Washington has re-signed 2017 first round pick Jonathan Allen to a 4 year contract extension.  Multiple media sources including ESPN’s Ian Rapoport and others reported that the deal is worth a total of $72M, with a $30M signing bonus.  Allen is now signed through the 2025 season.  Specific details of the contract structure and salary cap ramifications are not yet available.

In his four years in Washington, Allen has played and started 52 games, and has 202 total tackles, including 120 solo and 21 tackles for loss, and 17 sacks.  Allen is the first domino to fall for the team in what will prove to be a complicated series of roster decisions on the defensive front over the next several seasons, with Tim Settle‘s rookie deal ending at the end of this coming season and the contracts of Daron Payne, Matt Ioannidis, and Montez Sweat expiring in 2022, and start defensive end Chase Young coming up the following year.  The team holds team options on Sweat and Young for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, respectively.
