According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Washington has reached an agreement with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick on a one year contract worth $10M, plus another $2M in incentives to bring the total potential contract value up to $12M:

With this contract, Fitzpatrick will enter his 17th NFL season.  He was drafted in the 7th round in 2005 out of Harvard by the then-St. Louis Rams.  He has moved around the NFL extensively throughout his career, with stops in Cincinnati in 2008, Buffalo from 2009 to 2011, Tennessee in 2013, Houston in 2014, the New York Jets for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Tampa Bay between 2017 and 2018, and Miami from 2019 to 2020.  In total, Fitzpatrick has played in 165 games, starting 146, with 3,069 completions in 5,054 attempts, for a 60.7% completion percentage, 34,977 yards, 223 touchdowns, 169 interceptions, and a 82.3 quarterback rating.  His career win – loss record as a starter is 59 – 86 – 1.  He played 9 games for the Dolphins in 2020, starting 7, with 183 completions in 267 attempts, a 68.5% completion percentage, 2,091 yards, 13 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, and a 95.6 quarterback rating.

Schefter’s tweet stated that Fitzpatrick is expected to enter training camp as the starter over last year’s playoff hero, late-season signee Taylor Heinicke. This presumably also includes last year’s week one starter Kyle Allen as well, whose health status remains unknown. The team has not made a formal announcement regarding this move.
