Game Summary
First Quarter
The Washington Football Team opened on offense and started with a 12 play, 44 yard drive that started out promising and fizzled out in ineptitude. After driving down to the Giants 32 yard line, a penalty on a wildcat play left WFT with a first and fifteen which they failed to convert. Dustin Hopkins then missed a 47 yard field goal attempt. The Giants responded with a 9 play, 48 yard drive on their opening possession which resulted in a 33 yard Graham Gano field goal. Key plays included a 21 yard pass to Evan Engram and a 14 yard run by Devonta Freeman. The drive was stopped by a Ryan Kerrigan sack on a third and eight on the WFT 11 yard line. On the next series, Kyle Allen threw a pick to James Bradberry by attempting to force a pass into Terry McLaurin, thereby giving the Giants a short field of just 27 yards. On third and six, Daniel Jones threw a 23 yard strike to Darius Slayton over Fabian Moreau, ending a nine quarter drought for touchdown passes for Jones.

Second Quarter
In a drive that started in the first quarter, WFT drove 70 yards in 11 plays for a 35 yard Hopkins field goal. Key plays were a 29 yard completion to Logan Thomas, a 10 yard completion to Antonio Gibson, a third completion to McLaurin for 8 yards and a drive killing sack for a 14 yard loss. McLaurin was only able to pick up 20 yards on third and 24. Next Giants series, Jones kept the ball on a read option play and sliced through the WFT defense for 49 yards before being knocked out of bounds by Jimmy Moreland. The 8 play, 67 yard drive ended in a Gano field goal, with other key plays including a 9 yard quarterback draw by Jones and 15 yard roughing the quarterback penalty on Tim Settle. WFT then started they next drive on their own 30 yard line after a 21 yard kickoff return by Danny Johnson. The Team then overcame a 7 yard sack with two straight completions to Thomas for 8 yards and a 12 yard completion to Isaiah Wright. The drive then stalled and WFT was forced to punt, downing the ball on the Giants one yard line. However, the Giants were penalized for running into punter Tress Way, with Ron Rivera electing to accept the penalty and go for it on fourth and four. Allen completed a 15 yard pass to Dontrelle Inman for the first down. The drive ended with a great touch pass from Allen to Thomas who made an outstanding grab over the defensive back and getting both feet down inbounds for a 5 yard touchdown.

Third Quarter
The Giants started on offense the second half with a 6 play, 22 yard drive, with 15 yards of that being an unnecessary roughness penalty on Deshazor Everett. The WFT defense made a key stop on third and one to force a Giants punt. WFT was held to a three and out on their next series, the first of the game. The Giants then went on a 14 play, 64 yard drive that consumed 9:14 of game time. The drive was ended in the red zone with a Kendall Fuller interception in the end zone, one play after being called for a pass interference penalty, which had given the Giants a first and goal at the seven yard line.

Fourth Quarter
WFT responded with a 14 play, 55 yard drive that stalled in the red zone after Washington failed to convert on 4th and 4 on the Giants 10 yard line. Hopkins then made a 28 yard field goal to tie the game at 13. The WFT defense then held the Giants to 15 yards on 6 plays, forcing them to punt. WFT then starting a 7 play drive that ended in catastrophe with a strip-sack that was returned for a Giants touchdown to give them the lead. The Team responded with a 10 play, 80 yard drive capped by Cam Sims’ first career touchdown reception for 22 yards. Key plays included an 18 yard catch by McLaurin and a 13 yard reception by J.D. McKissic. Coach Rivera elected to attempt a 2 point conversion to win the game which failed. The onside kick also failed and the Giants ran out the clock to get the victory.
