2001 Lakers who only lost one game the whole playoffs…
No one on the 76ers could guard Shaq…and he only averaged 33pts per game…that Lakers team averaged 102pts per game. They’re getting cooked by the Warriors…by like 25pts per game!

The 3 pt shooting 4 or 5 is the obvious change. What is Durant? 6’11” and is darn near impossible to defend behind the arc? Its uncanny. They just didn’t have that in yesterday’s game.
There have been tall guys who were good shooters before, but Durant is the total package. Put a big guy on him outside the arc and he’s just going to go right around him and flush it. Put a smaller guy on him and he’ll drain the three.
Durant is the guy who’d be scarier for some of the old school great teams more than Curry.
Exactly!!! It’s not about who on the Warriors is guarding the big men of the past. It’s about how those big men will guard the elite shooters on the perimeter and how those teams can keep up making their 2pt baskets., while the Warriors are draining 3’s left and right!

Lebron is the most similar to Magic, but he doesn’t have Magic’s court vision or passing ability. Lebron’s advantage is more the gifts of his athleticism moreso than Magic’s advantages.

The Warriors would outscore them….it’s not a matter of who’s guarding Shaq or Hakeem. 3pts is more than 2pts. The onus is on them to keep up with the Warriors. Not the other way around.
And Kareem, too. The Warriors aren’t outscoring the Showtime Lakers and wouldn’t have any defensive answer for that combo of players. It’d be a game I’d want to watch, for sure.
3 is more than 2, but even GS when hot is only shooting around 50% from three. Shaq shot around 60% from the field on a daily basis, not to mention all the free throws (of which he only made about half!).
Yet he still averaged 35-40pts a game. You need 2 or 3 30pt scorers to keep up with this Warriors abomination…

A team with Shaq at center playing the Warriors – be it Orlando, the Lakers, or even the Heat in Shaq’s later years, would play inside out and let Shaq go on a reign of terror. As dominant as he was…Durant’s point total would keep up and offset Shaq’s but who’s getting the other 50-60pts on that lakers team to keep up with Steph and Klay?

Truthfully, Shaq would have a field day against those guys. So you’re looking at Shaq having an all-time great series against the Warriors, and Durant isn’t getting to the rim against him. Shaq’s point total would definitely be more than Durant.

The old school defense was more physical argument has been a lil embellished imo. I’ve posted a few clips of some of the “vaunted” defenses Jordan had to face and more and more people with nothing better to do have been posting evidence of lackadaisical defense from back in the day on twitter! Plus most of those physical defenses you refer to would struggle mightily against this Warriors team. You need 5 perimeter defenders against this squad. Name your team and I’d be happy to take a look, but I’ve researched this quite a bit already, and most of teams I feel you’ll mention don’t really have a PF or C who can guard Draymond or Durant on the perimeter.
I’d also put up the best of the Showtime Era Lakers teams up against GS. They could easily put up 130 pts a game without even having to resort to many threes. That team could run GS into the ground with the fast break.

I think it’s a very legit comparison, actually. Those Lakers teams played at an incredibly fast pace.
Draymond Green isn’t stopping Magic Johnson, and the Warriors don’t have anyone to match up against Kareem. They’d put Michael Cooper on Curry defensively – Cooper is taller and has longer arms.
For arguments sake, let’s say a team had, Tim Duncan and David Robinson at the 4/5. Golden State hits about 34% 3 pointers (2% better at home 2% worse on the road… 2018 stats). That’s similar to hitting 50% from the field inside the 3. What do you think Robinson/Duncan’s % is in the paint against those guys? 55-60%?

I think alot of old school teams playing under the defensive rules of the time would get very physical with them and probably beat these Warriors. And there were several championship caliber teams back in the day that could put up tons of point, too.

Over on ProBasketballTalk there’s a story about what the Rockets need to do to even the series with the Warriors. The answer is unfortunately unobtainable. You have to be able to shoot better than them. And no team can! They have 3 of the best 5 shooters in the league, including Curry who is the best shooter ever!

maybe it depends on the rules of the day. no way in hell durant or curry or whoever snakes his way into the paint for a layup in the old days. they’d have been, uh… manhandled.
I believe they could Walter. A big reason they can get by an opposing defender is because you really have to play aggressive at the perimeter. You can’t just let them keep shooting 3’s.
Again to put this team into perspective. They were a Championship quality squad that added the second best player on the planet.
it’s chicken or egg. (correct answer in that case is “egg”, but that’s another topic). they’re so deadly because you have to lay off a bit to protect against the drive to the basket. that said, they are incredible perimeter shooters. not all that fun to watch, except to appreciate the skill it takes to shoot those that well.
Kerr has done an incredible job too. The Warriors move the ball and really don’t settle for “bad” shots. Durant and Curry settle for “bad” shots, but any shot they take is not really a “bad” shot.

That’s funny! Elite shooters will always have a place in the league. Kerr was an elite shooter, but yes an absolute defensive liability in his day and would be today too. In the last Bulls Championship, Jordan was being guarded by Stockton and Hornacek! At those points in their careers, they couldn’t possibly stay in front of him! They would’ve been cooked by this Warriors team! #COOKED…that Jazz squad would’ve been swept by an average of 20pts a game! In that series they averaged about 81pts per game. The Cavs averaged 114pts per game and were no match for the Warriors

Well, he’d probably be one. 475 career shooting percentage and 25,000 pts before the 3 pt shot. But there are guards who have a career shooting percentage of over 50%
For one thing, Steve Kerr has a higher career three point percentage over many more years. Guys like Steve Nash and Tim Legler are right there with Curry, but over many more seasons. Plus, there are some old school guys who were great shooters didn’t have the benefit of the 3 point shot.
Curry is a great shooter, but its way too early to anoint him the best ever.

if you want an electric car for city and commuting use, the Nissan Leaf is the way to go. from what one reads, it’s a pretty good car, has a 150 mi range (soon a longer one) and is the cheapest of the major competitors out there. And for most families, that’s also plenty for the second car. The only time I would be anywhere near that range is if I drove to a place for business, and that’d be easy enough to rent a car the twice a year I do that. For everything else, families already have one SUV or minivan. It even has a Bose stereo and a lot of the toys.
If you want a fast drag racer, Tesla makes a few models that are pretty good for that. Just don’t take it to a runway and race a 911 turbo.

i think DPayne is the plan at NT in base looks, but that won’t be a whole lot of the time. him and Allen at the tackes in 4 man fronts should be effective.

If I were doing it I’d have different guys in different packages, but here’s my rough idea of what I see:
Base- DE -Allen, Ioannidis | NT- McGee
Run stuffing- DE Payne, Allen | NT- McGee
Pass Rush- DE- Lannier , Allen | NT- Settle
Eventually I’d hope to see someone take the NT job from McGee.

I think the fact that those guys start on our defense offers some clue as to why our defense sucks in general! But i’m hoping that we’ve fortified our defensive line to the point where it hides our weaknesses.
Smith had 8 sacks last season. Foster was hurt, but the year before was over 100 Tkls.

If I could just tell you a story about a time I paid $500 dollars for a shot of Jim Beam. I was once going to help a buddy work on his house in VA; I lived in MD at the time. I bought a small bottle of Jim Beam on the way and decided to take a swig for the long drive. Lo and behold an undercover cop saw me take that drink and pulled me over. I gave him my license and registration…and the bottle! He poured everything out and I took a field sobriety test. After both my license and registration checked out and I passed the test, the officer asked me if I had anything else in the vehicle and even asked to search my vehicle. I refused…told him I gave him the alcohol and everything else checked out, so he’d need a warrant for that! So they held me for a few minutes threatening to call the dogs in to check for other paraphernalia…ya know… since alcohol is a “gateway drug.” The dogs never made it and they wrote me for a $500 fine for having an open alcoholic beverage while operating a vehicle. #mostexpensivedrinkieverhad
Now had that been Robert Mueller who pulled me over, he might’ve raided my house the next morning and would’ve found a large amount of a certain illegal recreational drug and I would’ve been in jail!!! But because we citizens have rights, the police were simply not allowed to go digging through my house or the homes of my friends and families. So what started out as an investigation into whether or not Trump worked with Russians to win the Presidential election, and has now turned into an investigation into every aspect of his life…yes I believe that will come back to hurt many who are allowing it to continue! God forbid they ever get accused of fake crime and get more than they bargained for!
If Trump or any president is found to have committed a serious crime, he’d be impeached, not charged, technically. But that’s a pretty good analogy.
The problem with the Mueller investigation isn’t that the federal government set up a special counsel chartered to determine whether and to what extent the Russian government interfered with the 2016 presidential election – that’s a good thing. The problem, as you state, is that it’s expanded to something far greater than originally chartered and is now an all-out, no limits assault on this president. And it’s an openly partisan effort based on openly partisan information. That’s what’s bad about it.
And they should. Frankly I want to see any and every dirty politician out on their ass as fast as possible. Even the ones I like. Things are bad enough as they are, we don’t need some jack-wagon who takes bribes in office.

As if there weren’t already enough reasons to not care about baseball…how is it possible that a team can have the league MVP and miss the playoffs? Is there any other team sport whose MVP player doesn’t impact the win column? Where’s the value?
actually…. i kind of feel the opposite way. often times, it seems, the best player in a given sport is not lucky enough to be on the best team. and he may have elevated them from a .400 team to a .600 team and still not made the playoffs. and players on the best teams get over-valued.
I feel like the only examples you could find of that would be in baseball. Is there a specific season in another team sport that you think a player on a bad team should’ve won MVP Walter?…Peyton Manning maybe, when the Colts finished dead last?

My issue, not yours guys!
That’s not ADD so much as it’s a lack of a super-Herculean effort to get through a hour+ podcast in one sitting.
Maybe you’re right…20 minute increments I can do listening to the podcast

By the way…Friday came and went. There was no announcement made regarding the departure of Bruce Allen.
To be fair, Snider’s column said that Bruce Allen’s departure would be probably announced on a Friday, and not necessarily last Friday.
Right. He was totally saying it will be some Friday somewhere down the calendar year.
