaSquinns Nation

Yes, I am going to be more obnoxious than usual today…

        • all kidding aside, if Neb had made the sweet sixteen (and this was a year they had a team to do it… finishing 4th in the B1G and since their reputation preceeded them… they didn’t get an NCAA invitation or a home game in the NIT, meaning that someone thought that at least 16 teams were better in the NIT than they were, even WITH the understanding that Neb always sells out their arena), I would have been unbearable, let alone one of those Glen Rice-type (James Palmer going off) Michigan runs to a Title. I would have taken a day off from work (partly because I’d have had to go to a bar to watch the game). UN-bearable. So you get today.

For tomorrow is the next season.

      • it’s a great conditioning sport for the summer sports

      loving me some alex smith.

    • I’d not pay him that money. I’ve never once thought to myself, “I wish the skins had Matt Ryan at QB.” I know he’s a good QB, but I’ve never envied the Falcons for having him like I do the Pats, Saints, Steelers or Packers, for their franchise QB’s.

      • Bad Reputation

If the Falcons had not choked in the SB…Ryan would be in the convo for elite. His stats say he’s up there. Throw in a championship…there you got it.

        • I don’t think it’s just that lack of a ring. Something about his personality I just never dug, he feels way more like Kirk Cousins, or Carson Palmer.

    • Hope not.

      -Green Bay

    • In that case I’m gonna hold out- KC

  • Will the Redskins sign another FA till after the draft?
    I say no.

      Nope

And Nationally we are getting killed for a “lackluster” offseason. Seen a power ranking had us at #26 in the NFL going into the season.

    • they’re close to where you’d want to be for the 90-man going into the draft, but I say they sign about 2-4 more players, and about that many get cut during UDFA signings

  • VillaSquinns Nation

Villanova won the National Championship. WHY HAVEN’T WE SIGNED HANKINS YET?

    • Simple answer. They don’t think they really need him.

      • VillaSquinns Nation

Sorry, but Gruden thought Joe Barry would make a better DC than Wade. Excuse me if I don’t trust our FO’s judgment. Also, look what happened when Allen went down last year. Really altered our entire D (for the worse).

        • Someday I’d love a chance to ask Gruden off the record about that hire.

        • look at what happened to the entire defense when Allen, Nicholson, Foster, Brown, Norman, Compton, Ioannidis…

    • Bad Reputation

Thinking they get Da’Ron in Da Draft.

    • We’re going to get him on draft weekend

  • Colts wanted Marcus Davenport, gave us the entire second round, lol

Nova now has as many national championships as the Skins have rings!

    • Who would have thought Northern Virginia Community College would be so good at college basketball.

    • Congrats to ‘Nova..
…for beating the 5th best team in the B1G…

      • Got to wonder, how is it that the NCAA struggles to have any playoff system with no flaws?

        • We have a pretty good one.

          -NCAA Men’s Baseball Tournament

          • It’s popular, but it’s highly flawed. You just said it your self, they ended the season the 5th best team in the B1G. I would stipulate that an un-flawed system doesn’t even let them in the playoffs.

          • First step would be that all conference teams play at least a home and home balanced schedule against every team in their conference. Then, Michigan probably finishes 4th in the B1G, but still…

          • Well I didn’t realize they actually won the B1G conference as a 5th seed, which sounds wrong to me.
Also I wish the NCAA conferences would force the Big 10, Big 12 to change the numbers or come up with more original names, so it makes sense given that they have 14 teams and 10 teams.

          • dig deeper into it, and yes, Michigan got hot at the right time, but part of the story seems to be MSG

you have to play a game at MSG if you want to play a game at MSG.

Michigan’s first game at MSG in the conf tourney they stunk–shooting the ball, and a lot of teams did. Nebraska and Michigan are pretty even teams, and Michigan played well in their 2nd game, but Nebraska stunk (their first game), went 1 for 20 mid 1st half. Penn State also played an extra game and also did well in the conf tourney, and then won the NIT, which plays it’s final 4 and champ at… …MSG. Maybe Michigan still wins the conference tourney if they play in Indy or Chicago, but MSG sure seemed to impact both tournaments. Maybe what you need to do is play a tournament in MSG early in the year and you’re golden the rest of the way? You know, if you can dodge a wrench…

          • VillaSquinns Nation

Alex, they were a number three seed. They were getting into the field of 64.

      • VillaSquinns Nation

Had to get through Kansas to get there, too. Beat two #3 seeds and #1 seed. And, owned all of them along the way.

        • Now should have to play Penn State at MSG to decide once and for all who is the greatest nation on the Earth…. Portugo or Mexico!!!??!!!

I still find it interesting, that for the most part, if you want to be good at football you have to have some form of red in your colors, and if you want to be good at basketball, you have to have blue.

          • Well those are the two most common colors teams use in all of sports. Something like 2/3rds of all sports teams in the US use red or blue as their team color.

          • Years ago I made a chart of every pro-teams official home uniform/team color.
            https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a7eb9ed07fffeddc85a8ac646f4475a53fcdee16aaf7b460e800c31e9dbdc390.jpg

As you can see, a lot of blue and red in there. If I remember correctly hockey I think was the 1 sport where you had the most variety.

          • walter_in_fallschurch

pretty cool graphic. is that pro everything (4 major sports) or just football? not a lot of deep red. gosh i love the skins colors.

          • I think that it was pros for all 4 major sports. I did it about 5 years ago, so there’s probably some changes by now. Yes, very few teams have a burgundy type red, way more light or cherry red out there.

          • red angers up the blood and those from the more puritanical (historically speaking) ancestry, who emphasized formal education highly, tend to be the blue teams. Kansas was settled by abolitionists from the North, for example. So, that’s just one example, but I wonder if you go across the spectrum if the preference sets a precedence in each conference and the also-rans later choose the blue or red to be opposite of the dominant, thus the peoples who are puritanical but dominant chose blue, and then red followed suit later. Or, could it be possible that early on it affected play, and that being cool and collected aids practice and play for basketball, while angry red aids (or did aid) football? Both? Conspiracy theories unite!

          • It could also be that Red has better contrast against green grass, than some other colors so it would be easier to tell your team apart in a fast paced game like Football.

      • Michigan was clearly the best team in the Big 10

        • they had an advantage in playing in MSG 1 extra game before playing any of the top half of the conference in the conf tournament, and that mattered a lot for both Michigan and Penn State, because first time playing MSG teams laid a lot of brickage. Both did well in the conf tourney. The way the B1G conf tournament works is that there are 2 byes for the top 4 teams, and Neb had the tie-breaker on Michigan (they blew out Michigan at home, but the unbalanced schedule meant they didn’t play again). I think Penn State could have prob won the conference tournament if they had been the 5th seed.

Some draft analysts think that there is going to be a lot of day 1 trades. Could be an epic night.

    • All these new GM’s think they are Kev Costner

    • we might be remember (emphasize) last year too much, maybe this year teams go more medium

especially if Buffalo makes another move before the draft

  • Josh Allen is going to get a GM and coach fired.

    • That’s what they said about Carson Wentz.

      • part of it will matter what offense he has to play in; and the players around him

I don’t see Allen as a Weeden or Manziel

      • Not even a comparison. Wentz was a multiple national champion lesser competition. Allen was an average QB against lesser competition.

        • though, Wentz’s teams were NC before he got there too; so relatively speaking, he didn’t have to do it himself

        • Different_Cat

Wentz’s teams were a lot m ore talented than the ones Allen had. Wentz was also 3 yrs. older than Allen.

I was as skeptical as anyone about Allen at the start of this process, but I’ve been impressed by the improvements he’s made in his mechanics and touch. Still — he’s a very high ceiling, low floor guy. I wouldn’t take the chance in the top 4 picks.

    • Bad Reputation

Cleveland def destined to take him at 1 lol

    • Always blaming it on someone else.

  • GO BLUE!

Which now virtually guarantees they’ll lose

  • Do the Nats have a chance at re-signing Harper?

    • He’s gonna command between three and four hundred million dollars

And his stats just don’t bear it out

    • No Punt Intended

My belief is that they are the favorite, given what’s now happening with the Spankees.

    • Harper is a great player to have alongside a great leader. Harper is a guy who gets on base and gets into scoring position for the clutch cleanup team leader guy to get the game winner in September and October. Hustle guy. I think it’s that other guy you pay the huge $$$ to. And that guy is prob D Murphy on this team right now. The real problem is, that Harper is becoming the age where he might go on a 7-8 year run where he becomes that guy. So, do you give him a 10 year deal for 400 mil? And who is another team that could have a local TV deal re-up soon that might find it worth it? (the Phillies and Dodgers are in the fairly early stages of a 25 year local deal, for example, so Harper would not help them get more money from those, unless they have “performance” clauses). The Dodger’s deal averages 334 mil per year and they have had problems with getting cable operators to sign up. Maybe a Harper deal makes them more interested?

    • Heard one guy say that they do, because teams these days are less interested in paying big money, and losing draft picks to sign a top talent like Harper, he would push to many top teams into the luxury tax range, that they don’t wanna be in.

  • Buck…

You know Michelle Obama’s “thing” was “Let’s Move”…so they would invite several elementary school kids and administrators to the White House for games and activities. They held me and my students and teachers in one room that leads to the South Lawn. She comes in and speaks to us and it was awkward because I didn’t know how to greet her. I extended my hand for a hand shake, but she went for a hug…

We went out to an organized relay race with folks from different agencies around the area, Redskins included. My team was slightly behind and Michelle had already been tagged so I had to play catch up but not by much. I said I would lay back and not look all competitive, but SHE WAS! I tried to catch her but couldn’t…REAL STORY.

….highlight of my career. I have a pic…I will post when I find it.

Harper, explodes a blast to deep, deep center field for a 3 run nuclear bomb.

  • Harper does it again.

  • No Punt Intended

    Nats blog, still funny.

  • I’ve been invited to the White House 4 times…once during the Bush administration, and 3 times during the Obama administration…even hugged the first lady and raced her in a relay race.

This may surprise you, but if Trump invited me, I would go out of respect….but I ain’t doin’ no dishes or cookin’ no food. 🙂

2 – 0 Nats in the top of the 1st. Harper scored on a close play at the plate.

  • I worked with a guy who lived next door to a retired military officer . The guys wife still went to work everyday , and my friends wife didn’t work . Every time she would get outside and work in the yard , (she did all the yard work, don’t ask me how a guy a gets that lucky) the guy stared at her from his upstairs window . Eventually the guy started pulling out his junk and playing with it while in the window and she could clearly see it . Long story short , they called the cops and they set up a sting , I guess you could call it . They caught him in the act of doing it .

    • When the cops knocked on his door he wouldn’t answer . His wife came home and let the cops in. He was hiding in the attic. True story .

  • A district judge in Long Island is in jail after admitting to police he repeatedly broke into his neighbor’s home to steal her underwear.

Officials say Suffolk County District Judge Robert Cicale has been removed from the bench and faces up to fifteen years in prison. The married father of three young children was arrested for burglary.

  • I thought Vigil was faster than Compton and better in coverage.

  • The Redskins also have Harvey-Clemmons, a young talent, but yes, we need to draft someone.

    • Zach Vigil can give them what Compton did .

      • No Punt Intended

Vigil was always near the ball and always seemed to get there quickly.

        • I thought he played really well , considering he came in there cold . He hadn’t played since the preseason . Like you said he was constantly around the ball. Harvey Clemmons has the potential to be really good I think . He needs a defined role , whether it be obvious passing situations or whatever .

    • I don’t think Harvey-Clemons is in the mold of a traditional ILB – to me, he’s more of a hybrid nickel backer / safety.

  • I found out definitively that a man I’ve called a friend for over 40 years is not a friend at all. He never calls me, never visits me and only comes to events like birthday parties. We got together last week for some drinks and wings and all he could point out was my shortcomings and feed his ego…told me he only has sex with two women at a time…I mean, real juvenile crap.

My wife has been trying to tell me he is not my friend for 25 years.

  • Will Compton is signing with the Titans.

  • catching the end of “Remember the Titans” on TV. “Run it up, Herman! Leave no doubt!”

    • noonefromtampa

you get OTAs (9-10 days) and 1 contact practice a day at training camp up to X days max (like 22)

  • problems with ‘Skins run game

    poor LG
blown run game blocking assignments by OL
    lack of vision/burst from RB’s

    upgrade OL
practice run plays more in camp/practices
    upgrade RB

    • I’m convinced that the upgrade RB part is going to happen in the first couple of rounds.

      • Won’t do a whole lot of good unless they 1) You know, actually call run plays and 2) fix the LG position

      • walter_in_fallschurch

i think the skins tried to run a fair amount last year. they just did not do it every well.

    • this is not the road to any top-of-the-league rushing attack, just the way to a functioning run game to set up play-action/misdirection. too many blown blocking assignments, especially on short yardage, and when the OL did make a hole, the RB’s wouldn’t see it.

      • …and when we did run effectively, we almost immediately went away from it.

        • No Punt Intended

That page in the playbook with the play where we run to the left on first down for -1 yard?

Yeah, tear that page out and shred it please. Thank you.

        • Defense giving up TDs forcing them to play from behind . Not conducive to a run game either . It’s been the perfect storm basically .

It’s going to be fine. The certainty that will come will stabilize the markets again. Only pussies cry about a correction every one of the smart people knew was coming all along. It’s all good. The markets are going to be just fine and get even stronger because of the US taking – not asking for, but taking – a position of such strength.

The markets will like that and you can book that all the way down the line.

Nicolas Cage racked up a $13.3 million tax debt after failing to pay his debts to the IRS in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008. The actor blamed his former business manager for the mishap, claiming he was not aware of the situation.

  • Student Loan debt is $1.5 trillion, higher than credit card and Auto loan debt. Amazing.

I worked my way through college (when it was far more affordable) and left college with about $3k in Student loan debt. Paid that sucker off within 2 years.

IMO, this level of indebtedness has the potential to trigger some huge problems. Hopefully not.

      College ain’t for erryone.

But there are enough opportunities for student aid, tax breaks, low interest loans and of course many people worked – sometimes multiple jobs – and still graduated.

  • Back to the good ol daysBruce

Here in Mass (or the towns I’ve voted in) do not require IDs to vote. Just have to state name and address and they’ll check you off some list before and after the physical vote is complete.

    • Photo ID required in Austin. I bring my voter registration card, but they never ask for it. They check me against the voter rolls, and admit me.

    • There’s no excuse for not having 100% of voters show an approved photo ID. To be against it is to just be playing partisan politics.

      • Same for gerrymandering?

        • Of course that’s what gerrymandering is all about, for both parties. Duh.

          • And it needs to go away, for both parties.

          • That isn’t going to happen, ever.

          • And kill Citizens United while you’re at it.

          • Citizens United isn’t anywhere near as evil a decision as some would have you believe. It’s actually pretty limited.

          • It gives corporations and unions the green light to spend unlimited sums on ads and other political tools, calling for the election or defeat of individual candidates.

What could possibly go wrong with that?

          • You need to carefully read the opinion word for word. The SC was actually correct.

          • What’s correct about it?

          • I’m not going to turn this forum into a detailed legal discussion of Citizens United. It would take far more than a few blog comments. Believe what you want.

          • Just checking. Didn’t think you knew.

          • That was rough. Let me rephrase. Without getting into a protracted legal discussion, just give me ONE reason why you believe the SC decision was actually correct.

          • **crickets**

          • Hey, buddy, have you even read the opinion? I have. I doubt you have.

          • People who support gerrymandering love to cheat.

Let the chips fall where they may.

      • Different_Cat

This is total nonsense. First, there is NO EVIDENCE of any kind of meaningful, in-person voter fraud, so off the bat you have to ask yourself why Republicans want to inconvenience hundreds of thousands of Americans who don’t valid photo IDs. The obvious answer is Republicans are trying to suppress the Democratic vote because most of the people who lack proper ID are low income, and most low income people are Democrats.

        • Now if you really want to fix the problem, mandatory voting laws is the way to go. That would make it much easier to catch fraud.

          • Mandatory voting laws would be un-American, to me. People should be free to NOT participate.

          • Voting is the most American thing Americans ever Americanized. Besides, if you require turnout it takes away one of the biggest ways voter fraud was done in the past, with poll workers placing fake votes for people who didn’t show up to vote.

Because unlike the Voter ID issue of people voting 2x, poll workers voting at the end of the night has been an issue in the past.

        • That is a totally false, complete, unadulterated load of garbage. No evidence of in-person voter fraud. Wow. That’s just delusional.

          • Different_Cat

As you like to say, it’s easily provable. You just have to look up the many judgments where these laws have been thrown out, and read the accompanying findings of fact. But I’m not going to waste my time….

          • Different_Cat

            Oh alright, here’s a couple:

The Fifth Circuit, in an opinion finding that Texas’s strict photo ID law is racially discriminatory, noted that there were “only two convictions for in-person voter impersonation fraud out of 20 million votes cast in the decade” before Texas passed its law.

In its opinion striking down North Carolina’s omnibus restrictive election law —which included a voter ID requirement — as purposefully racially discriminatory, the Fourth Circuit noted that the state “failed to identify even a single individual who has ever been charged with committing in-person voter fraud in North Carolina.”

        • Different_Cat

A Mustang driver has successfully eluded police after a brief chase on Interstate 70 in Colorado.

State troopers clocked the older-model Mustang going 140 mph approximately 10 miles west of Glenwood Springs, entering an area with relatively tight highway curves, according to a Denver Post report.

Troopers initially pursued the vehicle, however the driver accelerated to 150 mph rather than slowing down. Police consequently called off the chase.

“It’s extremely reckless, especially with people who haven’t been trained to drive at those speeds,” said Colorado State Patrol spokesman Gary Cooper.

Police never got close enough to catch a glimpse of the Mustang’s license plate.

So in Texas white “Affluenza teen” Ethan Couch served his two years of probation violation (for drinking again and then fleeing the country with his Mom) in prison for killing 4 people while drunk driving and was just released

black convicted felon Crystal Mason was sentenced to five years by a judge for illegally voting in 2016

and people wonder why some think the justice system is broken

    • Should clearly get time for illegally voting. But that the kid and the mom aren’t in jail for a long time is insane.

      • noonefromtampa

agreed, she did something illegal she should get punished

but there is a huge difference between killing someone (accidentally or on purpose) and illegally voting

        • i agree, kid DUIed 4 people, should get something like a life sentence or 25 years kind of thing.

Though I’m all for severe punishment when it comes to political corruption, like if it turns out a politician did something illegal to win an election, I want them lined up against a wall.

      • Back to the good ol daysBruce

Doing anything illegal deserves some type of punishment. But like anything there has to be appropriate application of punishment to the committed crime.

    • …and get rid of Gerrymandering once and for all. Redraw districts solely on shared infrastructure, school districts, etc. Districts to be drawn by a non-partisan organization.

      Every vote should count.

      Guff away

      • And have to show id to vote

        Agreed

        • I’m all for it, so long as you make the DMV’s provide ID’s for free rather than charging $50 or whatever it costs now.

          • noonefromtampa

licenses and IDs are money makers now

            along with vanity plates

          • Charges for licenses are fine. But if we are going to require ID for day to day public life, than that should be provided no extra charge. I miss the days of not having a photo ID on me.

          • noonefromtampa

the level of proof is the same for both per HLS standards so I can understand the cost

the difference is the the driver’s testing to get your license to drive which is not that expensive since in most places it is computer administered and scored

in FL ID is $25 and DL is $48

          • We pay for the DMV with taxes. Give folks free basic ID’s. I also know what it costs to print an ID card, they are about $1 each.

          • According to D_C , he never needs his ID . Argued this subject with him until it was ridiculous . He maintained they weren’t necessary , in spite of numerous examples I stated in which they were .

          • Now I will say, I’ve never once needed an ID to vote in any state I’ve lived in.
Also, real voter fraud isn’t gonna be stopped by the ID stuff, because that is not how people do successful voter fraud in the 21st century.

Now a days it’s easier done at the digital levels.

    Orange is the New Black
    House of Cards
    Stranger Things
    Narcos
    Peaky Blinders
    Godless
    13 Reasons Why
    Altered Carbon
    The Crown
    GLOW
    Ozark
    Grace and Frankie
    Bloodline

    • I’ve heard of the top three, but none of the rest of them. Watched none.

Peaky Blinders- The theme song gets stuck in my head, and man does that show love to edit Radiohead into it’s montages.
Godless- A decent enough western. The final episode disappointed me.
Altered Carbon- Like Blade Runner with more nudity.
The Crown- Worth watching Season 1 just for John Lithgow’s performance as Churchill.
GLOW- Lot of great jokes, wife and I watched together, She was a fan of the real GLOW.
Ozark- Basically Breaking Bad in Missouri.
Bloodline- Watch season 1, pretend there is no 2nd or 3rd seasons.

those 35 guys are the core of the team

    • No running back? Different game now

    • I don’t totally disagree with that, to me it’s interesting that we are spending as much on TE as we are.

And compare this to what it was not long ago when WR was probably number 2 or 3 on that list. Also an issue when you look at where we are spending and it doesn’t all sync with on the field performance.

It’s being slammed on Twitter as a “hostage” video.

Sinclair Broadcasting Group, which owns more than 170 U.S. TV stations, has ordered local news anchors across the country to read a script decrying “some media outlets” for “false news” and “fake stories.”

“This is extremely dangerous to a democracy,” the script reads.

Deadspin created a supercut of anchors reading the script and ThinkProgress shared a similar clip that showed newscasters reciting the identical lines.

Sinclair is currently in the process of purchasing Tribune media, a deal that would give it access to 42 more stations. Once complete, Sinclair will reach 72 percent of U.S. households.

      • Was told a story recently in fact from a guy who worked for them in Baltimore.

The local news guys did a story, had to do with one of the Baltimore protests on police shootings. Someone in the national office, re-edited the story to make it look like the protesters were actually rioters and were attacking police during the protest, the station was sued and the local reporters were blamed and fired even though it wasn’t them who did it.

        • BTW this stuff used to never happen in local news. It would be considered unethical for a national HQ to dictate stories and change stories being done by local press.

        • So now the media is honest all of a sudden?

          • No, but the riots didn’t have to do with the story that these guys were covering, were from a different day. Purely done to manipulate the audience. And then to blame the reporter for the actions of their superiors is the style of corporate cowards

oh, look! compression waves (arriving after light waves):
Dramatic video footage shows the moment an enormous explosion breaks up a frozen river in eastern Kazakhstan.

The thick ice on the river Irtysh River near the city of Semey had prevented vital shipping traffic from passing through, and officials decided to tackle it with 1,322 lbs of dynamite.

The witness behind the camera is thrown backwards by the sheer power of the blast, which blew the windows out in nearby homes, injuring several people.

As a result, the force of the explosion destroyed numerous windows in neighbouring properties and left several people injured from flying glass.

Two people had to be hospitalised as a result, a child who suffered serious cuts, and an adult who had a heart attack as a result of the shock from the blast.

So if this douche punter King shanks one can Jon Gruden come out onto the field and go all Pete-Townsend-Windmill-air-guitar on him while telling him to get his candy ass off the field?

  • Happy Monday!

“technical difficulties” would be a fun name for a band.

The Raiders cut punter Marquette King last week, and that came as a surprise. King is a solid punter who had a career-best 42.7-yard net average last season, and he still had three years left on his contract.

But new Raiders coach Jon Gruden apparently didn’t like King.

Veteran Raiders reporters Bill Williamson and Vic Tafur both reported that Gruden was the one who made the call to send King packing, and that Gruden had personality issues with King.

What exactly those personality issues were is unclear, but King also drew the ire of former Raiders coach Jack Del Rio, who said in 2016 that he was growing tired of King’s antics after King picked up 15-yard personal foul penalties in back-to-back games.

Cutting King knocks $2.9 million off the Raiders’ salary cap, and whoever the Raiders eventually sign to replace him will surely cost less than that. So there’s a financial reason to get rid of King. But the biggest reason may be about a personality clash.
    =========================================

I’ve never heard of a punter getting cut for having a personality clash with the head coach before

    bad punting yes

    • No Punt Intended

I would want so, so, so badly to have a clear shot at some fucking punter who celebrated a downed punt deep in his opponents territory like he just won the game for his team….or was even a fucking football player to begin with.

One of the many more reasons I love Jon Gruden.

      • Look if a punter gets the thing down to the one, I don’t mind a few high fives. Or if he gets down field and gets a good hit on the returner.

        • No Punt Intended

So you are cool with a fucking punter of all people celebrating himself?

Have you ever even held a football? In your life? Let alone played on a team where punters pretty much don’t even practice?

No dude. Gruden is 1000000000% right.

          Fuck the punter.

          • I am cool with a punter reasonably celebrating with his team mates when the do a good job on special teams.

          • No Punt Intended

I am sure that’s the the only reason Gruden got rid of him.

Never give a punter the benefit of the doubt.

            Ever.

          • I’m sure there’s something we don’t know. Like he may be a real ahole in the locker room.

      • walter_in_fallschurch

his post-play antics are no different from lots of players’ antics. a guy makes a tackle and does stuff like king.

        • No Punt Intended

You mean real football players? I’m fine with the football players getting fired up or firing up their respective units.

    • walter_in_fallschurch

that is weird. punters are usually just happy to be on a team.

    • I mean just look at him, he even punts like a gigantic A-hole!
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA45DSfb0pc

    • If I were a coach, I wouldn’t be down at all for a punter who’s picking up penalties. Punters are too easily replaced for that garbage.

    • No chance I’d do it.
2 2nd round picks sure. But a 1st is too valuable.

      • theoretically maybe, but I think that destroys the team chemistry even for just 2nd round or whatever price

    • Best tidbit from that

—One more note on the salary cap here. Redskins salary cap guru Eric
Schaffer believes that for a team to operate under the cap, about half
of the players on the roster need to be on rookie contracts. Right now,
of the players I currently figure will be on the depth chart (offense, defense)
21 are on rookie contracts. It’s safe to say that five or six of the
eight draft picks will make the team so 26 or so (give or take a few
since some of the draft picks may replace players on rookie deals) will
be on rookie deals or just about half of the 53-man roster. In that
regard, the 53 should be fairly well constructed.

      • Bad Reputation

Yeah I would never have thought that half the team needs to be on rookie deals.

        • it does if you have 5-10 players on $6-10M and QB at $18-24M

          • Exactly. One exercise that I think it doesn’t hurt to do as a fan, put together a spreadsheet of what % cap, and what total $ you’ed personally want to spend at each position, factor in what you are willing to pay backups vs starters, ect.

Gives you an idea how the team’s got to look at roster building.

How can we be against next years cap already

      • A lot of it depends on what they end up paying Brandon Scherff. Probably have to redo Kerrigan at that point he’s making 13 M. And you’re gonna have guys like Scandrick at 4 M, V Davis at 6 M

      • many of those nice deals that have low hits this year don’t have such low hits next year

  • At least be respectful enough to post mocks from fanspeak.com on a thread when we just interviewed the guy who runs that mock draft site.

  • Round 1 Pick 22 (BUF): Hernandez, Will, OG, Texas-El Paso (B+)
Round 2 Pick 12: Guice, Derrius, RB, LSU (A+)
Round 2 Pick 21 (BUF): Andrews, Mark, TE, Oklahoma (A)
Round 3 Pick 1 (BUF): Washington, James, WR, Oklahoma State (A-)

Round 7 Pick 23: Ankrah, Andrew, DE/OLB, James Madison (A)

  • When it comes to show titles, I was unsure if I wanted to go with Whisky or Whiskey

  • Morning folks..
D James already picked and I skipped on D Guice for once at 13…problem was w this draft come Rd 2 Guice Michel Johnson and Chubb were gone when my time to pick. I passed on RBs Ronald Jones and Rash Penny at 2. They were gone at my pick 4th round.
Rd1 Pk 13. DaRon Payne DL Bama.
    Rd2 Pk 12. Austin Corbet. G Nevada
Rd4 Pk 9. Mikah Kiser LB. UVA
Rd 5 Pk 5. Brandon Facyson. CB. VT
Rd 5 Pk 26. Eq. St. Brown. WR. Notre Dame
Rd 6 Pk14. Shaquem Griffin. LB/Edge Cent FL.
Rd 7 Pk13. Bo Scarborough RB. Bama
Rd 7 Pk 23. Levi Wallace CB. Bama

This mock makes my Guice picks at 13 or so not so much a reach… Skins dont need just any RB imo. As well we already have N Chubb in Perine so I’d pass.
If Skins want a RB its homerun or bust or a late rounder… way I see it.

    • No Punt Intended

CT will be back and the reason for optimism is that his leg injury was a broken bone rather than a soft tissue/ligament. I’d like to see if Perine steps up in year 2. Bibbs is pretty good. I think the Fat Rob experiment is going to be officially over.

We need a stud though. We have plenty of JAGs with one guy (CT) who is the best of the bunch and even then he’s not going to carry this team’s RB corps.

Irrespective of who we go for in the draft, I really hope they have posted a time of better than 4.6 in the 40. We already have a bunch of those 4.6 dudes.

      • Yes. Just an example above and not real life but an example non the less. Agree we dont need any more ‘bunch of those’. How many Kamara’s are found and make it to the 3rd round ea year ? Sure there are gems mid rounds but they arent a dime a dozen….and no guarantee we able to pick him.

      • I am fed up with Gruden’s lust for big power backs, they just don’t work in this offense as he constructed it. In an ideal world, yes I want a 250 lb RB who just beats down on the defense. But we don’t have the blocking at TE and even our OL are better off pulling and running Zone concepts.
I need RB’s to have speed, and then more speed, and after that some speed.

        • and tackle breakers…some of these dudes wont do in NFL what they do in college.

        • No Punt Intended

Which big, power back did Gruden pick while here with the Skins again?

          • Jones and Perine are both what I’d call power backs. Both around 230 lbs.

          • No Punt Intended

Right. And Gruden picked or even lobbied for either?

            I don’t think so.

          • I think he did lobby for Perine.
He keeps saying how he wants power backs.

          • No Punt Intended

I don’t hear that from Jay. He might be saying that because of who we have on the roster. I have always heard Jay lust for the 3-down back who can get to the edge and who has great hands.

Never heard him express any desire for a bruiser as the lead back of his RB corps.

          • He has said many times he likes “bangers” which to me means “power back”

          • No Punt Intended

            So he likes sausages.

A banger doesn’t mean “power back” at all.

Do you see CT as a power back? I don’t.

But do you see CT as a banger? Especially on blitz pickup? I do.

Everyone knows the type of back Jay drools over. Think Gio Bernard (5’9″ 205) when he was a rookie. Prototypical Jay Gruden RB.

      • 40 times at combine:
        Nyheim Hines 4.38
        Saquon Barkley 4.40
        Rashaad Penny 4.46
        Kalen Ballage 4.46
        Derrius Guice 4.49
        Justin Jackson 4.52
        Bo Scarbrough 4.52
        Nick Chubb 4.52
        Sony Michel 4.54
        Royce Freeman 4.54

Ronald Jones hurt hamstring, didn’t get a time. Has he posted a time at pro day?

        • No Punt Intended

Nice players to select from but the NFL is an entirely different place than college. Wonder who will be this year’s 3rd or 4th round gem.

          • not much difference between 4.49 and 4.54. 40 times are nice, but vision, quickness, shiftiness, balance are not measured

          • No Punt Intended

I beg to differ and I think we’d be able to see that difference with our own eyes. Yes, the 40 is only one of many parts of measure for a RB.

But, I still want that uncoachable component…speed. Pure, raw, unadulterated speed.

          • a half-second at the end of the 40 is only about a step

          • I was shocked that Michel had such a bad 40, watching him play he looks like a real speed guy.

    • Josh RosenSquinns

Utter and complete fail. Go back to bed and don’t get up again until after the draft.

    • I think it is unlikely that those 4 rb’s will be gone by 44. And if it happens, so be it. We need to keep stocking our D. I’d be happy with Payne and an OG at one and two

  • No Punt Intended

Just epic yesterday, late in the game, Bryce Harper up to bat and some Reds fan shouts, “O-VER-RAT-ED!”

Next pitch? Harper goes way deep out to dead center field. Bomb.

  • I’m first, what do I win?
