Roster moves: Redskins sign 7 of 8 draft picks

The Redskins announced this afternoon that they have signed 7 of the team’s 8 picks in the recent NFL Draft. The only pick who remains unsigned is offensive tackle Geron Christian, selected in the third round out of Louisville.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed, but all rookie draft pick contracts are 4 years in length. The NFL’s collective bargaining agreement provides teams with a 5th year option in all first round draft pick contracts, so the Redskins have a 5th year option on Daron Payne. The 2011 CBA established a rookie salary pool for all teams, and although teams are technically allowed to shift money from one draft pick to another, as a practical matter, the projected cap hits for each player are already established. According to www.spotrac.com, the following are the 2018 projected cap hits for each rookie:
Rd 1, pick 13: DT Daron Payne – $2,643,642
Rd 2, pick 59: RB Derrius Guice – $829,379
Rd 3, pick 74: OT Geron Christian – $724,750 (unsigned)
Rd 4, pick 109: S Troy Apke – $652,422
Rd 5, pick 163: DT Tim Settle – $526,793
Rd 6, pick 197: ILB Shaun-Dion Hamilton – $504,764
Rd 7, pick 241: CB Greg Stroman – $498,944
Rd 7, pick #256 (Mr. Irrelevant): WR Trey Quinn – $497,268
During this offseason, the contracts of the bottom four picks – Settle, Hamilton, Stroman, and Quinn – will fall under the Rule of 51 and will not count against the salary cap.
Our salary cap page on this website will be updated with these contract numbers in the next few days; however, the total projected cap hits for all of these rookie draft picks and the projected Rule of 51 is already shown at the bottom of the chart.

I am not hoping, rather, I am expecting the Washington Redskins to be 2-0, having beaten the Cards and the Colts respectively, going into the week 3 match up at home with Green Bay. I am not defaulting to a loss against GB either. AR12 is one of the best ever but his passing targets have changed a lot over the last couple seasons. Our defense will be more disruptive up front.
I’ve got the optimistic outlook going on for the first four games too. Should we have a good, physical camp…3-1 is looking plenty doable.

what Tampa is saying about game last night
You didn’t think it was going to be easy, did you? You didn’t think the Washington Capitals were just going to show up and play patsy as the Lightning steamrolled its way to the Stanley Cup final, right?
Well, if that’s what you thought then you and the Lightning were all in for rude awakenings Friday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final.
Turns out, this Caps team is pretty good. And, oh, you can forget all that baloney about Washington just being happy to be here. Looks as if they have some plans of their own, Stanley Cup plans that include busting through Tampa Bay to get there.
The Lightning came out flat and then got really flattened. The final score was 4-2. Don’t be fooled. It wasn’t that close. It was brutal loss, the kind that shakes confidences and plants doubts.
Now the good news is the Lightning has been in this spot before. Just last round, it got blown out by the Bruins in Game 1 and rallied to win the next four games. Time and time again the past few years, this group has suffered what appeared to be shattering losses only to put the pieces back together again and claw back to life.
The bad news? The Lightning isn’t playing the Bruins anymore. Washington is bigger than Boston. Tougher. Scarier. Stingier on defense. Steadier in goal. More dangerous on offense.
In a word: better.

So with Scott Campbells exit Kyle Smith is praised as the next top scout/future GM. I would pump the breaks a minute….neither Campbell nor Smith had the foresight to draft a legit G last 2 years. When teams know we’re running, say 1st and goal on the one, our interior O-line typically gets pushed into the backfield!

The main HGH right now, is the synthetic version of that deer antler stuff, I can’t remember the name of it. Hospitals have it. I know a body builder guy who has experimented with it, him and his wife (also a bodybuilder). You won’t get it prescribed, all I’m saying… I remember seeing the growth in lean muscle mass with both of them, crazy. They did thorough screenings for cancerous cells, first, were very well informed about what they were doing. I’m pretty sure the NFL tests for it, I know the peeps doing their shows did.

Certain drugs can be used either for performance enhancement OR for medical purposes. I think that’s what we’re talking about here.
To be clear, for those who somehow don’t already know this, there’s a difference between performance enhancing steroids – i.e., anabolic steroids – and the kinds of steroids a doctor is going to give you for your allergies.
The drug tests the NFL uses are highly sophisticated . They pick up masking agents , and pretty much everything down to a T .
For example, Testosterone, which is an anabolic steroid, is FDA approved and used by hundreds of thousands of people for legitimate medical purposes.
Men with low T , yes . Doubting that applies to elite athletes in their prime . It’s possible but in a very linited number i would bet .

Remember, alot of the HGH and some of the steroids these guys are taking is on the federal drug schedule and thus illegal.
Well, for one, some percentage of PED use isn’t proscribed by a doctor and thus in many cases illegal under state and federal law. Same thing with marijuana under the drugs of abuse policy. But the stuff that’s legal (and in GNC) that is contrary to the NFL drug policy is because the NFL, as a brand, doesn’t want to be seen as encouraging its employees to engage in behaviors that have long-term unknown and unintended consequences. Plus, they also want the playing field to be level without basically forcing everyone to take PEDs.
Same applies to the IOC – which has a much, much stricter PED policy, testing procedure, and consequences for failure, along with all other major sports leagues, NBA and MLB, certainly. I don’t know about the NHL’s drug policy, but I assume they have one. Soccer doesn’t count as a sport.

eventually this will be, partly because new research means you don’t have to take roids to spike the heck out of the hormones you need to hasten work, whether that’s working out or recovering from severe injury. you can get pills right now that don’t have any testosterone in them, but they’ll dramatically increase the blood activity of it, by scavenging some compounds and preventing testosterone from being converted to things like estrogen. we’re prob a few decades away, but in the near-ish future we’ll all be manipulating major hormones in that way. 120 is the new 65.

No, not really. You’d just have to establish a policy where the steroid (or whatever) is only administered during the healing process, and the player has to test clean before returning to football activities.
Or better yet, don’t implicitly encourage players to take drugs. They already do a bad enough job with the pain killers.

Antibiotics have been tested and approved by the FDA and usually have decades of scientific research behind them, and are for the most part prescribed by a physician except for the rare medication that is available over the counter. Good job on bringing up a silly comparison.
I hate to break it to you, Steve, but steroids like Prednisone have also been tested and approved by the FDA and are used all the time to treat a host of conditions. Not being a doctor, I don’t know what kind, or even IF steroids would be medically useful for torn muscle recovery. Treating it as more of a hypothetical.

If I recall correctly, Manning had the highest at $18 million when Denver won. They say you can’t win in this league without a QB, but apparently you can’t win a Superbowl if you’re paying him too much…no matter how good he is!
And the year Manning won he was probably between 30-32nd worst starting QB in the league.

I think that analysis is wrong. Well, indirectly wrong. Salaries are an issue, and QBs get paid the most, but the big issue is that when you start to have success, you can’t pay everyone. And it is hard to replicate what you had when it breaks apart. For example, it’s hard to have sustained success because when you win, everyone wants to get paid, and everyone else pays a winner. Most teams do not have a good plan for sustaining it because it may not be the same type of plan they had to get there in the first place.

There have been studies done on this. I remember hearing Chris Frates talk on it on his podcast, the average politician tells the truth, 85-90% of the time. Trumps stats when it comes to the quantifiable were significantly lower, I don’t remember what it was, but well below 50%.
Now, some things you can’t really grade. Obviously, political opinions are never really true or false. IE, if I say America should have universal health care, that’s an opinion, you can disagree or agree. If I said “Universal healthcare would only cost us 50 billion a year in taxes” obviously that’s a lie, the cost would be in the trillions.
However when it comes to quantifiable facts, if the numbers for most are in the B to A- range, that sounds about right.
I figured someone out there had some sorta data. I just happen to think its a fruitless pursuit to start comparing the quantity of lies politicians spew.
We are in a data obsessed era in politics, so yeah, it is no wonder that there’s news people who are tracking that stuff now. Generally I think it is a good thing to start tracking and as I’ve said before, I thing the best thing to do would be have several outlets with different biases starting to track that kind of thing, it would be a huge public service in the grand scheme, just like how we have organizations that track campaign financing. I’d love to see FOX try and track the number of lie’s from Pelosi/Schumer, make a damn spreadsheet and put it out there for us to see.
The best way to solve our nations problems is to have a well informed public.

A new analysis of satellite images and seismic waves from North Korea’s nuclear test site support theories that the underground facility has at least partially collapsed.
Seismologists across the world have been tracking the clandestine nuclear weapons program for years by analyzing vibrations that emanate from explosions at the test site under Mount Mantap (SN: 8/5/17, p. 18). Now, researchers have paired 3-D satellite images of Mount Mantap with seismic tremor data to simulate how the mountain’s interior might have changed after a hydrogen bomb test on September 3, 2017.
The simulations indicate that the blast — which triggered an earthquake of estimated magnitude 6.3 — caused a cave-in directly above the detonation site, researchers report online May 10 in Science.The simulations also suggest that a second rock collapse, about 700 meters south of the detonation site, caused a smaller quake about eight minutes after the initial explosion.
These rock falls, which caused the face of Mount Mantap to sink about 0.5 meters, could have buried part or all of the underground test facility, rendering it unusable, says study coauthor Teng Wang, a remote sensing and geodesy
researcher at the Earth Observatory of Singapore.
The results support another seismic analysis published online April 27 in Geophysical Research Letters suggesting
an underground collapse at Mantap. That study led some media to speculate that North Korea didn’t pledge in April to halt nuclear testing because of international pressure, but because the test site could no longer be used.
