March 16, 2021

By Noonefromtampa

Welcome to the latest edition of The Hog Sty’s mock draft tracker column.

By the time you read this article, the legal tampering portion of free agency will be going on. The actual new deals being signed will have to wait until March 17th.  Brandon Scherff had the non-exclusive franchise tag applied, and he signed the contract.

This week the number of mock drafts published went from 161 to 178 as this pace we may have over 200 different mock drafts published before the draft. The position distribution is now as follows:

The big mover this week was Christian Darrisaw, who was up 3.3% while Mac Jones was down 1% and Trey Lance was down 0.7%.

The breakdown of down the percentage picked within each position group for the top five positions is as follows:

  • Quarterback – Mac Jones (69.1% of QB picks), Trey Lance (21.8%), Kyle Trask (3.6%)
  • Offensive tackle – Christian Darrisaw (65.1% of OT picks), Samuel Cosmi (18.6%), Alex Leatherwood (7%)
  • Wide receiver – Rashod Bateman (33.3% of WR picks), Kadarius Toney (30%), Jaylen Waddle (13.3%), Rondale Moore (10%), Devonta Smith (6.7%)
  • Linebacker – Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (70.6%), Micah Parsons (17.6%), Zaven Collins (5.9%), Nick Bolton (5.9%)
  • Interior Offensive Line – Alijah Vera-Tucker (62.5%), Teven Jenkins (37.5%)

The most common trades showing up in the mocks are trade ups for a quarterback, either Trey Lance or Mac Jones, with the most popular spots being #7-Detriot, and #14-Minnesota.

There are now two picks that don’t make much sense for WFT: Christian Barmore, defensive tackle from Alabama and Jaelan Phillips, the edge rusher from Miami. With the current investment in the defensive line, the next first round pick will be used to address other needs.

Regardless of any free agency moves, the draft priority for me right now is quarterback, linebacker, wide receiver, and cornerback.
