Case Keenum’s current production level makes a quarterback controversy completely pointless

September 19, 2019

Quarterback Case Keenum is in over his head with the Washington Redskins fan base. Case, a guy who (not by his own doing) never resonated with the fans, is disregarded pretty quickly as a quarterback whose days as a starter in DC are numbered. However, two games into the season, Case has outperformed expectations tenfold.

Case Keenum is not playing the best football right now – he has had brief periods where there were bad decisions, poor reads, and some overthrows, all of which happens in the league. However, comparing the bad versus good, there is no doubt that Case is playing good football, and it is hard to get rid of or bench a quarterback who is playing at his level. Keenum on the season has completed 69 percent of his passes, for 600 yards, five touchdowns, and no turnovers. While Keenum boasts an 0-2 record, he is not in the top five reasons for Washington being where they are heading into the third week of the season. So, of all the past legitimate controversies at the quarterback position in Washington, why would you want to force an utterly unnecessary controversy?

Rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins is the presumed future of the franchise for the Washington Redskins. Fans had a brief glimpse of Haskins in August, and with the 0-2 start, the rumblings have already begun to start him in place of Case. There is a saying that most players are the backups until they play – or something like that, do not quote me. But you do understand what is being said, right? This quarterback situation in Washington is doing just fine, and there is no need to compare side by side what the division rival New York Giants are doing. The Giants, who benched Eli Manning for Daniel Jones this week, had far worse production at the quarterback position. That is the issue in New York that Washington does not have.

Until the season is lost or quarterback production is poor for multiple weeks at a time, please, put an end to the one controversy that is not needed with the Redskins. Alternatively, at least put it on hold.
