Hold On – Week 2

September 22, 2020

The Washington Football Team was called for seven penalties again this week, with two on defense, three on offense and two on special teams, and one declined. While the number of penalties is more than the coaching staff would like, they are still on a slightly lower rate than last season, during which they averaged a little over 8 per game.

So, in week two, WFT was penalized less than the Cardinals, six times for 42 yards versus 11 times for 97 yards for their opponent.

WFT holds a 20-yard edge over their opponents in total penalty yards.

Next, this is the breakdown of the accepted penalties by unit:

The penalty distribution for WFT is 7 against the defense, 3 against the offense and 3 against special teams. Given the lack of preseason games one would think the offense would be leading in penalties since they are more formation and timing based.

The biggest issue on defense has been neutral zone infractions, which means that a player was lined up offside when the play was initiated. The is a dumb mental mistake on the player’s part.

Lastly, this is everyone’s favorite chart, which shows who is guilty of committing the infractions.

As of week 2, Landon Collins and Cam Sims lead the Team in total calls.
