I watched the path to the draft or whatever last night…with Will Hernandez, Josh Rosen, Derwin James, and a few other dudes. It was awesome. Hernandez lived in a Home Depot Shed cause his dad lost his job, and James is from a bad part of Florida…but both are awesome kids. We’d be lucky to have either one at 13.
I had a cousin who lived in a home depot shed. Was trying the whole Thoreau thing. He was later killed by a tree.
Home Depot sheds are conventionally framed tiny houses, only lacking; insulation, wiring, and plumbing. Finish it out, you have a very small house. A shed is a pole building with sawboards nailed on the side, and a tin roof.

this past weekend my daughter had a soccer tournament here at home in Myrtle Beach. I saw a guy there lots of teams from all over the Carolinas and I saw a guy wearing what looked like an official NC State Wolfpack shirt and sure enough he was part of the football weight training program there. I asked him about chub and he said he’s going to be ferocious at the next level of course they’re all a little biased with their kids but I said to him I said I hope my Redskins somehow get lucky and get him he point at me and nodded his head and smiled. take that for what it’s worth.

I remember never giving a shit about the draft when I was a young Redskins fan, say, 12. I would hear about it on the local news (George Michael) and let the names go in one ear and out the other because back then, you’d not see any of those players (for the most part) for 2 or 3 years.
I remember watching old footage of the drafts from the early 80s and there was zero fanfare, just some dudes in a holiday inn making picks.
On note cards. It was not made into a TV worthy deal until the late 80’s (like ’89) early 90’s.
They had to wait till the masses were dumbed down to get in a froth about it LOL

Well, I happen to know alot about military medicine and senior ranking military doctors, in particular, for reasons that I’m not going to get into here.
Some flag officer doctors are great leaders and managers who have been in positions of great responsibility, leading hundreds or thousands of people and controlling huge sums of money.
Others are just doctors who are good at medicine and have been in the right place at the right time to get promoted.
Jackson is the latter. I’ve never met him, don’t know him, but I’ve studied his military bio. He doesn’t have the experience to suggest that he should run the entire VA, in my opinion.

Russell Wilson has become what I hoped RG3 would become. RG3 obviously lacks the mental makeup to succeed in the NFL, plus he’s injury prone.
I still think there’s a place in the NFL for a QB who is a quality pocket passer but who can also use his athleticism effectively.
Although, Wilson misses a quite a few reads because he scrambles out of the pocket too early and wants to run, so I don’t think that he’s quite the ideal model of what I’m talking about either.

Luck is signed through 2021, he will be 32 when he hits free agency.
Tannehill is signed till 2020, and will also be 32 when he hits free agency.
My gut tells me Tannehill is the Jay Cuttler, gets a second career with some struggling team for another 4 years or so before calling it a career. But not sure what to make of Luck’s career.

Andrew Luck is an elite passer and student of the game, but the Colts have ruined him by allowing him to get absolutely plastered with sacks and by having terrible talent around him. In the right hands, which isn’t the Colts, I think he could’ve been a HOFer. As it is, in 5 years I think he’ll still be in Indy, but still hurt alot and having accomplished nothing.
So, you think he stays there, gets worn down. But how long can a guy do that? Does he play with that to 35?

Truly, the NFL has only themselves to blame for this entire controversy.
They should’ve cut off the protests week 1, said “no more, period, this is our product, not your platform”, and been done with it. Would’ve made some players mad for awhile, but then they’d have gotten over it, because they want to continue to get paid huge amounts of money.
Now, the NFL’s limp-wristed attempt to toe the line has resulted in me and my people furious at the league for allowing these spoiled players to continue their disrespectful actions, and it has those on the other side furious that the players aren’t being fully supported in their social justice efforts.
The NFL tried to make everyone happy, and only succeeded in making about 85% of people made, the remaining 25% being the people who don’t care either way. In other words, it blew up in their face.
As far as whatever this recording is, it’ll only be leaked to the NYT and published if it help furthers their war against the president.

Sometimes, you just reach, because of need, and that’s cool. But if they pass on Vea/James/Fitz/Smith, etc, and stay put for one of those guys, I’ll be disappointed.

I’ve said this on air many times…if they draft a guy at, say, 13 who a bunch of draft nudnicks think should be drafted at 20, I utterly don’t care at all. Just pick the right guy, and if he’s successful and becomes a maintstay of the team, all is well from my perspective.
That’s not to say that they should draft a guy who’s most likely ranked 30, but a few spots? I think it’s essentially irrelevant, particularly since no one, least of all Mel Kiper, really knows what the Redskins scouts think of the player.
Exactly. Just because Kiper, Mayock, etc., have a guy ranked somewhere doesn’t mean the teams have him ranked similarly and often don’t.

So we were talking the other day about our old personal drafts, but I’m not sure if we were talking about the same thing. What I’ve been doing for a few years is not a pre-draft mock, but actually doing a live, “who I would have picked” draft as the actual draft unfolds. Be kind of fun to compare notes if others did it too. You could even have a contest 2-3 yrs. down the road to see who drafted best. I’d propose basing the scoring on Pro Football Reference’s “career AV” score, which is their attempt to give every player an “added value” grade.
I’m kicking the Redskins’ ass over the last two years, with a total score of 64, versus 38 for SM/BA. 😛

Not hard work at all! We’re all watching the draft. We’re all saying, “pick this guy pick this guy pick this guy.” That’s the guy you would have drafted. You just have to write it down and keep it. Posted it the day after the draft so there’s not too much fudging. Can still be a little fudging, though, if it isn’t posted in real time.
I’m game. But I’ll just be taking the consensus of what I’ve read and calling for BPA with consideration of PON.
Still, I honestly think sometimes these teams (not just Skins) over-think it and would be better to just do the same.

They’re all only *potential* blue chippers at this point. To me, Payne has less potential than others (Vea, Derwin, Fitzpatrick, RSmith, Edmunds, Ward). He has potential, but I don’t understand why he was SO much better in the last two games of his college career than he was in the preceding 37 games.
I like Payne more than Vea…I think Payne is more versatile.
Fitzpatrick is definitely a versatile dude, but (without reading the linked piece), I’m not sure he’s really a full-time slot corner. Seems like a true safety, probably, to me, with the ability to do other things.

A friend of mine does late night security at a Perkins (northern late-night breakfast place) and he has told some awful stories.
People get all messed up and then just want to be rude and outrageous. When security and/or cops have to haul them off, they resist, hit people, spit, call them all kinds of names, etc.
There’s just a huge cultural disparity between what some of these folks (black, white, whatever) think is ok at 3am and what sober, law-enforcing, business-protecting, peace keeping paid protectors see as reasonable.

Just for one day, I would like CNN, MSN, etc. to highlight news stories about cops who arrest violent, armed criminals without anybody getting shot or hurt.
They’d have 100s, probably 1000s, of stories to choose from. It would be cool for the country to see it up close. Cops, on the whole, do a fantastic job dealing with people they know are unhinged and dangerous. And as a nation we should have a lot more gratitude for the peace they keep.

But it would be nice (kind of like my unlikely dream draft scenarios) if they could do that for a day.
They’ll never do that. Those media outlets you mentioned have internal anti-police and pro-left wing agendas that they are trying to push, and pro-law enforcement stories don’t jive with that.
I had a friend who was a video editor at CNN in Atlanta, and he eventually quit and went home to Illinois because he was so disgusted with the agendas being pushed by the various segment producers.
First, I think you DO see these sorts of normal arrests all the time on CNN etc., e.g., the Waffle House shooter, etc.
Second, news outlets in general don’t comment on how well done arrests usually are because that isn’t news. Just like you see stories about dog attacks but they don’t cover dogs just being nice. You see stories about cars slamming into buildings but they don’t do stories about cars just driving around normally. Because … it isn’t news.
I get that and acknowledge it below, I think.
But, a dog not biting isn’t heroic. Neither is a car just driving down the street. Cops peacefully arresting armed/dangerous crazy people is heroic.
And I get that heroic actions aren’t as entertaining as horrific ones, and thus don’t sell and thus aren’t shown.
I guess my larger point is that sometimes we need a reminder of the good people do.
I don’t disagree, but you could extend that to a lot of areas: doctors saving lives, firemen, troops, lawyers writing really good briefs…. Okay, maybe not the latter. 😉

I hear you. And probably all of them need some level of image re-branding. But I think cops have gotten the worst of that (negative optics) lately, and to some degree deservedly. I rarely hear young people talk badly about docs, firemen, troops or even lawyers (gasp), but I consistently hear a message of hate from young people on cops. A lot of that stems from what they see in the media. (That’s not to say the bad cops shouldn’t be punished, and be disdained for that matter.)

It’s never good news to be off the draft board of multiple teams, but that’s exactly what’s happening to Maurice Hurst, according to ESPN’s Todd McShay.
Not only have some teams taken Hurst off their board, but McShay also believes that Hurst could slip in the draft all the way to day three on Saturday, which are rounds four-seven.
“Because of the nature of his heart condition, several teams have taken him off their board. It’s a risk-reward issue, but he could fall into Day 3,” McShay said.
The key word here is “could” fall into day 3, that doesn’t mean Hurst should or will.
While I’m sure McShay did hear teams have taken Hurst off their board and that he could fall into day three, that nature of his heart condition isn’t precedent for Hurst to have a crazy downward spiral when it comes to his draft stock.
As previously noted, Hurst’s heart condition is the same as the one Panthers defensive lineman Star Lotulelei had at the NFL Combine, and Lotulelei ended up being drafted 14th overall.

my wife enjoyed the fact that there was no wizards or caps game on last night. we watched some episodes of “blacklist” together. tonight, game 5, it’s back upstairs for her – i mean, unless she wants to watch… which she does not even in the least….
I hope the TV and stereo are as good as what’s downstairs.
sound is not as good, but she’ll probably watch DVR’ed episodes of “this is us” or something, while doing prep work for sunday’s big event.

The link I sent below was from a general manager stating that there about 90 players in this draft that are starters or potential starters. This makes the first 3 Rounds crucial and of course we only have 2 pics
