Schedule Musings
April 24, 2018
by Steve Thomas
The NFL released its 2018 season schedule last week, including the Redskins slate of games. We’ll have plenty of time over the coming months to talk about the schedule in more detail, including our annual game predictions, but I wanted to take this opportunity to give my initial impressions of the how the Redskins’ draw turned out. Is it possible that, for the first time in a long time, Lady Luck favored the franchise? It’s safe to say that that didn’t happen, but it’s not necessarily awful, either. Let’s take a detailed look at what the Redskins will face next season.
The first thing that jumps off the page at me is the imbalance between home and road games in each half of the season. Five of the first eight games are home games, including three of four between October 14 (Panthers) and November 4 (Falcons). Conversely, five of the final eight games are road games, including a whopping four of five contests between Thanksgiving Day in Dallas on November 22 through the Titans game on week 16 (which doesn’t have a firm date because it may be played on either Saturday, December 22, or Sunday, December 23 due to the TV network flex scheduling rules). The good news is that the Redskins get some of their tougher non-division games at home – Packers, Panthers, Falcons. The difficult out of division away games are the Saints in week 5 and the Jaguars in week 15.
The second thing that jumped off the page for me is that Washington does not have many prime time games. They have two Monday night games (week 5 at the Saints and week 13 at Philadelphia) and the Thanksgiving Day game against Dallas in week 12 – that’s it. No nationally televised games at Fed Ex Field this year. There are currently 10 games scheduled for the 1:00 p.m. start time, and that may increase depending on what happens with the week 16 flex game against Tennessee. Three games are 4:30 p.m. Sunday games. It could be worse – I haven’t yet taken the time to research the data on this (maybe someday; not today), but to me the team historically seems to play better in regular Sunday afternoon time slots than they do in prime time.
The first quarter of the season features a fairly balanced schedule, with two lesser teams, two tougher teams, two home games, and two away games. Opening on the road with a trip to the west coast swing isn’t ideal, but if you have to have a trip like that, the Cardinals (8 – 8 in 2017) are a good team to have to go visit. The Redskins have consistently started slow under Jay Gruden, so the Cardinals, who are a team in flux, are a decent first option even if it is in Phoenix. The Colts at home, with Andrew Luck’s status still up in the air as of now, should be one the most favorable matchups of the season – if they lose this game, it might be time to throw in the towel already. The Packers are always a tough game, even at Jack Kent Cooke Stadium, despite being just 7 – 9 last year, mostly due to Aaron Rodgers’ injury. The Saints in New Orleans on Monday Night Football is one of the toughest games of the year. So, as a way too early preliminary wag, 2 – 2 seems realistic, and 3 – 1 possible but overly optimistic.
The second quarter features the aforementioned Carolina Panthers game at home, two division games, Dallas at home and the Giants in New York, then the Falcons at home. This is a tough set, regardless of where the games are played. Dallas has, sadly, owned the Redskins in recent years, winning 4 in a row and 8 of the last 10. Even the Giants, who were terrible last season, have managed to split the last 4 games with Washington. Throw in the Falcons and Panthers, and this could be a make or break stretch. With 3 of 4 games at home and 2 division rivals, though, the Redskins need to do well here in order to have a successful season. The odds of this happening don’t seem high. I think this quarter is realistically 1 – 3 on the low side and 2 – 2 on the high side. If the team comes out of this brutal stretch with a winning record for the quarter, things will truly be looking up.
The third quarter starts the long trek through the principal away game schedule: Tampa Bay (5 – 11) in Tampa, followed by the Texans in Raljon, Dallas at Jerryworld, then the Eagles in the dirtiest, ugliest, most classless city in America (cheap shot, I know, but the truth hurts). This is a quarter in which Washington will need to do well in order to have a successful season. Tampa is a winnable game, even on the road, and although the Texans will be much improved from last year thanks to the return of Deshaun Watson and the seemingly always hurt J.J. Watt, that’s a must-win event. It sadly just isn’t realistic to expect the Redskins to beat both the Cowboys and the Eagles in successive weeks, particularly when both are away. Therefore, for this quarter, 3 – 1 appears realistic, with 2 – 2 being a low-end guess.
The fourth quarter features 2 home games and 2 away games, but comes with an AFC Championship game participant, Jacksonville in Florida, plus the Super Bowl-winning Eagles, another division rival game against the Giants, plus the Titans in the Nashville in the TV-flex game. Assuming that both the Jaguars and the Eagles have another good season, it’s tough for me to see more than 2 – 2 at best against these four teams, particularly with the easiest game against the Titans coming on the road and possibly on Saturday. In a worst-case scenario, 0 – 4 isn’t beyond the realm of possible. If the team ended up maximizing its potential, and the Eagles and Jaguars end up being not quite what we expect them to be, perhaps it will go better. It’s obviously tough to predict with any sort of reasonable accuracy at this juncture.
If you add up my high and low predictions for each quarter, my thumbnail walk through the 2018 calendar makes me think the Redskins may end up with a record somewhere between 10 – 6 and 5 – 11, depending on how things go. This isn’t exactly groundbreaking, since only 3 seasons out of the last 20 have been out of this range, all bad (4 – 12 in 2014, 3 – 13 in 2013, 4 – 12 in 2009). Truthfully, it’s too early to predict for a team in flux like the Redskins. What’s certain is that the scheduling gods declined to do the team any favors.

Harry Anderson died of a stroke
Last week right?
Yea. Cause of death released this morning.
What would you consider to be a “Holy Shit!” pick the Redskins may end up making? HS good or HS bad, who, if selected at pick 13, would you jump out of your seat in anger or unbridled joy upon hearing who we take?
I think Josh Allen could slip. If the Skins took him I might intentionally shit my pants. Not out of joy or even anger but mainly, confusion.
Here we are, the day before the draft. Here’s where everyone and I mean everyone gets proven wrong relative to their personal analysis and endless mock drafts. Here’s where we learn that most (if not all) teams are bullshitting whenever they express interest in specific players. Here’s where the dude who thought he killed it at the combine slips further than anyone would have expected. Here’s where Cleveland will still find a way to step on their own dick. Here’s where all of the analysis and so-called strategy spewed from D_C’s piehole is shown to be nothing but some loser trying to spin so many scenarios he’s bound to hit on one…
…but he won’t.
No one ever does.
The NFL draft…oh what a fickle mistress she is.
PS – Sorry, the coffee here is terrific this morning.
Don’t apologize my friend. You’re absolutely correct.
I didn’t see an apology in there….
The link I sent below was from a general manager stating that there about 90 players in this draft that are starters or potential starters. This makes the first 3 Rounds crucial and of course we only have 2 picks
because of the smith trade? tough, but worth it, imo. we were not getting cousins.
we need a quarterback no doubt but gave away two starters and the third round pick. I just wonder if we couldn’t have done it without giving away the pick or maybe couple later round picks
I did one of those fanspeak mocks yesterday and, with no trades, I ended up with Nelson, Orlando Brown, Poonah and Ronald Jones (in the 5th!)
This GM stuff is easy.

any idea what movie that is from? it looks absolutely wonderfully awful.
Got mystery science theater written all over it.
it is that movie. “caveman”. stars dennis quaid and shelly long (from before cheers).
Bruce Allen after the pre-draft pep-talk. “Onward!”, or “Aaarrgh!”
The giant iguana is fucking zooted, lol
That’s Ringo Star dude
kon,
yeah. it’s the ringo starr “caveman” movie. also starring dennis quaid and shelly long.
Dennis was Jody, or Jarrggghhh
Orlando Brown?
Oh yeah!

NFL Draft - 1 DAYS: 12 HOURS: 32 MINUTES
Add two hours for the Skins pick at 13
Approximately

The part right at the end is where he realizes that it’ll take 2 hours for our pick.
I wonder what btg thinks we should do. He hasn’t given his thoughts.
Ain’t nobody hitting spinner baits this early
I heard he’s leaning toward a RB
Bout time he coming around…
Yes he and I both are coming around to a running back with our first pick or maybe a wide receiver what do you guys think?
No Wr til layer. Wims Lazard St Brown. Good picks.
I forgot to turn my sarcasm font on.
More craziness….I really like Lamar Jackson. If he is there at 13 ….not sure I can pass. Crazy I know but something says dont pass on him. Be a heck of a trade chip perhaps…
Somebody will trade up for him
Maybe.
don’t worry, I think he’s got a few more years of eligibility at Nebraska. sounds like he’s going to start, and they think maybe a year or two down the road he might be a Mike Hughes comp.
#jokesonlynovamikegets
Experts did come around to both Fitzpatrick and James being top 8. Still think James a notch higher…and now prob gone by #13. 🙁

Morning folks…another RB mock of mine. Skins fans would be happy with such a draft ! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/8386684d5dad3d3e1a6cc8b8beededfdadfd9f2262797ddbb43463ef1c89b167.jpg
All these mocks with us taking a RB in the 1st….whatever
Just me and Jeremiah. Not “all these”…
All these…….fixed it
Blog police at work early….
No, for you to insinuate that only YOU, and Jeremiah, have the Redskins taking a RB at 13, well….. it’s just not true.
Cmon man. You too technical. Not many pick Skins RB at 13. Certainly not many if…ANY…on this blog except Steve. Certainly not many of the TV guys. Insinuating facts.
Whatever you say
Relax.
I can’t get what I want to get done in this draft without trading back, doesn’t matter “who” is there. I know it is all fake and not real, but if I am the Skins, I think I can still get talent upgrades day 2, and I want two more picks there if possible, even if that means picking with the playoff teams in the 1st.
Maybe if Jackson still there. Be tough to do imo.
depends a lot on who is there, yes, but once the move drops down to a reasonable pick or two, a playoff team might move up to any number of guys they like who have fallen to mid 1st. but we’re not talking blockbuster like a top 10 pick QB trade might be.
Brandon in the fifth round, Shirley you jest!
Way it worked out. I picked ” difficult” vs classic as well on Fanspeak
Daniel Jeremiah has Guice at #17 in his top 50.
Mayock has Ragnow his 2nd rated interior OL at #19. Hernandez at 29. Crazy how experts have players ranked so differently…high and low.
Not crazy, different people see different shit.
Mayock has Mayfield at #22. I have him at # 1. So …crazy.
Because why?
Because I said. Lol. Like I did w Trubisky and Watson last year.. 2nd and 12th.
No further questions…
Because the draft is uncertain. Very uncertain!
Yea no doubt.
Delaware about to pass a law that would “take away” ability to get guns to anyone a mental health professional says is dangerous or unsuitable (not sure the language, it’s the local tv news)
…I think I’ll go to night school to become a mental health professional.
Looking for that “supplemental” income, eh?
Passive income is where it’s at!
I don’t know what you’re talking about – they
Passive aggressive income.
that new Mazda 6 has vented seats and a turbo…
…what’s that got to do with my mental health eval?
*patient looks down, sighs, shurgs, rolls out half a nice roll of Benjamins*

*couple of more bills*
You’re completey sane! Thank you, come again!
couple of more nights, I might have the roll to get the Signature trim with the burled wood
“based on expert psychological review…..we had no idea Mr. Smith was gonna do that….”
it’s an inexact science at best
Lol
And a really nice refresh on the exterior and interior.
Trade yours in.
actually, to be real real, in the next two years, I’ll prob drop a cold air intake kit into it, then go to tire rack and down-size the rims to 18″, go a size or two wider, and put some Michellin Pilots on it.
An intake swap is not going to land you 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
it’s going to add 10% HP in the range where slightly above normal traffic acceleration happens, in the 2500-3500 rpm range. value cost: half of one new car payment.
good!
you mean that currently medically diagnosed “dangerous or unsuitable” people CAN get guns?

Makes me miss our 3rd round pick even more.
DL rankings are all over the place depending on who you listen to. Some have Hurst and Bryan ahead of Vea and Payne.
What does flounder think?
If I had to pick between those 4 I still want Payne.
But I think we could trade down and still get him.
For the interior, give me Phillips. For a flexible guy, give me Payne.
Where do you think Chubb will go? What round I guess?
First, I guess. I haven’t put any serious consideration into him.
Do you think he’s the best DL?
Probably. He certainly has the highest score. Out of reach? Most likely. One of those Jon Allen guys, not planning for it, but welcome to the team
I agree with that.
I think the Redskins would pick Payne
Chilly this morning, 61….brrr.

Fresno State, shame on you. I hope you suffer poor enrollment going fwd.
grew up with a lot of people who served in Nam
I’m about 4/5 years too young to have gone
people who were SEALs, Green Berets, LURPs, 11 Bravo’s, chopper pilots, door gunners, fast movers and spooks
The Virginia State Police says it’s reviewing claims made by new Washington Redskins receiver Paul Richardson Jr., who tweeted that a trooper asked whether he was in a gang and told him he thought he was a drug dealer after pulling him over Tuesday afternoon.
Black man with money… must be a drug dealer
black man driving a Benz SUV you know that shit is the truth
Which Benz SUV… cause they make a couple shit ones
Let’s see if its true first . Suzy made a bunch of bogus claims against the cops and the dumbass was on video .
article said they were going to pull the tape
Gotta do it… but won’t be definitive
*sigh* jesus christ.
This has got to be bullshit, our troopers have never racially profiled anyone………….. except for that time my black friend and I were pulled over while going fishing, they tore the car apart, all of my bait died. Never did find any crack.
Shoulda sued those bastards… YOU KILLED MY BAIT!!!
Yeah right, lol. I did inform other that my bait was dying, to no avail.
Besides… who goes fishing on crack?
“We thought The bait was a clever ruse”
saw a “King of the Hill” episode where they accidentally used crack as fishing bait.
I didn’t know anyone actually watched that show
yeah, it was great. pretty much can’t go wrong with a Mike Judge thing.
Never liked it… tried… just didn’t find it the least bit funny.
To each his own I guess
James had eaten a barbeque rib when I picked him up, (I’m like 20, piece of shit work car) he threw the bone on the floor wrapped in tinfoil. You should have seen the look on that trooper’s face when he unwrapped that bad boy on the trunk, just knowing hedh found dope.
Didn’t he play with Michael Bennett who also made wild claims against the police?
Used to love the History Channel when it was… you know… history. Before it went all MTV and stopped playing history and started with the shows. I called it “The War Channel” because it was all war all the time. Mostly WWII also… good stuff.
both Discovery and History, totally. they used to be really good.
got on “Mysteries of the Abandoned” on Sci right now, and it’s been all these Nazi relics, lol.

hahahaaaaaa, fuck that, man. still can’t tell where the chick in the middle of the road came from.
That’s some scary shit… that lady needs to get out of the road.
That white car disappeared
now, i watch a lot of AHC during the week. a lot of the programming is fascinating, though they are the “Hitler Channel,” though. every now and again you’ll get Revolution, Civil War, WWI, Vietnam and Middle East stories, but the vast majority seems to be WWII-oriented.
i really like their shows about the Mafia, too.
Oh yeah . I love the mafia episodes . Great channel.
those are informative as hell.
Tons of mafia documentaries on the youtubes. Shits endless.
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mafia+documentary
It is . I love that stuff though
When it was the Military Channel…anytime you’d turn it on, nazi fucking Germany.
I was like, ‘Why don’t they just call it the Fucking Nazi Channel and get it over with already’
Yeah , but the amount of information and different storylines associated with that era is never ending almost . All the crazy weird shit other than just the war itself .All that bizarre shit Hitler was into .
If you ever get a chance to see the documentary on the Battle of Hue City, during the Tet Offensive, watch it.
i will have to check the youtubes for it. i saw “Vietnam in HD” and the one they did about La Drang Valley ’65 (not the Gibson movie, Military Channel did a show). those were both extremely well done.
The first Air Calvary missions, yeah. I work with a man that was Air Cavalry in Vietnam.
My pops was first air cav in Nam… door gunner
Cool, I’ll ask Tom what his unit was. He’s told me before, but it escapes me.
Brutal job
Yeah, here’s to your dad, thank you for your service.
The Bataan Death March is a good one too.
Normandy . Anything associated with that is good .
Stupid motherfuckers wouldn’t listen to Big Mac, he told them 50,000 times that the Japanese were pushing south.
That was so brutal , it about erases any qualms you may have about the A Bomb .
pretty much, yeah. it was the right decision, but damn, imagine having to be the one to make it. you da man, Truman.
Very true .
What was your alternative? Invade the Japanese mainland.
exactly. god knows how many casualties against fanatical defenders that would have been.
Also, if we had not used the bomb, who would have been the first? Until the destruction was realized, it was still “unproven”, against a real target. Someone else would have used it, maybe against the United States. Us using the bomb created a threshold, with clear implications if crossed.
big bluff involved there, as well. if they hadn’t surrendered after Little Boy, we didn’t have any more in the hopper. we would have had to invade anyhow.
i know we’re not arguing, but i do want to make clear, if i hadn’t already, that there’s no snark involved towards what Truman had to do.
I didn’t think you were being snarky. Anybody that questions that decision hasn’t been paying attention. I have my own opinions about who had Truman’s ear, but it’s not related to what we’re talking about. Our generations cannot fathom the global situation during that time.
i’m just re-thinking the “you da man” part of the statement. wish i hadn’t put it that way, now that i’ve looked at it for a while.
I would let it stand, that’s a serious door to step through, to give that order.
my problem with using the bomb was we killed men women and children, the things that we rail against today. Had we just killed enemy combatants I would have less heartburn about it.
Dwight D. Eisenhower is a douchebag

When she’s 10 ft tall
NFL Network’s live mock draft had us taking Hernandez with our first pick.
Keith? He’s 64 and he plays baseball!
Would you be mad?
At 13? Depends on who was left.
He’s one that I would honestly just say “ok, fuck it, let’s go” if they did something like that, regardless of the reach.
I’d take Hernandez over Payne.
Yeah
Yep
Get off the ball, pop the defender in the nose and move those chains
Heard one analyst saying that Hernandez may be better suited to the pros than Nelson — mainly because a lot of Nelson’s highlight real plays would get flagged in the NFL.
If y’all are calling for a rushing attack, he’s your huckleberry.

Looks like the Third Reich’s canine squad
Why’s it gotta be that?
IDK , I was watching some Hitler stuff on AHC channel
What are they talking about?
This particular one is about Hitler’s obsession with a pure Aryan master race . Like everything associated with him , its a fallacy based on lies and manufactured information .
Now its Nazi fugitive hunters by the Israelis , in Brazil . Seen it before but it’s still good
Yeah, Israel gets it done.
Oh yeah . You want to know about security ? Call them.
Israel gets a bunch done that we can’t, or won’t, have/want a public hand in.
They ain’t scared , and they don’t give a shit what anybody else thinks anywhere in the world .
I enjoy the military oriented ones.
I do too. The military channel just had a German episode on .
The Discovery network of channels loves them some nazi shit.
They do . You can watch all you want between the three channels . AHC is always showing Nazi shit . The amazing thing is they never run out of new story lines and information . Just when you think you have heard it all , you learn something new .
Um… they’re German Shepherds?
I see that . The Germans always have those dogs on leashes for whatever reason in many of the documentary’s . I would assume to attack people on command
so Mayock’s mock is tomorrow at 8pm
Boris releases his Thursday morning
so I will do one last update on Thursday before the draft starts
Mayock knows what he’s talking about
Supposedly has the best inside contacts of all of them.
Damn, let them eat already!

PSmith is a more effective player when he’s got a talent to his left
Fact
Absolutely . Like a different guy .
when he is better , RK is better .
Improve the DL
In turn improves the pass rushers
In turn improves the secondary
Yes . They can’t cover forever . You know privately that brings frustration
Convincing is to improve the d line doesn’t mean the skins will do it.
Obviously to most…
True, but it works both ways. Improve the secondary and it gives the DL more time to get to the QB.
Here’s our week 17 preview of the Giants game last year http://www.thehogsty.com/2017/12/28/game-preview-week-17-redskins-at-giants/
That’s a painful read and I know that without even looking . That was when it couldn’t be over fast enough .
By the 4th game last season, the Redskins defense was ranked 11th in rushing yards surrendered and 11th in rushing yards per attempt surrendered.
After week 9 (which included the bye, so 8 games), they were 16th in rushing yards and 19th in rushing yards per attempt.
After week 13 (12 games), they were 22nd in rushing yards surrendered and 19th in rushing yards per attempt).
Headed into week 17 against the Giants (who ran for 260 yards), they were ranked 29th in rushing yards surrendered and 26th in rushing yards per attempt. We all know what they were ranked after the Giants game.
All of these numbers are in our extraodinarily detailed written game previews for each week, which are still on our site and you can go look at. As modestly and humbly as I can muster, I think our weekly written game previews are the best in the business, for any outlet.
Let’s just go with the first stat for arguments sake . I think they should aspire to be better than eleventh ranked . They have to do better than that . Injuries were critical and the stats reveal that .
Totally agree.
heck of a lot better than dead last though . I think they finally graded out as the most injury riddled team in the league . I don’t know if that’s all bad luck , poor training camp and preseason work , or a combination . Probably all of it combined .
Where was the defense ranked overall versus the offense
We’ve been terrible against the run since I can remember . Last time I recall us being stout defensively vs the run was when Greg Blache was here . Maybe that’s not totally accurate , but that’s how I recall the situation .
Game 2 Rams 96 on 19 carries
Game 4 157 on 28 carries
Fact not opinion
last vs Run . I guess you have to determine how much of that is because of injuries . I don’t remember who if anyone was already out by game 4. Regardless they need help now .
Orleans Darkwa and Almo who are still out there ran for 100 plus on us
By that time, virtually the entire front 7 except for Kerrigan was out.
Not true
For Almo? True.
It just isn’t as big of a problem as the offense, to me. The team has basically no playmakers who scare anybody except for Reed, who’s injury prone.
Darkwa’s big game was week 17, and Almo’s was week 13.
The Chiefs were the only team in the first 5 games to have over 100 yards rushing, and in that game, Hunt had 101 – bad but not disaster.
Eagles had 127 yards in week 7, but 63 of that was Wentz. Elliott ran over us in week 8 for 150 yards.
It was the last 5 weeks of the season that really tanked the stats – 182, 174, 141, 159, 260.
We also had somebody named Zack Vigil and a FedEx field security guard starting at ILB at the end of the year
Preston Smith started all 16 games
Making your claim false
See below.
In week 13 ionniadis had 1 tackle as did Smith
Ionniadis also played week 17
By week 4 ? Wow . I didn’t remember that
That’s pretty damn bad . I remember Darkwa now that you said it .
I do not feel the Redskins should trade up for anyone. No matter who is available, with the run on QB’s that is going to happen and Barkley and another couple locks going in the top-10, the Redskins are going to get what can easily be described as a complete stud who will probably end up being a top-5 talent. I think moving up would cost us too much and we’d be getting a premier talent by simply standing pat. I am personally okay with the team moving back a little but I want the team to have a 1st round selection.
agree
I hear you, but finishing out that OL with a guy as good as Nelson sounds very nice.
Nelson, opposite Scherff….shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
C Ridley opposite Doctson
SUPERBOWL!!!!!
That’s almost fap’n material
Now we’re talking – everyone with a brain
Never draft a guard in the first round- dc
Nelson is the one and only player I think the team should consider trading up to get.
Best player in the draft period
The guy is intimidating just giving an interview . he is gonna maul people with extreme prejudice
Him and Scherff would be a nightmare
Oh hell yes .
Kelly might actually have a seam to run at . Maybe he isn’t as average as we think in that scenario .
although if he keeps that spin move on every point of contact his ribs will be busted all to hell again
I would love to see him in burgundy and gold
Am I chopped liver?
– Barkley
He’s a fine RB, obviously, but I don’t think he’s so, so much better than his competition that I’d considering trading up for him.
Fer crying out loud this team cannot afford to trade up
We’re still digging out from the last trade up we did
Exactly how much do you think it would cost to trade up 2 or 3 spots? Not as much as you think, and I’d do it and be thrilled if it meant grabbing the best interior OL prospect in many years.
I’m not talking about moving from 13 to 5.
Probably a one and a three or four
Yes. Moving from 13 to 11 is worth 100 points on the chart, which is mid-to high 4th so add a little bit to that and you’re talking a good solid offer. I’d give ’em next year’s 3rd for Nelson.
Scherff was a wasted pick. – D_C
Err, I never said that you should never draft a guard in the 1st round. Top 5 — yeah.
We do need to be able to run, though.
Apparently the only thing that matters is drafting interior defensive lineman.
now your catching on
Sarcasm detector activated.
I know . I think you are right about the injuries . Its not near as bad as it seems if everybody is healthy ;
the offensive line last year suffered many injuries as well. There were 17 different lineups last year. Yet Kirk Cousins and the offense produced enough points and move the ball enough yards to win games. The defense however was last again stopping the rush. Again, quit f****** around
Trash at my feet.
Huh
Kirk was asked about a pick he threw and in typical KC fashion he took 5 minutes to explain that one play and hinted it was the fault of every other player, including the fallen linemen he referred to as “Trash at my feet” as the cause for tossing yet another soul-crushing interception.
I’m not saying cousins was the best ever I’m saying as a counter argument that the offensive line was banged up all year as well and yet the offense still moved the ball and scored enough points to win games the defense however could not stop anybody against the rush
Cousins was playing, for the last 2 years, like a guy who didn’t want to take risks and didn’t want to get hurt.
F him. Glad he’s gone.
Sure that’s fine. This isn’t really about cousins, it’s about the offense was banged up too and they still produced so I’m suggesting the defensive line is a more pressing need. In the face of the evidence you would have to concur
I don’t concur, actually.
given the facts that I have just presented that the offense still produced even though they were as banged-up with 17 different lineups, yet the defense couldn’t stop a high school rushing team, how can you come to a different conclusion?
Because your argument is too simplistic, and you’re ignoring the fact that the original starting defensive group wasn’t anywhere near as bad as the group of dreck who finished out the year. The starters were actually holding their own.
On offense, it was pretty clear that the running game was a disaster. I think it was a combination of the massive injuries on the OL and the extremely poor talent level in the RB group. Our WR group featured a Jamison Crowder, an undeveloped rookie who has potential but isn’t there yet, and Jay Gruden’s adpoted son. Help wanted sign needs to be hung.
Sure, points scored and points surrendered are important – the most important numbers, but it’s very evident that health alone on the defensive front 7 would go a long way, whereas the team flat-out doesn’t have a starting LG no matter what Doug Williams says, and it doesn’t have a legit starting-quality RB, either.
He could just being saying that as to not tip his hand .
and he still passed for 4000 yards
He’s ignoring that
A big Hawaiian pig at your feet
shit starter . That’s my job .
I don’t understand how some don’t get it
Some folks have very short memories, and forget that when last year’s starting front 7 was healthy in the 1st qtr of the season, they were pretty decent – while featuring a rookie who’ll only get better.
I mean, come on, people, they lost Allen, Brown, Foster, and Compton for the year, Ioannidis for half the year, and Ziggy Hood and Spaight were banged up, among others. And that’s just off the top of my head. No wonder they stunk.
after Foster went out , it was over . I said it then , I think he was undervalued a bit vs the run . He was getting it done until he couldn’t .
Allen and ionniadis are injury prone until they prove otherwise
Allen isn’t anything. He was a rookie. One injury does not make you injury prone. Robert Griffin is injury-prone.
He played five games
He’s injury prone until he can last a full season
Amen!
Booo. Whats the devil worshipers word for the opposite of amen ?
Beelzebub?
There it is . Beelebub damnitt .
Lol
Being injury prone requires the existence of more than one injury.
Shrugs shoulders
How come they aren’t learning to be pro’s like Anderson ? And I’m not trying to be sarcastic . They got hurt , it happens .
the whole team will be, statistically, so long as Jay Gruden is the coach or he changes the M.O.
PJ, BJ, Harrison Phillips, Trenton Thompson, Poona
We won’t be last against the run.
BMitch going on a little bit about that earlier .
he didn’t think much of a RB in round one
because he knows football 101
Allen, Lanier and Hankins are going to be a force to be reckoned with!!!!!!!
McPhee, also
Sure and let’s see what happens with Phil Taylor. He’s just a bonus if he contributes.
McPhee is still in the league because he shuts down the run. He’s making OLB the hard way.
Then we add Vea.

first round RB talk is just that . No way in hell you can justify that with a last vs run defense . Last as in rock bottom . Every year damn near . But I would take Nelson if he made it that far . The defense can wait , LOL.
Dline is deep enough to grab OL 1st and DL 2nd.
And really, as bad as the run defense is, right now…I’d prioritize getting a stout LG in there to protect Smith ahead of the rush defense.
The guy is a pure bred stud . A ten year can’t miss pro bowler . You cant let that go by .
Just don’t see him dropping to us.
But hey, we all were saying that about Jonathan Allen last draft and that worked out. So, keep on saying no way does Nelson fall to 13.
Oh hell no . I don’t either . never get that lucky , but that’s true on JA . we used up all our luck
They have to do something , otherwise Philly will put Alex Smith in an early grave with that bunch they have up front
KC survived, AS is supposedly more mobile.
Good point , Philly added some more too though , this offseason.
AS is the second coming haven’t you heard? He will take us to the promised land even though he didn’t in Kansas City
I ain’t even going there. The season will reveal itself .
Lol, yes it will.
Shreds knee on first day of rookie camp
Kon, you don’t know and no one else knows that for sure. All these draft prospects are just that , prospects. Many many many of these guys will not last in the NFL. Stop saying the draft is deep with defense lineman, draft a defensive lineman at 13. Or second best, an offensive guard. Quit f****** around.
Dline is deep.
And I don’t care if it wasn’t. If Nelson is there, fuck it, be last against the run again.
Lol good strategy LOL
Damn right!
I would take both Barkley and Guice in the first round at 13, if either were available, and be thrilled about it.
If we got Barkley at 13 that would end up being the most amazing drop in the draft since Aaron Rodgers.
no, since at LEAST J Allen
There was some concern about Allen’s size and his shoulders. It was an easy pick to make, but it was not a shock that he dropped like if Barkley – arguably the best player in the entire draft – fell to 13 even with a run on QB’s.
But then there’s a 0% chance Barkley drops to 13 so it’s a moot point.
I agree
J Allen was the number 1 overall top player in the draft last year by a lot of progs
But I agree… though I put it at 0.1%, because you never know. QB run, and then a bunch of teams who draft BPA PoN who don’t think the running game is a priority in 1st round.
No, that was Myles Garrett who Cleveland took first overall.
Yeah, Barkley isn’t going to happen.
Since Jonathan Allen
Allen falling to 17 would not compare to Barkley falling to 13.
Not going to say I wouldn’t be excited at the thought myself . It’s tough , we need all of it badly
Two Dallas Police Department officers and one security have been shot at a Home Depot store in north Dallas and all three are in critical condition, multiple sources told WFAA’s Rebecca Lopez.
One of the officers is a woman, sources told WFAA.
The incident was still developing about 5 p.m. at the Home Depot at U.S. 75 and Forest Lane.
A police spokesman confirmed a “major incident” at the store and said it was still a “very active scene.” No other details were being released.

Doug Williams on Dan Snyder: He owns the football team. He’s aware of what were doing….
He doesnt tell us what to do, but he asks about the guys
We may not like seeing Ziggy Hood on the starting line. But a good dude off the field, he gave 10 grand to an autism charity
Ziggy Hood would be better if he was a bit situational roll player
He’s is physically imposing to look at . He’s huge and not fat .
Chris Baker was definitely a roll player.
Only a jelly roll.
Well he was a Baker. I guess he left because he was kneading dough.
No pun intended, I’m sure….
We should have resigned him – dc
I’ve said it several times , I feel like they kept him for his character and his weight room habits as an example .
Didn’t they get him to play end but had to move him more to NT after injuries? Draft Vea and see what Hood gives you as an end.
He has an autistic child
Yes he does.
The kid’s autistic
His son is autistic.
Good ol Doug Williams told reporters that their draft strategy at 13 is pure BPA… will not be swayed by need.
Well I am watching Redskins Nation . Larry Michaels will tell us what’s up . The truth and nothing but the truth .
He isn’t going to reveal any strategy
What’s he supposed to do? Lay out the team’s draft strategy? Every single GM in the NFL says the same thing.
better hope Baker Mayfield is gone, then
Looking forward to the Cowboys burning out Zeke like they did Murray.

Wow, I forgot about that. Here’s mine:
RD 1 – DT JARRAN REED- 21 starts, 79 tkls, 3 sks, 1 ff
RD 2 – RB DERRICK HENRY- 2 starts 1,234 yards 10 TD’s 273 yds rec + 1 TD; great pick
RD 3 – CB ZACK SANCHEZ – played 5 games, signed futures contract; oops
RD 4 – C JACK ALLEN – went undrafted; out of football; oops
RD 5 – WR TAJAE SHARPE – 10 gms, 41 rec in 2016; IR in 2017
RD6 – DT ADAM GOTSIS – plyd 32 gms, started 13, 33 tackles; good pick

RD 7 – S CLAYTON FEJEDELEM – plyd 32 gms in Cincy, 5 starts. quality 7th rd pick.
2 starts for Derrick Henry? Is that right?
Yes, because the TN coaches are morons. Demarco Murray has been starting.
they cut Murray
he is available I think
Gotcha
That was just last year, though; he also started 2 gms in 2016.
I think he’s going to have a big year this year.
You might have to revisit Gotsis, depending….
In March 2018 Adam Gotsis was accused and arrested for alleged rape of a woman in 2013, while he was a student-athlete in Georgia. Gotsis, surrendered himself into Atlanta Police on March 7, 2018 and was released after posting $US 50,000.
Ooof…nevermind.
Safe 2 say, we didn’t do as well as hoped
So… which Mock Draft is this? # 3476 out of 5378
They were ones we did on air in 16.
Well then at least you gave yourself a parameter that can be proven…
Saw some other here post theirs… but you have to wonder which one that was… or was it a conglomeration… or complete BS.
Yeah, this is on the record. Robbie and Sean’s mock is there, too.

Price of externals is getting lower all the time. 2 TBs for $50-70 is not hard to find.
Want to go smaller? Flash drives with 256 GB $30-70. MicroSDs with 256 GB $100
Yeah, or do a RAID set to duplicate drive. Solid state HDs have also gotten really cheap.

I back-up photos to three locations. External Hard Drive (replaced every two years). ICloud and Prime Photos. Redundancy.
I also use Drop Box
Good idea. I just want to make sure I use two cloud services and 1 local.

Saw those at the store. Couldn’t figure out why they cost so much–thinking it was only a monitor. Reading the box was helpful…those have all the bells and whistles.

Yup. It’s like shoe-box size. A lot smaller than that turd I had.
I build my own. Better and cheaper and really not that hard to do.

Bought a desktop 2 years ago that could support 4 external monitors. This sucker screams.

Who’s going to throw tantrums on the sideline and locker room for Breeland?
Who’s going to fail a PED test and be suspended for four games in place of Murphy?
Who’s going to be the coach’s son in place of Grant?
This game is kind of fun!
________________________
For all those issues, Breeland still played well last year. Murphy didn’t play at all (so nets out). Grant is relatively replaceable.
Reality is, on paper, the defense is not as strong as it was at the beginning of last season. We lost some decent players, and the FO has done little to nothing to help fill those holes (Scandrick?).
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e656d7de95a04394dcfcd04ff4169bc4713b2f74ccacfdca86a66fb107fdd3f0.gif

(Serious font, I agree that on paper they are worse. Breeland, despite his headcase-ness, is better than Scandrick, imo. And a healthy Murphy over McPhee all day. I would even argue that a reliable route-runner like Grant is an important piece to a WR core. And Long was a solid G/C. So, yes, I agree with you.)

HUNTINGTON WOODS, Mich. — More than a dozen tractor-trailers lined up beneath a Detroit-area freeway overpass to aid police trying to help a man contemplating suicide.
Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said troopers received a call early Tuesday about the man standing on an overpass above Interstate 696 in Huntington Woods. As officers routed traffic away, they directed truckers to drive into positions to shorten the fall if the man jumped.
Thirteen trucks lined the freeway as police dealt with the man. The incident lasted about four hours until he walked off to waiting officers and to seek medical help.

Redskins 1st round pick 2 DAYS: 8 HOURS: 24 MINUTES
Gallette and Breeland are unsigned as of now right?
And Louvau!
Fire up Redskins One!!
We’re gettin’ the band back together!
i’d take both back for “reasonable” contracts. of course, “reasonable” means something different to breeland, galette and the redskins.

feels most of the team already in the building, injuries derailed things last year
___________________
Same cocky feeling they had going into the 2013 season….
And we will be injured next year (hopefully a little less, but you gotta bank on a decent amount of injuries).
And don’t kid yourselves. We lost some talent on defense. Breeland, Fuller and Gallette. And we haven’t done anything to back fill those holes. Right now, on paper, we’re not as good a team as we were last year.
Going to be hard to find someone to tear their Achilles to replace Gallette.
Not to mention we were missing our best d-line and missing both inside LB’s for part of the year.
Point is Flounder that we will have injuries again next year and we’re not starting off as strong as we were last year.
And Gallette was really coming on strong at the end of the year.
What a homer
-Larry Michael
Who’s going to throw tantrums in practice for Breeland?
Who’s going to fail a PED test and be suspended for four games in place of Murphy?
Who’s going to be the coach’s son in place of Grant?
This game is kind of fun!
Who’s gonna play the Opry……
And the Wabash Cannonball?
Who’s gonna drive you home tonight?
Possums don’t drive, they float.
What’s your prediction, Flounder? 16 – 0?
And he still doesn’t know how we get that “0”.
sheesh…. not too inspiring. i mean, i guess that a comforting sentiment for our current, mediocre, at best, players, but jeez…. hopefully he does not really, really think everything is fine with the roster. come ON redskins. please prove my skepticism wrong.

Payne at 23 would be cool.
Other surprise team = Baltimore
Wonder what else we got from Pats? But I like Payne at 23
For that jump it should be a second rounder or a couple 3s.
Fall back 10 spots?
No fucking way.
I just refuse to believe that the team is comfortable starting someone who is currently in the building next to Trent Williams. That’s just a draft-time bob and weave.

Doug – Well the man owns the team so he is involved… and then went on to say how he’s not there very day but Bruce and Doug keep him updated on what;s going on
also guard is not a priority coaches comfortable with who they have right now
so much posturing going on I’m sure
so, they’re interested in a guard. they’re being presidential: whatever they say, the other thing is true.

I want Vea. We’ve never had a presence like him on the DL. Think about him and Allen for years. Makes your D way better.
Me too. I’m afraid Miami’s going to grab him at 11, though. Raiders could also pounce at 10.
I think that Davenport kid might go higher too and knock Vea back. I’ve seen analysts say Oakland needs secondary help so if James or Minkah slip…they’d go there.
Phil Taylor’s health will make things interesting. At least he’s been in camp participating in conditioning drills:

Skins trade pick 13 to Bills and Cardinals for their 2019 1st round picks.
Book it.
The Giants take Nelson at 2.

4. Chubb
5. Nelson
6. Fitzpatrick

9. Guice
10. Smith
11. Payne
12. Edmunds
13. (no takers on a trade down) ….
Rosen, Mudder Fugger!

1 – Browns: Darnold
2 – Giants: Rosen
3 – Jets: Allen (because they’re the Jets)
4 – Browns: Barkley
5 – Broncos: Mayfield
6 – Colts: Chubb
7 – Bucs: Smith
8 – Bears: Fitzpatrick
9 – 49ers: Edmunds
10 – Raiders: James
11 – Dolphins: Nelson
12 – Bills: Ward
13 – Redskins: ?????????
Our first and next years second to the Dolphins for Nelson?
Hate to trade up, but that’s a generational talent slipping to 11. Him next to Twill and opposite Scherff?
It’d be the best thing they could do. The draft value chart says that moving up from 13 to 11 is a 100 point swing, which is a 4th rounder, so give them next year’s 3rd, maybe.
Even better. 🙂
I’d be all in on that.
Vea!
If we stay put, that’s my pick too.
Yep.

Objection! Leading!
washington sports teams have won 6 playoff games in a row.
Breer did top 10…..he had Allen, Barkley, Darnold, Chubb, Mayfield, Roquan Smith, Edmunds, James, Fitz, and McGlinchey.
So 11-13….Ward, Vea, Nelson…in any order.
Works for me.
Please let McGlinchey jump into the top 10. That would be great. Maybe some team falls for Ridley too.
LT is important and he’s the best Tackle so its def a possibility.

And newsflash: PETA just saw this as a way to control the copyrights on those photos and make money from them. Hypocrites.
which is what the Court basically called them out on
what a ridiculous case. while i don’t like the “loser pays the winner’s court costs” because it would prevent poor people from bringing cases, there ought to be some sort of provision for frivolous lawsuits. what a ridiculous case.
There are sanctions for frivolous lawsuits.
so…. how is peta being sanctioned?
I haven’t read the pleadings.
Breer thinks Mike McGlinchy slips into the top 10.
No Quentin Nelson top 10 according to him.
So, out of the top ten….then?
Breer is very reputable…don’t confuse with Shit a port.

Quentin Nelson is the one guy I’d consider trading up a few spots to get.
He said Nelson either 11 or 12. So…..he may be there for us.
Gold jacket . I wouldn’t think twice if he was there .
Not surprisingly, I agree. He would instantly make our offensive line the best in the league, imo.
And Perine/Kelly/Thompson would all look a lot better behind that line.
They should run not walk to the podium if Nelson is there at 13.

That’s hurtful . There was supposed to be a picture .
“That’s hurtful”
Literally made me LOL.
if there is one true thing about football is that OL/DL guys get hurt during the season, there is just so much contact
so you need depth there
Amen!
I don’t think anyone would disagree with that sentiment.
This is one reason we need to draft a guard in the first three rounds. We don’t even have two starters there, much less depth.
The other reason is that while there are good guards early this draft, the quality falls off pretty quickly.
To me, guard in the top few rounds is a mandatory event. Biggest need on the team, and it’s not close.
I’m cool using our third rounder on one.
Ummm….
I’m serious though – I don’t know how they can possibly not draft a guard in either 1, 2, or 4, or possibly 3 if they make a trade.
Seriously, I’d be OK in the 4th.
Top three needs for me are DL, RB and G, in that order. If we signed Hankins, I would be good with RB and G in first two rounds, but I sincerely believe DL is a greater need than those two.
There’s just no way that DL is the biggest need on the team. We literally don’t have a starting LG at all. It’s G, RB, DL, to me.
I can see the case being made in either direction. But the draft is deeper at DL. We have at least two decent prospects at DL (Taylor, Lanier) and Hankins is still available.
On the other hand, no good FA guard. Arie K is our “best” prospect at G…. ugh. And after round 2-3 the guards are not strong this draft.
Plus there is a FA available at DL, but diddly left at guard.

Most of the mocks have the skins going defense – Vea, Payne, etc. What are the chances they fool everyone and go offense with someone like Ridley? Will fans lose their siht over that one? I wouldn’t be crazy about it but it’s hard to argue that WR isn’t a crying need. Doctson and Richardson starting on the outside have a lot of question marks going into the season.
Ridley? No thanks. That’s a guy I wouldn’t draft at 13. RB? You guys know I think highly of Derrius Guice, and I’d be happy with that.
There’s no sure-fire first round star at WR, imo.
They were raving about him on NFL network. Great route runner. Made a good point on how the good route runners have had better luck making immediate impact lately (ie JuJu Smith Schuster) than the guys with all the measurables.
WR at 13 ugh
I think the consensus was #4 level – Flinging of Poo
As long as it doesn’t go up to 11.
What happens at level 11? Mass suicide?
Mass hysteria, dogs and cats living together…..
Agreed, just playing devils advocate. I want them to go defense but it wouldn’t be the first time they pulled a surprise.
I’d be cool with it if there was a great WR there, but IMO there’s no WR in this draft worthy of the No. 13 pick.
I think Ridley will go at the bottom of round 1.
I just don’t know what we’d do with him considering they have establshed starters in Docston and Richardson. Make him compete with Crowder for playing time? Is that necessary to do with a 1st round pick, particuarly a reach? I don’t think so.
The upside is that Ridley played well last year on a passing-deficient Alabama team.
Ridley might beat out Richardson.
But then we have an overpriced FA addition sitting on the bench. That’s not a good way to spend our first pick.
Yes. Richardson has big guaranteed dollars. That dude is going to play.
Are Doctson and Richardson really established though? Maybe due to draft position and FA money but not really based on play yet. We have a new veteran QB and it would be nice to give him some targets.
Be good to protect him and give him a running game too.
Too many holes… too few picks.
Certainly.
They are established – Docston has two years of a fully guaranteed contract left, and they just signed up Richardson for $40M with $16.5M guaranteed. That makes them established whether they should be or not.
They have both suffered through injuries also. If one of them goes down we’re screwed. I do think we have more pressing needs elsewhere but I think the argument could be made that WR is enough of a need that they could go for one in round 1 if they have one rated high enough.
JAllen, Hankins, Payne as the starting DL is really good
Allen, Hankins, and Ioannidis is good too.
Ioannidis, Allen, Payne would be good and cheap
That was be good too.
And injury prone
I don’t think we need to add two starters. One starter and a rotational guy at most.
We were not better than our record last year. And looking at next year’s schedule, and the lack of offseason upgrades we’ve made, I don’t see us peeking much above .500 next year either.
You’re never better than your record.
The team had the talent to do better had they stayed reasonably healthy.
Rumor, by the way, is that Hankins is down to either Redskins or Jets. Just saying.
Fingers crossed
The guy they should’ve tried to sign was Dontari Poe.
I think Hankins is more of 3 down guy than Poe
but all these guys have some issues which most of the people here just don’t get
you may get nearly the same production from Lanier at much less cost
Hankins is three years younger and is better against the run
I don’t think so.
Their stats are almost identical and again Hankins is three years younger
Hasn’t Poe had back issues also? He played well last year but that would be worrisome if it’s the case.
I just think more of Poe. Can’t really put my finger on why. Better attitude, maybe.
To me, this is a team in desperate need of playmaking ball handlers. Jordan Reed is the sole ball handler on this team that any defense needs to game plan for. Crowder is the only other player on the roster who’s even average. I think Thompson is effective, but only in limited doses, and he doesn’t really scare anyone either.
I don’t think the defensive front 7 is nearly as bad as some of you do, despite the rankings. That unit was literally devastated by injuries.
I also think the offensive line is one more player and some health away from outstanding.
Playmakers is what they need. Hopefully Paul Richardson can provide that from a receiver standpoint, and hopefully Docston will continue to make progress. The runnings backs outside of Thompson are below average, at best. They need to find a young tight end.
The problem is we have more needs than picks.
The best solution would probably include Hankins, and a trade down.
I just hope people don’t think Jon Hankins is a panacea or the next Reggie White. He’s good, and I hope he comes here, but he’s a guy who’s never been in a pro bowl and who’s been a free agent two years in a row.
Coming here he would be the best DL on the team by far
Wrong
Who’s better
Jonathan Allen is a better player.
It’s entirely possible that Hankins gets his contact, comes here, and is a JAG.
Disagree
If people do, it isn’t me. I just think he’s a nice solid run-stopping piece on the D line.
I also think we will likely have to overpay to get him, which I don’t prefer.
But, he’s the only FA left that could be a solid fill for one of our many needs.
If anyone has a chance on this roster to become a big impact player this year IMO it’s John Allen.
Maybe not White, but there’s no reason to think that he couldn’t be an 8-10 sack DT
I agree with this.
Hankins is no panacea to be sure… but he’s an instant upgrade over at least 3 of our current d linemen… and shouldn’t that be the goal… upgrading?
Sure, I’m all for him coming here, absolutely.
Our draft will have something for everyone
we will draft a DL, OL, RB, DB, TE
in what order will be the most important queston
I’ve always kinda thought a team needs to try and keep some balance check each basic box every draft come away with at least one new guy on the offensive line, in the front seven, in the secondary, and a new offensive weapon. You need to get 1 guy in all 4 general areas each season.
That’s called smart drafting. Smart GMs don’t just run around their facility in their tighty-whiteys screaming “BPABPABPABPABPABPABPABPABPABPABPABPABPABPABPABPA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

lots of updates going on as people finalize their mocks
Vita Vea, DT, Washington 39
Derwin James, S, Florida State 14
Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State 10
Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama 7
Roquan Smith, ILB, Georgia 6
Da’Ron Payne, DT, Alabama 6
Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech 5
Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama 4
Derrius Guice, RB, LSU 3
Marcus Davenport, DE, Texas-San Antonio 1
a lot of “1 hit” picks are now gone as people get more realistic
Vea pulling out to a huge lead
Oooooooo, the big 5
Minus Davenport and Ridley there’s not a terrible pick in the bunch.
713 who on our DL is a game influencer

Don’t tell me Allen until he can stay healthy for a full season
Amen!
Noone is definitely a game changer on the blog.
I’m not sure how he’d do in the trenches. From my understanding, dude is getting up there in years. 🙂
Do we go full-on “manhandled”?
Five games
Until he can show me otherwise he’s injury prone
I vote for no one also .
The simple fact of the matter is that the defensive front 7 was achieving decent success until the injuries hit. They aren’t the ’85 Bears, no, but they weren’t nearly as awful as some think, or as the end of season results indicated – I place a large amount of that on the soul-crushing injury situation.
And if injuries strike again what then
We kick that motherfuckin’ can as hard as possible.
Well, then they’ll be bad again, obviously. That doesn’t mean we need to go full-hog on drafting 687,498,567 interior defensive linemen.
But 2 would be nice
Yes we need two for sure. Unless we sign Hankins which probably won’t happen. Although it should.
well we have that new healing and rehab center , I think . Maybe that means we don’t need depth .
Do we? I wasn’t aware that was complete
IDK . It probably isn’t .
I think the story about it said it will be ready by the start of camp. But not sure if that happened. Remember the bubble was supposed to be ready and didn’t happen for like 1/2 a year or something.
The offensive line had 17 different lineups last year and still performed.
I think as fans we overvalue some of our players but I certainly hope you guys are right and I am wrong
Two road games back to back in Texas . How nice .
Texans is a home game.
My bad
Football games are better in Texas….
Bigger, more shinier, ect.
3 years in a row playing the Cards. We always seem to play Tampa and Minny too. Tho no Minny this year.
also, about the schedule: for purely personal reasons, i don’t like the thanksgiving game.
What could be the reason you don’t like the Thanksgiving game
please, look away, zig:
messes up dinner/family time, etc…. it’s fine when other teams are playing and i can bop in and out and catch snippets of the game. if the skins are on i have to watch the whole thing.
🙂
I agree with all this.
I don’t mind that they have thanksgiving games, but they need to cut the one in the 4:00-8:00 slot, that’s when normal people do family dinner stuff.
normal is only a setting on a washing machine
Unless, of course, you don’t reside in an East Coast time slot…
It’s not all about you Alex
oh you’re supposed to actually sit down with the family and eat Thanksgiving meal?
That’s what “normal” people do……I have this from the highest level of excellence.
Turkey clogs up his bowels
Most of us have gathered that, from your continued posts on the subject.
jeez… dude. i believe i mentioned it ONCE.
One day, or one post? I understand your passion, I feel your pain. Can we be friends?
I think you are mixing up walter who sometimes says it and me who shouts it loudly.
If we didn’t blow the Saints game in epic fashion…we’re 8-8. Not sure I can think of any more games we “should have won”.
Should have won vs the Giants both games.
We did beat them on TG. The last game of the season…Jay punted. So did Kurt.
Which they shouldn’t have.
as last season fades into the rear-view mirror, i’m coming to believe/accept/rationalize that we were better than our record. injuries were epic. even with our late-game collapse, it was that terrible grounding call in NO that cost us that game.
I agree with you. I think they would’ve been much better without the historic rash of injuries, particularly on defense.
week 4, but yeah. crazy. i feel like all teams should their bye between weeks 7 and 11 or something like that.
I agree, but I also think the team has lost a lot of talent this off season, and those who are replacing said talent, it’s questionable.
i think cousins/smith is a wash (or maybe even a slight positive). lost fuller, breeland, what other good players?
Cousins/Smith I don’t see any way it is more of a positive, not till they prove it on the field.
I hate the losses of Fuller, Bree, Long, Murphy. To me that was part of the makings for the redskins “core” group of talent over the next 4-5 years if you had been able to keep them.
I think Smith is an upgrade over Cousins, definitively. Mentally, the guy’s much better, and he’s been great over the last couple of seasons.
We will see. To me, I’d rather have stuck with a guy who knew the system and was putting up good numbers.
Looking back on it, Cousins was alot of drama, and I think there’s truth to the thought that he didn’t play well in pressure situations. Smith isn’t either of those things. His only knock, to me, is his age.
Cousins drama, was as much Redskins drama, maybe wouldn’t have existed if they had gotten a deal done.
Smith the knock is age and historically, not a lot of big stats.
You need to look back at Smith’s recent stats.
His best season looks very close to Kirk’s worst, except INT’s, he’s way better at not turning it over, I’ll give him that. Until I see him get near that 5,000 mark, I need him to prove he can run a more pass heavy offense.
“rather”, sure. but he did not want to be here. f him.
I listed all of them below.
i see your list of good players. i’m asking for a list of good players we’ve lost this offseason.
Another sub .500 season.
Start shopping coaches.
Start shopping GM’s
Hellz yea
That’s the fix eye roll
the first thing that jumped out at me was the ridiculously early bye week. that’s bogus.
Yes, week 3 is bad. I probably should’ve mentioned that.
That you would have a bye week possible when a teams only through 18% of the schedule, it makes no sense.
It’s about what makes sense for setting up the best TV matchups. What best for teams isn’t a factor.
Over the last 8 years we’ve had a bye in week 4 or 5 50% of the time… week 8,9, or 10 the other 50%
week 4, but yeah. that’s crazy. i feel like all teams should their bye between weeks 7 and 11 or something like that.
No prime time games is a great thing
If the Redskins could play every game at 1:00 on Sunday, I’d be happy.
3 games
Well, 2 and Thanksgiving
Most everyone agrees that we will be in the 7-9 to 9-7 range this year.
What happens to Gruden if so? Is he a two-game swing from being fired?
Wasn’t Raljon dropped from the map?
Yes. That’s just me poking at Dan Snyder.
Should be dropped from existence completely
That’s the bit.
The basic gist of this column is that unless something dramatic happens, I think we’re headed for another average mediocre season.
I think looking at the schedule average mediocre would be optimistic.
I feel really down on this season.
Well, my low end prediction was 5 – 11.
Yeah, unless someone unexpected takes their game to the next level, like Allen becomes an all pro-DT, or Doctson blows past the 1K marker. I’m more in that range.
I would tend to agree with that. Now if we can truly stay healthy… slightly better than average
Regardless, I’m sick of it.
I think we may have an above average roster, but this is a schedule where you need to be good to very good to go 10-11 wins.
If Alex can not start off slow and we stay healthy we’ll be on the positive side of .500.
Now after the draft and FA…
I’d say there’s very little chance of 11 wins, particularly considering that the last team to win at least 11 games was the 1991 Super Bowl team.
who on the roster is above average? I disagree with your premise.
Above Average position groups: O-Line (outside LG we are good to very good on the OL), TE, OLB, ILB, K/P
Average: QB, CB, S
Below Average: WR, HB, DL
I don’t think a healthy DL is below average.
Above average starters: Trent, Jordan Reed, Scherff, Moses, Alex Smith, Crowder, Jonathan Allen, Zach Brown, Kerrigan, Josh Norman, DJ Swearinger.
Below average starters: whatever our LG situation is, Perine, Doctson, Hood, McGee (if he can be called a starter).
I’d say the rest of the guys are about league average.
I’d also say CB2 spot is at least a big question mark.
Run blocking on the oline hasn’t been good for a while… this brings their rating down
Better than shitty boss!

damnit! beat me here Scamp…lol
Noticed we play Carolina this season… but in DC.
Woulda traveled to that game in NC.
Pretty good chance I will be at the JAX game.
Was thinking about driving down to that game
yes, about 5 1/2 to 6 hour drive. not too bad
Lotta drives like that around there… Titans games, DC, Jax
DC is 8, Titans, idk but at least 9 maybe 10.
Ah… that seems like a lot
yes, Atlanta and Charlotte are about my limit unless making a weekend of it, like a 3 day weekend.
What about Tampa, I’d assume if Jax is possible on a long weekend so would be Tampa
Not from South Carolina
Been to a few games there in Charlotte. Nice stadium and even nicer fans..unlike up north
